  • Optimized Image Loading in a UIScrollView

    - by Michael Gaylord
    I have a UIScrollView that has a set of images loaded side-by-side inside it. You can see an example of my app here: http://www.42restaurants.com. My problem comes in with memory usage. I want to lazy load the images as they are about to appear on the screen and unload images that aren't on screen. As you can see in the code I work out at a minimum which image I need to load and then assign the loading portion to an NSOperation and place it on an NSOperationQueue. Everything works great apart from a jerky scrolling experience. I don't know if anyone has any ideas as to how I can make this even more optimized, so that the loading time of each image is minimized or so that the scrolling is less jerky. - (void)scrollViewDidScroll:(UIScrollView *)scrollView{ [self manageThumbs]; } - (void) manageThumbs{ int centerIndex = [self centerThumbIndex]; if(lastCenterIndex == centerIndex){ return; } if(centerIndex >= totalThumbs){ return; } NSRange unloadRange; NSRange loadRange; int totalChange = lastCenterIndex - centerIndex; if(totalChange > 0){ //scrolling backwards loadRange.length = fabsf(totalChange); loadRange.location = centerIndex - 5; unloadRange.length = fabsf(totalChange); unloadRange.location = centerIndex + 6; }else if(totalChange < 0){ //scrolling forwards unloadRange.length = fabsf(totalChange); unloadRange.location = centerIndex - 6; loadRange.length = fabsf(totalChange); loadRange.location = centerIndex + 5; } [self unloadImages:unloadRange]; [self loadImages:loadRange]; lastCenterIndex = centerIndex; return; } - (void) unloadImages:(NSRange)range{ UIScrollView *scrollView = (UIScrollView *)[[self.view subviews] objectAtIndex:0]; for(int i = 0; i < range.length && range.location + i < [scrollView.subviews count]; i++){ UIView *subview = [scrollView.subviews objectAtIndex:(range.location + i)]; if(subview != nil && [subview isKindOfClass:[ThumbnailView class]]){ ThumbnailView *thumbView = (ThumbnailView *)subview; if(thumbView.loaded){ UnloadImageOperation *unloadOperation = [[UnloadImageOperation alloc] initWithOperableImage:thumbView]; [queue addOperation:unloadOperation]; [unloadOperation release]; } } } } - (void) loadImages:(NSRange)range{ UIScrollView *scrollView = (UIScrollView *)[[self.view subviews] objectAtIndex:0]; for(int i = 0; i < range.length && range.location + i < [scrollView.subviews count]; i++){ UIView *subview = [scrollView.subviews objectAtIndex:(range.location + i)]; if(subview != nil && [subview isKindOfClass:[ThumbnailView class]]){ ThumbnailView *thumbView = (ThumbnailView *)subview; if(!thumbView.loaded){ LoadImageOperation *loadOperation = [[LoadImageOperation alloc] initWithOperableImage:thumbView]; [queue addOperation:loadOperation]; [loadOperation release]; } } } } EDIT: Thanks for the really great responses. Here is my NSOperation code and ThumbnailView code. I tried a couple of things over the weekend but I only managed to improve performance by suspending the operation queue during scrolling and resuming it when scrolling is finished. Here are my code snippets: //In the init method queue = [[NSOperationQueue alloc] init]; [queue setMaxConcurrentOperationCount:4]; //In the thumbnail view the loadImage and unloadImage methods - (void) loadImage{ if(!loaded){ NSString *filename = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%03d-cover-front", recipe.identifier, recipe.identifier]; NSString *directory = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"RestaurantContent/%03d", recipe.identifier]; NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:filename ofType:@"png" inDirectory:directory]; UIImage *image = [UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:path]; imageView = [[ImageView alloc] initWithImage:image andFrame:CGRectMake(0.0f, 0.0f, 176.0f, 262.0f)]; [self addSubview:imageView]; [self sendSubviewToBack:imageView]; [imageView release]; loaded = YES; } } - (void) unloadImage{ if(loaded){ [imageView removeFromSuperview]; imageView = nil; loaded = NO; } } Then my load and unload operations: - (id) initWithOperableImage:(id<OperableImage>) anOperableImage{ self = [super init]; if (self != nil) { self.image = anOperableImage; } return self; } //This is the main method in the load image operation - (void)main { [image loadImage]; } //This is the main method in the unload image operation - (void)main { [image unloadImage]; }

