• ASP.NET Thread Safety in aspx.cs code behind file

  I am thinking of adding a DataContext as a member variable to my aspx.cs code-behind class for executing LinqToSql queries. Is this thread safe? I am not sure if a new instance of this code-behind class is created for each HTTP request, or if the instance is shared amongst all request threads?   From the Wowhead Terms of Service: "Intellectual Property Rights The Service and any necessary software used in connection with the Service ("Software") contain proprietary and confidential information that is protected by applicable intellectual property and other laws. You agree not to modify, rent, lease, loan, sell, distribute or create derivative works based on the Service or the Software, in whole or in part." Does this mean that I can't write a program to consume a web service being published by the writers of this TOS? I find it kind of scary that I even have to ask this question. The wikipedia article on "derivative works" isn't very conclusive.

• Relvance of 'public' contructor in abstract class.

  Is there any relevance of a 'public' constructor in an abstract class? I can not think of any possible way to use it, in that case shouldn't it be treated as error by compiler (C#, not sure if other languages allow that). Sample Code: internal abstract class Vehicle { public Vehicle() { } } The C# compiler allows this code to compile, while there is no way i can call this contructor from the outside world. It can be called from derived classes only. So shouldn't it allow 'protected' and 'private' modifiers only. Please comment.

  I have a Contacts controller in the main/top area, and I have an area named "Contacts". I get POST 404s to the Contacts controller if I register my areas before I register my top-level routes: protected void Application_Start() { AreaRegistration.RegisterAllAreas(); ModelBinders.Binders.DefaultBinder = new NullStringBinder(); RouteConfig.RegisterRoutes(RouteTable.Routes); } And, if I register my areas after my routes, my 404s to the Contacts controller goes away, but my routes to the Contacts area are now 404s. ...lots of duplicate controller name questions logged, but I haven't found a specific scenario where the area is the same name as the controller. ...probably an easy fix. Would appreciate help. :-D

  I have a noodle scratcher that I can't seem to figure out. I am validating for unique usernames and emails addresses. I have the following rules: protected $rules = array( 'username' => 'required|min:4|unique:users,username', 'email' => 'email|unique:users,email', 'password' => 'min:6', ); If I update a form that has the username (which is the same as it currently is), I get a The username has already been taken. error. If I do the same with the email, I get no error at all. I know about adding the last param to the unique validation: 'unique:users,username,{{$id}}' or 'unique:users,username,'.$id This doesn't work on the username. I get the same issue. I can't figure out why this works for the email, but not the username. Anyone had a similar issue or know where I am going wrong? Many thanks,

• NoClassDefFoundError with new eclipse bundle

  I am informed by a customer that they are receiving an error. On the report they filed it is continuosly coming up with NoClassDefFoundError. It appears none of my other customers are having this issue. I'm not having this issue running the app on my Motorola Droid Maxx. The customer is running the app on a rooted Droid Bionic. Everything was working fine on my version at 2.3 but when I updated it to 2.4, this issue arose. I also replaced my computer with a new and now I am running windows 8 and installed the adt bundle. The only change I made to the file in question in changing a -90 to -85. Below is the code...I have also included below the code the error report. • How do I render a partial to a string from within a filter attached to a controller

  I have some code I need to use in multiple controllers in a rails 1.0 application (I can't, for strange reasons upgrade to a newer rails). I've extracted the relevant code into a filer object, and I'm using the around_filter construct to execute it. Before the extract, I was using the method render_to_string() to get the contents of a rendered partial into a string. However, this method is protected, so I am unable to access it from within my Filter object. As a workaround, I tried adding this to my ApplicationController: def render_to_string(*a) super(*a) end this seems to have remedied the protection level issue, but now I get the error: Can only render or redirect once per action When no such error occurred before the extraction. Why? Is there a different approach I should take here?
