  • How to Find Your IP Address in Ubuntu Linux

    In Windows, we use the command-line program ipconfig to find out our IP address. How do you find it in Ubuntu? We will show you two locations easily accessible through the GUI and, of course, a terminal command that will get your IP address in no time. The first location, and the easiest in most cases, is found by right clicking the network icon in the notification area and clicking Connection Information. This brings up a window which has a bunch of information, including your IP address. The second location, which shows you more detail than this first method, is at System > Administration > Network Tools. Select the right network device, and you’ve got a ton of information at your fingertips. Finally, if you can’t tear yourself away from a terminal window, the command to type in is: ifconfig Yes, it’s only one character different than ipconfig. Who would have guessed? As it turns out, you’re always a few clicks or keystrokes away from finding your IP address in Ubuntu. Isn’t choice great?   • Configuring vsftpd with nginx on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

    I've attempted to configure a nginx / vsftpd server on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (via amazon ec2) a couple times now, but I seem to keep making a mistake along the way. Currently, when I try to connect to my ftp server it takes a minute or so before it connects. Then when I issue a command, they all timeout with an operation failed error. Aside from these issues, I'm not completely confident with the file ownership & permissions or the configuration / settings. So, I think it's best if I just re-install and re-configure correctly. I believe the nginx installation comes with a default user of www-data:www-data and web root directory ownership by root:root. Vsftpd, however, needs to have a user created with the same group as the nginx user (www-data), and the same home directory as the nginx server (/usr/share/nginx/www), with g+w chmod permissions granted on that directory. The vsftpd.conf file should disable anonymous logins and enable local logins, file writing, and chroot local users. In my previous config, I had /bin/false set for the ftp user's shell and pam_shells.so disabled. I also had local_umask set to 0027. So, starting with a fresh ec2 instance, I've got: sudo apt-get install vsftpd sudo apt-get install nginx For the firewall I issued the command (not sure if necessary): sudo ufw allow ftp Which commands / config is recommended from here? I only need 1 ftp user that I can use to login with my ftp client to modify the single nginx web domain, which will need php & sql for WordPress.

  • How to set ulimits in Solaris 10

    I normally use pam_limits.so and /etc/security/limits.conf to set ulimits on filesize/cputime etc for the regular users logging in to my server running Ubuntu. Can anyone give the best way of doing similar with Solaris 10. I think it is done using /etc/system but have no idea what to add to the file or indeed if it is the correct file. I'm particularly interested in setting up ulimit -f without going down the .profile route.

  • Seeing 10.x.x.x addresses in my BitTorrent client

    Off late, I am seeing a number of IP addresses starting with 10.x.x.x in my bittorrent peer list. Aren't these IP addresses supposed to be private ones? I don't understand how I am able to see the IP address instead of the WAN (external IP) of the client... Any one knows why?

"VmwareTools-4.0.0-193498.tar.gz" The tools wont start: Unable to start services for vmware tools Paravirtual ISCSI module: Failed Guest vmxnet fast network device: Failed. I fixed the guest vmxent ERROR by changing the NIC mode. any hint? i cant be the only one with the same problem..

  • Apache config on Suse 10

    We upgraded from Suse 9 to Suse 10 which upgrade apache from 2.0.x to 2.2.x. Now I cannot access the website using the hostname. I can access using defined ServerName in the VirtualHost config but when using http://servername/path I get a 403 access denied error. Do I have to do anything extra to be able to access the site using servername?

