  Are there statistics of internet users that use AdBlock or other ad blocking plug-ins? Are there some statistical breakdown, for example, per country (I assume it must vary a lot)? I was unable to google the information I am looking for. The reason I am asking is because I have just signed up for the "Amazon Partners" program and see that this affiliate program is listed on the AdBlock blacklist.

• CloudFlare DNS: Downtime failover host

  My company uses CloudFlare for its DNS, but as our site is HTTPS-secured and we're on the free plan, we can't utilize CloudFlare's CDN services. Our host has fairly rare but not insignificant downtime. We can't migrate servers just yet, and I'd like to be able to either have the main domain redirect to the status domain, or simply resolve to the alternative status host in the event of downtime so users will stop bugging me asking if the site is down. Is this possible to do automatically using the free CloudFlare plan, or will I have to manually edit my DNS every time the site goes down?

• Best S.E.O. practice for backlinking etc

  I'm currently working on a website that I am really looking to optimise in terms of search engines, i've been submitting between 5-20 directory submissions daily, i've validated and optimised my code and i've joined a lot of forums etc to speak of the website in question, however, I don't seem to be making much of an impact in terms of Google. I know that S.E.O. takes a while to start making an impact, and that Google prefers sites that a regularly updated and aged, but are there any more practices that can really help with organic results in Search engines. I have looked on Google itself, and a few other SE's but nobody is willing to talk about extensive S.E.O. practices as they normally don't want people knowing their formula's for S.E.O., also does anyone know of a decent piece of software that really looks into the in's and out's of your page and provides feedback, I usually use http://www.woorank.com, but only using one program doesn't show if it's exactly correct in what it's saying. If anyone could help it would be much appreciated, thank you very much.

  Can you recommend a package that allows me to manage subscriptions to certain content on my website (not necessarily displayable) based on payment levels? Ideally, the software would allow logging in using both site-specific registration and PayPal/Facebook/Twitter/MyOpenId, etc. Preferably, it would also be open source, LAMP-based. One idea that I have in mind is hacking a shopping cart software like Zen-Cart but this may be an overkill if a non-shopping lighter-weight package exists.

However, the SPDY protocol compresses HTTP headers and in some cases eliminates unnecessary headers. My question then is, does SPDY make cookieless domains irrelevant? Furthermore, should the page source and all of its resources be hosted at the same domain in order to optimize a SPDY implementation?

  One of our competitors constantly copies all our website content. Now, I assume the trouble is to proof that we wrote the content first and that it is not the other way round. I checked on http://www.archive.org, but there is nothing. Any other way to proof that? FYI: We are a swiss company, so different laws will apply. • Managing multiple Adwords accounts from one Google account

  I have a Gmail account linked to numerous Analytics accounts, and a couple of Adwords accounts - that is, I can track stats from a dozen or so sites, and have administration rights for a couple of Adwords campaigns. However, a client has already set-up their Adwords account and has invited me help administer their campaign. However, when I try to accept, I get the folowing error: The Google Account xxx already has access to an AdWords account (Customer ID: ). As many have discovered, for some reason Google won't let an account that already owns an Adwords campaign, to join another account. However, I wondering if there is any workaround for this? Temporarily, I'm using a separate Gmail account for this, but what is the longer term solution. Going forwards, sometimes clients will be happy from me to 'host' their campaigns (but providing them with access), but I'm equally sure that many will want to retain greater control. Surely there must be a better way than creating an additional Gmail account for each client? How do web/SEO agencies handle this?

  For a music community, I want bands to be able to verify themselves. What is the best way to do this? For example I could let the record label mail me, but some bands are indepedent. I could also ask them to put a 'code' on their website or Facebook page and then check manually. I'm not per se looking for a waterproof solution, so no scanning of real life documents and I'm okay with doing the checks manually. In other words, how can you verify real people with their virtual presence?

• Similar domains using my business' content, and stealing SEO results

  I've been hired to create a website for a restaurant in my city, let's call it "Flying Dragon" Chinese restaurant. The restaurant has never had a website, though the business itself is about ten years old. However, if you Google the restaurant's name, the first site that comes up seems to be affiliated with the restaurant itself, even though it is not. This site - let's say, flyingdragonchinese.com - is also the one that Google has apparently selected, in its results, to be the official website of the restaurant - in essence, the first Google result is flyingdragonchinese.com, and directly beneath it, within the same entry, are the Google reviews and contact information. Upon visiting flyingdragonchinese.com (again, not the actual name), I see that the website has taken the menu content from the restaurant, in the same manner that Yelp does, but it also seems (to the untrained eye) to be the restaurant's official site. Basically, someone has created a fake website for the business (I am not sure why) using its actual menu and contact information, and is hogging the search results. The concept is similar to a "scraping site" except that the information seems to have been stolen manually. The main problem is that visitors to this site will have an inaccurate impression of the restaurant. I feel like the obvious solution is to register a new domain for my site, and simply beat out this competitor (or whatever it is) with smarter SEO and business verification with Google. However, the Conan-the-Barbarian-web-designer part of me wants to somehow bash this other site (deservedly?) into oblivion. But I don't know what I can really do, besides maybe issuing a cease-and-desist letter, or trying to contact the web host for the site, although there is no contact information available on this "fake" site for the site owner. Has anyone ever experienced something like this? Is there any solution?

