• HTML: When i hide a textbox in a Table, is it expected that the table reformats the space?

  Hi, i have a input type=text in a table (in a TD actually) When a user clicks a checkbox, the input is hidden with Jquery (via the hide method) This makes the style of the input to "display:none;" So far so good. Now, when that has happened, the row where the cell is in is shrunk (the height is lowered) because the only thing left in the row is a <span>, which height is lower than the input height. The net result of this is that the row gets smaller, and when you click the checkbox again the input re-appers and the row gets larger. That doesn't look so nice, so i wondered if there was a way to prevent this? And second: is this the way it should work (the table resizing)?

• Writing secure java code with RMI

  Hi Everyone, This may seem like a very broad question, but any help is appreciated. I have a client/server solution written in java which uses the Cajo project (which uses RMI). I just want to try and make my solution as secure as possible, given the sensitive data that will be transferred between server and client. So far, my ideas are to make all my classes "final" as well as throw a "non-serializable" exception for all my classes in the server (except for the object bound in the RMI registry, and any objects that actually do need to be transferred of course). Can anyone think of any other ideas? I know that someone could write a malicious client - this isn't hard to do as you can find out the remote object's API using reflection. However is there anything I can do to protect a malicious client access classes/objects within the server that they are not supposed to access? Many Thanks

• How can we block the user from unchecking a DataGridView checkbox?

  We have a DataGridViewCheckBox column bound to a boolean property in our class. The property setter has some logic which says that under certain conditions a True flag cannot be changed, ie, it stays checked forever. This is on a per record basis. So the entire column can't be readonly, only certain rows. Pseudo code: Public Property Foo() As Boolean Get Return _Foo End Get Set(ByVal value As Boolean) If _Foo And Bar And value = False Then //do nothing, in this scenario once you're true, you stay true Else _Foo = value End If End Set End Property Databinding is handling all of this fine, except that the checkbox is visibly cleared when it's clicked. Then, of course, when the binding / setter is fired (as you move off that cell) it is restored to its checked status per the underlying logic. Ultimately it doesn't matter too much but it's a clumsy bit of UI. How can we intercept the user's click and keep it checked?

  I am getting this error in my sys.transmission_queue table whenever I attempt to send a SQL Service Broker message between two different SQL Server servers. (i.e. the databases are on two different physical machines) Dialog security is unavailable for this conversation because there is no security certificate bound to the database principal (Id: 5). Either create a certificate for the principal, or specify ENCRYPTION = OFF when beginning the conversation When this error refers to "database principal" what is it referring to? (the "master" database? dbo user?) I've used the CREATE CERTIFICATE command, backed up the certificate and created a same named certificate on the other server with the backup .cer file from the first server, but I keep getting this message. Any help would be appreciated in getting me pointed in the right direction. I must be missing something obvious. FYI, in my development environment, both the initiating and target databases were on the same physical server, and same SQL instance, and everything was working fine.

• Opinions on platform game actor/background collision resolving

  Imagine the following scenario: I have a level whose physical structure is built up from a collection of bounding rectangles, combined with prerendered bitmap backgrounds. My actors, including the player character, all have their own bounding rectangle. If an actor manages to get stuck inside a level block, partially or otherwise, it'll need to be shifted out again, so that it is flush against the block. The untested technique I thought up during bio break is as follows: If an actor's box is found to intersect a level box, determine where the centerpoints of each rect are. If the actor's center is higher than the level box's, move the actor so that the bottom of the actor's rect is flush with the top of the level's rect, and vice versa if it's lower. Then do a similar thing horizontally. Opinions on that? Suggestions on better methods? Actually, the bounding rects are XNA BoundingBlocks with their Z spanning from -1 to 1, but it's still 2D gameplay.

  I'm trying to update my Silverlight 4 UI approx every 1/2 second with new data. I've hooked into a WCF service using net.tcp binding and issuing callbacks from the server. To make sure I get the data from the service as quickly as possible I've started up my proxy on a backround worker inside of my Silverlight App. My question is, how do I get the results from the callback and update the ObservableCollection that is bound to a datagird? I've tried a number of different ways and keep getting the dreaded cross-thread error.

