• XAMPP - Apache service stops running after few seconds.

  Hello I have this big problem with my Xampp server, for some reason the Apache service stops running after a few seconds it as been started, and i have no idea what the problem is, and the error logs don't say much about the problem. I have done some changes to the httpd.conf file but, it as worked well for allot of time. Added some virtual hosts. Enabled xdebug. As this happen to anyone, that could tell me whats the problem?   I've got a windows 7 laptop that BSOD with a Service Exception Error when I connect to a wireless network. It also does it when it's just sitting still doing nothing. • SQL Server 2008 R2 upgrade fails on upgrade rule check

  I'm trying to upgrade an evaluation instance of SQL Server 2008 to a fully licensed instance of SQL Server 2008 R2. I made it most of the way through the installer, but I'm getting stopped at the Upgrade Rules page - the SQL Server Analysis Services Upgrade Service Functional Check is failing. The specific error I get: Rule "SQL Server Analysis Services Upgrade Service Functional Check" failed. The current instance of the SQL Server Analysis Services service cannot be upgraded because the Analysis Services service is disabled or not online. Please start the service and then run the upgrade rules check again. Simple enough - just need to start the service. Here's where it gets troublesome. When I open Services and go to start the SQL Server Analysis Services (MSSQLSERVER) service, it provides me the following message: The SQL Server Analysis Services (MSSQLSERVER) service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs. Trying from the command line as Administrator yields: PS C:\Windows\System32 net start MSSQLServerOLAPService The SQL Server Analysis Services (MSSQLSERVER) service is starting... The SQL Server Analysis Services (MSSQLSERVER) service could not be started. The service did not report an error. More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 3534. I've tried changing the logon setting of this service to Administrator, a user with admin privileges, and both the Local System and Network Service accounts - nothing works. In addition, when I look at the service through the SQL Server Configuration Manager (also run as Administrator), attempting to change the logon setting for the service results in the message: The server threw an exception. [0x80010105] I have no need for analysis services themselves - all I need is for this one service to be running long enough to do the R2 upgrade, then it can shut down again. Any thoughts on how to get the Analysis Services service running? Update: Checking the event log, I found an error logged to the Application log from the MSSQLServerOLAPService. It has event ID 0, task category (289), and says: The service cannot be started: XML parsing failed at line 1, column 4: Unrecognized input signature.

• How can I fix Office Sharepoint Search service?

  For some reason, in operations server services, Office Sharepoint Search Service is MISSING! Which means I cant get Shared services working, which in turn I cannot get, and I do not think I have ever got Usage and reporting to see who is visiting my website, counter and with what OS/ browser ETC. I dont think I have ever seen this work in the 2 years trying with sharepoint. So in essense I have two problems, most important SEARCH, second usage reports. When trying to search, all i get is unknown error. Nothing is in my event viewer at all. I have tried http://www.cjvandyk.com/blog/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=96 , in the comments on that site, on other person reports search is missing entirely and is going to uninstall. Im tired of uninstall sharepoint and resinstalling to fix an odd off issue. I have things setup with Team foundation server that took forever to get work and reinstallation is not my solution. As for usage reporting, this is what microsoft responds to the " Both Windows SharePoint Services Usage logging and Office SharePoint Usage Processing must be enabled to view usage reports. Please contact your administrator to ensure that these services are enabled. " error I cannot do all the steps since SSP needs to be setup which i cant above.

  I saw that there are other questions like mine here. But O also saw that some problems where solved with fixmbr from a Windows 7 recovery console, but that didn't work for me. I bought my laptop with Vista installed and later reformated and used Windows 7. During formatting with Windows 7 I had some problems with my hard drive and found out it was dead so I bought a new one. I wanted to reformat with Windows XP,because Windows 7 is consuming more RAM that it is able handle and I wanted to use it for other programs. So I formatted with Windows XP Service Pack 3 but after first reboot a message appeared: "Error loading operating system" Reading here, I assumed that maybe I had installed it on the wrong partition and maybe having two OS now, so I used fixmbr but it is still not starting up. Anyway I am sure that is not the case of two operating systems. Is there any chance that when the computer designed to work with Vista you would face problems with Windows XP? Like not recognizing a hard drive?

