• Virtual Box start from dual boot systme

  So for a long time now, I've been running Linux on a dual boot system with Windows 7. I don't run Windows very often, however it happens enough now that I started looking at alternatives to reboots. A friend showed me Parallels on his Mac, and I fell in love with the concept of Virtual machines. Since Sun has been in the Unix space since the beginning of time, they likely have the best solution for Linux (big assumption I know). Anyway, to avoid re-installing windows, as I have it set up the way I like it now, I was wondering if there was a way to point to the existing install and boot from that point. Linux is installed on /dev/sda Windows is on /dev/sdb Having never done this before a little handholding would be great as to what step I should take. Thanks for any help in advance!

• Static assembly initialization

  I'm attempting to develop an Interceptor framework (in C#) where I can simply implement some interfaces, and through the use of some static initialization, register all my Interceptors with a common Dispatcher to be invoked at a later time. The problem lies in the fact that my Interceptor implementations are never actually referenced by my application so the static constructors never get called, and as a result, the Interceptors are never registered. If possible, I would like to keep all references to my Interceptor libraries out of my application, as this is my way of (hopefully) enforcing loose coupling across different modules. Hopefully this makes some sense. Let me know if there's anything I can clarify... Does anyone have any ideas, or perhaps a better way to go about implementing my Interceptor pattern? TIA, Jeremy

  I am currently building my own CMS for various reasons that could take a long to explain... However i am looking for a dynamic solution to create templates for pages within the CMS and all areas must be editable via the administration area, maybe large text areas broken into multiple areas, text and image area on a page etc. Following on from the above i would like to create the following: Create a new page (selecting a pre-defined template like below) http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/9872/nestedpages.png and then upon editing the page it would have created as many text editors required for each editable region or a file upload control for an image area for example. i am thinking of using nested masterpages for the design elements, just unsure the best-practice way to achieve the above (db structure etc) I somehow hope this provides enough information but are happy to answer any questions you may have. • Multiple System.Web.Extensions assembly in same project?

  Hi, I'm having trouble moving a website from one server to another. It seems to be a problem loading multiple versions of System.Web.Extensions. The code uses version 3.5 in most places but a third party control appears to be needing version 1.0.6. I didn't think this was possible but it appears to be working in it's current situation. Is there a way I can use the GAC version of System.Web.Extensions for the site but import a dll of version 1.0.6 just for these controls?

• Setting a mapped drive in Virtual hosts causes apache to not start

  I´m trying to set a virtual host on my windows 7 machine. The folder I want to point to is located on a centOS machine and the folder path is Z:\Websites\Online\MyClient\Site. But something strange happens when I set the document root like this: DocumentRoot "Z:\Websites\Online\MyClient\Site" Apache do not restarts after that. When I take a look at the log, there is an error pointing to that line, where I added the path to the folder: Syntax error on line 48 of C:/Program Files/Zend/Apache2/conf/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf: DocumentRoot must be a directory. There must be a way to make it work like this, by setting an Apache Installation on a machine and pointing it to a folder located on another computer, right? My hosts file is set like this: 172.17.10.1\Data\Websites\Online\MyClient\Site MyClient.local ANY HELP would be VERY appreciated.

• Referencing a different project in the same assembly, different namespaces

  I have two projects : Menu and Module and they are both in the same namespace foobar. I am currently referencing the module project from the Menu project to open up certain controls on a tab control in my menu. However I need to launch a new control from one of my controls which is located in the Module project. When I try referencing the menu project, it does not show up in my intellisense when I try to reference it with a using. Am I doing something wrong logically here? • Operations on 64bit words in 32bit system

  I'm new here same as I'm new with assembly. I hope that you can help me to start. I'm using 32bit (i686) Ubuntu to make programs in assembly, using gcc compiler. I know that general-purpose-registers are 32bit (4 bytes) max, but what when I have to operate on 64 bit numbers? Intel's instruction says that higher bits are stored in %edx and lower in %eax Great... So how can I do something with this 2-registers number? I have to convert 64bit dec to bin, then save it to memory and show on the screen. How to make the 64bit quadword at start of the program in .data section?

  I have a Verizon Galaxy Nexus 32GB. I've installed AOKP on it and it has been running pretty okay with no bugs etc... But after I connected it too my Nintendo Wii I think it mounted sdcard as FAT32 itself :\ I'm receiving the following error when trying to download something from 4Shared sync app(But actually none can download or transfer anything to Virtual sdcard): XXXXX.apk: open failed: EACCES(Permission denied) I already restored my old backup wiped all data etc, nothing seems to work.   I'm trying to bring a C++ library into C#, so naturally I am trying to make a C++/CLI project. In visual studio I created a new project (Visual C++ project, class library). There's a .dll.intermediate.manifest file, but no .dll. So wut I did wrong?

• Debian virtual server hangs on reboot, need help debugging

  I'm admin of a Debian 6 virtual server. I've been trying to diagnose this problem for a while but haven't gotten anything. The server hangs every time I want to reboot it. All services seem to be shutting down, I lose ssh connection. Then nothing. I have to restart it through the hoster's web-interface, which just gives me the options "Normal Boot" and "Rescue System". Normal boot then brings the server back to life. Possibly (probably?) related, the server does not boot into a newer kernel version, it's running 2.6.18 right now, but installed is actually 2.6.32. I don't know whether it hangs on shutdown or on startup, but booting through the web-interface works (except the kernel part). Am I missing something obvious? Where should I start looking? I have no idea how to diagnose the problem.