  Hi, I have a Rest-Service exposed through spring-mvc. I have a particular method which is correctly mapped and called through a http-call. My spring application contains the hibernatetransactionmanager and transactions are configured through @Transactional-annotations. I annotated the method with @Transactional. @Transactional(readOnly = true) @Override @RequestMapping(value = "/start", method = RequestMethod.GET) @ResponseBody public List start(....) Whenever I call the http-method I get org.hibernate.LazyInitializationException from my org.springframework.http.converter.json.MappingJacksonHttpMessageConverter which is bound in my application context. Is the @Transactional annotation valid for the MessageConverter as well?

• Array.Copy: strange exception while concatenating two byte arrays

  In a application of mine that is developed in C# I have the following code: byte[] resb = new byte[Buffer.ByteLength(blockAr) + Buffer.ByteLength(previous)]; Array.Copy(blockAr, 0, resb,0, blockAr.Length); Array.Copy(previous, 0, resb, blockAr.Length, previous.Length); It's a very simple code to concatenate two byte arrays. The problem is that in some particular situation that I don't know I have that exception: ArgumentOutOfRangeException: sourceIndex is less than the lower bound of the first dimension of sourceArray. I cannot see any of strange in my code and I am not able to reproduce the exception. Could anyone help me to identify the problem? thanks

  The IIS URL Rewrite Module ships with 3 built-in functions: * ToLower - returns the input string converted to lower case. * UrlEncode - returns the input string converted to URL-encoded format. This function can be used if the substitution URL in rewrite rule contains special characters (for example non-ASCII or URI-unsafe characters). * UrlDecode - decodes the URL-encoded input string. This function can be used to decode a condition input before matching it against a pattern. The functions can be invoked by using the following syntax: {function_name:any_string} The question is: can this list be extended by introducing a Replace function that's available for changing values within a rewrite rule action or condition? Another way to frame the question: is there any way to do a global replace on a URL coming in using this module? It seems that you're limited to using regular expressions and back-references to construct strings, without a search/replace functionality to replace every X with Y in {REQUEST_URI} before issuing a redirect.

  I am trying to add a .html suffix at the end of all strings supplied by the user before it is entered into the database. Here's my code so far: strtolower(str_replace(" ", "_", $postTitle)); The above takes the title of the post the user it trying to make, turns it to lower case, replaces all white spaces with underscores and makes it ready to be entered into a database column called post_url. I just need it to do one more thing and that's to add a .html at the end of each post url. What is the function to do this?

• Why does C++ linking use virtually no CPU?

  On a native C++ project, linking right now can take a minute or two, yet during this time CPU drops from 100% during compilation to virtually zero. Does this mean linking is primarily a disk activity? If so, is this the main area an SSD would make big changes? But, why aren't all my OBJ files (or as many as possible) kept in RAM after compilation to avoid this? With 4Gb of RAM I should be able to save a lot of disk access and make it CPU-bound again, no?

  I would like to know what do you think about storing chat messages in a database? I need to be able to bind other stuff to them (like files, or contacts) and using a database is the best way I see for now. The same question comes for files, because they can be bound to chat messages, I have to store them in the database too.. With thousands of messages and files I wonder about performance drops and database size. What do you think considering I'm using PHP with MySQL/Doctrine?

  I have a datasheet form bound to table. I added 2 unbound fields and set their Control Source properties to user defined VBA functions: 1. ConcatRelated (http://allenbrowne.com/func-concat.html) 2. Custom function that returns a string: Public Function GetLowestSatatus(LookupField As String, JSAID As Integer) As String On Error Resume Next GetLowestSatatus = DLookup(LookupField, "JsaStatuses", "ID=" & DMin("StatusID", "Tasks", "JSAID =" & JSAID)) End Function It works fine on my and some other machines but there are machines I got "#Name?" in these 2 unbound fields. All machines configured identically. Any ideas? Thank you!

• low latency data link pc to android

  can anyone recommend a method for low latency bi-directional com link between my pc app and android slave app. the app i have works now via wifi but the latency is too slow (about 300mS), i'm looking to get it down to 10mS or so. the android is acting like a glorified remote control to the game on the pc. the apk displays a low res image and sends button presses back to the game and the round trip need to be quick i'm thinking the only option beside the network, is to connect a usb cable but i don't see a lot of support for that path and not even sure it would be lower latency than wifi any ideas please?

