• Where are Wireless Profiles stored in Ubuntu [closed]

  Where does Ubuntu store profiles that allow it to remember the credentials to private wireless networks that it has previously authenticate to and used? I just replaced my Uncle's hard drive with a new one and installed Ubuntu 10.04 on it (he had Ubuntu 9.10 on his old hard drive. He is at my house right now, and I want him to be able to access his private wireless network when he gets home. Usually, when I upgrade Ubuntu, I have his /home directory on another partition, so his wireless profile to his own network persists. However, right now, I'm trying to figure out which .folder I need to copy from his /home/user folder on the old hard drive, to the new hard drive, so that he will be able to have wireless Internet when he gets home. Does anyone know with certainty, exactly which folder I need to copy to the new hard drive to achieve this?

• Make a form not focusable in C#

  Hi! I'm wanting to write a virtual keyboard, like windows onscreen keyboard for touchscreen pcs. But I'm having problem with my virtual keyboard stealing the focus from the application being used. The windows onscreen keyboard mantains the focus on the current application even when the user clicks on it. Is there a way to do the same with windows forms in C#? The only thing I can do for now is to send a keyboard event to an especific application, like notepad in the following code. If I could make the form not focusable, I could get the current focused window with GetForegroundWindow. • UDP multicast streaming of media content over WIFI

  I am using vlc to stream media content over wireless network in scenario like this (from content streamer to stream receiver client): The bandwidth of wireless network is 54 Mb/s and UDP stream's required bandwidth is only 4 Mb/s; however there is trouble in receiving media stream and quality of playing specifically in multicast mode; means I can play the stream but it has jitter and does not play smoothly. In uni-cast I can stream up to 5 media streams correctly, but in multicast mode there is problem with streaming just one media! However when I stream from client some multicast streams; the wifi access-point can receive data correctly and I can see the video in "udp streamer" side correctly even when number of multicast streams increases to 9; But as you see I want to stream from streaming server and receive media in client size. Is this a typical problem of streaming real-time contents over wireless networks? Is it necessary to change configurations of my WIFI switch or it is just a software trouble? thank you

Here is what happens if I follow the steps from Windows 7: Right click the network icon and click "Network and Sharing Center": Click "Set up a new connection or network": Where is the option to create an ad hoc network? Therefore I have two related questions: Did I miss something? Is it in there somewhere and I just haven't found it yet? If this feature is not available, is there a tool somewhere I can use that provides this capability? Further information: I have an Intel Wireless WiFi 4965 AGN adapter. I tried the Intel PRO wireless tool and it didn't offer an ad hoc option.

  The Scenario I've got an iMac G5 20" (First All-In-One White Screen) PPC. It has an Airport Extreme Network card in order to wirelessly to connect to the internet. For the most part I connect using ethernet as opposed to wirelessly, but recently have had the need to connect using the wireless. The Hardware BT Home Broadband Wireless Router. iMac G5 20" From about 5 years ago (First All-In-One White Screen) The Issue Even though I know for a fact that It has connected to the internet wireslessly in the past, for some reason it can discover the wireless router, but upon entering the password it fails to connect. I have tried multiple times to no avail. I have 2 other Mac's on the network and a pc that can all connect wirelessly. However both the mac's. Question Any ideas as to why my really old iMac G5 can't connect wirelessly anymore!?

• ifconfig return "unknown interface: no such device"

  I'm trying to install a Linux driver for my wireless network card (D-Link DWL-G510) on my Red Hat Linux 7.1 machine with a 2.4.37.9 kernel. I downloaded the serial monkey driver from the sourceforge site and was able to successfully compile the rt73 module and load it into the kernel. The problem now is that everytime I issue the command ifconfig wlan0 up it keeps returning with the following error message: wlan0: unknown interface: No such device. I'm at a loss as to what to do here. I specifed wlan0 as the alias for the rt73 module in the modules.conf and also tried to load the driver with the command modprobe rt73 ifname=wlan0 (this specifies the interface name according to the instructions packaged in the driver), but the error message still keeps coming up. Is there something else I need to do in Linux to configure the wlan0 part or is the module not recognizing the wireless network card? It would be quite strange if it is the later since all information from the Internet is indicating this is the linux driver I should be using for mentioned wireless card.