• IIS 7.5 FTP Service crashes after installation of Advanced Logging 1.0 Module

  I've recently been tasked with setting up two new productions servers for an ASP.Net application. The servers sit behind a F5 Load Balancer, which in turn forwards the end users IP address forward via the standard X_Forwarded_For HTTP Header. All of the reading that I have done suggests that I need to install the IIS Advanced Logging Module in order to take advantage of the X_Forwarded_For HTTP Header. Some quick background: Both of the web servers are Windows 2008 R2 Standard (x64), with IIS 7.5 installed and configured. The FTP Role has also been installed, configured and is operational. The Issue After installing the IIS Advanced Logging module via the Web Platform Installer, I noticed the following Error in the Event Viewer: The FTP Service encountered an error trying to read configuration data from file \?\C:\Windows\system32\inetsrv\config\applicationHost.config, line number 374. The error message is: Unrecognized element 'advancedLogging' Trying to connect over FTP to either of the web servers results in a 530. I've spent 2 hours scouring Google trying to find a solution, short of uninstalling the Advanced Logging Module. As far as I can tell, there is no way to turn off Advanced Logging on a site per site basis. Help would be appreciated.

• Setting "Run WWW service in IIS 5.0 isolation mode" does not persist in IIS 6

  Our IIS server was recently patched with the latest Microsoft Security Updates and since then, I am unable to enable the "Run WWW service in IIS 5.0 isolation mode" setting. This setting was enabled prior to patching and somehow changed during the updates. I have tried both using the IIS Manager console and the adsutil.vbs approach to change it. Either way, after resetting IIS for the change to take effect, when I go to verify that the isolation mode setting is enabled (true) I find that is reverts back to being disabled (false). Now... The patches have already been rolled back, however the setting still does not persist when I enable it. While I am trying to research the patches that were applied to see if there is a known issue (or perhaps a change in this setting's behavior) I was hoping someone else might have come across the same problem. • Adding new SPNs to existing service ids

  We have a tomcat server using spring-security kerberos to authenticate users to the webpage against active directory. There are around 25 domain controllers. The site has two CNAME based DNS aliases. The site currently has one Service ID with SPNs registered for the DNS A record as well as each of the CNAMEs. While everything is working right now, I don't know how to reliably change this configuration without possible downtime. The reason is that clients cache kerberos tickets: http://www.juniper.net/techpubs/en_US/uac4.2/topics/concept/user-role-active-directory-about.html The 'kerbtray.exe' program is helpful for viewing and deleting Kerberos tickets on the endpoint. Old tickets must be purged from the endpoint if SPNs are updated or passwords are changed (assuming the endpoint still has a cached copy of the ticket from a prior SPNEGO request to the MAG Series device. During testing, you should purge tickets before each authentication request. Description of "klist" program used to inspect/delete cached tickets: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh134826.aspx So if each of the clients (users running windows) who connect to my web server have kerberos tickets that become invalid as soon as I update the SPNs or passwords, how do I ensure changes are seamless? Are there any operations that can be done safely? I can't just ask all of the users to install klist and delete their old tickets.

• DriveImage XML fails with a Windows Volume Shadow Service Error

  I'm trying to image a SATA laptop hard drive, using DriveImageXML, that is attached to my computer via a USB adapter. I'm running Win7 Ultimate 64 bit. DriveXML is returning: Could not initialize Windows Volume Shadow Service (VSS). ERROR C:\Program Files (x86)\Runtime Software\Drivelmage XML\vss64.exe failed to start. ERROR TIMEOUT Make sure VSSVC.EXE is running in your task manager. Click Help for more information. VSSVC.EXE is running in Task Manager, as is VSS64.exe. Looking at the FAQ on the Runtime webpage this turned up: Please verify in Settings-Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Services that the following services are enabled: MS Software Shadow Copy Provider Volume Shadow Copy Also make sure you are able to stop and start these services. Possible reasons for VSS failures: For VSS to work, at least one volume in your computer must be NTFS. If you use only FAT drives, VSS will not function. The required NTFS volume does not need to be identical with the volume you want to image. You should make sure that VSSVC.EXE is running in your task manager. If the problems persist, registering "oleaut.dll" and "oleaut32.dll" using "regsvr32" might help. Both of those services are running and can be started and stopped without issue. Using "regsvr32" to register ""oleaut32.dll" returns successful, but "oleaut.dll" returns: The module "oleaut.dll" failed to load. Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files. The specified module could not be found. Some other information that might be relevant. Browsing to the drive is successful, but accessing certain folders returns an "access" error. Windows runs a permissions adder that adds the current user profile to the NFTS permissions. Could this be the cause of the issue? DriveImage XML is running as Administrator. Thoughts?

