  • How can i get more than one jpg. or txt file from any folder?

  • Platform Builder: Cloning – the Linker is your Friend

    I was tasked this week with making a minor change to NetMsgBox() behavior. NetMsgBox() is a little function in NETUI that handles MessageBox() for the Network User Interface.  The obvious solution is to clone the entire NETUI directory from Public\Common\Oak\Drivers (see Platform Builder: Clone Public Code for more on cloning). If you haven’t already, take a minute to look in that folder. There are a lot of files in the folder, but I only needed to modify one function in one of those files. There must be a better way. Enter the linker. Instead of cloning the entire folder, here is what I did: Create a new folder in my Platform named NETUI (but the name isn’t important) Copy the C file that I needed to modify to the new folder, in this case netui.c Copy a makefile from one of the other folder (really they are all the same) Run Sysgen_capture Open a build window (see Platform Builder: Build Tools, Opening a Build Window) Change directories to the new folder Run “Sysgen_capture netui” Rename sources.netui to sources Add the C file to sources as SOURCES=netui.c Modify the code Build the code Done That is it, the functions from my new folder now replace the functions from the Public code and link with the rest to create NETUI.dll.   • Customize your icons in Windows 7 and Vista

    Want to change out the icons on your desktop and more?  Personalizing your icons is a great way to make your PC uniquely yours,, and today we show you how to grab unique icons, and default Winnows. to be your own. Change the icon for Computer, Recycle Bin, Network, and your User folder Right-click on the desktop, and select Personalize. Now, click the “Change desktop icons” link on the left sidebar in the Personalization window. The window looks slightly different in Windows Vista, but the link is the same. Select the icon you wish to change, and click the Change Icon button.  In Windows 7, you will also notice a box to choose whether or not to allow themes to change icons, and you can uncheck it if you don’t want themes to change your icon settings. You can select one of the other included icons, or click browse to find the icon you want.  Click Ok when you are finished. Change Folder icons You can easily change the icon on most folders in Windows Vista and 7.  Simply right-click on the folder and select properties. Click the Customize tab, and then click the Change Icon button.  This will open the standard dialog to change your icon, so proceed as normal. This basically just creates a hidden desktop.ini file in the folder containing the following or similar data: [.ShellClassInfo]IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dllIconIndex=20 You could manually create or edit the file if you choose, instead of using the dialogs. Simply create a new text file named desktop.ini with this same information, or edit the existing one.  Change the IconFile line to the location of your icon. If you are pointing to a .ico file you should change the IconIndex line to 0 instead. Note that this isn’t available for all folders, for instance you can’t use this to change the icon for the Windows folder.   In Windows 7, please note that you cannot change the icon of folder inside a library.  So if you are browsing your Documents library and would like to change an icon in that folder, right-click on it and select Open folder location.  Now you can change the icon as above. And if you would like to change a Library’s icon itself, then check out this tutorial: Change Your Windows 7 Library Icons the Easy Way Change the icon of any file type Want to make you files easier to tell apart?  Check out our tutorial on how to simply do this: Change a File Type’s Icon in Windows 7 Change the icon of any Application Shortcut To change the icon of a shortcut on your desktop, start menu, or in Explorer, simply right-click on the icon and select Properties. In the Shortcut tab, click the Change Icon button. Now choose one of the other available icons or click browse to find the icon you want. Change Icons of Running Programs in the Windows 7 taskbar If your computer is running Windows 7, you can customize the icon of any program running in the taskbar!  This only works on applications that are running but not pinned to the taskbar, so if you want to customize a pinned icon you may want to unpin it before customizing it.  But the interesting thing about this trick is that it can customize any icon anything running in the taskbar, including things like Control Panel! Right-click or click and push up to open the jumplist on the icon, and then right-click on the program’s name and select Properties.  Here we are customizing Control Panel, but you can do this on any application icon. Now, click Change Icon as usual. Select an icon you want (We switched the Control Panel icon to the Security Shield), or click Browse to find another icon.  Click Ok when finished, and then close the application window. The next time you open the program (or Control Panel in our example), you will notice your new icon on its taskbar icon. Please note that this only works on applications that are currently running and are not pinned to the taskbar.  Strangely, if the application is pinned to the taskbar, you can still click Properties and change the icon, but the change will not show up. Change the icon on any Drive on your Computer You can easily change the icon on your internal hard drives and portable drives with the free Drive Icon Changer application.  Simply download and unzip the file (link below), and then run the application as administrator by right-clicking on the icon and selecting “Run as administrator”. Now, select the drive that you want to change the icon of, and select your desired icon file. Click Save, and Drive Icon Changer will let you know that the icon has been changed successfully. You will then need to reboot your computer to complete the changes.  Simply click Yes to reboot. Now, our Drive icon is changed from this default image: to a Laptop icon we chose! You can do this to any drive in your computer, or to removable drives such as USB flash drives.  When you change these drives icons, the new icon will appear on any computer you insert the drive into.  Also, if you wish to remove the icon change, simply run the Drive Icon Changer again and remove the icon path. Download Drive Icon Changer This application actually simply creates or edits a hidden Autorun.inf file on the top of your drive.  You can edit or create the file yourself by hand if you’d like; simply include the following information in the file, and save it in the top directory of your drive: [autorun]ICON=[path of your icon] Remove Arrow from shortcut icons Many people don’t like the arrow on the shortcut icon, and there are two easy ways to do this. If you’re running the 32 bit version of Windows Vista or 7, simply use the Vista Shortcut Overlay Remover.   • How can I keep a folder synchronized to an external USB hard drive in Ubuntu?