  • Autofac WCF integration + sessions

    - by Michael Sagalovich
I am having an ASP.NET MVC 3 application that collaborates with a WCF service, which is hosted using Autofac host factory. Here are some code samples: .svc file: <%@ ServiceHost Language="C#" Debug="true" Service="MyNamespace.IMyContract, MyAssembly" Factory="Autofac.Integration.Wcf.AutofacServiceHostFactory, Autofac.Integration.Wcf" %> Global.asax of the WCF service project: protected void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) { ContainerBuilder builder = new ContainerBuilder(); //Here I perform all registrations, including implementation of IMyContract AutofacServiceHostFactory.Container = builder.Build(); } Client proxy class constructor (MVC side): ContainerBuilder builder = new ContainerBuilder(); builder.Register(c => new ChannelFactory<IMyContract>( new BasicHttpBinding(), new EndpointAddress(Settings.Default.Url_MyService))) .SingleInstance(); builder.Register(c => c.Resolve<ChannelFactory<IMyContract>>().CreateChannel()) .UseWcfSafeRelease(); _container = builder.Build(); This works fine until I want WCF service to allow or require sessions ([ServiceContract(SessionMode = SessionMode.Allowed)], or [ServiceContract(SessionMode = SessionMode.Required)]) and to share one session with the MVC side. I changed the binding to WSHttpBinding on the MVC side, but I am having different exceptions depending on how I tune it. I also tried changing AutofacServiceHostFactory to AutofacWebServiceHostFactory, with no result. I am not using config file as I am mainly experimenting, not developing real-life application, but I need to study the case. But if you think I can achieve what I need only with config files, then OK, I'll use them. I will provide exception details for each combination of settings if required, I'm omitting them not to make the post too large. Any ideas on what I can do?

  • How to hide close button in wpf window?

    - by Michael Hedgpeth
I'm writing a modal dialog in wpf. How do I set a wpf window to not have a close button? I'd still like for its WindowState to have a normal title bar. I found ResizeMode, WindowState, and WindowStyle, but none of those properties allow me to hide the close button but show the title bar, as in modal dialogs.

  • Jquery.get() not returning any data

    - by David Waters
Hi I am trying to scrape other people web pages (for the forces of good not evil). I am currently trying to do this with javascript/jquery from with in a browser. I am finding that the no data is returned from the jquery.get() success call back function. My code. $.get('http://www.google.co.uk/', function (data, textStatus, XMLHttpRequest){ alert("status " + textStatus); alert('data:' + data); window.data=data; window.textStatus=textStatus; window.httpReq = XMLHttpRequest}); In my mind this should simply do a get on google store the data in window.data and we are all good. What happens is we get textStatus == success and data == "". the status on the XMLHttpRequest is 4(success). I have looked at the network traffic using a transparent proxy (Charles) and everything looks find there http status 200 plenty of data being returned. I am running this just from the Firebug console in Firefox. Any ideas?

