  • OS X Terminal ends session at opening : permission denied

    I have an issue with Terminal on MacOS X 10.7.4. I know where it comes from, but I don't know how to solve it : Yesterday, I installed fish-shell as a shell replacement. Following the installation instructions, I ended typing the following command : chsh -s /usr/local/bin/fish I noticed I had to do a : sudo bash for it to work. Once done, I quit. Today, I try to run Terminal and I see te following message : Last login: Wed Jun 27 12:38:01 on ttys000 login: /usr/local/bin/fish: Permission denied [Opération terminée] (yes, I'm French, which explains my poor English). I cannot type any command since I have no access to the Terminal. I tried with iTerm2 but same issue. No command is set at launch in the default profile of Terminal/iTerm2 (well, in the UI). How can I take the power back ? Thank you.

  • Fastest browser to run over a forwarded X11 session

    So far I have tried Firefox (latest and greatest) and Chrome (also latest and greatest), and while Chrome runs faster than Firefox over X11 from my CentOS server to my Windows 7 workstation, it's still pretty sluggish. What other GUI browsers are available for Linux that would [likely] run faster than Chrome? I've not tried Opera 11, but have had many issues with it under Windows and Mac OS X directly, so am waiting for a new version before going that route.

  • "Error 53" with local LAN machines after VPN session on server

    I have a Windows 2000 server with a Windows 7 client that occasionally gets "error 53" when accessing the server by name (net view \\server). It still works by IP address (net view \\192.168.0.1). The server's primary IP address (as shown in "routing and remote access" as "Gigabit Ethernet" is 192.168.0.1. There is also a secondary IP address shown as "Internal" which is 192.168.0.50 The server also supports VPN. When a VPN user connects, it gets an address in the range of 192.168.0.51 to .59. Normally (when there is no error), when the local LAN client runs "ping server", it resolves to 192.168.0.1. When the Error 53 problem happens, "ping server" resolves to 192.168.0.50. This problem seems to be related to when a user connects or has recently connected to the server VPN. Is there some connection between the VPN services on the server and the DNS services on the server that could cause a local LAN client to become confused about which IP address to use for the server? Or is there a misconfiguration in the VPN or DNS?

  • How to show the "Home" folder for SSRS 2008 in SQL Management Studio

    I just installed SSRS 2008 on a development server and when I connect to it with SQL Management Studio I do not have all of the items in Object Explorer that I had with our SSRS 2005 installation. For example, we are missing the "Home" folder which lists all the reports. When we browse to our /ReportServer URL we can view and run our reports, so I know they are on the server. Does anyone know if this is a permissions issue or something else?

  • PuTTY inserts random characters during a session

    I recently started renting space on a remote server so that I could work on a project. I found that a relatively painless way to access it on a windows machine is through PuTTY. However, there is one thing that has always irked me when using it: for seemingly no reason random characters are sometimes inserted at the cursor. Most of the time it is just a single tilde, but rarely it spits out what looks like some escape sequence ([[^8 or the like). It will only occur when I am focused on the window, whether I am typing or 20 feet away from the keyboard. If left for long enough, it will spit tildes at random intervals (average is about 1 minute). Finally, this behavior seems to be inconsistant when running programs such as nano or the mysql interface: in nano, instead of inserting tildes, it will set marks (ctrl-^); in mysql, lines will become un-editable. My question is this: Has anyone else experienced this sort of behavior in PuTTY? And if so, what can be done to prevent/correct this behavior?

  • Limit display/session resolution for machines @ VDI environment on RDS 2012

    I have couple of windows 7 entprise virtual machines in collection as part of VDI environment - so users connecting to them through RDS 2012 web site. Is there any way to fix resolution of remote desktops, that user receives (instead of full screen all time) ? I've tried different group policies, but none of them are worked, probably because all those policies are for RDS sessions and not virtual desktops ... And i don't know how to limit resolution locally on win7 machine itself, so connecting users will receive fixed resolution.

    I want to connect to a remote host using telnet there is no username/password verification just telnet remotehost then I need to input some commands for initialization and then I need to repeat the following commands: cmd argument argument is read from a local file, in this file there are many lines, each line is a argument and after runing one "cmd argument", the remote host will output some results it may output a line with string "OK" or output many lines, one of which is with string "ERROR" and I need to do something according to the results. basically, the script is like: initialization_cmd #some initial comands while read line do cmd $line #here the remote host will output results, how can I put the results into a variable? # here I want to judge the results, like if $results contain "OK";then echo $line >>good_result_log else echo $line >> bad_result_log fi done < local_file the good_result_log and bad_result_log are local files is it possible or not? thanks!     I'm trying to speed up my PC, and I figured out that a full version of SQL Management Studio 2012 is installed including localhost server. I only need to connect to remote hosts, so running a local server by default should be disabled. Is there an easy way to disable certain parts so I can speed up my PC and booting time? Thanks in advance. I really have no clue what processes I can disable without ruining everything.