    I have a growing music collection which I manually keep in sync with an external USB drive. Sometimes I edit their ID3 tags, add or delete a file in either the hard drive or the USB drive, and I would like to keep those changes synchronized between both. Does Ubuntu has something available that would help me with this scenario? Preferably something easy to use with a UI. Update: To clarify my question, changes may happen on both the local hard drive or the USB drive, so the sync process must be on both directions.

  • Finding a backup and synchronization solution

    I'm having difficulties to find a backup and synchronization solution with the following characteristics: Cross-platform: Windows, Linux, Mac Offsite backup (so Internet Backup) Data deduplication Transfer only new/modified bits of modified files Secure: Data encrypted before leaving computer Maintain multiple versions of files (even deleted files) Folder synchronization integrated with backup and across multiple computers connected to the internet (not necessarily in the same LAN) I think that the Folder Sync feature needs a better explanation. The use case is this: you have a desktop pc and a laptop. The desktop pc contains a folder with some files and this folder is part of the backup (so it was selected to be backed up). The laptop does not contain that folder or that files at all. Then you're abroad with your laptop and you need that folder. So you want to be able to open the backup program, select that folder from the backup and download it in your laptop mantaining it synchronized with the backed up version. When you then come back home and switch on your desktop pc you want the folder we're talking about to be updated in the desktop PC. Does anyone knows any service with all these features? I've only found SpiderOak to support all the features I've mentioned but I'm not completely satisfied by the time taken to complete a backup. Sometimes it seems to hang for minutes with no reasons at all and folder synchronization occurs only after all files are backed up (instead folder sync should have a separated queue independent from other backup operations and synchronization should occurs frequently... for example every 5 minutes or less, independently from the frequency of normal backup operations)

  • What Is the Keyboard Shortcut for Moving to Last Message in Mac OS X Mail.app?

    I'm on Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard). In Mail, I have the first message in my Inbox selected and I'm trying to navigate to the last message using my keyboard. In Thunderbird, I just hit the End key, which for me is "Function-right arrow" because I'm on a MacBook Pro. In Mail, with the first message selected, if I hit "Function-right arrow" (i.e. End), the scroll bar moves down, allowing me to see the messages at the bottom of the list, but the first message at the top of the list is still selected. What I want is for the last message to be selected. I've tried lots of key combinations and searched for the answer but haven't been able to find it. Please help. I posted this originally at discussions.apple.com but the only advice I received was to file a bug with Apple, which I did.

