• Find Content Related Images in Internet Explorer 8

  Do you want an easy way to find images related to news stories or articles when browsing in Internet Explorer? Then you will definitely want to have a look at the Bing Image Search accelerator. Bing Image Search in Action Two simple steps will have the new accelerator installed: click Add to Internet Explorer to start the process and confirm the installation when the secondary window appears. For the first of our two examples we chose the “Deepwater Horizon rig”. To find images highlight the word/name that you are interested in, and select Bing Image Search in the context menu. Hovering your mouse over the context menu listing will present a “top” image in a popup window… Or if you prefer to view multiple images click on the context menu listing. A Bing image search for the highlighted word/name will be opened in a new tab. Our second example was the Guatemalan volcano “Pacaya”. As before we first viewed the popup window image… Followed by a full image search in a new tab. The accelerator makes it quick and easy to find additional images when needed. Conclusion The Bing Image Search accelerator makes it a simple task to find additional images related to what you are reading or looking at while browsing. A fair number of businesses and schools have also switched over to Google apps and services for their organization. Whether it is at home, work, or both Google has become a part of our daily lives. Being able to access everything in one place can be extremely useful but equally frustrating if Google’s services experience any downtime. Another concern for some people is the issue of privacy over having so much information stored by a single company. Ultimately the final decision lies with you. • Friday Fun: Play Air Hockey in Google Chrome

  Do you like the challenge of fast-paced games? Then get ready to put yourself to the test with the Air Hockey extension for Google Chrome during company time. Air Hockey in Action There are two ways that you can play Air Hockey…either using the drop-down window or opening the game in a new tab. For our example we chose to play in a new tab. Before starting the game you can choose the difficulty level, to enable/disable the sound, and/or to go to full screen if desired. Note: Screenshot of “Full Screen” version shown below. While playing you really have to stay on top of things…the computer player will beat you rather quickly if you do not. Hustle hustle hustle! With a little bit of practice it does become easier but even the “Easy Level” on this game will keep you busy. If the normal size game screen seems just a bit small you can easily get a larger version using the “Full Screen Link” below the game window. Whether your browser is non-maximized as shown here or totally maximized it will fill the entire browser window area. Conclusion If you like fast paced games then the Air Hockey extension certainly fits that criteria and will keep you on your toes. Make sure and keep the sound off while playing during Friday afternoon though! • Good php editor

  i have seen through other questions on the topic but most are a bit old. I looking for a good editor for developing on PHP in Linux(ubuntu). Here is my requirements Basic editor features Free Light-Weight Syntax highlighting Code Folding (class,function,if/else/while/foreach block) Code completion Invalid Syntax/Error highlighting as you type Auto code intending Snippet support(pieces of custom or language specific codes that i can insert) Extendable support It would be great if it had the following Debugging support WYSIWYG Code formatting Framework support(cakephp/yii/zend/smarty) Testing support Todo Native look and feel(Gnome) Flex/ROR support is welcome but not a requirement Mysql support I have tried the following editors Netbeans - it bloated, resource hogging and doesnt not have a native look and feel. Eclipse is okay but i cant fold if/while blocks and slow. Gedit can be extended and i have tried it but still i could not fold code or show error. I currently use Geany but it doesn't inform me of syntax errors as i type. If you have ways to solve the problems with above editors they too are also welcome

• Manage Sending 2010 Documents to the Web with Office Upload Center

  One of the main new features being touted in Office 2010 is the ability to upload documents to the Web for sharing and collaboration. Today we look at using Office Upload Center to help manage your uploaded documents. Microsoft Office Upload Center  When you upload an Office 2010 document to the web, a handy tool to manage them is the Office Upload Center. It’s a way to see what is being uploaded or what might have failed to reach the servers. It lets you know if a document failed to upload for some reason. In this case it looks like the incorrect credentials were entered when signing into Windows Live. Click on the Resolve button to get a list of actions you can take to get things corrected.   You can access the Upload Center from the icon which appears on the System Tray when uploading documents. Right-click the icon to control notifications, pause uploads, and access its settings. In the Settings section you can choose how Upload Center displays notifications, select the number of days to keep files in Cache, and delete currently cached files. If you find yourself uploading several documents to the web during the day, the Office Upload Center is a nice feature for managing them.   If you are active in forums or comment areas on different websites then you most likely use some type of special characters, HTML, or other code throughout the day. Now you can easily insert commonly used “items” with the SKeys extension for Firefox. Your New Special Text Edit Bar After installing the extension you will see the new toolbar that has been added to your browser. These are the kinds of text that can be added to online comment areas, forums, or other website areas that allow their use: Special characters HTML tags BB codes Wiki characters All that you will need to do is click on the appropriate special character or code to insert it into the website text area. The first two toolbar items are each singular in their function and insert the following types of text. A look at the special characters available for your use. The wiki code menu. The HTML menu… And the BB code menu. Here is a quick sample using the HTML menu…much better than doing it manually. This should definitely help speed things up throughout the day. Our only disappointment during testing was not being able to add additional items (i.e. characters, tags) to the toolbar at this time. Conclusion While a new toolbar may not be for everyone this extension can certainly prove useful when you need to quickly add special characters or coding in website text areas. • [MINI HOW-TO] Repair Missing External Hard Drive Database Error in WHS

