  • What level of detail to use in an interface members descriptions?

    - by famousgarkin
    I am extracting interfaces from some classes in .NET, and I am not completely sure about what level of detail of description to use for some of the interface members (properties, methods). An example: interface ISomeInterface { /// <summary> /// Checks if the object is checked out. /// </summary> /// <returns> /// Returns true if the object is checked out, or if the object locking is not enabled, /// otherwise returns false. /// </returns> bool IsObjectCheckedOut(); } class SomeImplementation : ISomeInterface { public bool IsObjectCheckedOut() { // An implementation of the method that returns true if the object is checked out, // or if the object locking is not enabled } } The part in question is the <returns>...</returns> section of the IsObjectCheckedOut description in the interface. Is it ok to include such a detail about return value in the interface itself, as the code that will work with the interface should know exactly what that method will do? All the current implementations of the method will do just that. But is it ok to limit the possible other/future implementations by description this way? Or should this not be included in the interface description, as there is no way to actually ensure that other/future implementations will do exactly this? Is it better to be as general as possible regarding the interface in such circumstances? I am currently inclined to the latter option.

  • WCF REST Error Handler

    - by Elton Stoneman
    I’ve put up on GitHub a sample WCF error handler for REST services, which returns proper HTTP status codes in response to service errors.   The code is very simple – a ServiceBehavior implementation which can be specified in config to tag the RestErrorHandler to a service. Any uncaught exceptions will be routed to the error handler, which sets the HTTP status code and description in the response, based on the type of exception.   The sample defines a ClientException which can be thrown in code to indicate a problem with the client’s request, and the response will be a status 400 with a friendly error message:       throw new ClientException("Invalid userId. Must be provided as a positive integer");   - responds:   Request URL http://localhost/Sixeyed.WcfRestErrorHandler.Sample/ErrorProneService.svc/lastLogin?userId=xyz   Error Status Code: 400, Description: Invalid userId. Must be provided as a positive integer   Any other uncaught exceptions are hidden from the client. The full details are logged with a GUID to identify the error, and the response to the client is a status 500 with a generic message giving them the GUID to follow up on:       var iUserId = 0;     var dbz = 1 / iUserId;   - logs the divide-by-zero error and responds:   Request URL http://localhost/Sixeyed.WcfRestErrorHandler.Sample/ErrorProneService.svc/dbz     Error Status Code: 500, Description: Something has gone wrong. Please contact our support team with helpdesk ID: C9C5A968-4AEA-48C7-B90A-DEC986F80DA5   The sample demonstrates two techniques for building the response. For client exceptions, a friendly HTML response is sent in the body as well as the status code and description. Personally I prefer not to do that – it doesn’t make sense to get a 400 error and find text/html when you’re expecting application/json, but it’s easy to do if that’s the functionality you want. The other option is to send an empty response, which the sample does with server exceptions.   The obvious extension is to have multiple exceptions representing all the status codes you want to provide, then your code is as simple as throwing the relevant exception – UnauthorizedException, ForbiddenExeption, NotImplementedException etc – anywhere in the stack, and it will be handled nicely.

  • Are there design patterns or generalised approaches for particle simulations?

    - by romeovs
    I'm working on a project (for college) in C++. The goal is to write a program that can more or less simulate a beam of particles flying trough the LHC synchrotron. Not wanting to rush into things, me and my team are thinking about how to implement this and I was wondering if there are general design patterns that are used to solve this kind of problem. The general approach we came up with so far is the following: there is a World that holds all objects you can add objects to this world such as Particle, Dipole and Quadrupole time is cut up into discrete steps, and at each point in time, for each Particle the magnetic and electric forces that each object in the World generates are calculated and summed up (luckily electro-magnetism is linear). each Particle moves accordingly (using a simple estimation approach to solve the differential movement equations) save the Particle positions repeat This seems a good approach but, for instance, it is hard to take into account symmetries that might be present (such as the magnetic field of each Quadrupole) and is this thus suboptimal. To take into account such symmetries as that of the Quadrupole field, it would be much easier to (also) make space discrete and somehow store form of the Quadrupole field somewhere. (Since 2532 or so Quadrupoles are stored this should lead to a massive gain of performance, not having to recalculate each Quadrupole field) So, are there any design patterns? Is the World-approach feasible or is it old-fashioned, bad programming? What about symmetry, how is that generally taken into acount?

  • How should I implement Transaction database EJB 3.0

    - by JamesBoyZ
    In the CustomerTransactions entity, I have the following field to record what the customer bought: @ManyToMany private List<Item> listOfItemsBought; When I think more about this field, there's a chance it may not work because merchants are allowed to change item's information (e.g. price, discount, etc...). Hence, this field will not be able to record what the customer actually bought when the transaction occurred. At the moment, I can only think of 2 ways to make it work. I will record the transaction details into a String field. I feel that this way would be messy if I need to extract some information about the transaction later on. Whenever the merchant changes an item's information, I will not update directly to that item's fields. Instead, I will create another new item with all the new information and keep the old item untouched. I feel that this way is better because I can easily extract information about the transaction later on. However, the bad side is that my Item table may contain a lot of rows. I'd be very grateful if someone could give me an advice on how I should tackle this problem. UPDATE: I'd like to add more information about the current design. public class Customer implements Serializable { @OneToMany private List<CustomerTransactions> listOfTransactions; } public class CustomerTransactions implements Serializable { @ManyToMany private List<Item> listOfItemsBought; } public class Merchant implements Serializable { @OneToMany private List<Item> listOfSellingItems; }

  • ForEach with EditorFor

    - by hermiod
    I have got an Entity model which contains a collection of Message objects which are of the type Message which has several properties, including content, MessageID, from, and to. I have created an EditorTemplate for type Message, however, I cannot get it to display the contents of the Messages collection. There are no errors, but nothing is output. Please note that the view code is from an EditorTemplate for the parent Talkback class. Can you have an EditorTemplate calling another EditorTemplate for a child collection? Both the Talkback and Message class are generated by Entity framework from an existing database. View code: <% foreach (TalkbackEntityTest.Message msg in Model.Messages) { Html.EditorFor(x=> msg, "Message"); } %> This is my template code. It is the standard auto-generated view code with some minor changes. <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<TalkbackEntityTest.Message>" %> <%: Html.ValidationSummary(true) %> <fieldset> <legend>Fields</legend> <div class="editor-label"> <%: Html.LabelFor(model => model.MessageID) %> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%: Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.MessageID) %> <%: Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.MessageID) %> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%: Html.LabelFor(model => model.acad_period) %> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%: Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.acad_period) %> <%: Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.acad_period) %> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%: Html.LabelFor(model => model.talkback_id) %> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%: Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.talkback_id) %> <%: Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.talkback_id) %> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%: Html.LabelFor(model => model.From) %> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%: Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.From) %> <%: Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.From) %> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%: Html.LabelFor(model => model.To) %> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%: Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.To) %> <%: Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.To) %> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%: Html.LabelFor(model => model.SentDatetime) %> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%: Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.SentDatetime, String.Format("{0:g}", Model.SentDatetime)) %> <%: Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.SentDatetime) %> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%: Html.LabelFor(model => model.content) %> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%: Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.content) %> <%: Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.content) %> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%: Html.LabelFor(model => model.MessageTypeID) %> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%: Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.MessageTypeID) %> <%: Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.MessageTypeID) %> </div> <p> <input type="submit" value="Save" /> </p> </fieldset> There is definitely content in the Message collection as, if I remove EditorFor and put in response.write on the content property of the Message class, I get the content field for 3 Message objects on the page, which is exactly as expected.

