• Asp.net control inside of fancybox modal is not "working"

  Your typical "It doesn't work" freak out going on over here. Any direction would help. I have a login control on my master page and I'm trying to only display it using jquery fancybox and then redirect the user once they are logged in. But any buttons or controls that should do "something" when pressed when I put inside the fancy box are not responding. If I keep the div visible and then use the control not using fancybox I get the expected result. What are my options?

• PHP / javascript live chat using too much bandwidth

  So I am learning about javascript, so I am making a live chat system with PHP and javascript. I have it so the javascript refreshes the log (each message gets logged in a file on the server), and it refreshes every second. Im using firebug to monitor the resource usage, and I see under the net tab each times its updated, and the bytes add up really fast. I know I can change it to update less, but is there a way that when a user on the other end I'm talking to, when the send a message, it gets sent to the server, then an alert gets sent to me saying that the chatlog needs to update somehow. That way it only updates when the log is updated. let me know, thanks

• What are the best security measures to take for making certain directories private?

  I have a directory on my server that I do not want Search Engines to crawl and I already set this rule in robots.txt I do want people that have logged in to be able to have access to this directory without having to enter a password or anything. I am thinking that a cookie is the best thing to put on users computers after they login, and if they have a cookie, they can access the directory. Is this possible, or is there a better way? I want people without this cookie to not have access to this directory - access for members only Any suggestions on the best design for this?

• Silverlight - Timeout Issue

  Hello, I have a Silverlight 3 application that is querying a large dataset. This query is taking over one minute. After approx. one minute into the attempt, an error is getting logged into the event viewer that says: "Membership credential verification failed" Oddly queries that are taking shorter than 1 minute are running successfully. Because of this, I do not believe it is a "credential" issue, unless somehow it is expiring. But how do I set the expiration? I have no idea what else this could be. Thank you,

• Problem with Wicket and SignInExample in IE8

  I have an interesting problem with Wicket. I'm basically duplicating the 'authentication' example from the v1.4.x in SVN. It works fine in FireFox and Chrome but not in IE8. When in IE8, after I click the submit button it returns with a 404 error but i can manually paste the "destination" url in and it goes there fine (as an authenticated user). Another scenario is, I try to login, it gives me a 404, I hit refresh (looking at the html source I see the page version incremented), relogin and it works fine. So to summarize: I login the first time in IE8 and it returns a 404 error, hit refresh and ogin again and it works fine. I login the first time in IE8 and it returns a 404 error, manually paste the destination url in the browser and it goes there fine as if im logged in. I've compared everything between IE8 and FireFox from the rendered source and the code is not doing anything special but I cannot figure out what the differences are? Thanks. KJQ

  I have a login page which will log a user into my webapp based on their facebook login details. I then create a session to remember who they are. What I want to know is, should I be creating and/or checking the facebook credential on every single page of my webapp, or should I simply use the session I create at the beginning to login? For example, once they have logged in, I would like to allow them to post a message onto their own facebook wall from my app. Should I check the login credentials before they can post by recreating the facebook object, or should I simply use the stored login details already in my session and use that to post to their facebook wall?

• How do I restrict the WCF service called by an ASP.NET AJAX page to only allow calls for that page?

  I have an AjaxControlToolkit DynamicPopulate control that is updated by calls to a WCF service. I know I can check the HttpContext in the service request to see if a user of the page (and thus, the control) is authenticated. However, I don't want anyone clever to be able to call the service directly, even if they're logged in. I want access to the service to be allowed ONLY to requests that are made from the page. Mainly, I don't want anyone to be able to programatically make a large number of calls and then reverse-engineer the algorithm that sits behind the service. Any clever ideas on how this can be done? Maybe I'm over-thinking this? Thanks in advance.

  Hi All, I have a silverlight application that requires the user to login. The problem is when you hit the refresh button on the web page it reloads the site, and requires the user to login again. What I want it to do is act like ASP .NET where the user will remain logged in for 20 minutes even if they hit the refresh button. What mechanism is ASP .NET using to achieve this? Does it use session variables for instance, and how does it expire after 20 minutes? Thanks.