  Hi, after a other mac or macbook is connected with a mini display port to a new generation imac you can switch between the imac and the other connected mac pressing cmd+F2(brightness up) using the keyboard of the imac. i connect my macbook to my imac, switch to the macbook and connect the bluetooth keyboard and mouse of my imac to my macbook. after that i'm not able to switch back to my imac, because the keyboard is used on my macbook. i have a second mouse connected to my imac, so i'd would be cool to switch views and control my imac with my second mouse. is it possible to send the shortcut cmd+F2 to my imac from my macbook? via command line or something? using apple script? all ideas are welcome, thanks!

• Music Nav Doesn't Work After Installing IntelliType

  I have started using a Microsoft Sidewinder X4 Keyboard. It came with the Microsoft IntelliType Pro software. Since I have installed the software I am not able to change my music via the play | previous | next buttons at the top of the keyboard. I use iTunes and not Windows Media Player. How do I solve this issue? Here is a screenshot of the Keyboard Properties: Note: I am on Windows 8 using iTunes 11. Uninstalling the IntelliType software is not an option as I use the macros.

• 802.11N Windows XP Clients Unable to See Each Other

  I am attempting to update my wireless network from 802.11g to 802.11n. When connected to the 'G' access point, the client laptops (there are 7 running Windows XP) are able to connect and browse the network for each other. When I connect them to the 'N' access point they can see the access point, but not the rest of the network. I tried swapping out the access point with a wireless router, but this did not change anything. I verified in both the AP and the router that isolation was turned off. Searching the web has not turned up any other ideas. The manuals don't show anything either. Why can't my wireless client nodes see each other on the 'N' network?

  At work, our ISP has gone down, 3 days running. A company next door has kindly provided us with access to their wireless network, and I'd like to get our internal mail server (win 7) to become online via that wireless connection, while being accessible from within the LAN, but I'm struggling with the windows configuration. Our company's LAN subnet (wired interface) sits on 192.168.0. Neighbour's wireless subnet 192.168.1. Features it needs to have: should NOT display the keyboard layout on the screen! should give detailed statistics which actually measure progress (for which key do I have the highest error rate, graphs showing how typing speed improved over time, etc) should enable me to actually learn touch-typing in about one long weekend were I don't do much else than learning to touch-type. it would be very good if it were possible to load a text-file and the program will use words from the text-file for the exercises as well My goals are: at least same typing speed as I have now but which touch-typing, want to be able to look at the screen only when typing P.S.: EDIT: I forgot to mention, I'm using Win 7. • Windows Server 2008 R2 and Keyboards

  Hello, I have a machine with WIN server 2008 R2 installed, when the machine boots up, it says keyboard failure. The keyboard I had was from an older machine and was PS/2, I got a PS/2 to USB converter in order for it to work, but it says keyboard failure and doesn't work. Is it because it's pretty old and that's it, or does it have to be USB? I'm going to look into a new one, but want to make sure I don't get this issue again... Thanks.

  I would like to have some kind of statistic of my daily mouse/keyboard usage to help me make my keyboard layout a little bit more efficient. There is already an question about how to do this on windows, but I would like to know I anyone is aware if this is possible under linux. Another thing I already found is key-mon, a little program for screencasts that displays your mouse and keyboard presses on the screen, which would help me achieve what I want with a little bit of python coding by myself.   I have a TP-Link router with DSL service provided by a local company which serves it over the landline phone. My landline cord is plugged into an ethernet router which is then plugged into TP-Link wireless router. I can access internet with this wireless router all over my home with all computers. Landline Cord [into] Ethernet Router [into] TP-Link Wireless Router [air] Computers I would add that landline cord is also into a phone device which I use to make calls and that's not cordless. Now I am accessing internet via WiFi on my laptop and want to ask if is this possible to make landline calls via this same computer I am surfing internet through? What I am asking it to a dial-up via TP-Link router that goes through landline. You see the landline cord is the actual data gateway and is also used to make calls. So it can simultaneously send Data and Voice over the same wire.

  I have a desktop PC which was recently moved. Since moving I've noticed that even while the PC is turned off (but wall socket turned on) the NumLock LED on the keyboard is on. It may have been doing this before the move, but I've only noticed it now. Maybe it matters that the keyboard is connected via a shared mouse/keyboard PS/2 port and I'm running Windows 7. I've not checked whether the LEDs are just keeping whatever state they were in when I turned the PC off but will do this if that information could be relevant. Why does the led stay on when the PC is turned off and how can I prevent this?

