    I'm using Microsoft Office 2003. I have installed 'Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, Powerpoint 2007' to support new xml based formats (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx). Now given that I have installed Compatibility pack, can I create or open a Microsoft Excel 2007 file (.xlsx) having more than 256 columns in Excel 2003? If no, then how can I achieve the same. My observation: When I open a .xlsx file in Excel 2003 with compatibility, I can't see more than 256 columns (till Column IV).

  • Why are my Windows 7 updates continuously failing?

    I'm an advanced level user here with an odd issue. I have two Windows Updates that are failing to install, every single time. I'm getting a mysterious "Code 1" error on both updates, an error for which I'm having difficulty finding a solution. The updates in question are: Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538243) System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [May 2011] Because these updates are failing, the Shut Down button in my start menu always has the shield icon next to it, indicating that "new" updates will be installed on shut down. But, of course, they'll fail and when the PC is restarted, the shield icon is still there.     Hi, The background: I need to do some testing with Microsoft exchange server. Specifically, I'll be installing some software on the Microsoft exchange server machine and uninstalling that same software again. The problem I face: While I repeatedly do this with different versions of my software there is a chance that sometime later the Exchange server installation might get corrupted. When that happens I would need to reinstall Exchange server which I feel is somewhat of a chore. So what I am planning to do is to install the Ms Exchange server on a virtual machine in VMware ESX server and take a snapshot so that during my work whenever the installation is corrupted I can restore the snapshot. So here's my question: Would restoring the snapshot for the Microsoft Exchange server virtual machine work correctly? I'm not familiar with the intricacies of exchange server and any changes (if any) that happen with the Domain controller when we use or install an exchange server (Personally I don't think that should happen but just making sure). I have a shortage of time and hence decided to post this question here. Could someone please tell me whether restoring a snapshot for Exchange server would work fine? Thanks a load, Mugen

    In Windows 8 it seems natural to me that each person in a family has their own Microsoft Account with which they log in. If you pay for an app on the Windows Store, you can install that same app on several computers using the same Microsoft Account. Good. However, if several persons, in this case my children, each have their own account on the same computer, they do not get access to apps bought on a sibling's account, even if the app has been installed on the same computer. Bad. (Compare this to iOS where you are allowed have several iPhones with different iCloud-connected accounts but all using the same iTunes App Store account, which is perfect for a family where all can then use the same app which was bought just once) Is there any way to share apps between Microsoft Accounts (e.g. members of the same family)? Alternatively, is there a way to run apps that are installed on a computer when you are logged in with a Microsoft Account different than the one used when installing the app?

    In one of the offices, we have a 50-computers network, which had only one server machine: Windows 2003 Server Microsoft ISA Server Microsoft Exchange 2003 This server worked as a gateway (proxy server), mail server, file server, firewall and domain controller. It had two network interfaces, one for WAN (let's say 222.222.222.222) and one for LAN (192.168.1.1). I set up a Linux box to be the gateway (without a proxy), so the Linux box now has the following interfaces: 222.222.222.222 (our external IP, we removed it from the Windows machine) and 192.168.1.100 (internal IP), but we need to keep the old Windows server as a mail server and a proxy for some of our users, until we prepare another Linux machine for that, so I need the mail server on that machine to be available from the Internet. I set up iptables rules to redirect all the incoming connections on the 25th and 110th ports of our external IP to 192.168.1.1:25 and 192.168.1.1:110 and when I try to telnet our SMTP service telnet 222.222.222.222 25 I get the greetings from our windows server's (192.168.1.1) SMTP service, and that's works fine. But when I telnet POP3 service telnet 222.222.222.222 110 I only get the blank black screen and the connection seem to disappear if I press any button. I've checked the ISA rules - everything seems to be the same for 110th and 25th ports. When I telnet on 110th ports of our Windows server from our new gateway machine like this: telnet 192.168.1.1 110 I get the acces to it's POP3 service: +OK Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 POP3 server version 6.5.7638.1 (...) ready. What sould I do, to make the POP3 service available through our new gateway?