  • Saving image from Gallery to db - Coursor IllegalStateException

    - by MyWay
    I want to save to db some strings with image. Image can be taken from gallery or user can set the sample one. In the other activity I have a listview which should present the rows with image and name. I'm facing so long this problem. It occurs when I wanna display listview with the image from gallery, If the sample image is saved in the row everything works ok. My problem is similar to this one: how to save image taken from camera and show it to listview - crashes with "IllegalStateException" but I can't find there the solution for me My table in db looks like this: public static final String KEY_ID = "_id"; public static final String ID_DETAILS = "INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT"; public static final int ID_COLUMN = 0; public static final String KEY_NAME = "name"; public static final String NAME_DETAILS = "TEXT NOT NULL"; public static final int NAME_COLUMN = 1; public static final String KEY_DESCRIPTION = "description"; public static final String DESCRIPTION_DETAILS = "TEXT"; public static final int DESCRIPTION_COLUMN = 2; public static final String KEY_IMAGE ="image" ; public static final String IMAGE_DETAILS = "BLOP"; public static final int IMAGE_COLUMN = 3; //method which create our table private static final String CREATE_PRODUCTLIST_IN_DB = "CREATE TABLE " + DB_TABLE + "( " + KEY_ID + " " + ID_DETAILS + ", " + KEY_NAME + " " + NAME_DETAILS + ", " + KEY_DESCRIPTION + " " + DESCRIPTION_DETAILS + ", " + KEY_IMAGE +" " + IMAGE_DETAILS + ");"; inserting statement: public long insertToProductList(String name, String description, byte[] image) { ContentValues value = new ContentValues(); // get the id of column and value value.put(KEY_NAME, name); value.put(KEY_DESCRIPTION, description); value.put(KEY_IMAGE, image); // put into db return db.insert(DB_TABLE, null, value); } Button which add the picture and onActivityResult method which saves the image and put it into the imageview public void AddPicture(View v) { // creating specified intent which have to get data Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_PICK); // From where we want choose our pictures intent.setType("image/*"); startActivityForResult(intent, PICK_IMAGE); } @Override protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data); // if identification code match to the intent, //if yes we know that is our picture, if(requestCode ==PICK_IMAGE ) { // check if the data comes with intent if(data!= null) { Uri chosenImage = data.getData(); String[] filePathColumn = {MediaStore.Images.Media.DATA}; Cursor cursor = getContentResolver().query(chosenImage, filePathColumn, null, null, null); cursor.moveToFirst(); int columnIndex = cursor.getColumnIndex(filePathColumn[0]); String filePat = cursor.getString(columnIndex); cursor.close(); ImageOfProduct = BitmapFactory.decodeFile(filePat); if(ImageOfProduct!=null) { picture.setImageBitmap(ImageOfProduct); } messageDisplayer("got picture, isn't null " + IdOfPicture); } } } Then the code which converts bitmap to byte[] public byte[] bitmapToByteConvert(Bitmap bit ) { // stream of data getted for compressed bitmap ByteArrayOutputStream gettedData = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); // compressing method bit.compress(CompressFormat.PNG, 0, gettedData); // our byte array return gettedData.toByteArray(); } The method which put data to the row: byte[] image=null; // if the name isn't put to the editView if(name.getText().toString().trim().length()== 0) { messageDisplayer("At least you need to type name of product if you want add it to the DB "); } else{ String desc = description.getText().toString(); if(description.getText().toString().trim().length()==0) { messageDisplayer("the description is set as none"); desc = "none"; } DB.open(); if(ImageOfProduct!= null){ image = bitmapToByteConvert(ImageOfProduct); messageDisplayer("image isn't null"); } else { BitmapDrawable drawable = (BitmapDrawable) picture.getDrawable(); image = bitmapToByteConvert(drawable.getBitmap()); } if(image.length>0 && image!=null) { messageDisplayer(Integer.toString(image.length)); } DB.insertToProductList(name.getText().toString(), desc, image ); DB.close(); messageDisplayer("well done you add the product"); finish(); You can see that I'm checking here the length of array to be sure that I don't send empty one. And here is the place where Error appears imo, this code is from activity which presents the listview with data taken from db private void LoadOurLayoutListWithInfo() { // firstly wee need to open connection with db db= new sqliteDB(getApplicationContext()); db.open(); // creating our custom adaprer, the specification of it will be typed // in our own class (MyArrayAdapter) which will be created below ArrayAdapter<ProductFromTable> customAdapter = new MyArrayAdapter(); //get the info from whole table tablecursor = db.getAllColumns(); if(tablecursor != null) { startManagingCursor(tablecursor); tablecursor.moveToFirst(); } // now we moving all info from tablecursor to ourlist if(tablecursor != null && tablecursor.moveToFirst()) { do{ // taking info from row in table int id = tablecursor.getInt(sqliteDB.ID_COLUMN); String name= tablecursor.getString(sqliteDB.NAME_COLUMN); String description= tablecursor.getString(sqliteDB.DESCRIPTION_COLUMN); byte[] image= tablecursor.getBlob(3); tablefromDB.add(new ProductFromTable(id,name,description,image)); // moving until we didn't find last row }while(tablecursor.moveToNext()); } listView = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.tagwriter_listoftags); //as description says // setAdapter = The ListAdapter which is responsible for maintaining //the data backing this list and for producing a view to represent //an item in that data set. listView.setAdapter(customAdapter); } I put the info from row tho objects which are stored in list. I read tones of question but I can't find any solution for me. Everything works when I put the sample image ( which is stored in app res folder ). Thx for any advice

  • ASP.NET. MVC2. Entity Framework. Cannot pass primary key value back from view to [HttpPost]

