  • Software install failure

    I am getting a "Package Operations Failed" message at the 95% mark of each download. Details show "Reading database" for each 5 percentage segment until Reading database ... 95%dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error aborting: failed in buffer_read(fd): files list for package `gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly' I have tried to download a number of piece of software (most recently PDF Editor) and am getting the same message at the same point in the download. Is there something wrong with my Ubuntu version, a virus or is it the software being downloaded? Using 10.04 LTS. P.S. Same problem when trying to download updates.

  • Is it possible to keep GNOME 2 in 11.10?

    Unity has been both praised and hated by different people for various reasons. Mark Shuttleworth for example says that it's designed for widescreens as an example. I do fully agree with that statement, however due to the fact that I do not have a widescreen (1280x1024) Unity simply doesn't function smoothly for me. That's what it's important for me to have a good alternative. Since I really loved Gnome 2, I'd like to ask if it's possible to keep using that in Ubuntu 11.10 or would you guys suggest another alternative and if so why?

    This is question asked to me by an interviewer, in which a map of world is given, and for those country you want to send message, just marked circle on that area, and just send to all the people comes in that area. Question visual link is : Design this application The approach that I told him: Firstly build whole person's data (contacts , place information and all) Then where you mark on the map, just build a cluster of that country using Hadoop and fire the message to all the person's contact comes in that cluster. So help me for better understandings of this problem, and if have another good approach (all back-end ad front-end) , then please tell me or discuss here with me. Thanks in advance.

(*it)->Update(); } void Bomb::Update() { if( time == 2.0f ) { gameObjectFactory->Remove( this ); } } void GameObjectFactory::Remove( ... ) { gameObjectList.remove( ... ); } My thoughts would be to mark the object to be dead then let the factory handle it the on next frame for deletion. Is it the best and fastest way? What do you think?

  • What can I learn to build a (kind of) recommendation system?

    I'm learning how to develop an android app (nothing serious, just for learning and fun), so I devised the following goal: an app that learns with users actions and, some time later, starts to suggest some useful things. For example: The user add some notes daily, in the morning, and mark some of them as done generally on thursdays and sundays, at evening. Based on that behaviour and the relation of the notes marked as done, the app will prioritize notes that are more propense to be marked, and avoid notifying in days where no note is marked. This is a silly example but I think it ilustrates well what I want to do. I know this is a matter of machine learning, but I don't know where I should start learning. To anyone interested, I'm build a backend in Python, so any libraries or frameworks in this language are very welcome. The frontend, by the way, is sencha touch + phonegap.

  • XNA 4.0 - container with content, that can slide (C#)

    I got an idea, but I got no idea on how to make it. Okay, so here is the deal. I want a container which can contain certain objects (These objects will draw the sprites/graphics). But because of different screen sizes, I want to be able to scale the containers width and height. But I do not want the objects in the container, that go outside of the container, because of the scaling to be visible. Because I want the objects all to be positioned horizontaly to eachother and I want a horizontal sliderbar, so I can slide from left to right within the container.   • Using a Unicode format for Python's `time.strftime()`

    I am trying to call Python's time.strftime() function using a Unicode format string: u'%d\u200f/%m\u200f/%Y %H:%M:%S' (\u200f is the "Right-To-Left Mark" (RLM).) However, I am getting an exception that the RLM character cannot be encoded into ascii: UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\u200f' in position 2: ordinal not in range(128) I have tried searching for an alternative but could not find a reasonable one. Is there an alternative to this function, or a way to make it work with Unicode characters?

    I have an issue that means I cannot check in changes even if I resolve the issues. I have removed a form from the solution then created a new form with the same name. Now when I go to check in the form I get the following error: Even if I mark all the conflicts as resolved the check in fails with the following error: All conflicts resolved but no files checked in due to initial conflicts. How can I get this to check in?

  • How to load entities into private collections using the entity framework

    I have a POCO domain model which is wired up to the entity framework using the new ObjectContext class. public class Product { private ICollection<Photo> _photos; public Product() { _photos = new Collection<Photo>(); } public int Id { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public virtual IEnumerable<Photo> Photos { get { return _photos; } } public void AddPhoto(Photo photo) { //Some biz logic //... _photos.Add(photo); } } In the above example i have set the Photos collection type to IEnumerable as this will make it read only. The only way to add/remove photos is through the public methods. The problem with this is that the Entity Framework cannot load the Photo entities into the IEnumerable collection as it's not of type ICollection. By changing the type to ICollection will allow callers to call the Add mentod on the collection itself which is not good. What are my options? Edit: I could refactor the code so it does not expose a public property for Photos: public class Product { public Product() { Photos = new Collection<Photo>(); } public int Id { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } private Collection<Photo> Photos {get; set; } public IEnumerable<Photo> GetPhotos() { return Photos; } public void AddPhoto(Photo photo) { //Some biz logic //... Photos.Add(photo); } } And use the GetPhotos() to return the collection. The other problem with the approach is that I will loose the change tracking abilities as I cannot mark the collection as Virtual - It is not possible to mark a property as private virtual. In NHibernate I believe it's possible to map the proxy class to the private collection via configuration. I hope that this will become a feature of EF4. Currently i don't like the inability to have any control over the collection!

    I have a class that I am using to model my data in MVC. I have added some DataAnotations to mark fields that are required and I am using regular expressions to check valid Email Addresses. Everything works fine if the object is posted back to MVC and I have the ModelState property that I can check to confirm that the class is valid but how do I check to see if the class is valid outside of MVC using the same class and Data Anotations that I have already set up?

  • healthy DLL reference broken after compile multi-project solution

    Hi. I have a solution with multiple class libraries. When I compile each individual library (and the web site by itself) compilation always succeeds. But, when I compile the solution as a whole, one of the library references fails with a little yellow exclamation mark next to the failed library. I am guessing this has to do with the build order? Can somebody suggest what i have to do to resolve this? Thanks in advance.

    In Apple's iPhone apps (like Contacts), they have a nice magnifying glass icon at the top of the table view index. Since the table view index API is character-based, I assume that this magnifying glass is a Unicode character. So far I've resorted to placing a question mark character there, but that looks lame. Can anyone tell me what character the magnifying glass is?

I was wondering how I could go about detecting some point of time in the video. For eg, say I want to write log to a file when the video has played for 10s. How can I detect the 10s mark? Edit1 It now removes the feature (was map.layers[1]) previously... But will not add the new feature.. Edit2 I managed to get it to redraw a point but not with live data. It should draw the point at what (latitude) & (longitude) are equal to. I am trying to set latitude & longitude to some JSON string but every time straight after it sets the variable it changes it back to "undefined" as soon as it passes the line after var latitude? (using firebug & firequery to debug)
