• c++ Mixing printf, cout with wprintf, wcout

  I know you should not mix printing with printf,cout and wprintf,wcout, but have a hard time finding a good answer why and if it is possible to get round it. The problem is I use a external library that prints with printf and my own uses wcout. If I do a simple example it works fine, but from my full application it simply does not print the printf statements. If this is really a limitation, then there would be many libraries out there which can not work together with wide printing applications. Any insight on this is more than welcome.

  I have two colluections List<Application> myApps; List<Application> yourApps; These lists have overlapping overlapping data but they are coming from different sources and each source has some missing field data. Application object has a property called Description Both collections have a unique field called Key i want to see if there is a LINQ solution to: Loop through all applications in myApps and look at the key and see if that existing in yourApps. If it does, i want to take the description property from that application in yourApps and set the description property on the application on myApps to that same value i wanted to see if there was any slick way using lambda expressions (instead of having to have loops and a number of if statements.)

  I am working on an enterprise level product that is designed around SQL Server Express and specifically its features (views, concurrent users, stored procedures, CASE and IF statements). Though we don't use any advanced SQL Server features, the database size limit of 4GB in the Express edition may up being a limitation. A work-around is that customers can move to more full-featured versions of SQL Server. The problem is that SQL Server Express deployment is not easy, and the installer size is huge. This is a major drawback for someone looking to try our product. You don't want end-users to not buy a product because the download is huge. Does anyone have any recommendations of a database that has a smaller footprint but all the features of Express and which can be migrated to express?

• Running sql scripts against an attached database?

  I've got an MDF attached to an instance of Sql Server 2008 Express, and I need to run some sql scripts against it to generate tables, indexes, etc. But I can't figure out how to get this to work. If I load the scripts in Visual Studio, it only allows me to connect to the server and run it against a database. I can't choose a different provider (Microsoft Sql Server Database File), so I can't select my MDF. This leaves me the only option of running the script as individual queries, but that won't work as it appears it doesn't support TSQL CREATE statements. How can I run my sql script against an attached database?

  Here is the question Is "missing semicolon" error really required? why not treat it as a warning? Why I am asking this stupid question? When I compile this code int f = 1 int h=2; the compiler intelligently tells me that where I am missing it. but to me its like - "If you know it, just treat it as if its there and go ahead. (Later I can fix the warning) int sdf = 1,df=2; sdf=1 df =2 even for this code it behaves the same. i.e even if multiple statements (without ;) are in the same line, the compiler knows. So, why not just remove this requirement? why not behave like python,vb etc

  hello. I am using gcc on linux to compile C++ code. There are some exceptions which should not be handled and should close program. However, I would like to be able to display exception string: For example: throw std::runtime_error(" message"); does not display message, only type of error. I would like to display messages as well. Is there way to do it? it is a library, I really do not want to put catch statements and let library user decide. However, right now library user is fortran, which does not allow to handle exceptions. in principle, I can put handlers in wrapper code, but rather not to if there is a way around Thanks

  I wrote my layout entirely in java code because it was just more convenient. (I had a lot of textViews and using for statements were more convenient). However, my TextViews require the day of the week and in portrait mode, I would like to cut the day of the week to a short form. For example, I want "Sunday" to show "Sun" for portrait mode, but "Sunday" for landscape mode. I understand how to do this in XML files, but how do I do it in code? • What is XML good for and when should i be using it?

  I'm curious, I've been developing pretty powerful websites/web apps, and I've never learnt XML, even odder I've never really felt the need to. It's not like Curl or Prepared Statements where before knowing what they did and how they worked I had a feeling 'there's got to be an easier way to do this!' or 'there's got to be something designed for this!'. Currently I work with MySQL and JSON and I don't have this feeling of 'I need to learn that' (XML), this must be wrong! I'm really interested to hear some compelling arguments for XML, and learn about things which it can do beter than JSON or MySQL (or some other aspect of web dev) and when i should be using it!

• Amazon SimpleDB - Is there a way to list all Attributes in a Domain?