    - by Paul Connolly
    I pass a ViewModel (which contains a "Person" object) from the "EditPerson" controller action into the view. When posted back from the view, the ActionResult receives all of the Person properties except the ID (which it says is zero instead of say its real integer) Can anyone tell me why? The controllers look like this: public ActionResult EditPerson(int personID) { var personToEdit = repository.GetPerson(personID); FormationViewModel vm = new FormationViewModel(); vm.Person = personToEdit; return View(vm); } [HttpPost] public ActionResult EditPerson(FormationViewModel model) <<Passes in all properties except ID { // Persistence code } The View looks like this: <%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<Afp.Models.Formation.FormationViewModel>" %> <% using (Html.BeginForm()) {% <%= Html.ValidationSummary(true) % <fieldset> <legend>Fields</legend> <div class="editor-label"> <%= Html.LabelFor(model => model.Person.Title) %> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Person.Title) %> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Person.Title) %> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%= Html.LabelFor(model => model.Person.Forename)%> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Person.Forename)%> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Person.Forename)%> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%= Html.LabelFor(model => model.Person.Surname)%> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Person.Surname)%> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Person.Surname)%> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%= Html.LabelFor(model => model.DOB) %> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.DOB, String.Format("{0:g}", Model.DOB)) <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.DOB) %> </div>--%> <div class="editor-label"> <%= Html.LabelFor(model => model.Person.Nationality)%> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Person.Nationality)%> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Person.Nationality)%> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%= Html.LabelFor(model => model.Person.Occupation)%> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Person.Occupation)%> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Person.Occupation)%> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%= Html.LabelFor(model => model.Person.CountryOfResidence)%> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Person.CountryOfResidence)%> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Person.CountryOfResidence)%> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%= Html.LabelFor(model => model.Person.PreviousNameForename)%> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Person.PreviousNameForename)%> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Person.PreviousNameForename)%> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%= Html.LabelFor(model => model.Person.PreviousSurname)%> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Person.PreviousSurname)%> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Person.PreviousSurname)%> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%= Html.LabelFor(model => model.Person.Email)%> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Person.Email)%> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Person.Email)%> </div> <p> <input type="submit" value="Save" /> </p> </fieldset> <% } % And the Person class looks like: [MetadataType(typeof(Person_Validation))] public partial class Person { public Person() { } } [Bind(Exclude = "ID")] public class Person_Validation { public int ID { get; private set; } public string Title { get; set; } public string Forename { get; set; } public string Surname { get; set; } public System.DateTime DOB { get; set; } public string Nationality { get; set; } public string Occupation { get; set; } public string CountryOfResidence { get; set; } public string PreviousNameForename { get; set; } public string PreviousSurname { get; set; } public string Email { get; set; } } And ViewModel: public class FormationViewModel { public Company Company { get; set; } public Address RegisteredAddress { get; set; } public Person Person { get; set; } public PersonType PersonType { get; set; } public int CurrentStep { get; set; } } }

  • Getting ClassCastException with JSF 1.2 Custom Component and BEA 10.3

    Im getting a ClassCastException if i use Attributes in my Custom Headline Tag. Without Attributes rendering works fine. • Problem with updating data in asp .NET MVC 2 application

    - by Bojan
    Hello everyone, i am just getting started with asp .NET MVC 2 applications and i stumbled upon a problem. I'm having trouble updating my tables. The debugger doesn't report any error, it just doesn't do anything... I hope some can help me out. Thank you for your time. This is my controller code... public ActionResult Edit(int id) { var supplierToEdit = (from c in _entities.SupplierSet where c.SupplierId == id select c).FirstOrDefault(); return View(supplierToEdit); } // // POST: /Supplier/Edit/5 [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Edit(Supplier supplierToEdit) { if (!ModelState.IsValid) return View(); try { var originalSupplier = (from c in _entities.SupplierSet where c.SupplierId == supplierToEdit.SupplierId select c).FirstOrDefault(); _entities.ApplyPropertyChanges(originalSupplier.EntityKey.EntitySetName, supplierToEdit); _entities.SaveChanges(); // TODO: Add update logic here return RedirectToAction("Index"); } catch { return View(); } } This is my View ... <h2>Edit</h2> <% using (Html.BeginForm()) {%> <%= Html.ValidationSummary(true) %> <fieldset> <legend>Fields</legend> <div class="editor-label"> <%= Html.LabelFor(model => model.CompanyName) %> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.CompanyName) %> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.CompanyName) %> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%= Html.LabelFor(model => model.ContactName) %> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.ContactName) %> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.ContactName) %> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%= Html.LabelFor(model => model.ContactTitle) %> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.ContactTitle) %> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.ContactTitle) %> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%= Html.LabelFor(model => model.Address) %> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Address) %> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Address) %> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%= Html.LabelFor(model => model.City) %> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.City) %> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.City) %> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%= Html.LabelFor(model => model.PostalCode) %> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.PostalCode) %> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.PostalCode) %> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%= Html.LabelFor(model => model.Country) %> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Country) %> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Country) %> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%= Html.LabelFor(model => model.Telephone) %> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Telephone) %> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Telephone) %> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%= Html.LabelFor(model => model.Fax) %> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Fax) %> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Fax) %> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%= Html.LabelFor(model => model.HomePage) %> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.HomePage) %> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.HomePage) %> </div> <p> <input type="submit" value="Save" /> </p> </fieldset> <% } %> <div> <%= Html.ActionLink("Back to List", "Index") %> </div>

