  • How should I organize my C# classes? [closed]

    I'm creating an email generator system. I'm creating some clases and I'm trying to make things right. By the time, I have created 5 classes. Look at the class diagram: I'm going to explain you each one. Person. It's not a big deal. Just have two constructors: Person(fname, lname1, lname2) and Person(token, fname, lname1, lname2). Note that email property stays without value. StringGenerator. This is a static class and it has only a public function: Generate. The function receives a Person class and it will return a list of patterns for the email. MySql. It contains all the necessary to connect to a database. Database. This class inherits from MySql class. It has particular functions for the database. This gets all the registries from a table (function GetPeople) and return a List. Each person from the list contains all data except Email. Also it can add records (List but this must contains an available email). An available email is when an email doesn't have another person. For that reason, I have a method named ExistsEmail. Container. This is the class which is causing me some problems. It's like a temporary container. It supposed to have a people list from GetPeople (in Database class) and for each person it adds, it must generate a list of possible names (StringGenerator.Generate), then it selects one of the list and it must check out if exists in the database or in the same container. As I told above this is temporal, it may none of the possible emails is available. So the user can modify or enter a custom email available and update the list in this container. When all the email's people are available, it sends a list to add in the database, It must have a Flush method, to insert all the people in the database. I'm trying to design correct class. I need a little help to improve or edite the classes, because I want to separate the logic and visual, and learn of you. I hope you've been able to understand me.   • Planning a skillset for a fallback career [closed]

    I'm not too certain this is a SO question, but I didn't think it belonged in meta either. Long story short, I am bioinformatics researcher. I like to code, it's my favourite part of the job. I have been thinking for a while that if academia is not kind to me, I might seek a career in software development. My current contract is for three years and I would like to spend some time over the next 3 three years learning and practicing software development as possible. Python seems like a popular language and it what I mostly use to do things for me, but I am also in heavy use of R. So my main question is: Are python and R good things to be learning with a sotfware dev goal in mind, and if so, is there any particular type of programming or software that might be useful to have experience with. Hard questions to answer I know, but I thought I would get the answer from people who are in the know. Cheers, Davy.

" I've also seen self-proclaimed senior programmers take more than 10-15 minutes to write a solution." For those that can't be bothered to read the article, the background is this: ....I set out to develop questions that can identify this kind of developer and came up with a class of questions I call "FizzBuzz Questions" named after a game children often play (or are made to play) in schools in the UK. An example of a Fizz-Buzz question is the following: Write a program that prints the numbers from 1 to 100. But for multiples of three print "Fizz" instead of the number and for the multiples of five print "Buzz". For numbers which are multiples of both three and five print "FizzBuzz". SO I decided to test myself. I took 5 minutes in C++ and 3mins in c#! So just for fun try it and post your timings + language used! P.S NO UNIT TESTS REQUIRED, NO OUTSOURCING ALLOWED, SWITCH OFF RESHARPER! :-) P.S. If you'd like to post your source then feel free

  • Source control issue with deploying versions

    Hi all, we have this discussion about how to deploy to production revisions that are UAT closed without revisions with UAT not-closed status. We are using SVN and we figured out that we are not able to just take revisions without prior-revisions on the same file made. Let me explain it on this example: we have 3 revisions made on same file: r1: UAT closed (ready to deploy) r2: UAT not-closed (not ready) r3: UAT closed (ready to deploy) now I want to deploy only my changes for which the UAT is closed (e.g. r1 and r3). In SVN this is not possible because r3 contains also r2 changes.. How do you made this to work? Maybe branching? Or just take r1 and wait until r2 is UAT closed? thanks

    Using http://web-sniffer.net/, I'm seeing a 500 internal error when accessing the https://www version of my site (https://moblized.com). However that URL loads perfectly fine with no errors. I was checking this because Google Webmaster is showing a bunch of 500 errors on my site. Also just noticed that I get a 200 success error if sniffing with HTTP 1.0, but a 500 with HTTP 1.1 Note: All other URL versions 301 redirect to https://www, eg. http://www , https:// , http:// FIXED: For any curious parties, there was one PHP bug that was causing a fatal error, but was still allowing the page to load. Turning on php_debug helped...

  • Are tags considered requirements? [closed]

    I'm new to stack overflow, made a few responses. I responded to a question that was something like: "I need to do X, I found a sed one liner that almost does it, but not quite" And was tagged 'sed'. I assumed the user just wanted a solution and tagged it with sed because it was a possible answer. So I suggested an alternate way using another tool that was more concise and didn't involve regex (another one-liner). I received a down vote for not meeting the requirement of the user. Since I'd like to make sure I conform to good forum etiquette, my question is: Are tags considered hard requirements that should limit the scope of responses? (within reason of course, a .NET question with a .NET tag obviously shouldn't receive a ruby answer).

  • Python vs all the major professional languages [closed]

    I've been reading up a lot lately on comparisons between Python and a bunch of the more traditional professional languages - C, C++, Java, etc, mainly trying to find out if its as good as those would be for my own purposes. I can't get this thought out of my head that it isn't good for 'real' programming tasks beyond automation and macros. Anyway, the general idea I got from about two hundred forum threads and blog posts is that for general, non-professional-level progs, scripts, and apps, and as long as it's a single programmer (you) writing it, a given program can be written quicker and more efficiently with Python than it could be with pretty much any other language. But once its big enough to require multiple programmers or more complex than a regular person (read: non-professional) would have any business making, it pretty much becomes instantly inferior to a million other languages. Is this idea more or less accurate? (I'm learning Python for my first language and want to be able to make any small app that I want, but I plan on learning C eventually too, because I want to get into driver writing eventually. So I've been trying to research each ones strengths and weaknesses as much as I can.) Anyway, thanks for any input
