  • Representation of a DateTime as the local to remote user

    Hello! I was confused in the problem of time zones. I am writing a web application that will contain some news with dates of publication, and I want the client to see the date of publication of the news in the form of corresponding local time. However, I do not know in which time zone the client is located. I have three questions. I have to ask just in case: does DateTimeOffset.UtcNow always returns the correct UTC date and time, regardless of whether the server is dependent on daylight savings time? For example, if the first time I get the value of this property for two minutes before daylight savings time (or before the transition from daylight saving time back) and the second time in 2 minutes after the transfer, whether the value of properties in all cases differ by only 4 minutes? Or here require any further logic? (Question #1) Please see the following example and tell me what you think. I posted the news on the site. I assume that DateTimeOffset.UtcNow takes into account the time zone of the server and the daylight savings time, and so I immediately get the correct UTC server time when pressing the button "Submit". I write this value to a MS SQL database in the field of type datetime2(0). Then the user opens a page with news and no matter how long after publication. This may occur even after many years. I did not ask him to enter his time zone. Instead, I get the offset of his current local time from UTC using the javascript function following way: function GetUserTimezoneOffset() { var offset = new Date().getTimezoneOffset(); return offset; } Next I make the calculation of the date and time of publication, which will show the user: public static DateTime Get_Publication_Date_In_User_Local_DateTime( DateTime Publication_Utc_Date_Time_From_DataBase, int User_Time_Zone_Offset_Returned_by_Javascript) { int userTimezoneOffset = User_Time_Zone_Offset_Returned_by_Javascript; // For // example Javascript returns a value equal to -300, which means the // current user's time differs from UTC to 300 minutes.     I am having a weird experience. I am dynamically creating a row of textboxes at runtime when the user clicks a button. However, on my local machine the text boxes appear correctly (example [TextBox1] [TextBox2] [TextBox3] [TextBox4] [TextBox5] [TextBox1] [TextBox2] [TextBox3] [TextBox4] [TextBox5] [TextBox1] [TextBox2] [TextBox3] [TextBox4] [TextBox5] When I run this app on the production, the output side-by-side is: [TextBox1][TextBox1] [TextBox2][TextBox2] [TextBox3][TextBox3] [TextBox4][TextBox4] The output should be one row of textboxes, then a second row of 5 text boxes Anyone experience this?

    Not sure if it's possible but how do I read a resource from a url using javascript without ajax? for example, the following url is a static text file containing json encoded text http://mysite.s3.amazonaws.com/jsonencodedcontent.txt I'd like to use javascript to read the content from above link, read the json content into a javascript variable. I can't use ajax because of cross site and I have no control over amazon S3 domain. anyway to achieve this?

  • Communicate progress from local Service

    An application I'm building uses a local Service for downloading files from the web to the phone's SD card. In this app users can browse lists of books, and read them while online. A user can also download a pdf copy of a book for offline viewing. To handle downloads I'm using a locally bound Service. I do not want this Service to run all the time, only when downloading files. So that the Service can shut itself down when its tasks are complete, I am not binding to the service, rather I'm sending an "enqueue for download" command through the Intent passed to Context.startService. Books available for download are shown in a list. A user can choose to download a book by clicking on its row in the list. On download, I need to show download progress using a ProgressBar on the actual book list row. I need to also show, on the rows, if a book is enqueued for download, or if its download has completed or failed. The books can be shown in different activities throughout the application--in search, or in the user's list of favorite books, for example. When the books are shown in different places, these are not the same objects, but they are uniquely identified by their bookId. Because I do not want to bind to the service from every Activity, my tentative plan was to use a public static final HashMap on the Service class itself to contain a mapping of bookId to download status, an enum of enqueued, downloading, cancelled, etc. Each book view, when displayed, would check this static HashMap, and if the bookId is in the map, retrieve and display its status. I don't particularly like this idea, but at the moment it's the only way I can think of to retrieve status from the Service without having to bind to it and start it. Additionally I need to retrieve download progress percent from the Service, for a given bookId, if it is the active download. Again I'd rather not bind to the service from every activity, so I'm not sure how to go about retrieving current progress from the Service. My current plan is to use some sort of singleton mediator, that the Service will push updates to, and the views can read from. But I'm not terribly happy with this idea. The reason I'd like to avoid binding to the Service from each Activity is 1.) I'm already running another Service and 2.) binding is verbose and I'd like to avoid needing to pass around a reference to the Service (but admittedly this isn't too much of a problem). Perhaps binding to the local Service isn't expensive enough to warrant this other setup? Should I not be concerned about binding to it from each Activity? Maybe this is a non-issue?

  • Identifying if a user is in the local administrators group

    My Problem I'm using PInvoked Windows API functions to verify if a user is part of the local administrators group. I'm utilizing GetCurrentProcess, OpenProcessToken, GetTokenInformationand LookupAccountSid to verify if the user is a local admin. GetTokenInformation returns a TOKEN_GROUPS struct with an array of SID_AND_ATTRIBUTES structs. I iterate over the collection and compare the user names returned by LookupAccountSid. My problem is that, locally (or more generally on our in-house domain), this works as expected. The builtin\Administrators is located within the group membership of the current process token and my method returns true. On another domain of another developer the function returns false. The LookupAccountSid functions properly for the first 2 iterations of the TOKEN_GROUPS struct, returning None and Everyone, and then craps out complaining that "A Parameter is incorrect." What would cause only two groups to work correctly? The TOKEN_GROUPS struct indicates that there are 14 groups. I'm assuming it's the SID that is invalid. Everything that I have PInvoked I have taken from an example on the PInvoke website. The only difference is that with the LookupAccountSid I have changed the Sid parameter from a byte[] to a IntPtr because SID_AND_ATTRIBUTESis also defined with an IntPtr. Is this ok since LookupAccountSid is defined with a PSID?     I'm trying to compile a program called hiQlab on OSX 10.8 g++ -g -O2 -I`echo /Users/.../Documents/hiQlab/hiqlab-2006-07-20/tools/`/lua/include -I`echo /Users/.../Documents/hiQlab/hiqlab-2006-07-20/tools/`/tolua++/include -c cscmatrix.cc cscmatrix.cc:13:12: fatal error: 'umfpack.h' file not found #include "umfpack.h" but I just installed SuiteSparse through macports which includes umfpack and umfpack.h is in fact present in default directory /opt/local/include/ do I need to add the path or something?     Hi There, I am struggling alot with some PHP I am needing to implement a next and previous link, basically I have a search function on my site, that returns multiple results and click on a result navigates to that results page, I want to then be able to click next on that page, and be taken to the next result in the sequence that was returned by the users original search?