    Please help me to rectify my code. Here I have described the code what and why I am using... and finally whatI am getting at the end, but the end output is not the way what I want... Please help and tell how I can rectify it... $count = substr_count($row4['ACTION_STATEMENT'], " IF (NEW.");/*here i will get how many time i will get " IF (NEW." in my string.*/ $exp1 = explode("(NEW.",$row4['ACTION_STATEMENT']);/*I exploded it from "NEW."*/ /*echo "<pre>"; print_r($exp1);*/ for($i=1;$i<count($exp1);$i++)/*Loop for values in $exp1*/ { //echo $exp1[$i]; $exp2[] = explode(" !=",$exp1[$i]);/*exploded by " !="*/ }//print_r($exp2); $flag = true; if($flag == true) { $column = mysqli_query($link,"SELECT * FROM COLUMNS WHERE TABLE_SCHEMA = '".$row3['TABLE_SCHEMA']."' and TABLE_NAME = '".$row3['TABLE_NAME']."'"); /*This query will give me 21 values*/ while ($row5 = mysqli_fetch_array($column)) {/*echo "<pre>pd"; print_r($row5);*/ foreach($exp2 as $fieldsarr)/*loop used for further comaprison of $exp2 with above query values*/ { echo "<br>"; //print_r($fieldsarr); if($fieldsarr[0] == $row5['COLUMN_NAME'] )/*Comparison of values*/ { if($fieldsarr[0]!='id') {//echo $fieldsarr[0]; mysqli_select_db($link,'pranav_test'); $aud = mysqli_query($link,"SELECT * FROM `jos_menuaudit`") or die("DEAD".mysqli_error()); while($audit = mysqli_fetch_array($aud)) { echo "<pre>"; echo $fieldsarr[0].$row5['COLUMN_NAME']; print_r($audit); /*Values displayed according to query written above after true comparsion of conditions*/ } } } } mysqli_select_db($link,'information_schema'); } } Now from above code The output I am getting is namenameArray ( [0] => 1 [id] => 1 [1] => 0 [menuid] => 0 [2] => name [field] => name [3] => test_PSD_111 [oldvalue] => test_PSD_111 [4] => test_SPD_111 [newvalue] => test_SPD_111 [5] => 2010-03-24 11:42:26 [changedone] => 2010-03-24 11:42:26 ) namenameArray ( [0] => 2 [id] => 2 [1] => 0 [menuid] => 0 [2] => name [field] => name [3] => test_SPD_111 [oldvalue] => test_SPD_111 [4] => test_SD_111 [newvalue] => test_SD_111 [5] => 2010-03-24 11:44:22 [changedone] => 2010-03-24 11:44:22 ) namenameArray ( [0] => 3 [id] => 3 [1] => 0 [menuid] => 0 [2] => name [field] => name [3] => test_SD_111 [oldvalue] => test_SD_111 [4] => test_PSD_111 [newvalue] => test_PSD_111 [5] => 2010-03-24 11:46:28 [changedone] => 2010-03-24 11:46:28 ) namenameArray ( [0] => 4 [id] => 4 [1] => 0 [menuid] => 0 [2] => name [field] => name [3] => test_PSD_111 [oldvalue] => test_PSD_111 [4] => test_PD_111 [newvalue] => test_PD_111 [5] => 2010-03-24 11:47:30 [changedone] => 2010-03-24 11:47:30 ) namenameArray ( [0] => 5 [id] => 5 [1] => 0 [menuid] => 0 [2] => name [field] => name [3] => test_PD_111 [oldvalue] => test_PD_111 [4] => test_P_111 [newvalue] => test_P_111 [5] => 2010-03-24 11:49:25 [changedone] => 2010-03-24 11:49:25 ) aliasaliasArray ( [0] => 1 [id] => 1 [1] => 0 [menuid] => 0 [2] => name [field] => name [3] => test_PSD_111 [oldvalue] => test_PSD_111 [4] => test_SPD_111 [newvalue] => test_SPD_111 [5] => 2010-03-24 11:42:26 [changedone] => 2010-03-24 11:42:26 ) aliasaliasArray ( [0] => 2 [id] => 2 [1] => 0 [menuid] => 0 [2] => name [field] => name [3] => test_SPD_111 [oldvalue] => test_SPD_111 [4] => test_SD_111 [newvalue] => test_SD_111 [5] => 2010-03-24 11:44:22 [changedone] => 2010-03-24 11:44:22 ) aliasaliasArray ( [0] => 3 [id] => 3 [1] => 0 [menuid] => 0 [2] => name [field] => name [3] => test_SD_111 [oldvalue] => test_SD_111 [4] => test_PSD_111 [newvalue] => test_PSD_111 [5] => 2010-03-24 11:46:28 [changedone] => 2010-03-24 11:46:28 ) aliasaliasArray ( [0] => 4 [id] => 4 [1] => 0 [menuid] => 0 [2] => name [field] => name [3] => test_PSD_111 [oldvalue] => test_PSD_111 [4] => test_PD_111 [newvalue] => test_PD_111 [5] => 2010-03-24 11:47:30 [changedone] => 2010-03-24 11:47:30 ) aliasaliasArray ( [0] => 5 [id] => 5 [1] => 0 [menuid] => 0 [2] => name [field] => name [3] => test_PD_111 [oldvalue] => test_PD_111 [4] => test_P_111 [newvalue] => test_P_111 [5] => 2010-03-24 11:49:25 [changedone] => 2010-03-24 11:49:25 ) thatis, all the five values from query are displayed on every single comaprison getting true. Now here What I want is after the completion of every comparison I want to display the final query result Only Once... How to accomplish this..Please help....

  • Visual Studio 2013, ASP.NET MVC 5 Scaffolded Controls, and Bootstrap

    - by plitwin
    A few days ago, I created an ASP.NET MVC 5 project in the brand new Visual Studio 2013. I added some model classes and then proceeded to scaffold a controller class and views using the Entity Framework. Scaffolding Some Views Visual Studio 2013, by default, uses the Bootstrap 3 responsive CSS framework. Great; after all, we all want our web sites to be responsive and work well on mobile devices. Here’s an example of a scaffolded Create view as shown in Google Chrome browser   Looks pretty good. Okay, so let’s increase the width of the Title, Description, Address, and Date/Time textboxes. And decrease the width of the  State and MaxActors textbox controls. Can’t be that hard… Digging Into the Code Let’s take a look at the scaffolded Create.cshtml file. Here’s a snippet of code behind the Create view. Pretty simple stuff. @using (Html.BeginForm()) { @Html.AntiForgeryToken() <div class="form-horizontal"> <h4>RandomAct</h4> <hr /> @Html.ValidationSummary(true) <div class="form-group"> @Html.LabelFor(model => model.Title, new { @class = "control-label col-md-2" }) <div class="col-md-10"> @Html.EditorFor(model => model.Title) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Title) </div> </div> <div class="form-group"> @Html.LabelFor(model => model.Description, new { @class = "control-label col-md-2" }) <div class="col-md-10"> @Html.EditorFor(model => model.Description) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Description) </div> </div> .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } A little more digging and I discover that there are three CSS files of importance in how the page is rendered: boostrap.css (and its minimized cohort) and site.css as shown below.   The Root of the Problem And here’s the root of the problem which you’ll find the following CSS in Site.css: /* Set width on the form input elements since they're 100% wide by default */ input, select, textarea { max-width: 280px; } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } Yes, Microsoft is for some reason setting the maximum width of all input, select, and textarea controls to 280 pixels. Not sure the motivation behind this, but until you change this or overrride this by assigning the form controls to some other CSS class, your controls will never be able to be wider than 280px. The Fix Okay, so here’s the deal: I hope to become very competent in all things Bootstrap in the near future, but I don’t think you should have to become a Bootstrap guru in order to modify some scaffolded control widths. And you don’t. Here is the solution I came up with: Find the aforementioned CSS code in SIte.css and change it to something more tenable. Such as: /* Set width on the form input elements since they're 100% wide by default */ input, select, textarea { max-width: 600px; } Because the @Html.EditorFor html helper doesn’t support the passing of HTML attributes, you will need to repalce any @Html.EditorFor() helpers with @Html.TextboxFor(), @Html.TextAreaFor, @Html.CheckBoxFor, etc. helpers, and then add a custom width attribute to each control you wish to modify. Thus, the earlier stretch of code might end up looking like this: @using (Html.BeginForm()) { @Html.AntiForgeryToken() <div class="form-horizontal"> <h4>Random Act</h4> <hr /> @Html.ValidationSummary(true) <div class="form-group"> @Html.LabelFor(model => model.Title, new { @class = "control-label col-md-2" }) <div class="col-md-10"> @Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Title, new { style = "width: 400px" }) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Title) </div> </div> <div class="form-group"> @Html.LabelFor(model => model.Description, new { @class = "control-label col-md-2" }) <div class="col-md-10"> @Html.TextAreaFor(model => model.Description, new { style = "width: 400px" }) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Description) </div> </div> .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } Resulting Form Here’s what the page looks like after the fix: Technorati Tags: ASP.NET MVC,ASP.NET MVC 5,Bootstrap