  I have been asked to set up some authentication for some content on our website using JSP. What I would like to do seems simple to me but I can't quite figure out how to do it in JSP. What I would like to do is this: When a user requests a page that you must be logged in to see, I have a tag that checks their cookies for an authentication token. If it is not there, they are redirected to a login page. After they log in, I want to redirect them back to the page they first requested along with any parameters they were sending. Now, I have the tag that is checking their authentication and redirecting them to the login page. That part is working just fine. But I'm not sure how to maintain the first requested url and parameters so they can be redirected after they login. How might I accomplish this?

  Hi everybody, Do you know any solution to recover from the PHP fatal error : "Allowed memory size ... exhausted" I have a shutdown function that is called when a fatal error appear. This function create an ErrorException from it, and logs it. The problem is : when there is no more memory available, it can't log the error (I log in Firebug, via FirePHP, with Zend Framework). So what i mean by "how to recover from it", is how to perform basic error log, and let Zend Framework send the Headers, so that the error is logged (in Firebug in my case) as any other error ? • MySQL: Limit output according to associated ID

  So here's my situation. I have a books table and authors table. An author can have many books... In my authors page view, the user (logged in) can click an author in a tabled row and be directed to a page displaying the author's books (collected like this URI format: viewauthorbooks.php?author_id=23), very straight forward... However, in my query, I need to display the books for the author only, and not all books stored in the books table (as i currently have!) As I am a complete novice, I used the most simple query of: SELECT * FROM tasks_tb This returns the books for me, but returns every single value (book) in the database, and not ones associated with the selected author. And when I click a different author the same books are displayed for them...I think everyone gets what I'm trying to achieve, I just don't know how to perform the query. I'm guessing that I need to start using more advanced query clauses like INNER JOIN etc. Anyone care to help me out :)

• Log4net rollingfile appender skipping every other day in asp.net mvc app

  Hi, I've set up some log4net logging on an asp.net mvc application i've had running for a little over a month now. I've set up rolling file (and smtp) appender on it. The application is hit several thousand times a day - alot of actions are logged. On top of these a number of batch jobs are run as part of the application that also write to the log. Now - as i've been occupied with other work, i've not attended to this application much assuming things to be working based on my test setup. Unfortunately i discover that the rolling file appender on my production server seems to be skipping every other day. Ie i have logs : 10/4/2010, 10/4/2010.1, 10/4/2010.2, 12/4/2010, 12/4/2010.1 , 14/4/2010, 14/4/2010.1 etc. Any idea what could be causing this? It is absolutely impossible that there has no action on these odd days for the lifetime of the application. Cheers

  Hello I'm creating a kind of massive network for users to register and login. I want to try using classes, but I've never used them (expect some mysql-wrappers etc). Could you provide some tips and sample-structure for my project? The idea is to simply have a index.php, which prints the whole page and does all the action. Index.php calls functions from classes inside other files. I need: user-class for checking if logged in and retrieving user-info different kind of "page"-classes for functions needed in those pages I'm not asking for full code, but just a start.   I would like to add an additional parameter in my url, the use case is the following: When user do their login they also specify a 'company' name and from that moment on, all urls should map to: /$company/$controller/$action/$id The main idea is to have the current company name available in all url's, have it bookmarkable, and not to have to pass the company name everywhere as a request parameter. Also, once users are logged in it is acceptable to have the chosen company name in session scope. What is the right way of inserting this parameter in all our urls?   Hi All, The problem: client needs a website to serve 10+ customers, each customer has 5-10 people they wish to grant access using login & user name, once "logged in" the user can download files specific to their company. The files will be uploaded to a directory under the customer name, and displayed as a list. Currently using membership for all of the users, it's just the "by customer" segmentation I'm wondering about. the question being under ASP.NET MVC what is the cleanest or simplest approach to solving the customer segmentation, trying to avoid customer membership provider so was going to use the roles to assign customer group.   Hai, I would like to calculate actual time from different timezones. I have two mysql tables 1.Timezone table: This table contians two fields (offset value, country name) values are ( -12:00, Eniwetok, Kwajalein) (-11:00, Midway Island, Samoa).... so on 2.My employee table This table contains the employees details with two field names (created_on, timezone) and the values are (current timestamp, -11:00) (current timestamp, -12:00)..... so on Now, If my employee logged in to my system, i want to display the time according to their timezones values from tables. Basically if my Current timestamp is :2010-05-10 15:41:39 offset values is: +5:30 my result should be : 10 May 2010 3:41pm the same for different offset values for the same current timestamp. I believe i explained the issue correctly, if you want any information, please ask me.