  • Common vulnerabilities for WinForms applications

    - by David Stratton
I'm not sure if this is on-topic or not here, but it's so specific to .NET WinForms that I believe it makes more sense here than at the Security stackexchange site. (Also, it's related strictly to secure coding, and I think it's as on-topic as any question asking about common website vulnerabiitles that I see all over the site.) For years, our team has been doing threat modeling on Website projects. Part of our template includes the OWASP Top 10 plus other well-known vulnerabilities, so that when we're doing threat modeling, we always make sure that we have a documented process to addressing each of those common vulnerabilities. Example: SQL Injection (Owasp A-1) Standard Practice Use Stored Parameterized Procedures where feasible for access to data where possible Use Parameterized Queries if Stored Procedures are not feasible. (Using a 3rd party DB that we can't modify) Escape single quotes only when the above options are not feasible Database permissions must be designed with least-privilege principle By default, users/groups have no access While developing, document the access needed to each object (Table/View/Stored Procedure) and the business need for access. [snip] At any rate, we used the OWASP Top 10 as the starting point for commonly known vulnerabilities specific to websites. (Finally to the question) On rare occasions, we develop WinForms or Windows Service applications when a web app doesn't meet the needs. I'm wondering if there is an equivalent list of commonly known security vulnerabilities for WinForms apps. Off the top of my head, I can think of a few.... SQL Injection is still a concern Buffer Overflow is normally prevented by the CLR, but is more possible if using non-managed code mixed in with managed code .NET code can be decompiled, so storing sensitive info in code, as opposed to encrypted in the app.config... Is there such a list, or even several versions of such a list, from which we can borrow to create our own? If so, where can I find it? I haven't been able to find it, but if there is one, it would be a great help to us, and also other WinForms developers.

  • Linq to SQL and concurrency with Rob Conery repository pattern

    - by David Hall
I have implemented a DAL using Rob Conery's spin on the repository pattern (from the MVC Storefront project) where I map database objects to domain objects using Linq and use Linq to SQL to actually get the data. This is all working wonderfully giving me the full control over the shape of my domain objects that I want, but I have hit a problem with concurrency that I thought I'd ask about here. I have concurrency working but the solution feels like it might be wrong (just one of those gitchy feelings). The basic pattern is: private MyDataContext _datacontext private Table _tasks; public Repository(MyDataContext datacontext) { _dataContext = datacontext; } public void GetTasks() { _tasks = from t in _dataContext.Tasks; return from t in _tasks select new Domain.Task { Name = t.Name, Id = t.TaskId, Description = t.Description }; } public void SaveTask(Domain.Task task) { Task dbTask = null; // Logic for new tasks omitted... dbTask = (from t in _tasks where t.TaskId == task.Id select t).SingleOrDefault(); dbTask.Description = task.Description, dbTask.Name = task.Name, _dataContext.SubmitChanges(); } So with that implementation I've lost concurrency tracking because of the mapping to the domain task. I get it back by storing the private Table which is my datacontext list of tasks at the time of getting the original task. I then update the tasks from this stored Table and save what I've updated This is working - I get change conflict exceptions raised when there are concurrency violations, just as I want. However, it just screams to me that I've missed a trick. Is there a better way of doing this? I've looked at the .Attach method on the datacontext but that appears to require storing the original version in a similar way to what I'm already doing. I also know that I could avoid all this by doing away with the domain objects and letting the Linq to SQL generated objects all the way up my stack - but I dislike that just as much as I dislike the way I'm handling concurrency.