  If you’re using external hard drives with your Windows Home Server, they might get unplugged and create an error. Here we look at running the Repair Wizard to quickly fix the issue. If an external drive that is included in your drive pool becomes unplugged or loses power, you might see the following error under Home Network Health when opening the WHS Console. To fix the issue verify the drive has power and is plugged in correctly and click Repair. The wizard launches and you’ll need to agree that you may lose data during the repair of the backup database. In this example it was a simple problem where an external drive became unplugged from the server…so you can close out of the wizard. If you look under Server Storage you can see the drive is missing…To fix the issue verify the drive has power and is plugged in correctly. WHS will add the drive back into the pool and when finished you’ll see it listed as healthy and good to go. Using external drives that are part of your storage pool may not be the best way to have your home built WHS setup, but if you do, expect occasional errors such as this.   After dealing with unnecessary spreadsheets and TPS reports all week, it’s time to waste time playing a flash game. Today we take a look at Building Blasters 2 where you strategically place explosives to bring down structures. Building Blasters 2 You need to place explosives carefully to clear areas in the red level, keep bystanders safe, and manage your budget. After placing the explosives on the structure, you can set the amount of time that passes before they blow. This comes in handy when you reach advanced levels. When you’re ready to start the demolition click on the Detonate button and watch the buildings fall. If you don’t achieve the objectives, you will get the Demolition Error screen and can replay the level. After you’ve received enough money, you’ll get a message between missions telling you there is enough money to buy items in the shop. You can get enhanced destructive devices such as nitroglycerin, a wrecking ball, call in an air strike and more… If you’re sick of the pointy haired boss dragging you down all week, pretend the structures are the office building and destroy away. Building Blasters 2 is a great way to have fun and let off steam so you can enjoy your weekend. • Retrieve a command from another, remote bash session

  So I was on our laptop, SSH'd into my desktop, dropping some mad bashfu skill. There was one command I ran which was particularly skilful. I'm now about minute walk from the laptop and I really want that command here on my desktop, so that I can run it again. I realise I've already spent more time that it would have taken to rewrite it, but this has raised a common issue I have with bash history. I know I can force it to update each command, but I haven't... so: Is there any way to get a history from a different, live bash session?

• How do I explain to HR that my work experience is relevant even if it doesn't match the keywords in the job description?

  I am looking at a job with a great company and in a field that I really want to be in. Unfortunalty, what they want is someone with "experience with ASP (VB), T-SQL in a production environment." But I've never done anything except with FOSS tools: C, Ruby(straight and RoR), Perl, MySQL, et c. I'm thinking that I could probably pick up VB without much trouble (I took a class that used it on college, was impressed at how easy it was to construct Windows UIs, but I've never needed it) Is there any way that I can demonstrate that my experience is similar? What would equivalent experience be in the FOSS world?

• Help deploying using Capistrano to HostGator

  My company uses HostGator to host our web sites, and I'm having a heck of a time figuring out what my final steps are to get a functioning RoR app up there. I've got all the way up to configuring mongrel (I think?) and being able to run deploy:cold without any errors. However, I can't seem to get the app to show up in the designated CPanel area (HG says the name "current" is already reserved for another application), and I'm not sure which port was allowed for me to use. I've opened tickets with Customer Support just to be told that "You can't access the database with root"... Totally unrelated to my question... So I think I'm in the final stretch and if anyone has any insight or experience with HostGator, please cue me in.

• Intel NUC Video Blur

  I recently purchased the D34010WYKH NUC and I figured this would be a great time to make the jump to a Linux based system. I'm running Ubuntu 14.04, and I'm having an issue with video rendering that is driving me mad. Essentially videos (all 1080p mkv files) appear to be slowly blurring, and its most noticeable when the camera remains on a scene for a long period of time. Then all of a sudden the video will correct the blur and the image will be sharp, only to begin happening again followed by more sudden and noticeable corrections. I have seen the exact same issue in both VLC and XBMC and across several different videos. I have installed the latest Intel graphics drivers, and searched the web but to be honest I'm not sure how to accurately describe this problem. I'm also quite new to the OS, so my experience tinkering is limited. Has anyone experienced this type of issue before? Can it be resolved?

• Best/Easiest Technology for a RESTful webservice [closed]

  So I'm going to be creating a phone app + website that will need to utilize a web service. Webservices are completely outside my domain so I'm not entirely sure where to start. Does anybody have any suggestions on the technology stack I should use? (mainly in terms of ease of use and reliability) So far what I've looked at are: RoR Python + Django + TastyPie Python + Flask Microsoft WCF 3.5 PHP + some framework I would rather not do anything with Java I'm leaning towards the Python + Django + TastyPie route as it seems like it would be easy to get up and going and learn in general. My only concern with it is the reliability of the libraries (feature breaking updates, abandonment, etc). Also I would prefer to create the website with the same framework so I wouldn't have to deal with learning and using two different ones. Any advice would be helpful, thanks.

• How much to charge Ruby on Rails Website [closed]

  I figured it be appropriate to ask this question on webmasters, over the stackoverflow site seeing as there are similar questions here. I am freelancing for a client in the Boston area, who has the html/css templates for their site made by another web designer. They are basically looking for someone to set up the template, and then make the backend so that a user can purchase music on their site (they are musicians). I am wondering then what would be an appropriate amount to charge them to develop such a system, I am a student, and this would be my 3rd Ruby on Rails project, but probably at least the 20 web design project I have been hired to do and I have other programming knowledge, Python, C, etc. I am thinking of suggesting that they pay 1000usd to set up such a system, but I don't know if this is appropriate. To me it seems justifiable given my experience, and the low end of RoR developers I have seen charging 25usd/hr all the way up to 150usd/hr. Any advice would be appreciated.