  • Automating Form Login

    - by Greg_Gutkin
    Introduction A common task in configuring a web application for proxying in Pagelet Producer is setting up form autologin. PP provides a wizard-like tool for detecting the login form fields, but this is usually only the first step in configuring this feature. If the generated configuration doesn't seem to work, some additional manual modifications will be needed to complete the setup. This article will try to guide you through this process while steering you away from common pitfalls. For the purposes of this article, let's assume the following characteristics about your environment: Web Application Base URL: http://host/app (configured as Resource Source URL in PP) Pagelet Producer Base URL: http://pp/pagelets Form Field Auto-Detection Form Autologin is configured in the PP Admin UI under resource_name/Autologin/Form Login. First, you'll enter the URL to the login form under "Login Form Identification". This will enable the admin wizard to connect to and display the login page. Caution: RedirectsMake sure the entered URL matches what you see in the browser's address bar, when the application login page is displayed. For example, even though you may be able to reach the login page by simply typing http://host/app, the URL you end up on may change to http://host/app/login via browser redirect(s).The second URL is the one you will want to use. Caution: External Login ServersThe login page may actually come from a different server than the application you are trying to proxy. For example, you may notice that the login page URL changes to http://hostB/appB. This is common when external SSO products are involved. There are two ways of dealing with this situation. One is to configure Pagelet Producer to participate in SSO. This approach is out of scope of this article and is discussed in a separate whitepaper (TODO add link). The second approach is to use the autologin feature to provide stored credentials to the SSO login form. Since the login form URL is not an extension of the application base URL (PP resource URL), you will need to add a new PP resource for the SSO server and configure the login form on that resource instead of the original application resource. One side benefit of this additional resource is that it can reused for other applications relying on the same SSO server for login. After entering the login page URL (make sure dropdown says "URL"), click "Automatically Detect Form Fields". This will bring up the web app's login page in a new browser window. Fill it out and submit it as you would normally. If everything goes right, Pagelet Producer will intercept the submitted values and fill out all the needed configuration data in the Admin UI. If the login form window doesn't close or configuration data doesn't get filled in, you may have not entered the login page URL correctly. Review the two cautionary notes above and make any necessary changes. If the form fields got filled automatically, it's time to save the configuration and test it out. If you can access a protected area of the backend application via a proxied PP URL without filling out its login form, then you are pretty much done with login form configuration. The only other step you will need to complete before declaring this aspect of configuration production ready is configuring form field source. You may skip to that section below. Manual Login Form Identification Let's take a closer look at Login Form Identification. This determines how Pagelet Producer recognizes login forms as such. URL The most efficient way of detecting login forms is by looking at the page URL. This method can only be used under the following conditions: Login page URL must be different from the post login application URLs. Login page URL must stay constant regardless of the path it takes to reach the page. For example, reaching the login page by going to the application base URL or to a specific protected URL must result in a redirect to the same login page URL (query string excluded). If only the query string parameters change, just leave out the query string from the configured login page URL. If either of these conditions is not fullfilled, you must switch to the RegEx approach below. RegEx If the login page URL is not uniform enough across all scenarios or is indistinguishable from other page locations, PP can be configured to recognize it by looking at the page markup itself. This is accomplished by changing the dropdown to "RegEx". If regular expressions scare you, take comfort from the fact that in most cases you won't need to enter any special regex characters. Let's look at an example: Say you have a login form that looks like <form id='loginForm' action='login?from=pageA' > <input id='user'> <input id='pass'> </form> Since this form has an id attribute, you can be reasonably sure that this login form can be uniquely identified across the web application by this snippet: "id='loginForm'". (Unless, of course your backend web application contains login forms to other apps). Since no wildcards are needed to find this snippet, you can just enter it as is into the RegEx field - no special regular expression characters needed! If the web developer who created the form wasn't kind enough to provide a unique id, you will need to look for other snippets of the page to uniquely identify it. It could be the action URL, an input field id, or some other markup fragment. You should abstain from using UI text as an identifier it may change in translated versions of the page and prevent the login page logic from working for international users. You may need to turn to regular expression wildcard syntax if no simple matches work. For more information on regular expression, refer to the Resources section. Form Submit Location Now we'll look at the form submit location. If the captured URL contains query string parameters that will likely change from one form submission to the next, you will need to change its type to RegEx. This type will tell Pagelet Producer to parse the login page for the action URL and submit to the value found. The regular expression needs to point at the actual action URL with its first grouping expression. Taking the example form definition above, the form submit location regex would be: action='(.*?)' The parentheses are used to identify the actual action URL, while the rest of the expression provides the context for finding it. Expression .*? is a so-called reluctant wildcard that matches any character excluding the single quote that follows. See Resources section below for further information on regular expressions. Manual Form Field Detection If the Admin UI form field detection wizard fails to populate login form configuration page, you will have to enter the fields by hand. Use a built-in browser developer tool or addon (e.g. Firebug) to inspect the form element and its children input elements. For each input element (including hidden elements), create an entry under Form Fields. Change its Source according to the next section. Form Field Source Change the source of any of the fields not exposed to the users of the login form (i.e. hidden fields) to "Generated". This means Pagelet Producer will just use the values returned by the web app rather than supplying values it stored. For fields that contain sensitive data or vary from user to user (e.g. username & password), change the source to User (Credential) Vault. Logging Support To help you troubleshoot you autologin configuration, PP provides some useful logging support. To turn on detailed logging for the autologin feature, navigate to Settings in Admin UI. Under Logging, change the log level for AutoLogin to Finest. Known Limitations Autologin feature may not work as expected if login form fields (not just the values, but the DOM elements themselves) are generated dynamically by client side JavaScript. I have a WCF Web Service which is kept under an Application Pool on IIS. Lately I've been getting "Service Unavaiable" when I'm trying to make calls to this Web Service. The first thing I tried to do was restarting the Application Pool. I did it and after a couple of seconds, it crashed and stopped. Looking at the Event Viewer, I found these messages, which by the moment couldn't help me to find where the problem is. A process serving application pool 'X' reported a failure. The process id was '11616'. The data field contains the error number. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. After getting a couple of these, I got this one: Application pool 'X' is being automatically disabled due to a series of failures in the process(es) serving that application pool. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. I've already checked permissions and Application Pool configurations but everything seems to be OK. Have anyone been through this? Thanks in advance.