  In my website I changed the directory name "vehicles-cars" to "vehicles-cars-for-sale". When I tried to redirect using a wild card redirect from my old directory name to new directory name in my web hosting cPanel account, I get an error every time I open pages from that directory: this webpage has a redirect loop The website is php. The problem is that that I have lots of pages with the old directory indexed in Google and they are getting duplicate content. I really need some advice on what to do with this problem. I read some posts about setting my virtual hosts and such, but nothing specific about how to avoid it in the first place. Here's some background on how my domain name and site is currently configured: My domain name provider has the following settings: host name @ is an A NAME record and points to IP address x.x.x.x host name www is an A NAME record and points to IP address x.x.x.x sub-domain host name new.example.com is an A NAME record and points to IP address x.x.x.x My hosting provider has the following settings: host record @ is an A NAME record and points to IP address x.x.x.x, folder home/public_html/old host record www is a C NAME record and points to example.com sub-domain host record new.example.com points to home/public_html/new I want to: point the domain (example.com AND www.example.com) to the content hosted under folder home/public_html/new, which is currently the content directory for new.example.com retire the content hosted under folder home/public_html/old retire the sub-domain host record new.example.com I believe the easiest method of doing this, is: removing the sub-domain host record new.example.com; and changing the following line in the .htaccess file in home/public_html from # Change 'subdirectory' to be the directory you will use for your main domain. RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/old/ to # Change 'subdirectory' to be the directory you will use for your main domain. RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/new/ But I don't understand how this will impact my SERP - ideally, I'd like it to remain the same. But I wanted to make certain with a more specific example, and hopefully contribute to the community at the same time. I'd appreciate any feedback on this. The reason for using Ajax is that the content generation takes some time (a few seconds), because it loads data from other websites using their respective APIs. My concern is, that search engine bots will not see any useful content. The solution I've been thinking about would be to serve search engine bots differently, so that the content will be displayed directly for them. Technically, this would not be a big problem. I enter the following in data/.htaccess: ExpiresByType application/xml "access plus 24 hours" Header set Cache-control "max-age=86400, public" but it seems that apache ignores this. How can I ensure apache2 uses the .htaccess directives? I can provide further information if requested.

  What would you say would be the best way to do this: We would like to create a section on our activist community FB page and website in order to share with everyone images and files ready for printing panflets, brochures, t-shirts, stickers, etc. Let's say we have some cool slogans for t-shirts, so we would like to show them on a gallery, and offer for download the original design files needed for a print shop to create the t-shirts. And the same thing for all other kinds of media. We want to enable anyone to be able to just download the files for free, and easily create printed materials with them. But besides offering this hybrid between picture gallery and downloads manager, we would also like to make it very easy for anyone to upload and share their own files with the community, to make it a true collaboration initiative, be it that they get posted automatically, or that we first review and approve all uploads. Cafepress or Spreadshirt let you upload your design and sell your own merchandise. We need something similar, but where people can then download working files for making quality printings and materials. What apps, tools, services or methods are out there with which you think this could be best done?? We have some ideas, but we would like to hear some more!!

  There is a website that I am assisting with which, when you do a DNS look up on Who.is, returns a Website Status of "inactive". I also noticed the server type is incorrectly reported. This is not a website I generally use for DNS queries so am unsure if it is reliable. Using other DNS checking services reports what Iwould expect and the site is functioning correctly. Research I have done with regard to Website Status: inactive suggests an issue with the DNS configuration? I am looking for help understanding if this is something to be concerned with and if possible how to update this value or how it gets set in the first place.

• Is it better to have AWS EC2 and RDS is the same Availability Zone?

However, one of them is in Availability Zone 1a and the other is in 1d. Am I getting all the speed benefits of having both instances in the same "data center" (East-1) even if they are in different Availability Zones, or can I optimize by moving them to the same Availability Zone?

• Can I use DllImport/PInvoke in libraries loaded as Assets in Unity Free?

  I am interested in using utilising third-party libraries in Unity Free. I know Unity can use managed libraries as Assets, but only the Pro version supports using native libraries. (DllImport within scripts). This thread however suggests that it is possible to import DLLs in the free version. I would like to utilise native libraries (as a hobbyist I cannot afford Pro), but want to do it the supported way so I don't have to worry about Unity 'fixing' this hole if that is what it is. Is there any supported way to use native libraries with Unity free? (i.e. does that thread suggest a workaround or is it a 'bug'? Is it supported to use DllImport/PInvoke in libraries loaded as assets? (could I create a wrapper myself?)
