  • Win7 playback of dvr-ms files stutters

    I've just had to install Windows 7 on my Media Center machine because my Vista installation had a faulty drive. I've got the latest drivers that I can find - Intel 945GM integrated Graphics, Realtek audio drivers. Things are working OK with one exception. Playback of old recordings, from dvr-ms format files, is choppy. The picture freezes for a fraction of a second, then quickly catches up. The sound is uninterrupted and doesn't pause. These freezes happen once every 5 seconds or so. It's very regular. Playback of Live TV from the digital tuner is perfectly smooth. DVD playback is perfectly smooth. As an experiment, I used the MPEG editing package VideoReDo to create a small test file in three different formats. This program takes the raw MPEG streams and repackages them into the desired container. I took the same clip and created three files in three formats: dvr-ms (Microsoft's old recorded TV format); mpg (standard MPEG); and ts (raw MPEG transport stream of the kind often produced by PVRs). When these three files are played back under Windows 7, the mpg and ts files play smoothly, but the dvr-ms file stutters. The last piece of data I have is that two other Windows 7 machines can play back dvr-ms files smoothly with no stuttering. One is a netbook, with less grunt than the media centre. So there must be something specific about my Media Center machine that's causing the problem. Does anyone have any idea where I can look now? I don't know much about AV software, codecs, filter graphs etc. but I suspect that's where the problem lies. Rendering the video isn't the problem, but extracting the streams is. How would I go about diagnosing the problem? Edited to add: I just used the GraphStudio tool to look at the filter graph on the offending PC. The filter graph it uses by default for dvr-ms looks identical to the other machines, and, interestingly, when I play the files using GraphStudio they run smoothly. Under Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center they stutter. I'd like to see the filter graph for WMP but GraphStudio won't show it. It looks like WMP and WMC are using a different decoding path to GraphStudio. Edited again to add: Today I purchased a new HDTV. The same Media Center driving the TV at 1080p is now playing back the old Recorded TV files smoothly, without stuttering. So whatever the cause of the original problem, using a different resolution seems to have removed the problem. It might also explain why nobody else has had this problem. I doubt many people use Media Centre with a 14in portable TV.

    I am confused to why I have different information based on where I try to retrieve it from. I have 3 Windows 2012 servers (G0, G1, and G2) running Hyper-V. The following situation is captured from one server which I use to run scripts and control the others. The Hyper-V Manager application shows the same list as the PowerShell does. But if I run my scripts from the other two tools, which is what I mostly do, I don't have the same information available, therefore I can't manipulate the same VMs. I've also noticed that the Virtual Machine Manager shows the same list of VMs as the first two tools, PowerGUI and PowerShell ISE. Which information is valid? And how can I retrieve the correct list of VMs? How can I receive the correct information listed under Hyper-V using PowerGUI or PowerShell ISE?

  • Can someone provide an example of seeking, reading, and writing a >4GB file using boost iostreams

    I have read that boost iostreams supposedly supports 64 bit access to large files semi-portable way. Their FAQ mentions 64 bit offset functions, but there is no examples on how to use them.     I've the following code: var e = someList.GetEnumerator(); var a = new List<Foo>(); var b = new List<Foo>(); while(e.MoveNext()) { if(CheckCondition(e.Current)) { b.Add(e.Current); break; } a.Add(e.Current); } while(e.MoveNext()) b.Add(e.Current) This looks ugly. Basically, iterate through a list and add elements to one list until some condition kicks in, and add the rest to another list. Is there a better way e.g. using linq ? CheckCondition() is expensive, and the lists can be huge so I'd prefer to not do anything that iterates the lists twice.

    I'm new to python, and I'm trying to get to know the list comprehensions better. I'm not even really sure if list comprehension is the word I'm looking for, since I'm not generating a list. But I am doing something similar. This is what I am trying to do: I have a list of numbers, the length of which is divisible by three. So say I have nums = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6] I want to iterate over the list and get the sum of each group of three digits. Currently I am doing this: for i in range(0, len(nums), 3): nsum = a + b + c for a, b, c in nums[i, i+3] print(nsum) I know this is wrong, but is there a way to do this? I'm sure I've overlooked something probably very simple... But I can't think of another way to do this.