  • When to Store Temporary Values in Hidden Field vs. Session vs. Database?

    - by viatropos
    I am trying to build a simple OpenID login panel similar to how Stack Overflow's works. The goal is: User clicks OpenID/Oauth provider OpenID/Oauth stuff happens, we end up with the result (already made that) Then we want to confirm that the user wants to actually create a new account (vs. associating account with another OpenID account). In StackOverflow, they keep a hidden field on a form that looks like this: <form action="/users/openidconfirm" method="post"> <p>This is an OpenID we haven't seen on Stack Overflow before:</p> <p class="openid-identifier">https://me.yahoo.com/a/some-hash</p> <p>Do you want to associate this OpenID with your Stack Overflow account?</p> <div> <input type="hidden" name="fkey" value="9792ab2zza1q2a4ac414casdfa137eafba7"> <input type="hidden" name="s" value="c1a3q133-11fa-49r0-a7bz-da19849383218"> <input type="submit" value="Associate OpenID"> <input type="button" value="Cancel" onclick="window.location.href = 'http://stackoverflow.com/users/169992/viatropos?s=c1a3q133-11fa-49r0-a7bz-da19849383218'"> </div> </form> Initial question is, what are those hashes fkey and s? Not that I really care what these specific hashes are, but what it seems like is happening is they have processed the openid response and saved it to the DB in a temporary object or something, and from there they generate these keys, because they don't look like Oauth keys to me. Main situation is: after I have processed OpenID/Oauth responses, I don't yet want to create a new user/account until the user submits the "confirm" form. Should I store the keys and tokens temporarily in a "Confirm" form like this? Or is there a better way? It seems that using a temp database object would be a lot of work to manage properly. Thanks for the help. Lance

  • How to fix “Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute. “when using Copy.asmx in SharePoint2010

    - by ybbest
    Problem: In my current project, we use copy.asmx web services in SharePoint2010 to upload a document to a document library. In one of the document library, when uploading a document with a choice field, it blows up and the error message is Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute. Analysis: After some research , we found out the problem is that we have 2 content types that both have a field called Document Type , although the internal name are different but the display name are exactly the same and this cause the problem. I am still not too sure why, it could possibly a SharePoint bug. Solution: After rename one of the field display name to a different name, it works like a charm. You can download source code with the problem here and source code without the problem here.

  • Extending QuickBooks Reporting with the QuickBooks ADO.NET Data Provider

    - by dataintegration
    The ADO.NET Provider for QuickBooks comes with several reports you may request from QuickBooks by default. However, there are many more that are not readily available. The ADO.NET Provider for QuickBooks makes it easy for you to create new reports and customize existing ones. In this article, we will illustrate how to create your own report and retrieve it from the Server Explorer in Visual Studio. For this example we will show how to create an Item Profitability Report. Creating the report script file Step 1: Download the sample reports available here. Extract them to a folder of your choice. Step 2: Make a copy of the ReportGeneralSummary.rsd file and rename it to ItemProfitability.rsd. Then open the file in any text editor. Step 3: Open the installation directory of the ADO.NET Provider for QuickBooks. Under the \db\ folder, locate the ReportJob.rsb file. Open this file in another text editor. Note: Although we are using ReportJob.rsb for this example, other reports may be contained in other Report*.rsb files. We recommend consulting the included help file and first locating the Report stored procedure and ReportType you are looking for. Otherwise, you may open each Report*.rsb file and look under the "reporttype" input for the report you are attempting to create. Step 4: First, let's rename the title of ItemProfitability.rsd. Near the top of the file you will see a title and description. Change the title to match the name of the file. Change the description to anything you like. For example: <rsb:info title="ItemProfitability" description="Executes my custom report."> Just below the Title, there are a number of columns. The Id represents the row number. The RowType represents the type of data returned by QuickBooks. The ColumnValue* columns represent all of the column data returned by QuickBooks. In some instances, we may need to add additional ColumnValue columns. Step 5: To add additional ColumnValue columns, simply copy the last column, paste it directly below, and continue increasing the numerical value at end of the attribute name. For example: <attr name="ColumnValue9" xs:type="string" readonly="true" required="false" desc="Represents a column of data."/> <attr name="ColumnValue10" xs:type="string" readonly="true" required="false" desc="Represents a column of data."/> <attr name="ColumnValue11" xs:type="string" readonly="true" required="false" desc="Represents a column of data."/> <attr name="ColumnValue12" xs:type="string" readonly="true" required="false" desc="Represents a column of data."/> ... Caution: Do not rename the ColumnValue* definitions themselves. They are generalized so that we can understand each type of report returned by QuickBooks. Renaming them to something other than ColumnValue* will cause your columns to return with null values. Step 6: Now let's update the available inputs for the table. From the ReportJob.rsb file, copy all of the input elements into ItemProfitability under the "Psuedo-Column definitions" comment. You will be replacing the existing input elements in ItemProfitability with inputs from ReportJob. When you are done, it should look like this: <!-- Psuedo-Column definitions --> <input name="reporttype" description="The type of the report." value="ITEMESTIMATESVSACTUALS,ITEMPROFITABILITY,JOBESTIMATESVSACTUALSDETAIL,JOBESTIMATESVSACTUALSSUMMARY,JOBPROFITABILITYDETAIL,JOBPROFITABILITYSUMMARY," default="ITEMESTIMATESVSACTUALS" /> <input name="reportperiod" description="Report date range in the format (fromdate:todate), and either value may be omitted for an open ended range (e.g. 2009-12-25:). Supported date format: yyyy-MM-dd." /> <input name="reportdaterangemacro" description="Use a predefined date range." value="ALL,TODAY,THISWEEK,THISWEEKTODATE,THISMONTH,THISMONTHTODATE,THISQUARTER,THISQUARTERTODATE,THISYEAR,THISYEARTODATE,YESTERDAY,LASTWEEK,LASTWEEKTODATE,LASTMONTH,LASTMONTHTODATE,LASTQUARTER,LASTQUARTERTODATE,LASTYEAR,LASTYEARTODATE,NEXTWEEK,NEXTFOURWEEKS,NEXTMONTH,NEXTQUARTER,NEXTYEAR," default="ALL" /> ... Step 7: Now let's update the operationname attribute. This needs to match the same operationname used by ReportJob. After you have copied the correct value from ReportJob.rsb, the operationname in ItemProfitability should look like so: <rsb:set attr="operationname" value="qbReportJob"/> Step 8: There is one more thing we can do to make this a true Item Profitability report. We can remove the reporttype input and hardcode the value. To do this, copy and paste the rsb:set used for operationname. Then rename the attr and value to match the name and value you want to use. For example: <rsb:set attr="operationname" value="qbReportJob"/> <rsb:set attr="reporttype" value="ITEMPROFITABILITY"/> After this you can remove the input for reporttype. Now that you have your own report file, we can move on to displaying the report in the Visual Studio server explorer. Accessing the report through the Data Provider Step 1: Open Visual Studio. In the Server Explorer, configure a new connection with the QuickBooks Data Provider. Step 2: For the Location connection string property, enter the directory where the new report has been saved to. Step 3: The new report should appear as a new view in the Server Explorer. Let's retrieve data from it. Step 4: You can specify any inputs in the WHERE clause. New Report Example Script To help you get started using this new QuickBooks Data Provider report, you will need to download the QuickBooks ADO.NET Data Provider and the fully functional sample script.

