  Hi guys, I have a TV tuner (Hauppage diversity), and I would like to be able to see live TV from Windows Media Player. I've searched the web, but havent found anything on how to make Windows Media Player to access a TV tuner. The reason for using WMP rather than the Media Center is actually for work, because I am developping a video plugin for media player, and I'd like to test it using live TV footage.   I can find plenty of information on how to clear Google Chrome's recent browsing data, in various periods, as well as clearing all browsing data. But I want to clear old browsing data—say for a start, anything over two months old. (I'm trying to save space on a crowded laptop.) Does anyone know any principled way to do this, or shall I just dive into ~/.config/google, start removing likely-looking files, and hope for the best. I run Google Chrome on Debian Linux.

  I downloaded Azureus (a bittorrent client) for Debian Linux, and I notice that Azureus got my firewall (a Verizon wireless base station) to open a TCP and UDP port forwarding for it, without my having to do anything. My base station is password protected, and I'm alarmed at the idea that any random application can open ports without my knowing about it. Can somebody explain to me what is going on and how it is possible that Azureus can create this port-forwarding rule without any authentication?

• Suddenly get "apt-get: symbol lookup error" when using apt-get

  I have no idea what has gone wrong here. I have installed the audiotool sox, then tried to install the library libsox-fmt-all and all of a sudden apt-get refused to work. I cannot use it now, neither to update nor to install anything. Could somebody suggest what i could do to get it back to work? In which order should I install the OSs, and is there anything differing from an ordinary single-system install I should keep in mind? For example, does the order of partition make any difference? If I want to have the system drive as "C:" drive in both Win XP and Win 7, what should I do?

  I see the option in Visio 2003 to only trust macros stored in trusted locations, but I can't find any way to set up what these trusted locations are. My problem is I have a template file that's not signed in the VBA project but the VBA project is locked (so I can't just sign it myself). So, there are only two ways I can stop the warning: lower my security settings so anything with macros will run (not a good idea) Tell Visio that the template is in a trusted location (if this is even possible)

  On one linux server (Gentoo hardened), we are experiencing bursts of the following messages in dmesg from time to time: TCP: Treason uncloaked! Peer xx.xx.xxx.xxx:65039/80 shrinks window 4094157295:4094160199. Repaired. Is there anything we should take care of or is this normal? Update: Maybe related, we are using net.ipv4.tcp_congestion_control = cubic. Kernel version is 2.6.28 with Gentoo hardening patches.

• Testing Firewire 800 port on MacBook Pro

  I am having trouble getting my MacBook pro to mount an external Firewire hard drive. I am able to mount the disk no problem on other Macs, just not my machine. I haven't received any errors from my machine, and don't see anything related to the Firewire port in the logs. Are there good diagnostic tools for this type of problem that come with the Mac? other free alternatives ?

  I have a webserver running a number of websites. When I ssh in, it gives me a tab name of [email protected], which is counterintuitive, making it seem like those tabs are on my localhost. I would like to change the hostname, but I want to be sure that it won't break anything else. So for what purposes does that hostname string get used, and how can I be sure that it won't affect any functioning systems?

The problem is that I connect to a remote VPS (Ubuntu), and when Internet connection is disrupted n reconnected, I can no longer do anything on the terminal. I installed Samba with the following configuration: [global] workgroup = COMPANY netbios name = MANTIS security = share Now on all our windows machines people can simple go to http://mantis, rather than http://172.16.0.20. However, this doesn't appear to work on the Mac machines. Any ideas how I can sort this without changing anything on the Windows server?

• If I use a video format converter to change a movie from AVI to MKV, will quality stay the same?

  I know they're both container formats and what matters is the actual codec used, but what I don't know is if video converting software will do anything to change the codec, or if it just repackages. The reason I need to know is that I have several .avi files with subtitle files, and I'm wanting to turn them into .mkv so I can attach the subs and not need a second subtitle file anymore. Will my new .mkv files be identical in video and audio quality to the original .avi?