  So I am learning how to use systemd to initialize my services automatically on server reboot. So of course, I first make sure I have systemd and some optional systemd related packages installed. pacman -S systemd initscripts-systemd Installation seems to go well and checking, I can see that systemd and its dependency libsystemd are installed. And the optional package initscripts-systemd is also installed:- [root@li280-195 ~]# pacman -Ss systemd extra/libsystemd 44-5 [installed] systemd client libraries extra/systemd 44-5 [installed] system and service manager extra/systemd-sysvcompat 2-2 sysvinit compat symlinks for systemd community/initscripts-systemd 20120412-1 [installed] Arch specific systemd initialization/bootup scripts for systemd community/systemd-arch-units 20120412-2 Arch specific Systemd unit files Next, I ensure that systemd is loaded up when my server reboots, via grub in grub's /boot/grub/menu.lst file like this:- kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/xvda ro init=/bin/systemd Rebooting my server to check, all loads up well and I can check that systemd is operational via:- systemctl list-unit-files However, I don't see my cherokee initialization script (which is simply created at /etc/rc.d/cherokee when I installed cherokee earlier via pacman -S cherokee) being listed as one of my unit files. So the question is, how do I do that? How do I put my cherokee initialization script under systemd's control?

• Autodiscover service seems to reply with User Principal Name instead of email address

  After this latest round of Windows updates (on 1/11/11, in fact) my Exchange 2007 server of course rebooted. This may have had the side effect of making any changes I'd inadvertently made take effect. Since then, the Autodiscover service in Exchange 2007 from Outlook 2007 seems to reply with the User Principal Name ([email protected] instead of [email protected]). I'm specifically seeing this from within the "Test Email AutoConfiguration" tool in Outlook (the UPN appears in the first text box labeled "E-mail") and when creating a new profile in Outlook. If I disregard the UPN and instead fill in my email address, Autodiscover works as expected and I can connect without issue. I've confirmed using ADSI Edit that the SMTP email address is properly set for my users. I even went a bit crazy and set the UPN to the email address using ADSI Edit. I've re-installed the Client Access role on the server in question. Exchange server is Server 2008, 64-bit of course. Clients are mostly XP 32-bit, though the issue happens from a Windows 7 machine as well.

• Anti Virus Service does not run - Windows XP SP3 32bit Home

  I have a somewhat strange problem here. I am trying to run Anti Virus Software on my Windows XP Home 32bit System. After a serious crash I had to fall back to an outdated copy of my initial installation and had Windows install 5 years of updates. So far so good. After Intalling a new Anti Virus Software (Bitdefender 2012) everything seemed to be fine, initial scanning went fine and configuration was working. But after restarting the System the Virus Scanner was unable to start up again. Even the Configuration console of the AV Software did not start. I tried scanning the System for malware, but nothing was found. Then I tried a different AV Software (MS Security Essentials), but in the end it did fail to start too. I have tried to start the Service manually, but I seem to be missing the privilege to do so. I am logged in as a Non-"Administrator" User with Admin privileges (Not much choices there on a XP Home System). I cannot switch to Administrator account outside the protected mode. When running Windows in protected mode I am unable to start the AV Software because it does not run in protected mode. I am a bit at loss now...

• If I implement a web-service, how do I respond to POST requests with JSON?

  I have to make a rather complex system for my diploma work. Logically it will consist of the following components: Database Web-service Management with web interface Client iOS application that will consume web-service I decided to implement all the first three components under .NET. Firstly I will create a database depending on the information load - this is clear. But then I need a web-service that will return data in JSON format for iOS clients to consume - that's obvious and not that hard to implement. For this I will use WCF technology. Now I have a question, if I implement the web-service, how will I be able to respond to POST requests with JSON? It probably involves WCF JSON or something related? But I also need some web pages as admin part, so will this web-application be able to consume my centralized web-services as well or I should develop it separately? I just want my web service to act like a set of controllers. There is a related question here but this doesn't quite reflect my question.

