  • Given a PHP class would be the best and simplest way to override one or two of its methods with one

    Here's the objective. I have a PHP class and there are one or two of its methods that I would like to override with my own. As I understand OOP (in PHP and in general) I could write a child class that extends it and overrides the functionality of the methods in question. However, I was wondering if this is the best way of achieving this task and if this is a proper use for child classes or if there is something better in PHP for what I'm trying to do.

  • "Slice" out one element from a python dictionary

    I have a dictionary: D = { "foo" : "bar", "baz" : "bip" } and I want to create new dictionary that has a copy of one of it's elements k. So if k = "baz": R = { "baz" : "bip" } what I'v got now is: R = { k : D[k] } But in my case k is a complex expression and I've got a whole stack of these. Caching k in a temporary looks about as ugly as the original option. What I'm looking for is a better (cleaner) way to do this.

    This simple query throws the "Ambiguous column name TaskID" error on one db-server only. This is ridiculous. We tested this with the same database structure on different servers and different versions of ms sql (2005/2008), and it's only THIS particular client's server that throws the error. I'm actually frustrated.     One of my utility jar files is used by different nix scripts, located in different categories. Problem: unable to initialize log4j framework (unable to find log4j.xml). Solution, that allows to configure logger correctly while launching jar classes by different scripts - usage of env vars and force configuring using DOMConfigurtor.configure(pathToConfXml) method. is it possible to avoid path hardcoding and configure logger inside of a script?     Hello Everybody, I've got a question regarding a SQL-select-query: The table contains several columns, one of which is an Integer-column called "size" - the task I'm trying to perform is query the table for the sum of all rows (their values), or to be more exact get a artifical column in my ResultSet called "overallSize" which contains the sum of all "size"-values in the table. Preferable it would be possible to use a WHERE-clause to add only certain values ("WHERE bla = 5" or something similar). The DB-engine is HSQLDB (HyperSQL), which is compliant to SQL2008.