  Hi, I'm using C# and the AWSSDK library form Amazon to test a few things in SimpleDB. All going well so far. However, I am trying to come up with a neat way of retrieving all Attributes that are applicable to a Domain. This is proving to be tricky without having to retrieve an Item, and obviously I can get the list of attributes then. But what if I have 100,000 Items in a Domain. Let's say the first 70,000 Items in a "Person" Domain have: FirstName, LastName, Address And then I hit a Item that has FirstName, LastName, Address, Phone And then I hit another Item around the 80,000 mark which has: FirstName, LastName, Email, Phone In the above example, for the Person Domain, how would I get a list that contains: FirstName, LastName, Address, Email, Phone ...without performing a ridiculous number of select statements?   I have a stored procedure that I'm using to populate a table with about 60 columns. I have genereated 1000 exec statements that look like this: exec PopulateCVCSTAdvancement 174, 213, 1, 0, 7365 exec PopulateCVCSTAdvancement 174, 214, 1, 0, 7365 exec PopulateCVCSTAdvancement 175, 213, 0, 0, 7365 Each time the stored procedure will be inserting anywhere from 1 to 3,000 records (usually around 2,000 records). The "server" is running desktop hardware with 4 gigs of available memory on a server OS. The problem I have is that after the first 10-15 executes of an average of 1-2 seconds each time, the next 10-15 seem to never finish. Am I doing this correctly? How should I do this? Thanks! • Can MySQL automatically specify `_utf8` for inserts to UTF-8 columns?

  I have a table like this, where one column is latin1, the other is UTF-8: Create Table: CREATE TABLE `names` ( `name_english` varchar(255) character NOT NULL, `name_chinese` varchar(255) character set utf8 default NULL, ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 When I do an insert, I have to type _utf8 before values being inserted into UTF-8 columns: insert into names (name_english = "hooey", name_chinese = _utf8 "??"); However, since MySQL should know that name_chinese is a UTF-8 column, it should be able to know to use _utf8 automatically. Is there any way to tell MySQL to use _utf8 automatically, so when I'm programatically making prepared statements, I don't have to worry about including it with the right parameters?

  Righto, firstly magic quotes & runtime are disabled correctly in php.ini, and confirmed by phpinfo(). PHP version: 5.3.4 MySQL version: 5.1.52 I'm only use mysql_real_escape_string on the data, after htmlspecialchars and a trim, that's all the data cleaning on the variable. Yet, when I submit a single quote, the slash remains in the database. When running mysql_query I'm using "' . $var . '", although in the past this hasn't changed anything (could be due to the double quotes?). Any ideas? and please don't tell me about PDO/prepared statements, I'm aware of them and I have my reasons for doing it this way. Thanks!

• How do I "step over" jQuery code while debugging?

  While stepping through a script that uses jQuery, I just want to test the code I wrote. I don't want to step into the jQuery file -- I'm not debugging jQuery, just my own file. Are there any ways to tell a debugger to not step into the jQuery file? I use Visual Studio + Internet Explorer, as well as Firefox + Firebug for stepping through code ... and both seem to love to step through dozens of jQuery statements. For example, say I have a script like this: $("div").each(function() { $(this).hide(); }); I would like to press "step into" and not see the implementation of ".each()" etc... In C#, this is possible by using the [DebuggerStepThrough()] attribute on a class. But that doesn't help with JavaScript.

• MySql Union not getting executed in a view

  Hi, I am trying to create a view for a UNION of 2 select statements that I have created. The UNION is working fine when executed individually But the problem is only the 1st part of the UNION is getting executed when I am executing it as a view.   I want to write an update query in MS Access 2003. I have a field called product_code. If product code is (between 110 and 752) OR (between 910 and 1124), I want to update product code=15. If product code is (between 1210 and 1213) OR (1310 and 1423) I want to assign product code=16. If product code is some other value I will assign 18, and so on I don't think I can use CASE statement for this since I have many values to be updated.