  • How can I change the default location of content directories (eg Pictures, Templates, Music) in my home folder?

    I have multiple users on my home desktop. I am content with most of the default user directories, however I would like to make one change. I would like to setup a common directory for Music (ie /home/common/Music/) that is writable to all users and Nautilus/Dolphin/whatever recognizes as the user's Music directory. I know that it would involve changing the xdg user directory setup, but everything I see points that it is relative to the user's $HOME. Is there a way I can specify an absolute path?

  • Virtualbox shared folder mount from fstab fails; works once bootup is complete

    I've got Ubuntu 13.10 installed in Virtualbox 4.3. The host machine is Windows. I have a couple of Virtualbox shared folders being mounted by /etc/fstab. Until recently this setup worked just fine, but after upgrading from Ubuntu 13.04 and Virtualbox 4.2 (at essentially the same time) the fstab mounting stopped working. I get the following error during boot: An error occurred while mounting /home/benme/Documents. keys:Press S to skip mounting or M for manual recovery Pressing M for manual recovery and then trying to mount manually also fails: root@benme-vb:~# cd /home/benme root@benme-vb:/home/benme# mount Documents /sbin/mount.vboxsf: mounting failed with the error: No such device But if I instead skip mounting during boot, wait for Unity to start and then mount manually in a shell, everything works fine: benme-vb ~ % ls Documents benme-vb ~ % sudo mount Documents [sudo] password for benme: benme-vb ~ % ls Documents # actual file list omitted Note that when I mount manually I'm letting mount take all the options from /etc/fstab, and it works. This suggests to me that it's some sort of timing issue, where Virtualbox isn't "ready" to provide the shared file mounts at the point /etc/fstab mounts are run during bootup. Here's the fstab line, just for completeness: Documents /home/benme/Documents vboxsf uid=benme,gid=benme,dmode=774,fmode=664 0 0 Is there something I can do about this from the Ubuntu side? Or does anyone happen to know more about this from the Virtualbox angle? I've found an old report on the Virtualbox bug-tracker with identical symptoms, but in that case the user had updated Virtualbox without updating their guest additions and resolving that fixed the problem; this isn't happening here, I've definitely got the 4.3 guest additions installed.

Let me give an example - When I want to add an image to an article on my blog, I click "Browse" button in the image uploader, and then upload the image to the blog. The problem is, when I want to upload another image to my blog, I want the browser to look into the same directory; but it's always takes me to the "Recently Used" directory. Is there a way to change this? I hope I have made myself clear enough. EDIT: I only use Chrome, so I am referring to it.

  • How could I change the colour of the menu font in Lubuntu?

    I use Lubuntu 12.04 and I have become obsessed with the looks of it! There is a type of themes that I especially want to use (flat, light), all related to the Elegant brit theme. On my desktop it looks like: As I want to replace the dominating orange with blue, I would prefer even more the theme Elegant Brit re-Revisited The problem is that both of them have a problem with my system tray, a white background appears: A theme that is almost identical to the orange one, but has no problem with the system tray is called Elegant Blackle. I have tried to use this one and replaced the gtk2 folder in its main folder with the gtk2 folder from Elegant Brit re-Revisited. The result is an improvement for me, as I have eliminated a part of the orange stuff with a decent blue :). The orange now appears only with the gtk3 apps, which is rather amusing. Migrating also the gtk3 folder from the blue to the orange theme would bring the sys tray problem too: it is something related to that gtk3 folder. But this is another matter. Now I have something very close to what I want. But I especially would like to have a feature that was present in the Elegant Blackle theme and now is gone as its gtk2 folder was replaced by that of the blue theme: the black font of the menus, instead of the blueish ones. Could anyone instruct me what is to be changed in the gtk2 folder of the Elegant Brit re-Revisited theme so as to make the menus look like this (like they do in Elegant Blackle with its original gtk2 folder): and not like this? : (on my display this blue is more whitish). An alternative and ideal solution would be knowing how to edit the Elegant Brit re-Revisited theme so as to remove the systray problem or, maybe easier, to edit the orange colour of Elegant Blackle theme to as to be completely replaced by the blue of the other one.