    I have the following code written by another developer on 2 pages of my site. This used to work just fine, but now is giving the error "Cannot convert lambda expression to type 'string' because it is not a delegate type" on the Delete line with Ajax.ThemeRollerActionLink. I don't go into this section of the site often, and we recently upgraded from MVC 1.0 to 2.0. I'm guessing that's probably when it stopped working. In different resources different kinds of regular expressions are defined. i also find javascript regular expressions but had some problems to adapt. First, these are the regular expressions i need for JAVA: at least one lower case letter at least one upper case letter at least one number at least three numbers at least one special character at least two special characters both letters and numbers both upper and lower case letters, numbers, and special characters My goal is not being a regular expression expert i just want to use the parts i need.If you direct me good tutorials which discusses above for java, will be appreciated.     I'm having some issues with a regular expression I'm creating. I need a regex to match against the following examples and then sub match on the first quoted string: Input strings ("Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.") ('Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. ') ('Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. ', 'arg1', "arg2") Must sub match Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Regex so far: \((["'])([^"']+)\1,?.*\) The regex does a sub match on the text between the first set of quotes and returns the sub match displayed above. This is almost working perfectly, but the problem I have is that if the quoted string contains quotes in the text the sub match stops at the first instance, see below: Failing input strings ("Lorem ipsum dolor \"sit\" amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.") Only sub matches: Lorem ipsum dolor ("Lorem ipsum dolor 'sit' amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.") The entire match fails. Notes The input strings are actually php code function calls. I'm writing a script that will scan .php source files for a specific function and grab the text from the first parameter.

    So I am trying to access a jquery soundmanager variable from one script (wpaudio.js – from the wp-audio plugin) inside of another (init.js – my own javascript). I am creating an alternate pause/play button higher up on the page and need to resume the current soundID, which is contained as part of a class name in the DOM. Here is the code that creates that class name in wpaudio.js: function wpaButtonCheck() { if (!this.playState || this.paused) jQuery('#' + this.sID + '_play').attr('src', wpa_url + '/wpa_play.png'); else jQuery('#' + this.sID + '_play').attr('src', wpa_url + '/wpa_pause.png'); } Here is the output: where wpa0 would be the sID of the sound I need. My current script in init.js is: $('.mixesSidebar #currentSong .playBtn').toggle(function() { soundManager.pauseAll(); $(this).addClass('paused'); }, function() { soundManager.resumeAll(); $(this).removeClass('paused'); }); I need to change resumeAll to "resume(this.sID)", but I need to somehow store the sID onclick and call it in the above function. Alternately, I think a regular expression that could get the class name of the current play button and either parse the string up to the "_play" or use a trim function to get rid of "_play"– but I'm not sure how to do this. I can make it look fine (and consistent) with by removing the - but then it's obviously just a dummy with no search - any ideas to fix the latter? I want the output array after the split() to be (I've removed the \n for readability): ["9:30 pm The user did action A.", "10:30 pm Welcome, user John Doe.", "***This is a comment", "11:30 am This is some more input." ]; My current regular expression is: var split = text.split(/\s*(?=(\b\d+:\d+|\*\*\*))/); This works, but there is one problem: the timestamps get repeated in extra elements. So I get: ["9:30", "9:30 pm The user did action A.", "10:30", "10:30 pm Welcome, user John Doe.", "***This is a comment", "11:30", "11:30 am This is some more input." ]; I cant split on the newlines \n because they aren't consistent, and sometimes there may be no newlines at all.   • Is 1/0 a legal Java expression?

    The following compiles fine in my Eclipse: final int j = 1/0; // compiles fine!!! // throws ArithmeticException: / by zero at run-time Java prevents many "dumb code" from even compiling in the first place (e.g. "Five" instanceof Number doesn't compile!), so the fact this didn't even generate as much as a warning was very surprising to me. The intrigue deepens when you consider the fact that constant expressions are allowed to be optimized at compile time: public class Div0 { public static void main(String[] args) { final int i = 2+3; final int j = 1/0; final int k = 9/2; } } Compiled in Eclipse, the above snippet generates the following bytecode (javap -c Div0) Compiled from "Div0.java" public class Div0 extends java.lang.Object{ public Div0(); Code: 0: aload_0 1: invokespecial #8; //Method java/lang/Object."<init>":()V 4: return public static void main(java.lang.String[]); Code: 0: iconst_5 1: istore_1 // "i = 5;" 2: iconst_1 3: iconst_0 4: idiv 5: istore_2 // "j = 1/0;" 6: iconst_4 7: istore_3 // "k = 4;" 8: return } As you can see, the i and k assignments are optimized as compile-time constants, but the division by 0 (which must've been detectable at compile-time) is simply compiled as is. javac 1.6.0_17 behaves even more strangely, compiling silently but excising the assignments to i and k completely out of the bytecode (probably because it determined that they're not used anywhere) but leaving the 1/0 intact (since removing it would cause an entirely different program semantics). So the questions are: Is 1/0 actually a legal Java expression that should compile anytime anywhere? What does JLS say about it? If this is legal, is there a good reason for it? What good could this possibly serve?