• mshtml.dll latest version for Internet Explorer 8, Windows XP Service Pack 3

  Many applications in my system (Internet Explorer 8, Yahoo Messenger, Skype 10) are crashing and error details shows module name mshtml.dll. I checked the version of mshtml.dll in system32 folder. It is 8.0.6001.19170. My Internet Explorer version is 8.0.6001.18702. I am not concerned about crash of IE, because I generally use Firefox, but how do I solve the crashes in other applications, which are due to mshtml.dll? I have moved to Windows XP Service Pack 3 (32 bit). I have tried to update Internet Explorer 8 (from Tools-Windows Update), but again it crashes. I can not migrate to IE 9, as it requires Vista or Windows 7. I have applied Cumulative Security update for IE8, which has this file name: IE8-WindowsXP-KB2618444-x86-ENU.exe I could not get much info from Microsoft sites or Google. I do not want to use Automatic Updates feature of Windows. Can somebody give the download links for mshtml.dll and any associated files, which I can replace in system32 folder? Thanks.

• Firefox proxy authentication with Kerberos: one service ticket per connection (Linux)

  I am trying to enable proxy authentication via Kerberos for Firefox. The setup is: Active Directory domain (for LDAP and Kerberos; this works and I can log in the computer and get Kerberos tickets without problems) Microsoft Windows witness machine (on which Firefox runs fine with no ticket problem) CentOS 6.3 system with Firefox (the tests were performed with both the 10.0.1 ESR found in the CentOS package repositories and the 15.0.1 downloaded from Mozilla's website) BlueCoat proxy with Kerberos authentication enabled For the moment, Firefox requests an element of a website, gets an HTTP error code of "407 Proxy Authentication Required" from the proxy, gets a ticket granting service (TGS) from the domain for the proxy and performs the request again while passing the ticket. The transaction runs fine. However, when more elements are requested (in parallel), Firefox requests one more ticket per proxy connection. And this takes many DNS queries, Kerberos interactions with domain controllers and costs a lot of time (for example, the home page of Adobe takes several minutes to load and at the end, I have about 30 valid Kerberos tickets). I am stuck on this since a while, and help would be greatly appreciated. Minor information: the CentOS operating system is virtualized with VMware Player 3.1.3, but I do not think this would be a game changer.

  On Ubuntu 11.10, I have to issue python tasks from django using celery. I'm currently testing on the same machine but eventually the celery worker should run on a remote machine. django uses the following settings: BROKER_HOST = "127.0.0.1" BROKER_PORT = 5672 BROKER_VHOST = "/my_vhost" BROKER_USER = "celery" BROKER_PASSWORD = "celery" I can also see my task queued in http://localhost:55672/#/queues the celery daemon uses the following configuration (celeryconfig.py): BROKER_HOST = "127.0.0.1" BROKER_PORT = 5672 BROKER_USER = "celery" BROKER_PASSWORD = "celery" BROKER_VHOST = "/my_vhost" CELERY_RESULT_BACKEND = "amqp" import os import sys sys.path.append(os.getcwd()) CELERY_IMPORTS = ("tasks", ) running celeryd -l info works well and now I want to run it as a service. • Service Layer - how broad should it be, and should it be used also on the local application?

  Background: I need to build a main application with some operations (CRUD and more) (-in winforms), I need to make another application which will re-use some of the functions of the main application (-in webforms). I understood that using service layer is the best approach here. If I understood correctly the service should be calling the function on the BL layer (correct me if I'm wrong) The dilemma: In my main winform UI - should I call the functions from the BL, or from the service? • Server Recovery from Denial of Service

  I'm looking at a server that might be misconfigured to handle Denial of Service. The database was knocked offline after the attack, and was unable to restart itself after it failed to restart when the attack subsided. Details of the Attack: The Attacker either intentionally or unintentionally sent 1000's of search queries using the applications search query url within a couple of seconds. • Printer spooler service stop running when sent print job