  • TFS and shared projects in multiple solutions

    - by David Stratton
Our .NET team works on projects for our company that fall into distinct categories. Some are internal web apps, some are external (publicly facing) web apps, we also have internal Windows applications for our corporate office users, and Windows Forms apps for our retail locations (stores). Of course, because we hate code reuse, we have a ton of code that is shared among the different applications. Currently we're using SVN as our source control, and we've got our repository laid out like this: - = folder, | = Visual Studio Solution -SVN - Internet | Ourcompany.com | Oursecondcompany.com - Intranet | UniformOrdering website | MessageCenter website - Shared | ErrorLoggingModule | RegularExpressionGenerator | Anti-Xss | OrgChartModule etc... So.. The OurCompany.com solution in the Internet folder would have a website project, and it would also include the ErrorLoggingModule, RegularExpressionGenerator, and Anti-Xss projects from the shared directory. Similarly, our UniformOrdering website solution would have each of these projects included in the solution as well. We prefer to have a project reference to a .dll reference because, first of all, if we need to add or fix a function in the ErrorLoggingModule while working on the OurCompany.com website, it's right there. Also, this allows us to build each solution and see if changes to shared code break any other applications. This should work well on a build server as well if I'm correct. In SVN, there is no problem with this. SVN and Visual Studio aren't tied together in the way TFS's source control is. We never figured out how to work this type of structure in TFS when we were using it, because in TFS, the TFS project was always tied to a Visual Studio Solution. The Source Code repository was a child of the TFS Project, so if we wanted to do this, we had to duplicate the Shared code in each TFS project's source code repository. As my co-worker put it, this "breaks every known best practice about code reuse and simplicity". It was enough of a deal breaker for us that we switched to SVN. Now, however, we're faced with truly fixing our development processes, and the Application Lifecycle Management of TFS is pretty close to exactly what we want, and how we want to work. Our one sticking point is the shared code issue. We're evaluating other commercial and open source solutions, but since we're already paying for TFS with our MSDN Subscriptions, and TFS is pretty much exactly what we want, we'd REALLY like to find a way around this issue. Has anybody else faced this and come up with a solution? If you've seen an article or posting on this that you can share with me, that would help as well. As always, I'm open to answers like "You're looking at it all wrong, bonehead, HERE'S the way it SHOULD be done.

  • C#: Accessing a Dictionary.Keys Key through a numeric index

    - by Michael Stum
I'm using a Dictionary<string, int> where the int is a count of the key. Now, I need to access the last-inserted Key inside the Dictionary, but i do not know the name of it. The obvious attempt: int LastCount = mydict[mydict.keys[mydict.keys.Count]]; does not work, because Dictionary.Keys does not implement a []-indexer. I just wonder if there is any similar class? I thought about using a Stack, but that only stores a string. I could now create my own struct and then use a Stack<MyStruct>, but I wonder if there is another alternative, essentially a Dictionary that implements an []-indexer on the Keys?

  • Ext.data.Store, Javascript Arrays and Ext.grid.ColumnModel

    - by Michael Wales
    I am using Ext.data.Store to call a PHP script which returns a JSON response with some metadata about fields that will be used in a query (unique name, table, field, and user-friendly title). I then loop through each of the Ext.data.Record objects, placing the data I need into an array (this_column), push that array onto the end of another array (columns), and eventually pass this to an Ext.grid.ColumnModel object. The problem I am having is - no matter which query I am testing against (I have a number of them, varying in size and complexity), the columns array always works as expected up to columns[15]. At columns[16], all indexes from that point and previous are filled with the value of columns[15]. This behavior continues until the loop reaches the end of the Ext.data.Store object, when the entire arrays consists of the same value. Here's some code: columns = []; this_column = []; var MetaData = Ext.data.Record.create([ {name: 'id'}, {name: 'table'}, {name: 'field'}, {name: 'title'} ]); // Query the server for metadata for the query we're about to run metaDataStore = new Ext.data.Store({ autoLoad: true, reader: new Ext.data.JsonReader({ totalProperty: 'results', root: 'fields', id: 'id' }, MetaData), proxy: new Ext.data.HttpProxy({ url: 'index.php/' + type + '/' + slug }), listeners: { 'load': function () { metaDataStore.each(function(r) { this_column['id'] = r.data['id']; this_column['header'] = r.data['title']; this_column['sortable'] = true; this_column['dataIndex'] = r.data['table'] + '.' + r.data['field']; // This display valid information, through the entire process console.info(this_column['id'] + ' : ' + this_column['header'] + ' : ' + this_column['sortable'] + ' : ' + this_column['dataIndex']); columns.push(this_column); }); // This goes nuts at columns[15] console.info(columns); gridColModel = new Ext.grid.ColumnModel({ columns: columns });

  • UIImagePickerController weirdness ...