  • File and Printer Sharing, in 10.0.0.x

    Hi, I have a strange problem: When I assign addresses of the form 10.0.0.x to my computers, file sharing (smb) does not work. When I assign them addresse of the form 192.168.1.x it works... OS is XP SP3, for subnetmasks i tried both 255.255.255.0 and 255.0.0.0 Any ideas what I can do? [EDIT] I forgot to add: pinging doesn't work either

  • pix 501 encryption license reduces inside hosts to 10

    Hi I have an unlimted pix 501 with no encryption license installed. I have applied for and received a 3DES license. When I install the 3DES license, the inside hosts goes from unlimited to 10. Thankfully I had the presence of mind to keep a note of the old activation key. Is this normal behaviour? I would have thought not as I bought the pix as unlimited. Thanks Cammy

    I am trying to install packadges SUNWi1cs and SUNWi15cs for Oracle 11g on Solaris 10 (VMWare Player). NO cdrom (I dont know how to mount it the iso file is on USB device), I transferd the ISO and unzip the ISO in a directory I run: "pkgadd -d /export/michel/SOLARIS_10/PRODUCT SUNi1cs" == process datastream failed ... errno=2. I've check the web without success, many answers but none that fit my prob. Thank you

  • virtual mac osx 10.6.8 in VMWare does not save screen captures

    I have a VMWare image of a mac OSX 10.6.8 (fully updated). When I click Commnd+Shift+3 it makes a camera shutter sound, but no screen-capture is saved anywhere that I can find. When running: defaults read com.apple.screencapture location it returns /Users/admin/Pictures/Captures this folder exists and is empty also executed chmod 777 /Users/admin/Pictures/Captures Any ideas anyone ? Could this be related to the VMware screen resolution(Size) of this MAC? (currently set to 1348x1391)

  • Problems connecting Clariion LUNS to Solaris 10

    I've got a Clariion San and a Solaris 10 server with an emulex HBA. The Thin LUNS are visible in Solaris and I can happily format the raw devices. Unfortunately that's all I can do. All other operations result in I/O errors. I'm running current versions of PowerPath and Solaris is patched as high as it'll go. Anyone have any similar experiences?

  • Connecting multiple ColdFusion 10 instances to a single Apache 2.2 server

    This is on Windows 7 Home Premium edition. I have got two ColdFusion 10 (updater 2) instances: "cfusion" (the default one), and "scratch". I have got a single instance of Apache 2.2 running. Within Apache, I have set up two virtual hosts, each of which needs to be served by a different ColdFusion instance. Each of the CF instances serves files fine via Tomcat's internal web server. Apache serves vanilla HTML files fine too. So both CF instances, and both virtual hosts separately work OK. I can get wsconfig.exe to connect either one of the CF instances to the Apache server, and serve CF files via Apache & that instance. However I cannot find a way of connecting the second CF instance to Apache as well, so that both CF instances are conected, each serving one of the virtual hosts. WSConfig doesn't seem to understand the notion of "multiple CF instances", and the changes it makes to the httpd.conf (via mod_jk.conf) does not seem to be implemented in such a way as to accommodate multiple CF instances talking to a single Apache instance, or multiple virtual hosts. I freely admit to not being confident enough with how mod_jk (or even really httpd.conf) works to be able to guess if I can change stuff to make it work. If I try to add the second CF instance using WSConfig, I just get a message "the web server is already configured for ColdFusion". Be that as it may... not the instance of ColdFusion I want to connect it to! If I remove the existing connector to whichever instance is already connected, I can then connect the other one no problems. Not that this helps, but it demonstrates that the CF instance can connect to Apache. This all used to be fairly straight fwd under older versions of CF and JRun :-( The only docs I have found are on the "Connect multiple Apache virtual hosts on a web server to a single ColdFusion server" page, but that specifically only deals with a single CF instance. There is no equivalent page for multiple CF instances. I'm kinda hoping I can move some of the mod_jk config into my virtual host entries in httpd-vhosts.conf (this is how it used to work for JRun), but I've no idea what to put where. I think I've covered all the necessary info here? If not, sing out and I'll add more. Thanks. PS: tried to specifically tag this as "ColdFusion-10" as the answer will be different from previous CF versions, but it won't let me cos my rep on this site is too low (odd how it doesn't consider my rep from other S/O sites...).   • Windows XP refuses to install on a dell mini 10

    I have a dell inspiron mini 10. It boots from an external CD-ROM drive and goes through the first part of the windows XP home install with no problem, but on reboot it loses the CD-Rom drive when it goes into sysprep. Any ideas on how to get around this to complete the install?
