• Flash to PHP base64 encode/decode

  I'm using AS3 to base64 encode a JPG and pass it to Javascript. I'm attempting to use AJAX to pass that base64 encoded string to PHP and have PHP decode it. (I know I could send it back to Flash and Flash could decode it and send it to PHP, but I'm trying to eliminate the need for Flash on the decoding end). It appears that AS3's encodeToBase64String() function and and PHP's base64_decode() function do not use the same algorithm, as PHP evaluates it as a base64 encoded object, but does not seem to output it properly. Is there a way to rectify this problem? Note: Please no posts about not needing Javascript. Javascript is a necessary step for reasons not detailed here.

• cakePHP paginate with post data without sessions, serialization or post to get

  I have created a small search and filter form method post in controller/index, which posts to it self the conditions and fields to paginate ( $this-paginate($conditions) ) However that is good for the first page, the subsequent pages the filer conditions are lost. pagination passArgs supports get variables well. Is there an un complex way to pass the post conditions to the other paginated pages? The method I have looked at is pass the $conditions in session , which isnt without complexity of assigning session and unset the session on submitting the form again (more refinements to the filter criteria by the user ) The other method is passing the $conditions as serialized string url_encode as an get parameter. Is there an good cake way to do this more like passArgs, sessions and url encode do not look like cake style. Thanks

• Knowledge base web app -- need a demo mode

  I was contracted to build an on-line knowledge base that searches and cross-references many thousands of replacement parts for a niche industry. My client furnishes this app to his customers on a subscription basis. It uses MySQL and PHP and it works great. I want to deploy it in "demo mode" to sell my skills. I want the user to see the functions, but I have to guard the data for my client. My first idea was to obfuscate the results. That's at cross-purposes with showing how well it searches. I'm considering a limit on how many searches you can perform, but that's awkward too as someone could visit every day and get more answers than we would prefer. Other posts I've found are about letting people interact with an app, but without the challenge of protecting a big knowledge base. Can you suggest an approach? (Note, I put the tag obfuscation, but not sure it applies because java code obfuscation seems to be unrelated.)

  Hello All, I've read previous posts like "Redirecting https requests to two different weblogic servers using the Weblogic proxy and Apache2". But I have a different situation and I don't think I'm understanding this to well. I have an Apache 2 server (server1) that will receive http request for my application. Then I have two more servers (server2 and server3) with Web Logic 9.2 runing on ports 7000 (server1) and 8000 (server2). I want the users to enter appname.domain.com and be redirected between the two web logic servers, always keeping appname.domain.com (this is hidding servername:port from URL). • mysql naming convention

  I have generally always used some sort of Hungarian Notation for my field names in my tables e.g. #Table Users u_id, u_name, u_email etc... #Posts p_id, p_u_id, p_title, p_content etc... But I have recently been told that this isn't best practice. Is there a more standard way of doing this? I haven't really liked just using the field id as this is then requirs you to select table.field for fields names that appear in mutliple tables when using joins etc. Your thoughts on what is best practice would be appreciated.

• C++ debugging help for C# programmer

  I'm embarrassed to post this but it's been awhile since I worked in C++, been with C# for awhile. I'm converting old (not written by me) vs2003 and 05 C++ code to vs 08. In addition to lots of lumps during conversion, I want to add debug logging so I can monitor what is going on when I attach with windbg. I've searched the archives here and ms and I think it's using Debugger.Log(...) but not sure. I also remember years ago launching a debug monitor to catch the logging. So the call to some experts that have a better memory than I. What call(s) can I make (without the DEBUG compile directive - need to watch release code) to catch the logging in wind bag? I followed a couple of debugging links from SO posts but they were dead. Thanx - Old Man.

  Hi All, I am developing my first rails site (yup, i am a rails idiot). I'm writing a blog, and i got to the comments part. I installed acts-as-commentable-with-threading ( GitHub ), i made and ran the migration like the install instructions said. I have added acts_as_commentable to my Posts model and i have a Comments controller When i add @comment = Comment.build_from(params[:id],1, params[:body] ) I get the error. undefined method `build_from' for # Clearly i am doing something terribly wrong, and i don't really get the example. What should i be feeding to build_from? Can somebody explain this plugin step by step? :) Or is there an easier way to get simple threaded comments?