  • Using Quest AD cmdlets in an imported session

    We are trying to use remote Powershell on our Exchange system: $rs = New-PSSession -ConnectionUri <uri> -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -Authentication Basic -Credential <username> -AllowRedirection Import-PSSession $rs After these commands, we can run Exchange cmdlets and all is well. However, we're unable to run any Quest Active Directory cmdlets. Yes, Quest is installed on the remote (as well as our local machines), and yes we are able to run those commands when running Powershell locally on the server. I tried -AllowClobber, but that didn't have an effect. Is there a way to get access to QAD?

  • View numeric columns in hex - SQL Server Management Studio

    In SQL Server Management Studio, when I run a query which outputs a numeric column (int or similar types), they are displayed in decimal (example: 193). I want them to display in hex (example: 0xC1). How do I do that? I found many answers on how to write converter functions, but I don't want that - only change the display in SSMS. I only found this unanswered question. I use SQL2010, though may move to SQL2012 soon.

  • SSL Certificate only works when session active in Server 2008

    I have a web app that uses an installed certificate to send a web request to a 3rd party web service. This has worked for a long time on Windows Server 2003, but just recently we found a problem with it on 2008 installations. When logged into the server as the same user the App Pool uses, either locally or via remote desktop, the web app and it's secure 3rd party request works fine. However, when there are no user sessions open, the 3rd party request fails, as if the certificate were not attached to the web request. Any ideas?

  • Citrix and Remote Desktop session showing inconsistency after some time - Windows 2003 Server

    We have a lab server RDE becomes blank screen after sometime though it connects . When we login , it just shows the blank desktop with nothing visible , just the wallpaper . Citrix takes long time to connect and if it does ( it takes long time "checking credential " screen even ) , it will also show a similar blank screen . Can anyone suggest where/what to look for to trouble shoot this issue . Let me know if u want any further details . The lab works well and fine when we do a reboot and then the same problem happens after an hour or so ...

    Hi Guru's, I am setting Linux Hopping Station to another different servers. My current config to connect to another servers is using different port to connect. e.g ssh -D 1080 -p 22 [email protected] ssh -D 1081 -p 22 [email protected] Now what I would like to have to share the same port from the same box. ssh -D 1080 -p 22 [email protected] ssh -D 1080 -p 22 [email protected] But when I share it, I will get below error: bind: Address already in use channel_setup_fwd_listener: cannot listen to port: 1080 Could not request local forwarding. How could I configure the same port? help. thank you. I want to share the same port because this is needed when configuring firewall in Citrix Firewall on other machine, not needed to many many ports and keep changing when changing connection. thank you.

The setup utility in centos is too basic (doesn't seem to allow me to open up custom ports, just standard ones). Suggestions of a tool or utility to simply iptables management?     Hi, I'm looking for a description of the root of this error: "Transaction context in use by another session". I get it sometimes in one of my unittests so I can't provider repro code. But I wonder what is "by design" reason for the error. I've found this post: http://blogs.msdn.com/asiatech/archive/2009/08/10/system-transaction-may-fail-in-multiple-thread-environment.aspx and also that: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff649002.aspx But I can't understand what "Multiple threads sharing the same transaction in a transaction scope will cause the following exception: 'Transaction context in use by another session.' " means. All words are understandable but not the point. I actually can share a system transaction between threads. And there is even special mechanism for this - DependentTransaction class and Transaction.DependentClone method. I'm trying to reproduce a usecase from the first post: 1. Main thread creates DTC transaction, receives DependentTransaction (created using Transaction.Current.DependentClone on the main thread 2. Child thread 1 enlists in this DTC transaction by creating a transaction scope based on the dependent transaction (passed via constructor) 3. Child thread 1 opens a connection 4. I quickly searched online and reached to Microsoft documentations where it provides information of the how to install (restore) AdventureWorks for SQL Server 2011 for Denali. Download the AdventureWorks from here. Run following script (replace your path of mdf file.     Here is the question which I received the other day on SQLAuthority Facebook page. Social media is a wonderful thing and I love the active conversation between blog readers and myself – actually I think social media adds lots of human factor to any conversation. Here is the question - “I am using sqlcmd in SSMS – I am not sure how to declare variable and pass it, for example I have a database and it has table, how can I make the table variable dynamic and pass different value everytime?” Fantastic question, and here is its very simple answer. First of all, enable sqlcmd mode in SQL Server Management Studio as described in following image. Now in query editor type following SQL. :SETVAR DatabaseName “AdventureWorks2012″ :SETVAR SchemaName “Person” :SETVAR TableName “EmailAddress“ USE $(DatabaseName); SELECT * FROM $(SchemaName).$(TableName); Note that I have set the value of the database, schema and table as a sqlcmd variable and I am executing the query using the same parameters. Well, that was it, sqlcmd is a very simple language to master and it also aids in doing various tasks easily.