    - by John Michael Zorko
Hello, all ... UIImagePickerController is easy to use, but i'm all of a sudden finding it exasperating when I didn't find it so before. What's happening is that sometimes the imagePickerController:didFinishPickingImage:editingInfo delegate method does not seem to work -- the image will not show in the UIImageView even after the assignment was made. Sometimes it will, sometimes not, and furthermore, every single bit of example code i've tried (from the web, from the "Beginning iPhone 3 Development" book, etc.) exhibits the same problem. I'm at a loss as to why, and the problem happens on both my iPhone 3G as well as my 3GS, so I doubt that it's a hardware issue. These devices are running OS 3.1.2. The view controller is loaded from a xib file that contains one button and the UIImageView. I'd really like someone to tell me what stupid thing i'm obviously doing wrong :-) Here is the code -- i've tried to make the smallest app I could that exhibits the problem: #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> @interface imagepickerViewController : UIViewController <UINavigationControllerDelegate, UIImagePickerControllerDelegate> { IBOutlet UIButton *button; IBOutlet UIImageView *imageView; } @property (nonatomic, retain) UIImageView *imageView; - (IBAction)takepic; - (void)usePic:(UIImage *)pic; @end #import "imagepickerViewController.h" @implementation imagepickerViewController @synthesize imageView; - (IBAction)takepic { if ([UIImagePickerController isSourceTypeAvailable:UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypeCamera]) { UIImagePickerController *picker = [[UIImagePickerController alloc] init]; picker.sourceType = UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypeCamera; picker.delegate = self; [self presentModalViewController:picker animated:YES]; [picker release]; } } - (void)imagePickerController:(UIImagePickerController *)picker didFinishPickingImage:(UIImage *)image editingInfo:(NSDictionary *)info { [self usePic:image]; [picker dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; // after this method returns, the UIImageView should show the image -- yet very often it does not ... } - (void)imagePickerControllerDidCancel:(UIImagePickerController *)picker { [picker dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; } - (void)usePic:(UIImage *)picture { imageView.image = picture; } @end

  • WCF ResponseFormat For WebGet

Is it possible to write my own web message format? I would like that when client calls foo() method he gets raw string - without json or xml wrappers.

  • "Instance variable 'xxx' accessed in class method....why?

    - by Michael Levy
So please forgive me as I am very new to stackoverflow and to ios programming in general. I am attempting to change the text of a button i have, replacing current text with a date string (dateStringForInput) I am passing in from another class. The button is called myTodayButton and is declared in my .h file for my class inputMilesViewController... @property (strong, nonatomic) IBOutlet UIButton *myTodayButton; Below is the code from my .m. +(void) changeButtonText:(NSString*) dateStringForInput{ NSLog(@"we got to changebuttontext"); [_myTodayButton setTitle:dateStringForInput forState:UIControlStateNormal]; } I am getting the following error "Instance variable "_myTodayButton" accessed in class method. I understand that this is written in a class method rather than an instance method but i cant figure out how to get this change to happen. the button which prompts this call to changeButtonText is in the other class which is creating dateStringForInput. please help! thanks so much! be gentle with me....a bit overwhelmed . :-)

  • Getting real-time market/stock quotes in C#/Java

    - by David Menard
Hey, I would like to make an program that acts like a big filter for stocks. To do so, I need to have real-time (or delayed) quotes from the market. I started getting stock quotes by requesting pages from yahoo, accordingand parsing the html to the ticker, and parsing the html. I was wondering how to do this requesting and parsing html. Is there some way I can request only the stock quotes and its info? I know some applications do this, and I am very curious how they do it, because requesting web pages and parsing them is very time-consuming. Thanks, Dave

I thought maybe it needs to be wrapped in a FolderId object: Folder parentFolder = Folder.Bind(exchangeService, new FolderId(parentFolderId)); Same issue. I've been searching for a while, and have found some suggestions about Base64/UTF8 conversion, but again that did not solve the problem. Anyone know how to bind to a folder with a given unique id?