    Since my first UUCP operation in UNIX to deliver and receive an email, I have always been challenged to find the ultimate email organizer. About a year ago, I switched to a very simple process of managing email and have found the ultimate in organization. On the craziest of days with 250+ emails, I keep my inbox empty. Here is how I do it; First, start with the following folders in your mailbox; Inbox    Archive    FollowUp    Hold Of course, all inbound emails will start in the Inbox. As you work throughout the day, follow these steps to keep your inbox empty; Read the email. Are you responsible for any action? If you are and can do it immediately, then do it. If you need to do it later, move the email to the “FollowUp” folder If you are not responsible for any action, move it to the archive folder. Use Outlook’s search to find them when you need them. If you will need to reference the email later in the week or for a short term (week or two), then move the email to the “Hold” folder As your day progresses, frequently review the FollowUp folder and accomplish the task *Notes: If I am waiting for someone to do something for me, I keep it in the FollowUp folder. As I review the folder, I am constantly reminded that there is something I am waiting on – and can send a simple reminder by forwarding the original email. I sometimes send myself a “todo” email and park it in the FollowUp folder I like to know how many emails are in the folders so I set the “Show total number of items” property on the folder to show the amount of emails.

  • Can a folder on a NAS be made available as a physical drive in VMWare?

    We are currently in the process of moving from a single web server to two load balanced web servers and are facing some challenges we don't quite know how to fix. One of these is that the current single server hosts applications that write stuff to disk. The applications running on the server expects that when something is written to disk it later will in fact exist, so it's important that this premise is fulfilled with the dual server architecture as well. The dual server setup is a couple of VMWare instances with Windows Server 2008 R2 as the guest operating system. Out of the box, these instances does not share any kind of file system, so just moving the applications over would make them break since one instance would write something to the file system that doesn't exist on the other. Thus we need to share a file system between the two virtual servers. Our host has proposed to create a network share on a SAN and map this share individually on each virtual machine. This doesn't work too well due to NTFS permissions, etc., because the share needs to be accessed by several independent web applications that won't even be in the same application pool. The only solution that kind of works is to hard code an "identity" for each web application into its web.config file, but this means password in clear text which doesn't sit well with me. Since the servers are virtual, I'm thinknig: Wouldn't it be possible to make a NAS area available as a physical disk in the gues operating system somehow? Since VMWare has full control of the virtual hardware, you'd think it would be able to "fake" a local hard drive in the virtual machine that in reality is a folder on a NAS, but so far I haven't found anything that states how and if this is possible. So I have to ask the wonderful Server Fault community: Can a folder on a NAS be made available as a physical drive (typical D:) in both of the virtual machines?

  • How to convert a .pdf file into a folder of images?

    I have some .pdf files that I would like to convert to my preferred reading format of .cbr or .cbz or, if this isn't directly possible, I need to extract all pages from the .pdf as images and then compress them into my format of choice. I have only been able to save pages one at a time with Document Viewer. Obviously, I'd like to do it a little quicker. I have tried pdfsam, pdf shuffler, and pdfmod all with no luck. I am using Ubuntu 11.10.

  • Where do Outlook folders go when moved?

    I have an account with external user mailboxes opened and accidentally I have moved a folder and now I can't find it anywhere. Action: I clicked on a folder and dragged it into another one. Result: Can't find the moved folder anywhere The above picture is the folders I currently have from my Outlook 2010 (via Exchange 2010), under an AD Network. Where can I (me, having admin rights over the network) retrieve that missing folder again? Attempts: The original and the one folder I need was accidentally moved, but I have created a poi folder and tried the same way, and I got the same result... the folder went missing. I also tried to reboot the client machine and access the same mailbox from OWA ... no luck on both attempts :( Any ideas on how I can retrieve the missing folder and its emails again?