  Every time i am sending a print job to the printer, i am don't get any response from the printer, and at the printer job list at the status of the job, i see that there was an Error, but it don't give me any clue on what could be the problem. After some investigation i found that every time that i send the print job to the printer the printer spooler service stops to run, then after a second or two it start again (i think that this behavior is related to the printer spooler settings to rerun it self after it stops). Things that i have tried so far: Remove and Install again the Driver. After removing the driver, i have removed the unnecessary registry keys according to this article from Microsoft, these are: Rename all files and folders in: c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86 Remove anything but Drivers Print and Processors: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environment\Windows NT x86 Remove anything in here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors but: BJ Language Monitor Local Port Microsoft Document Imaging Writer Monitor Microsoft Shared Fax Monitor Standard TCP/IP Port USB Monitor WSD Port Disconnect and Reconnect the Printer. Clean the computer from Viruses & Spywares. Currently i am stuck, i have no more things to try, if anybody know about any kind of solution please let me know about it. Since i am want to keep this post as general problem that relate to the printer spooler, and not just my particular problem, i didn't included inside the windows version & the printer model, they are (although i think that it isn't relate just for that particular model): Windows 7 32bit, HP Officejet 4500 G510g-m (connect to the computer via USB). • Store VOD wmi data in a database directly or use CQRS?

  I need to collect Video on demand bandwidth usage every few minutes (or maybe ever few seconds) and store this in a database so users can produce graphs on bandwidth usage over a period of time (few hours, days, weeks or even possibly months). So the sort of data that will be stored will be the number of users watching videos, current server bandwidth (Mb/s), multicast bit rate etc. I am wondering whether using CQRS would be a good approach with Event sourcing as I can then rebuild my objects to create different projections (I.e. different graphs/reports etc) but then again it seems like I am introducing complexity which might not be needed. Or would it be best to just put the data directly in a database (currently using PostGres) directly and query off that? Having thought about it, my table is a form of audit log anyway, so I don't think I need event sourcing at all. Any thoughts?

• Service Layer - how broad should it be, and should it also be on the local application?

  Background: I need to build a desktop application with some operations (CRUD and more) (=winforms), I need to make another application which will re-use some of the functions of the main application (=webforms). I understood that using service layer is the best approach here. If I understood correctly the service should be calling the function on the BL layer (correct me if I'm wrong) The dilemma: In my main winform UI - should I call the functions from the BL, or from the service? • Intermittent FTP login issues (Microsoft IIS FTP Service)

  I've got a somewhat weird problem which I'm not sure how to troubleshoot. We have a FTP running on a Windows Server 2003 machine using the IIS FTP Service, this is for our clients and is configured with IP-restrictions. However, now ONE of the clients starts complaining that they can't log in to the server from time to time. This is just ONE of 10+ clients that have this issue, which makes me think it's a problem on their side. Just to be on the safe side I had a peek into the FTP logs and found something strange. Whenever succeed in loggin in this is what I can find in the logs: nnn.nnn.nnn.70, userxxx, 2012-06-11, 09:22:32, MSFTPSVC1, SERVERNAME, nnn.nn.nn.11, 0, 0, 0, 331, 0, [191747]USER, userxxx, -, nnn.nnn.nnn.70, userxxx, 2012-06-11, 09:22:32, MSFTPSVC1, SERVERNAME, nnn.nn.nn.11, 0, 0, 0, 230, 0, [191747]PASS, -, -, However, if the login fails I see the following events: nnn.nnn.nnn.70, userxxx, 2012-06-11, 09:16:33, MSFTPSVC1, SERVERNAME, nnn.nn.nn.11, 0, 0, 0, 331, 0, [191739]USER, userxxx, -, nnn.nnn.nnn.70, -, 2012-06-11, 09:16:33, MSFTPSVC1, SERVERNAME, nnn.nn.nn.11, 0, 0, 0, 530, 1326, [191739]PASS, -, -, When you look at the event where the clients sends the PASS in the successful login it seems to know that it is infact "userxxx" that is coupled to that PASS, but when it fails it seems to be lost since user in the PASS event is set to "-".