• Flash Builder 4 "includeIn" property causing design view error

  I am creating a custom TextInput component that will define an "error" state. I have extended the TextInput class to change the state to "error" if the errorString property's length is greater than 0. In the skin class, I have defined an "error" state, and added some logic to detect the size and position of the error icon. However, if I have this code at the same time I use the "includeIn" property in the bitmap image tag, I get a design view error. If I either A) Only include that code with no "includeIn" property set, it works or B) dont include the code to set the icon size and position and only use the "includeIn" property, it works. Any ideas what could be causing the design view problem when I use both the "includeIn" property and the icon size/position code at the same time?   I need to organize a virtual network for practice with Windows Server 2008 and several workstations with Windows OS. To make it all I only have a laptop with Dual-Core 2.10Ghz, 3 GB RAM, 50 GB free space and Windows 7 on it. Also I have external USB 3.0 hard-drive with 250GB free space and flash disk with 8GB space. What can you suggest? Because I have limited resources, I think to install ESXi 5.1 on the main disk of my laptop as second OS, with installed Windows 7. I have no idea will it work or not, but after that I want to try to create hosts using availible space on external hard-drive. Is it possible?

• Generic SQL builder .NET

  I'm looking for a way to write an SQL statement in C# targeting different providers. A typical example of SQL statements differentiating is the LIMIT in PostgreSQL vs. TOP in MSSQL. Is the only way to solve SQL-syntax like the two above to write if-statements depending on which provider the user selects or using try catch statements as flow control (LIMIT didn't work, I'll try TOP instead)? I've seen the LINQ Take method, but I'm wondering if one can do this without LINQ? In other words, does C# have some generic SQL Provider class that I have failed to find that can be used?

• Learning Java Swing (GUI builder or not?)

  Well I know basic Java and wanted to learn Swing so of course looked at the Sun website first, where this tutorial is. I was going to start it but realised it relied heavily on NetBeans, which I'm not sure about. I'm not sure because it's learning that I want to acheive, not a nice looking program. So I thought using NetBeans like this would be great once I know it, but I don't want to be building things without a clue what's going on underneath, and of course this could also cause problems later. My first question is is this the right way to do it, should I try not to rely on an IDE heavily? Looking through questions on the site most people recommend using the Sun tutorial, and I've only seen one answer that agrees with what I'm thinking, and they linked to this resource which looks promising. Or perhaps I'm getting the wrong idea of the Sun tutorial, perhaps it doesn't rely on the IDE, it just seemed like that. My second question is, if you agree with me, what resources (apart from the one above) would you recommend? Thanks for your answers.

• Flex SDK missing fundamental things

  All of a sudden Flash Builder 4 is missing all kinds of fundamental things and is generating incorrect errors. I've had the same issue yesterday, where I fixed it by downloading a new Flex SDK and importing that into FB. I did this again, but this time it fixed nothing. I don't think it's something I did, like removing critical references from the build path. The errors also appeared on projects I was not working on at the time. It occurs for ActionScript, Flex and Flex Library projects alike. Update 3: Well, i've singled the problem down to a single piece of code, though a very simple one. I can make a new workspace in FB and things work ok, then screw the workspace up forever by adding this code to a project. All projects will have errors and closing or even removing the faulty project does not change this. Making another new workspace (without the faulty code) makes my projects compile again. It appears to be an SDK problem, not Flash Builder. • Windows 7 XP Mode disable time sync

  So I've tried the trick from Virtual PC 2007, adding the following section to the vmc configuration file: <components> <host_time_sync> <enabled type="boolean">false</enabled> </host_time_sync> </components> Later someone suggested VPC doesn't want the components level so added this instead: <host_time_sync> <enabled type="boolean">false</enabled> <frequency type="integer">15</frequency> <threshold type="integer">10</threshold> </host_time_sync> When I start up XP Mode (Microsoft Virtual PC) it completely ignores any of these two configuration changes and if I change the clock it's instantly reset to the host time again. I've also obviously disabled the Windows Time service but as it's not joined to a domain or set up with a source it shouldn't be involved anyway. I need to test an application over a few midnight passes and thought the XP Mode machine would be perfect, so I didn't have to mess with my workstation clock... is there any way to get the VPC guest to not sync time with the host? This is easy in Hyper-V ;p

• VMware Workstation update stopped autofit guest working

  VMware one day offered an update (8.0.1 build-528992 my current version) from 8.0. I accepted it, because updates usually fix problems. However not in this case... Previously it worked very well. Now, it still "works" but the one glitch I'm getting makes it too hard to deal with. This screenshot will explain my problem: As you can see, my virtual PC is not resizing correctly. (This happens with any operating system), autofit guest just doesn't work - it only results in things like this happening. Thanks to the tools it becomes very hard to NOT autofit guest. I've tried uninstalling 8.0.1 completely and installing 8.0 again but with the same results. I don't really understand what the new update has done to VMware Workstation or to my virtual machines. I do believe this isn't VMware Workstation's direct fault but from VMware Tools, which would explain why going back to 8.0 didn't work since VMware tools has its own updates. How can I fix this? The host is running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