I have two different webistes both with their own dedicted ip address. sitea.com = xx.xx.xx.43 siteb.com = xx.xx.xx.44 Im using hmailserver to host our emails and have the smtp bound to the ip address of xx.xx.xx.42 im aware that i can set up a spf record to state that the what servers emails can be sent from v=spf1 mx ip4:xx.xx.xx.43 mx:mail.sitea.com ip4:xx.xx.xx.42 -all Would the fact that email are not sent from the sites ip's be causing them to be flagged as junk. • Using condionals in Linq Programatically

  I was just reading a recent question on using conditionals in Linq and it reminded me of an issue I have not been able to resolve. When building Linq to SQL queries programatically how can this be done when the number of conditionals is not known until runtime? For instance in the code below the first clause creates an IQueryable that, if executed, would select all the tasks (called issues) in the database, the 2nd clause will refine that to just issues assigned to one department if one has been selected in a combobox (Which has it's selected item bound to the departmentToShow property). How could I do this using the selectedItems collection instead? • Just when I thought my site was working right, it screws up in IE7

  I thought I'd done quite well, my site passed XHTML1.0 strict validation and worked flawlessly in IE6 as well as looking fine in IE8 & Chrome. I glibly thought that it it worked in IE6 & 8, IE7 was bound to be OK. But on checking I see one of my has a scrollbar in IE7, the seems about 200% as wide as it should be... the content is fine but you can scroll the whole . 2 separate pages have this issue, a 3rd does not, even though all pages use the same layout template - the main difference on the 2 that break is a floated div. Are there known issues specifically in this area with IE7? Or do I have to embarrass myself by posting a link to the site?

• d3 tree - parents having same children

  I've been transitioning my code from JIT to D3, and working with the tree layout. I've replicated http://mbostock.github.com/d3/talk/20111018/tree.html with my tree data, but I wanted to do a little more. In my case I will need to create child nodes that merge back to form a parent at a lower level, which I realize is more of a directed graph structure, but would like the tree to accomodate (i.e. notice that common id's between child nodes should merge). So basically a tree that divides like normal on the way from parents to children, but then also has the ability to bring those children nodes together to be parents (sort of an incestual relationship or something :)). Asks something similar - How to layout a non-tree hierarchy with D3 It sounds like I might be able to use hierarchical edge bundling in conjunction with the tree hierarchy layout, but I haven't seen that done. I might be a little off with that though.

  I have a databound Listbox bound to a generic list as follows (Provider is a very simple class that just includes a single property (Name). ProviderList = new List<Provider>(); //Populate list Providers.ItemsSource = ProviderList; I can save the selected item with no problem but I can't manage to set the selected item from code afterwards. I am trying to do so as follows: int x = Providers.Items.IndexOf((Provider)_Settings["provider"]); However IndexOf() is always returning -1. If I inspect both Providers.Items[1] and _Setting["provider"] at runtime using the immediate window they both return {StoreRetrieveData.Provider} Name: "Greenflag" Am I doing something wrong (well clearly I am)?

  Above is how my report looks, the part in yellow in hidden, and is only shown when the user clicks the + icon on the [name]. the result is basically the percentage difference from the Past [X] - [TERM] i.e there is a dropdown with, [weeks, months, days, hours] and a textbox of qty. so choosing qty = 4 and term = weeks will delivery a result set spread over 4 weeks based on the parent result sets date range and name ID I wish to populate here the number of rows, dependant on the value set by the user and the data will be from a dataset. Is it possible to dynamically add more sub rows ( like on row data bound ) if my first row is ID 123 [name], is it possible to send this value [123] to a dataset in order that all subrows are only relevant to the name with ID of 123? this is my first bash at SSRS so please no half cut answers, that just lead to more questions about the answer given :-) if this makes sense.   Not sure why my code is defaulting to this elif. But it's never getting to the else statement. Even going as far as throwing index out of bound errors in the last elif. Please disregard my non use of regex. It wasn't allowed for this homework assignment. The problem is the last elif before the else statement.   A question from Math Battle. This particular question was also asked to me in one of my job interviews. " A monkey has two coconuts. It is fooling around by throwing coconut down from the balconies of M-storey building. The monkey wants to know the lowest floor when coconut is broken. What is the minimal number of attempts needed to establish that fact? " Conditions: if a coconut is broken, you cannot reuse the same. You are left with only with the other coconut Possible approaches/strategies I can think of are Binary break ups & once you find the floor on which the coconut breaks use upcounting from the last found Binary break up lower index. Window/Slices of smaller sets of floors & use binary break up within the Window/Slice (but on the down side this would require a Slicing algorithm of it's own.) Wondering if there are any other way to do this.