• Using WDS to make a router act like a makeshift signal booster

  I've got a router that supports WDS, and I was wondering if I could use it to help extend the range of an existing wireless router? The PC I'm using right now is just barely within the signal range of a wireless router, and the signal is rather weak so I moved my wireless USB adapter away from the computer using a USB extension cord and used a pie tin + some packing tape + a stack of books and a tall wooden stand to make a sort of reflector dish. Sometime in the future I'd like other PCs to be able to connect wirelessly but with the way things are set up I can't move any farther from this spot or I lose the signal entirely. Can I use WDS to bridge the two networks together both to increase the range of the first network and allow computers connected to the 2nd router to share internet access?

• Num Lock of laptop working strangely [Dell Vostro 1710]

  My laptop model is Dell Vostro 17" and it has numeric keypad. The problem is that its Num Lock key works very strange. Sometimes when I press it the information led of Num Lock activates, but sometimes when I try to activate numeric keypad it refuses and this led doesn't activate and therefore numeric keypad doesn't work at all. Does it mean that I need to change my keyboard at all? In addition Esc key doesn't work for a long time. I think the main reason for that is my son (2year old) who started playing with my laptop from his 1st year. If I need to change the keyboard where can I buy it for a good price, because in Dell I think when I called them 2-3 months ago they offered me keyboard for about more then 50Euros. Currently I live in Spain. Thanks.

  I'm using CentOS 6.3 x86_64 on a hardware with a BCM43224 chip for wi-fi. I installed the b43-fwcutter module and then run modprobe b43, with no error messages. • Sharing a wifi connection between different user profiles on Windows XP

  I've set-up two separate user profiles on an old laptop running Windows-XP, and noted the following strange behaviour. When the wireless network is setup using WEP both user profiles can connect to the internet and I can switch between user profiles, without network connectivity issues. However when I changed the wireless security to WPA2, the first user to connect gets access to the internet, when switching to the second profile the connection fails. The behaviour is the same regardless of which of the two profiles logs on first. I also tried this with one user with admin rights and one without, and got the same result. I'm not too concerned about a fix for this other than forcing the users to log-off when sharing the laptop, but I'd be interested to know if anyone can corroborate my findings. The network config was done using Intel® PROSet/Wireless.

Are there any life-hack tricks to increase signal/range of my repeater without buying the new more powerful repeater? I've tried already to move my repeater closer to the ceiling or putting the aluminium foil underneath, but it didn't help.   I'm having trouble with my wifi connection. Is there any software out there that can help me determine if the problem is in the drivers or in the hardware? Regretfully, I'm working on Vista Edit: The problem I'm having is that the Vista reports that the wireless radio is connected, shows an IP and all, the router also shows that the computer is connected, but there's no connectivity. I can't logon to the router, and I can't even ping it. When I ping it I get the response: General Failure I have tried connecting with and without various wireless security protocols. I have tried disabling the wireless adapter and re-enabling it from the Device Manager I have tried updating the driver None of this has helped. When I connect via Ethernet (with a cable, that is), everything works fine. Edit: I'm not using any firewall on the computer, that I'm aware of. The IP address for the WIFI adapter is similar to the one for the LAN adapter. They differ by one.

• Why is my iPhone WIFI so slow at home?

  When my iPhone is connected to my home wireless network, the internet is unusably slow. I installed the speedtest.net application; here are some results from tonight: Down: 0.0kB/s, Up: 0.0kB/s, ping: 2230ms Down: 2.5kB/s, Up: 40.5kB/s, ping: 2182ms Down: 0.0kB/s, Up: 20.0kB/s, ping: 197ms For comparison, here is the result from my iMac to the same server, which is on the same wireless network (and has no wired connection): Down: 139kB/s, Up: 53.8kB/s, ping: 182ms Neither my iMac nor the Dell laptop also on the network have experienced the wifi problems I get with my iPhone. On the other hand, I tried browsing a website on the wireless network at work with no problems. EDIT: SpeedTest at work gives me 156kB/s down. EDIT2: Girlfriend (owner of the Dell) reports actually the internet is sometimes very slow. Perhaps there is more going on. No problems with my iMac. My router is a ASUS WL-500g Premium V2 running OpenWrt Kamikaze with X-Wrt Extensions 8.09.