  • Goodbye XML&hellip; Hello YAML (part 2)

    Part 1 After I explained my motivation for using YAML instead of XML for my data, I got a lot of people asking me what type of tooling is available in the .Net space for consuming YAML.  In this post, I will discuss a nice tooling option as well as describe some small modifications to leverage the extremely powerful dynamic capabilities of C# 4.0.  I will be referring to the following YAML file throughout this post Recipe: Title: Macaroni and Cheese Description: My favorite comfort food. Author: Brian Genisio TimeToPrepare: 30 Minutes Ingredients: - Name: Cheese Quantity: 3 Units: cups - Name: Macaroni Quantity: 16 Units: oz Steps: - Number: 1 Description: Cook the macaroni - Number: 2 Description: Melt the cheese - Number: 3 Description: Mix the cooked macaroni with the melted cheese Tooling It turns out that there are several implementations of YAML tools out there.  The neatest one, in my opinion, is YAML for .NET, Visual Studio and Powershell.  It includes a great editor plug-in for Visual Studio as well as YamlCore, which is a parsing engine for .Net.  It is in active development still, but it is certainly enough to get you going with YAML in .Net.  Start by referenceing YamlCore.dll, load your document, and you are on your way.  Here is an example of using the parser to get the title of the Recipe: var yaml = YamlLanguage.FileTo("Data.yaml") as Hashtable; var recipe = yaml["Recipe"] as Hashtable; var title = recipe["Title"] as string; In a similar way, you can access data in the Ingredients set: var yaml = YamlLanguage.FileTo("Data.yaml") as Hashtable; var recipe = yaml["Recipe"] as Hashtable; var ingredients = recipe["Ingredients"] as ArrayList; foreach (Hashtable ingredient in ingredients) { var name = ingredient["Name"] as string; } You may have noticed that YamlCore uses non-generic Hashtables and ArrayLists.  This is because YamlCore was designed to work in all .Net versions, including 1.0.  Everything in the parsed tree is one of two things: Hashtable, ArrayList or Value type (usually String).  This translates well to the YAML structure where everything is either a Map, a Set or a Value.  Taking it further Personally, I really dislike writing code like this.  Years ago, I promised myself to never write the words Hashtable or ArrayList in my .Net code again.  They are ugly, mostly depreciated collections that existed before we got generics in C# 2.0.  Now, especially that we have dynamic capabilities in C# 4.0, we can do a lot better than this.  With a relatively small amount of code, you can wrap the Hashtables and Array lists with a dynamic wrapper (wrapper code at the bottom of this post).  The same code can be re-written to look like this: dynamic doc = YamlDoc.Load("Data.yaml"); var title = doc.Recipe.Title; And dynamic doc = YamlDoc.Load("Data.yaml"); foreach (dynamic ingredient in doc.Recipe.Ingredients) { var name = ingredient.Name; } I significantly prefer this code over the previous.  That’s not all… the magic really happens when we take this concept into WPF.  With a single line of code, you can bind to the data dynamically in the view: DataContext = YamlDoc.Load("Data.yaml"); Then, your XAML is extremely straight-forward (Nothing else.  No static types, no adapter code.  Nothing): <StackPanel> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Recipe.Title}" /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Recipe.Description}" /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Recipe.Author}" /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Recipe.TimeToPrepare}" /> <TextBlock Text="Ingredients:" FontWeight="Bold" /> <ItemsControl ItemsSource="{Binding Recipe.Ingredients}" Margin="10,0,0,0"> <ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Quantity}" /> <TextBlock Text=" " /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Units}" /> <TextBlock Text=" of " /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Name}" /> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> </ItemsControl> <TextBlock Text="Steps:" FontWeight="Bold" /> <ItemsControl ItemsSource="{Binding Recipe.Steps}" Margin="10,0,0,0"> <ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Number}" /> <TextBlock Text=": " /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Description}" /> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> </ItemsControl> </StackPanel> This nifty XAML binding trick only works in WPF, unfortunately.  Silverlight handles binding differently, so they don’t support binding to dynamic objects as of late (March 2010).  This, in my opinion, is a major lacking feature in Silverlight and I really hope we will see this feature available to us in Silverlight 4 Release.  (I am not very optimistic for Silverlight 4, but I can hope for the feature in Silverlight 5, can’t I?) Conclusion I still have a few things I want to say about using YAML in the .Net space including de-serialization and using IronRuby for your YAML parser, but this post is hopefully enough to see how easy it is to incorporate YAML documents in your code. Only clue I have is that I initially was having problems, tried using the old method of fixing isights (involving installing isight-firmware-tools) before realizing that I just hadn't turned on the VM setting to allow the VM to access the webcam. :) Anyway, I wonder if installing that messed something up. However, I think this is a red herring because I've: shut down and turned back on the Mac, restarted the VM, tried a different VM (for which I never installed isight-firmware-tools, and created an entirely new ubuntu vm. All instances have had this problem. Similarly, other viewers, such as cheese, avplay, avconv have had all various kinds of errors.