  • css nth-child(2n+1) repaint css after filtering out list items

    - by Michael
I have a list of 20+ items. The background-color changes using the :nth-child(2n+1) selector. (ie. even item black, odd item white). When I click a button to filter out specific items using the jQuery Isotope plugin it adds a .isotope-hidden class to the items I want to filter out, which changes the position of the list item to 0,0 and opacity to 0. When this happens the remaining items are left with the original black/white background-colors, which are now no longer in order. Does anyone know a way to "repaint' the css using the :nth-child(2n+1) selector on the items that do not contain the .isotope-hidden class. I tried #element tr:not(.isotope-hidden):nth-child(2n+1) with no avail. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

  • What makes a good software developer? [closed]

    - by David Johnstone
Previously there have been questions on what makes a good team lead and what makes a good programming team, but I can't find any questions on what makes a good programmer. I believe the answer to this question is especially important in the context of hiring. Hiring the best people you can afford only works when you are able to identify who the best people are. Being able to consistently identify the best people is only possible when you know what makes the best people the best people. The easy answer is "smart and gets things done" (see "Done, and Gets Things Smart" for an interesting response). But surely there is more to being a good software developer than this aphorism. So, what makes a good software developer a good software developer? (Note: For the purposes of this question, I'm not interested in how to actually tell if somebody is a good software developer.)

  • php, curl , php curl , multipart/form-data , upload picture redirect

    - by Michael
I'm trying to upload some pictures using php cURL on a classified ad website .I think that I set all the parameters properly but I see that there is a kind of redirect after I post the picture . The issue is that the url where I'm getting redirected gives 404 error instead to return the html that it does when I make the post with a normal browser . here is the php code that I have so far " $URL = "http://api.classistatic.com/api/image/upload"; $s = "PAD001"; $v = "2"; $n = "k"; $a = "1:a126581b8150ddc1337cabce28f2feb53849fd143bd6e42649f90175c0e023e3"; $u = "@/var/www/html/artwork/tmp/!BszBLV!EGk~$(KGrHqEOKicEvMi8HVg(BL5ZbWvs0g~~_1.JPG"; $htmlContent = $baseClass-processPicturerequest($URL, $s, $v, $b, $n, $a, $u); The log from server is as following : http://pastebin.com/gZqPgsFX

  • XNA Alpha Blending to make part of a texture transparent

    - by David
What I am trying to do is use alpha blending in XNA to make part of a drawn texture transparent. So for instance, I clear the screen to some color, lets say Blue. Then I draw a texture that is red. Finally I draw a texture that is just a radial gradient from completely transparent in the center to completely black at the edge. What I want is the Red texture drawn earlier to be transparent in the same places as the radial gradient texture. So you should be able to see the blue back ground through the red texture. I thought that this would work. GraphicsDevice.Clear(Color.CornflowerBlue); spriteBatch.Begin(SpriteBlendMode.None); spriteBatch.Draw(bg, new Vector2(0, 0), Color.White); spriteBatch.End(); spriteBatch.Begin(SpriteBlendMode.None); GraphicsDevice.RenderState.AlphaBlendEnable = true; GraphicsDevice.RenderState.AlphaSourceBlend = Blend. One; GraphicsDevice.RenderState.AlphaDestinationBlend = Blend.Zero; GraphicsDevice.RenderState.SourceBlend = Blend.Zero; GraphicsDevice.RenderState.DestinationBlend = Blend. One; GraphicsDevice.RenderState.BlendFunction = BlendFunction.Add; spriteBatch.Draw(circle, new Vector2(0, 0), Color.White); spriteBatch.End(); GraphicsDevice.RenderState.AlphaBlendEnable = false; But it just seems to ignore all my RenderState settings. I also tried setting the SpriteBlendMode to AlphaBlend. It blends the textures, but that is not the effect I want. Any help would be appreciated.

  • WatiN or Selenium?

    - by David Thomas Garcia
I'm going to start building some automated tests of our presentation soon. It seems that everyone recommends WatiN and Selenium. Which do you prefer for automated testing of ASP.NET web forms? Why did that product work better for you? As a side note, I noticed that WatiN 2.0 has been in CTP since March 2008, is that something to be concerned about?
