• iPhone: How many instances of AVAudioPlayer should I have for multiple sounds?

  So I'm using AvAudioPlayer to play multiple wav files. About 20 different sounds (each about 1 sec long), and you can think of each being played on a button press. Also I don't need them all to play simultaneously, i.e., one plays and you press another button to play another one (which stops the currently played one). What I'm wondering, should I have multiple instances of AVAudioPlayer (20 of them) and then preload the audio files, or should I just use one instance of AvAudioPlayer and each time a button is pressed, initialize the AvAudioPlayer with the sound url (or would this be too slow?)   Am hoping someone can help me out a bit with date ranges... I have a table with 3 fields id, datestart, dateend I need to query this to find out if a pair of dates from a form are conflicting i.e table entry 1, 2010-12-01, 2010-12-09 from the form 2010-12-08, 20-12-15 select id from date_table where '2010-12-02' between datestart and dateend; That returns me the id that I want, but what I would like to do is to take the date range from the form and do a query similar to what I have got that will take both form dates 2010-12-08, 20-12-15 and query the db to ensure that there is no conflicting date ranges in the table. Am sat scratching my head with the problem... TIA

• Facebook photo additions showing as separate / individual posts

  When posting additional photos to an existing Facebook album, each individual photo is being displayed on the mobile Facebook view as a separate post. Desktop display still groups them (correctly) into 1 album and shows as a single post. For instance, if I add 20 photos to an album, the people who have liked my page will see 20 individual posts in their feed from my account on their mobile devices. This has been happening for about 2 weeks now as far as I've noticed. My upload process has not changed. I should note that I've noticed this behavior by uploading via Lightroom as well as through the direct Facebook interface. Has anyone else experienced this? Did something change that I am not aware of? Thanks.

• Resizing an image with alpha channel

  I am writing some code to generate images - essentially I have a source image that is large and includes transparent regions. I use GDI+ to open that image and add additional objects. What I want to do next is to save this new image much smaller, so I used the Bitmap constructor that takes a source Image object and a height and width, then saved that. I was expecting the alpha channel to be smoothed like the color channels, but this did not happen -- it did result in a couple of semitransparent pixels, but overall it is very blocky. What gives?   Just wondering if there is a way to take some of the repitition out of a LINQ to SQL projected type. Example: Table: Address Fields: AddressID, HouseNumber, Street, City, State, Zip, +20 more Class MyAddress: AddressID, HouseNumber, Street (Only 3 fields) LINQ: from a in db.Addresses select new MyAddress { AddressID = a.AddressID, HouseNumber = a.HouseNumber, Street = a.Street } The above query works perfectly, and I understand why something like this will return all 20+ fields in each row: from a in db.Addresses select new MyAddress(a); class MyAddress { public MyAddress(Address a) { this.AddressID = a.AddressID, this.HouseNumber = a.HouseNumber, this.Street = a.Street } } Which leads me to my Question: Is it possible to implement some kind of helper function or extension method to "map" from the LINQ model to MyAddress yet only return the necessary fields in the query result rather than all of the fields?

  Hi All, I have a silverlight application that requires the user to login. The problem is when you hit the refresh button on the web page it reloads the site, and requires the user to login again. What I want it to do is act like ASP .NET where the user will remain logged in for 20 minutes even if they hit the refresh button. What mechanism is ASP .NET using to achieve this? Does it use session variables for instance, and how does it expire after 20 minutes? Thanks.

• Setting Corner Radius on UIImageView not working

  I'm at a bit of a loss. I've used the layer property of UIView to round the corners of multiple elements in my app. However, this one UIImageView is simply not complying. Not sure what I am missing. The UIImageView (called previewImage) is contained in a Table View Cell. • Best indexing strategy for several varchar columns in Postgres

  I have a table with 10 columns that need to be searchable (the table itself has about 20 columns). So the user will enter query criteria for at least one of the columns but possibly all ten. All non-empty criteria is then put into an AND condition Suppose the user provided non-empty criteria for column1 and column4 and column8 the query would be: select * from the_table where column1 like '%column1_query%' and column4 like '%column4_query%' and column8 like '%column8_query%' So my question is: am I better off creating 1 index with 10 columns? 10 indexes with 1 column each? Or do I need to find out what sets of columns are queried together frequently and create indexes for them (an index on cols 1,4 and 8 in the case above). If my understanding is correct a single index of 10 columns would only work effectively if all 10 columns are in the condition. Open to any suggestions here, additionally the rowcount of the table is only expected to be around 20-30K rows but I want to make sure any and all searches on the table are fast. Thanks!

Example: this.Chart.X = 10; this.Chart.Y = 10; this.Chart.Width = 20; this.Chart.Height = 20; this.Chart.Background = Color.Red; However, I must repeat "this.Chart" many times. How to avoid this.   Hello all, This is probably an easy one. I have about 20 TextViews/ImageViews in my current project that I access like this: ((TextView)multiLayout.findViewById(R.id.GameBoard_Multi_Answer1_Text)).setText(""); //or ((ImageView)multiLayout.findViewById(R.id.GameBoard_Multi_Answer1_Right)).setVisibility(View.INVISIBLE); My question is this, am I better off, from a performance standpoint, just assigning these object variables? Further, am I losing some performance to the constant "search" process that goes on as a part of the findViewById(...) method? (i.e. Does findsViewById(...) use some sort of hashtable/hashmap for look-ups or does it implement an iterative search over the view hierarchy?) At present, my program never uses more than 2.5MB of RAM, so will assigning 20 or so more object variables drastically affect this? I don't think so, but I figured I'd ask. Thanks.

  In short, how to add minutes to a datetime from an integer located in another table, in one select statement, by joining them? I have a table P(int id, ..., int minutes) and a table S(int id, int p_id, datetime start) I want to generate a view that gives me PS(S.id, P.id, S.start + P.minutes) by joining S.p_id=P.id The problem is, if I was generating the query from the application, I can do stuff like: select datetime('2010-04-21 14:00', '+20 minutes'); 2010-04-21 14:20:00 By creating the string '+20 minutes' in the application and then passing it to sqlite. However I can't find a way to create this string in the select itself: select p.*,datetime(s.start_at, formatstring('+%s minutes', p.minutes)) from p,s where s.p_id=p.id; Because sqlite as far the documentation tells, does not provide any string format function, nor can I see any alternative way of expressing the date modifiers.

• Get/save parameters to an expected JMock method call?

  Hi, I want to test an "Adapter" object that when it receives an xml message, it digest it to a Message object, puts message ID + CorrelationID both with timestamps and forwards it to a Client object.=20 A message can be correlated to a previous one (e.g. m2.correlationID =3D m1.ID). I mock the Client, and check that Adapter successfully calls "client.forwardMessage(m)" twice with first message with null correlationID, and a second with a not-null correlationID. However, I would like to precisely test that the correlationIDs are set correctly, by grabing the IDs (e.g. m1.ID). But I couldn't find anyway to do so. There is a jira about adding the feature, but no one commented and it is unassigned. Is this really unimplemented? I read about the alternative of redesigning the Adapter to use an IdGenerator object, which I can stub, but I think there will be too many objects.=20 Don't you think it adds unnecessary complexity to split objects to a so fine granularity?