  • Anatomy of a .NET Assembly - CLR metadata 2

    - by Simon Cooper
    Before we look any further at the CLR metadata, we need a quick diversion to understand how the metadata is actually stored. Encoding table information As an example, we'll have a look at a row in the TypeDef table. According to the spec, each TypeDef consists of the following: Flags specifying various properties of the class, including visibility. The name of the type. The namespace of the type. What type this type extends. The field list of this type. The method list of this type. How is all this data actually represented? Offset & RID encoding Most assemblies don't need to use a 4 byte value to specify heap offsets and RIDs everywhere, however we can't hard-code every offset and RID to be 2 bytes long as there could conceivably be more than 65535 items in a heap or more than 65535 fields or types defined in an assembly. So heap offsets and RIDs are only represented in the full 4 bytes if it is required; in the header information at the top of the #~ stream are 3 bits indicating if the #Strings, #GUID, or #Blob heaps use 2 or 4 bytes (the #US stream is not accessed from metadata), and the rowcount of each table. If the rowcount for a particular table is greater than 65535 then all RIDs referencing that table throughout the metadata use 4 bytes, else only 2 bytes are used. Coded tokens Not every field in a table row references a single predefined table. For example, in the TypeDef extends field, a type can extend another TypeDef (a type in the same assembly), a TypeRef (a type in a different assembly), or a TypeSpec (an instantiation of a generic type). A token would have to be used to let us specify the table along with the RID. Tokens are always 4 bytes long; again, this is rather wasteful of space. Cutting the RID down to 2 bytes would make each token 3 bytes long, which isn't really an optimum size for computers to read from memory or disk. However, every use of a token in the metadata tables can only point to a limited subset of the metadata tables. For the extends field, we only need to be able to specify one of 3 tables, which we can do using 2 bits: 0x0: TypeDef 0x1: TypeRef 0x2: TypeSpec We could therefore compress the 4-byte token that would otherwise be needed into a coded token of type TypeDefOrRef. For each type of coded token, the least significant bits encode the table the token points to, and the rest of the bits encode the RID within that table. We can work out whether each type of coded token needs 2 or 4 bytes to represent it by working out whether the maximum RID of every table that the coded token type can point to will fit in the space available. The space available for the RID depends on the type of coded token; a TypeOrMethodDef coded token only needs 1 bit to specify the table, leaving 15 bits available for the RID before a 4-byte representation is needed, whereas a HasCustomAttribute coded token can point to one of 18 different tables, and so needs 5 bits to specify the table, only leaving 11 bits for the RID before 4 bytes are needed to represent that coded token type. For example, a 2-byte TypeDefOrRef coded token with the value 0x0321 has the following bit pattern: 0 3 2 1 0000 0011 0010 0001 The first two bits specify the table - TypeRef; the other bits specify the RID. Because we've used the first two bits, we've got to shift everything along two bits: 000000 1100 1000 This gives us a RID of 0xc8. If any one of the TypeDef, TypeRef or TypeSpec tables had more than 16383 rows (2^14 - 1), then 4 bytes would need to be used to represent all TypeDefOrRef coded tokens throughout the metadata tables. Lists The third representation we need to consider is 1-to-many references; each TypeDef refers to a list of FieldDef and MethodDef belonging to that type. If we were to specify every FieldDef and MethodDef individually then each TypeDef would be very large and a variable size, which isn't ideal. There is a way of specifying a list of references without explicitly specifying every item; if we order the MethodDef and FieldDef tables by the owning type, then the field list and method list in a TypeDef only have to be a single RID pointing at the first FieldDef or MethodDef belonging to that type; the end of the list can be inferred by the field list and method list RIDs of the next row in the TypeDef table. Going back to the TypeDef If we have a look back at the definition of a TypeDef, we end up with the following reprensentation for each row: Flags - always 4 bytes Name - a #Strings heap offset. Namespace - a #Strings heap offset. Extends - a TypeDefOrRef coded token. FieldList - a single RID to the FieldDef table. MethodList - a single RID to the MethodDef table. So, depending on the number of entries in the heaps and tables within the assembly, the rows in the TypeDef table can be as small as 14 bytes, or as large as 24 bytes. Now we've had a look at how information is encoded within the metadata tables, in the next post we can see how they are arranged on disk.

[I'm referring my surrounding environment, not all the industries]. My Question, How do they consider those MSc and BSc + experience guys in the industries? IMO, having MSc is great assert with comparing to have experience. Because, in the industry, you can drive in a particular technology (Java, .Net or some thing else), not all, and with MSc, we can get the domain knowledge, not a particular technology! Thanks!

  • Need to Determine the Engine Status?

    - by user702295
    If you need to establish the status of the engine, begin with this SQL: select status, engine, engine_version,fore_column_name from dm.forecast_history The status of an engine run is stored in the FORECAST_HISTORY table, in the “status” field.  We can also find in that table the FORE_COLUMN_NAME field. This field includes the name of the column in SALES_DATA in which the relevant forecast is stored. Here are the possible statuses: -1, -2 : The engine failed in the initialization phase.  Which means, before the engine manager created the engines.  0 : The engine stopped in the optimization phase.  Which means, after the engines were created.  1: The engine finished the run successfully.  2: Forecast was never calculated for the relevant column that is mentioned in FORE_COLUMN_NAME.

  • Implementing ASP.NET 4.0 Page.MetaDescription Property

    Before ASP.NET 4.0, you had to manually code your meta description tags. The meta description tag, though no longer used by major search engines in their ranking algorithm, is still an important factor for increasing website traffic. Bear in mind that searchers coming from search engines (such as Google) will only click on the results provided if the meta description is relevant to the query. If you want to increase your organic traffic (traffic coming from search engines) then one thing that you can easily improve are the meta descriptions. In ASP.NET 4.0, this can be easily implemented using...

  • How important is index size when searching?

    - by Michael K
    My company has recently began using Apache Solr to search its data. As we learn how to use it we have gone down the path of indexing multiple fields to get the results we need. Most of these are either N-Grammed or Edge-N-Grammed. Gramming by nature takes up a lot of space, which takes more time to search. Space is cheap, but time is less so. Index time is not too important, since a delta-import (only get the changes since last index) is extremely quick and you only pay a penalty on the first import. What we've not been able to determine is what effect the index size has on query times. Obviously a larger index takes longer to search, but the time added by n-gramming a field is difficult to predict. How do you determine whether a field is worth gramming? Can you predict how much longer a query will take when you gram a field?