  At the end of my Python program, I'd like to be able to get a summary of the number of items logged through the standard logging module. I'd specifically like to be able to get a count for each specified name (and possibly its children). E.g. if I have: input_logger = getLogger('input') input_logger.debug("got input1") input_logger.debug("got input2") input_logger.debug("got input3") network_input_logger = getLogger('input.network') network_input_logger.debug("got network input1") network_input_logger.debug("got network input2") getLogger('output') output_logger.debug("sent output1") Then at the end I'd like to get a summary such as: input: 5 input.network: 2 output: 1 Perhaps by calling a getcount() method for a logger or a handler. What would be a good way to achieve this? I imagine it would involve a sub-class of one of the logging classes, but I'm not sure which one would be best.

  I recently created a Sinatra app with a login form (no basic auth). To prevent access to the app unless the user logged in I put a before block in place before do unless request.path_info == '/login' authenticated? end end I quickly realized that this prevented me from accessing resources in the public directory like my style sheet and logo unless authenticated first as well. To get around that I changed my filter to the following: before do unless request.path_info == '/login' || request.path_info == "/stylesheets/master.css" || request.path_info == "/images/logo.png" authenticated? end end If there were lots of resources I needed to provide exceptions to this way of making them would quickly become overwhelming. What is a better way to code this so I can make exceptions for the public directory or even its specific sub-directories and files like /stylesheets, /images, /images/bg.png but not /secret or /secret/eyes-only.pdf? Or ... Is there a completely different best-practice to handle this situation of locking down everything except the stuff related to logging in (handlers, views, resources)?

  There is a perl script that needs to run as root but the we must make sure the user who runs the script did not log-in originally as user foo as it will be removed during the script. So how can I find out if the user, who might have su-ed several times since she logged in has not impersonated 'foo' at any time in that chain? I am working with a wordpress theme. Basically could I have suggestions for the correct selector to use in order to influence this tag? I can provide a simplified html structure if it will help. • Session Timeout in VB.NET

  Hi, I have written a page with an iFrame that basically cycles through a series of internal pages on our server displaying daily activity for our company. The problem I think is that it sporadically loses its session and redirects back to the login screen to keep losing its session which is the default behavior for anyone on our site trying to access a webpage without being logged in. I have set the session timeout to 4hrs, the iframe cycles through 6 pages anywhere from 10 seconds to 5 minutes on each, and I have even set the META refresh on the page to refresh every 3 hours. I don't understand what else could possibly stop this page from staying active. Any help or ideas is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

  Hi, in my SQL2008 I have a user which is in the "db_datareader", "db_datawriter" and "db_ddladmin" DB roles, however when he tries to modify a table with SSMS he receives a message saying: You are not logged in as the database owner or system administrator. You might not be able to save changes to tables that you do not own. Of course, I would like to avoid such message, but until now I did find the way... Therefore, I try to modify the user by adding him to the "db_owner" role, and of course I do not have the message above. My question is: Is it possible to keep the user in the "db_owner" role, but deny some actions like alter user or ? I try "alter any user" securable on DB level, but it does not work... THANKS!