• How do I change the background color of the column with the expanders in Eclipse?

  Recently after scorching my retinas from the garish white background in Eclipse, I found some of the excellent posts about how to change the colors so it uses sane (i.e. dark background) colors in the editor. However, one problem present in all solutions is that background of the column with the expanders for code folding is always white. Is there a way to change the background of that column? Here's a screenshot of the problem: I'm not the only person that has this problem, as shown in the screenshots for the following questions: Dark Color Scheme for Eclipse Color Themes for Eclipse (application of color schemes results in this issue on a Mac, no idea about PC) I know that the problem is not language specific as it happens in Java, Python, HTML, and everything else. Any hints on where in the pages of preferences this setting is?

There is a details view of the ForumThread which shows the thread with the underlying posts.   I've seen a few posts that briefly touch on the subject but don't address the question directly. So please don't label this as a dup. Having been independant/freelance for 5 years or so, and having also had plenty of exposure to perm positions, I've been exposed to many views on what an "Architect" really is. As a result, I've coined the term, "One man's architect is another man's n00b", as it seems to be perpetually relative. I've interviewed at mom-&-pop shops that didn't think I was worth a hill of beans. I've also interviewed at world-class consulting firms who thought I was incredible. Again, it all seems relative. But what specifically makes a software architect a true "Architect"?

• Re-Apply currency formatting to a UITextField on a change event

  Howdy all, I'm working with a UITextField that holds a localized currency value. I've seen lots of posts on how to work with this, but my question is: how do I re-apply currency formatting to the UITextField after every key press? I know that I can set up and use a currency formatter with: NSNumberFormatter *currencyFormatter = [[NSNumberFormatter alloc] init]; [currencyFormatter setNumberStyle:NSNumberFormatterCurrencyStyle]; ... [currencyFormatter stringFromNumber:...]; but I don't know how to hook it up. For instance, if the value in the field reads "$12,345" and the user taps the "6" key, then the value should change to "$123,456". Which callback is the "correct" one to do this in (should I use textField:shouldChangeCharactersInRange:replacementString: or a custom target-action) and how do I use the NSNumberFormatter to parse and re-apply formatting to the UITextField's text property? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

  Joel mentions in several of his blog posts that it is very important for a developer/software entrepreneur to have solid understanding of Economics. Yet the Fog Creek MBA book reading list does not include any Economics books. Is there any good material that people can recommend? Obviously, I am not as concerned about mathematical treatise as foundations and basic principles. For example, I was able to find a very good high-level read on Macroeconomics: Concise Guide to Macroeconomics but I am yet to find anything similar on Microeconomics. Any suggestions and reading pointers would be highly appreciated.

• Diff Algorithm

  I've been looking like crazy for an explanation of a diff algorithm that works and is efficient. The closest I got is this link to RFC 3284 (from several Eric Sink blog posts), which describes in perfectly understandable terms the data format in which the diff results are stored. However, it has no mention whatsoever as to how a program would reach these results while doing a diff. I'm trying to research this out of personal curiosity, because I'm sure there must be tradeoffs when implementing a diff algorithm, which are pretty clear sometimes when you look at diffs and wonder "why did the diff program chose this as a change instead of that?"... Does anyone know where I can find a description of an efficient algorithm that'd end up outputting VCDIFF? By the way, if you happen to find a description of the actual algorithm used by SourceGear's DiffMerge, that'd be even better. NOTE: longest common subsequence doesn't seem to be the algorithm used by VCDIFF, it looks like they're doing something smarter, given the data format they use. Thanks!

• Blogger (Python) API: How do I retrieve a post by post ID?

  Having previously obtained a post ID from a call to gdata.blogger.client.add_post()... post = client.add_post(...) post_id = post.get_post_id() ...how do I use that post id to retrieve the post in the future? I thought maybe gdata.blogger.client.Query would be the way to go, but this doesn't support post id as a query term. The example code distributed with the Python gdata module doesn't have an example of this use case, and after poking around gdata.blogger.client.* for a while I'm not making much progress. I could obviously iterate through all the posts in the blog until find the one with the corresponding id, but that would be a terrible, terrible idea.