  • Index a low-cost NAS on Windows 7

    Has anyone found a way to index the files stored on a Networked Attached Storage on Windows 7 so that the files can be available in Windows Search and Libraries? I am referring to the cheap and available NAS like the Western Digital My Book series that use an embedded linux server. Similar question: http://windows7forums.com/windows-7-networking/6700-indexing-nas-drive-libraries.html EDIT Windows help proposes to make the files stored on the NAS available offline. This is obviously not a good solution if the NAS has more data than what the client can store. If the folder is on a network device that is not part of your homegroup, it can be included as long as the content of the folder is indexed. If the folder is already indexed on the device where it is stored, you should be able to include it directly in the library. If the network folder is not indexed, an easy way to index it is to make the folder available offline. This will create offline versions of the files in the folder, and add these files to the index on your computer. Once you make a folder available offline, you can include it in a library. When you make a network folder available offline, copies of all the files in that folder will be stored on your computer's hard disk. Take this into consideration if the network folder contains a large number of files.

    I use the GMall 'Call phone' feature a lot, and the numeric keyboard pad works great for entering conference codes, but most conference call services want you "Enter your conference code followed by the 'hash' or 'pound' sign. So I end up typing the 10 digit conference code using the keyboard but then I have to use my mouse to push the # or hash sign. Is their a way to push the # with the keyboard?

To keep it simple, we created some shortcuts for our customers which they just need to click in order to get everything running. The question here is: How can we pin those shortcuts or batch files to the taskbar? (The customers aren't supposed to access the file system and that's why they can only see the taskbar)

    I've been Googleing for a few hours on how to just compress a file inside a directory and I can't find anything. I found how to just compress a folder in general. Now I wish to know how I can compress a folder in a folder with a file. Current code: 7zG.exe a -tzip "test.zip" dontcompressme/compressme/new.txt pause As you can see above, I don't want to compress the first folder, but only the second and what ever is within that folder. I have the 7zG.exe sitting in the main folder and I have some files that are three folders in, but I don't know how to only compress those. Here is my directory list: Folder One (don't compress) Folder Two (don't compress) Folder Three (okay to compress) Document One.txt (okay to compress) Document Two.txt (okay to compress) Index.html (okay to compress) Does anyone know how I can do this in the most simplest way ever invented by man? Cause whenever I go to a website using Google it goes throw all these methods on how to compress a folder, but not do it the way I wish it to do. It makes me kinda upset cause I can't get a simple and straight forward answer. Thank you if you answer my question.

  • How can I configure Samba to share (read/write) any folder with root permissions?

    I have a CentOS 5 VirtualBox guest on a Win7x64 host. I am attempting to setup a read/write share a directory owned by root with my Windows host using Samba, but I'm having no luck after running around in circles. To simplify matters, I've disabled my Firewall (/etc/init.d/iptables stop). As security and permissions are irrelevant for this purpose, I'd rather not have to set up another unix user/group/password. Here is the output from testparm Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf rlimit_max: rlimit_max (1024) below minimum Windows limit (16384) Processing section "[Guest Share]" Loaded services file OK. Server role: ROLE_STANDALONE and the source of /etc/samba/smb.conf: [global] workgroup = WRKGRP netbios name = SMBSERVER security = SHARE load printers = No [Guest Share] comment = Guest access share path = /root/src read only = No guest ok = Yes Running /etc/init.d/smb restart shows an OK status. However, on my Windows host, I can only see the share folder on the guest \\IPv4, but I cannot go into "Guest Share": "The network name cannot be found" error message is a common error, with a likely cause: The user you are trying to access the share with does not have sufficient permissions to access the path for the share. Both read (r) and access (x) should be possible. Am I trying to use root as a passwordless Samba guest? I'd like to, is it possible? How can I configure Samba to share (read/write) any folder with root permissions?