    I was just curious about some exact implementation details of lists in Haskell (GHC-specific answers are fine)--are they naive linked lists, or do they have any special optimizations? More specifically: Do length and (!!) (for instance) have to iterate through the list? If so, are their values cached in any way (i.e., if I call length twice, will it have to iterate both times)? Does access to the back of the list involve iterating through the whole list? Are infinite lists and list comprehensions memoized? (i.e., for fib = 1:1:zipWith (+) fib (tail fib), will each value be computed recursively, or will it rely on the previous computed value?) Any other interesting implementation details would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    Hello, to initialize a javascript loaded grid, I need to pass a list of values from controller/gsp. Since the javascript is activated once the page is rendered/loaded, there may not be a direct way to do it. 2 possibilities 1. do an ajax call, and retrieve the list of values from the server 2. store the list in html as a hidden element, and read it from javascript. option 2 seems better as it avoids few calls back to server. So, which control should I use for a list of values? Any jQuery code snippet to read it back into array/list. thanks in advance.

    Hello, I have a List which contains a list of objects and I want to remove from this list all the elements which have the same values in two of their attributes. I had though about doing something like this: List<Class1> myList; .... Set<Class1> mySet = new HashSet<Class1>(); mySet.addAll(myList); and overriding hash method in Class1 so it returns a number which depends only in the attributes I want to consider. The problem is that I need to do a different filtering in another part of the application so I can't override hash method in this way (I would need two different hash methods). What's the most efficient way of doing this filtering without overriding hash method? Thanks

    Hi. Iam developing a multithreading application using BackroundWorker. In the Do_Work method I call another method, in that method I add alot of data into a list using a while-statement. My goal is to add all the data that in the list to show in a GridView. How can I do that so every time data adds to the list, the gridview uppdates? Instead of waiting that the while-statement has runned finished. When the while-statment adds a value to the list, the value adds into the gridview?     I have the following java model class in AppEngine: public class Xyz ... { @Persistent private Set<Long> uvw; } When saving an object Xyz with an empty set uvw in Java, I get a "null" field (as listed in the appengine datastore viewer). When I try to load the same object in python (through remote_api), as defined by the following python model class: class Xys(db.Model): uvw = db.ListProperty(int) I get a "BadValueError: Property uvw is required". When saving another object of the same class in python with an empty uvw list, the datastore viewer print a "missing" field. Apparently empty lists storage handling differs between Java and python and lead to "incompatible" objects. Thus my question: Is there a way to, either: force Java to store an empty list as a "missing" field, force Python to gracefully accept a "null" list as an empty list when loading the object? Or any other suggestion on how to handle empty list field in both languages. Thanks for your answers!

  • Dreamweaver - template not recognising child files until they are opened

    Hi I've got a new section for a website which I have generated for a data source and it has markup for using a Dreamweaver template. When I add the new files and folders to the site , then update my template , it doesn't find the new files to update. If I open one of the new files , make a change in the template , then it recognises the new file is using the template. So it's almost like I have to touch all the files with Dreamweaver first. I've tried to open all the new files which need to use the template but then Dreamweaver CS4 crashes, I presume because of the number of files it's opening. Anyway, does anyone know if there is a way to make Dreamweaver recognise that a block of new files belong to the template , it doesn't seem to just work automatically Thanks Chris

    Hi all, In my project i have a asset list which contains "request to download" link. In the same list there is "download link" column which is default empty. Now when any user clicks on request to download link a workflow is activated and it will send request to approver to approve or reject the download request. If approver accept the request then the "download link" column in the asset list will be updated by some URL which redirect user to download page. Now what happen is, if user A send request to download asset to approver and approver approves it this will update respective item in asset list and put a download URL in "Download Link" column but if user B get look for the same record in asset list the download link will be visible to this user too which is wrong. I want to display download link columns value to only those user whos request has been approve. FYI: I am using WSS 3.0 Can anyone help me what should be the best approch to do this...?