The requirement is to find the no. of visits the user has done on the site. Instead of checking each time during posts or gets to the server. Is there something in php to find out if the session is a new one. Zen framework is also used for the app.

• Text encoding in HTML text fields

  I have a site up that has a form on it. The form POSTs to a php script which then inserts the data into my database. The page has a charset=UTF-8 attribute in the <meta> tag, and the database is setup to use UTF-8. However, when I copy and paste characters from MS Word into the field, the output is messed up. For example, the quotes in I am using "Microsoft Word" '''' become I am using “Microsoft Word†???? in the database. Anyone have any idea why this might occur?

• Thoughts on moving to Maven in an enterprise environment

  I'm interested in hearing from those who either A) use Maven in an enterprise environment or B) tried to use Maven in an enterprise environment. I work for a large company that is contemplating bringing in Maven into our environment. Currently we use OpenMake to build/merge and home-grown software to deploy code to 100+ servers running various platforms (eg. WAS and JBoss). OpenMake works fine for us however Maven does have some ideal features, most importantly being dependency management, but is it viable in a large environment? Also what headaches have/did you incur, if any, in maintaining a Maven environment. It's interesting seeing the split between developers.

  I have a simple example of a blog: a Post table, a Tag table and a Post_Tag_MM lookup table linking the two tables. I use this hql query in order to fetch all posts, that DONT have some tags: var result = session .CreateQuery(@" select p from Post p join p.Tags t where (select count(ti) from p.Tags ti where ti.Uid in (:uidList)) = 0 ") .SetParameterList("uidList", uidList) .SetResultTransformer(new DistinctRootEntityResultTransformer()) .List<Post>(); How can this many-to-many query and the subselect translated into a criteria query? • Why did the aspnet_client folder come back in ASP.NET 4?

  I recently upgraded my MVC 1 project (ASP.NET 3.5) to MVC 2 (ASP.NET 4). I noticed there is now a folder "aspnet_client\system_web\4_0_30319" under the site root. This folder is empty... I'm just wondering if anyone knows why it was created. I remember the aspnet_client folder from the days of .NET 1.1, but I thought it was obsoleted when .NET 2.0 came out. For example, see the answers in these two stackoverflow posts: What is the aspnet_client folder in my ASP.NET website? What is the aspnet_client folder for under the IIS structure? • IE8 AJAX GET setRequestHeaders not working unless params provided in URL

In IE8 however, all of my AJAX test requests work EXCEPT for ones where I'm performing GETs without any query string params (such as the one above). POSTs work without question, and GET requests only work whenever I include query strings in the URL, like this: xhr.open( 'GET', '/ajax/?foo=bar' ) I'm also 110% positive that my server code is handling these requests appropriately, so, this stumps me completely. Does anyone have any clue as to what might be causing this?

Unmarshal looks like: Unmarshaller u = createAndsetUpUnmarshaller(enableValidation, evtHandler, clazz); return u.unmarshal(new ByteArrayInputStream(stringSource.getBytes())); While marshaling one can format the code via: marshaller.setProperty(Marshaller.JAXB_FORMATTED_OUTPUT, Boolean.TRUE); But this isn´t possible for the unmarchal process... Any idea how I can format the XML string with JAXB during (or after) unmarshal process? BTW: I read some posts here about pretty print, but I want to do it with JAXB!

I have not found any other questions on Disqus and BlogEngine.NET. • Convert graph in to data points using Mechanical Turk?

  I looked around but did not see anyone using Mechanical Turk for this. I've heard of the service, but never used it before. I need to take the following graph and digitize it so I get a list of data points for each line (noting that there are two Y-axes, and thus depends on which line we are talking about). This is pretty time consuming for me, and I saw other posts on StackOverflow about digitizing software doing a poor job at this. Would Mechanical Turk be well suited to my task?   I'm having an annoying :) I use regexes from this: http://forums.codecharge.com/posts.php?post_id=77123 if you enter [url]www.bob.com[/url] it leads too http://localhost/test/www.bobsbar.com So I added before http://$1 in the replacement. That fix it but then [url]http://www.bob.com[/url] will lead to http://http://www.bobsbar.com How would you fix this? I want my users to be able to post links with AND without http:// and i want it to redirect to the site -_- Hope you understand this.
