• ASP.NET MVC: shortcut for Response.Write and String.Format

- by pcampbell
I've found a pattern in my Views like this: <% if (someCondition) { Response.Write(string.Format("Hello {0}, Visitor {1} on {2}.", userName, someCounter, someDate)); } else { Response.Write(string.Format("Foo is {0}.", bar)); } %> The question here is around DRY and Response.Write(string.Format()). Are there better, or more concise ways to . Consider that HTML encoding would be a nice feature to include, perhaps as a boolean to a method call of some kind (extension method on Html?. Is there an obvious extension method that I'm missing? Do you have an extension method that you rely on to achieve this functionality?

• ProtectedData.Unprotect() after Impersonate()

- by Andrey
The following code doesn't work: IntPtr token = Win32Dll.LogonUser(“user1”, “mydomain”, “password1”); WindowsIdentity id = new WindowsIdentity(token); WindowsImpersonationContext ic = id.Impersonate(); byte[] unprotectedBytes = ProtectedData.Unprotect(passwordBytes, null, DataProtectionScope.CurrentUser); password = Encoding.Unicode.GetString(unprotectedBytes); ic.Undo(); The password is not decrypted. MSDN said "If you use this method during impersonation, you may receive the following error: "Key not valid for use in specified state." This error can be prevented by loading the profile of the user you want to impersonate, before calling the method." I would be very grateful for the help!

• jstree dynamic JSON data from django

- by danspants
I'm trying to set up jsTree to dynamically accept JSON data from django. This is the test data i have django returning to jstree: result=[{ "data" : "A node", "children" : [ { "data" : "Only child", "state" : "closed" } ], "state" : "open" },"Ajax node"] response=HttpResponse(content=result,mimetype="application/json") this is the jstree code I'm using: jQuery("#demo1").jstree({ "json_data" : { "ajax" : { "url" : "/dirlist", "data" : function (n) { return { id : n.attr ? n.attr("id") : 0 }; }, error: function(e){alert(e);} } }, "plugins" : [ "themes","json_data"] }); All I get is the ajax loading symbol, the ajax error response is also triggered and it alerts "undefined". I've also tried simpleJson encoding in django but with the same result. If I change the url so that it is receiving a JSON file with identical data, it works as expected. Any ideas on what the issue might be?

• Android text layout question: two textviews, side-by-side, with different layout alignments and weights

- by thx1200
I'm still a bit of an Android noob, forgive me if this is simple and I'm just not seeing it. There are two portions of text in a view that spans the entire width horizontally, but is only as high as one line of text. The left side must always be displayed in full, but should take no more horizontal space than it needs. The right side should be pushed over by the left side and fill up the remainder of the screen width. If the right side text is smaller than this width, the text should be right-aligned horizontally. If the text is greater than the width, it should scroll horizontally. The text on the right side will be updated frequently and should slide up with new text when the app tells it (explaining the TextSwitcher in the layout). I have tried two different layout styles. In both situations, I can get the left side to "push" the layout, the right side to scroll, but I can't figure out how to get the right side to right align. It is always left aligned. Here is a picture showing what is happening... http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/5599/androidlayout.png In addition (but less important), in my layout code I have android:fadingEdge="none" on the TextViews, but it still has a faded edge on the left and right side when it scrolls. Why is that? Here are the two layouts I created, which yield the results shown, but not the results I want. Using a horizontal LinearLayout... <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/LinearLayoutStatusBar" android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_margin="2px" android:background="#555555" > <TextView android:id="@+id/TextViewTimer" android:textSize="18px" android:textColor="#FFFFFF" android:layout_gravity="left" android:layout_weight="0" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_marginLeft="0px" android:layout_marginRight="3px" android:text="Left Side" > </TextView> <TextSwitcher android:id="@+id/TextSwitcherDetails" android:inAnimation="@anim/push_up_in" android:outAnimation="@anim/push_up_out" android:layout_weight="1" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_gravity="right" android:layout_marginLeft="3px" android:layout_marginRight="0px" > <TextView android:id="@+id/TextViewDetails1" android:textSize="18px" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" android:layout_gravity="right" android:singleLine="true" android:ellipsize="marquee" android:marqueeRepeatLimit="marquee_forever" android:scrollHorizontally="true" android:focusable="true" android:focusableInTouchMode="true" android:fadingEdge="none" android:text="Right Side 1" > </TextView> <TextView android:id="@+id/TextViewDetails2" android:textSize="18px" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" android:layout_gravity="right" android:singleLine="true" android:ellipsize="marquee" android:marqueeRepeatLimit="marquee_forever" android:scrollHorizontally="true" android:focusable="true" android:focusableInTouchMode="true" android:fadingEdge="none" android:text="Right Side 2 - This is a really long text this is long and fun and fun and long" > </TextView> </TextSwitcher> </LinearLayout> And the RelativeLayout style... <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/LinearLayoutStatusBar" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_margin="2px" android:background="#555555" > <TextView android:id="@+id/TextViewTimer" android:textSize="18px" android:textColor="#FFFFFF" android:layout_gravity="left" android:layout_weight="0" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_marginLeft="0px" android:layout_marginRight="3px" android:layout_alignParentLeft="true" android:text="Left Side" > </TextView> <TextSwitcher android:id="@+id/TextSwitcherDetails" android:inAnimation="@anim/push_up_in" android:outAnimation="@anim/push_up_out" android:layout_weight="1" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_marginLeft="3px" android:layout_marginRight="0px" android:layout_toRightOf="@+id/TextViewTimer" android:layout_alignParentRight="true" android:fadingEdge="none" android:fadingEdgeLength="0px" > <TextView android:id="@+id/TextViewDetails1" android:textSize="18px" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_gravity="right" android:singleLine="true" android:ellipsize="marquee" android:marqueeRepeatLimit="marquee_forever" android:scrollHorizontally="true" android:focusable="true" android:focusableInTouchMode="true" android:fadingEdge="none" android:fadingEdgeLength="0px" android:text="Right Side 1" > </TextView> <TextView android:id="@+id/TextViewDetails2" android:textSize="18px" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_gravity="right" android:singleLine="true" android:ellipsize="marquee" android:marqueeRepeatLimit="marquee_forever" android:scrollHorizontally="true" android:focusable="true" android:focusableInTouchMode="true" android:fadingEdge="none" android:fadingEdgeLength="0px" android:text="Right Side 2 - This is a really long text this is long and fun and fun and long" > </TextView> </TextSwitcher> </RelativeLayout> So how do I get that text on the right side to right-align. • Android: Using linear gradient as background looks banded

- by user329692
Hi All! I'm trying to apply a linear gradient to my ListView. This is the content of my drawable xml: <shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> <gradient android:startColor="#3A3C39" android:endColor="#181818" android:angle="270" /> <corners android:radius="0dp" /> </shape> So I apply it to my ListView with: android:background="@drawable/shape_background_grey" It works but it looks very "banded" on emulator and on a real device too. Is there any way to reduce this "behaviour"?

• Parsing RSS2.0 feeds using Pull Parser on Android

- by Samuh
I am trying to parse a RSS2.0 feed, obtained from a remote server, on my Android device using XML Pull Parser. // get a parser instance and set input,encoding XmlPullParser parser = Xml.newPullParser(); parser.setInput(getInputStream(), null); I am getting invalid token exceptions: Error parsing document. (position:line -1, column -1) caused by: org.apache.harmony.xml.ExpatParser$ParseException: At line 158, column 25: not well-formed (invalid token) Strangely, when I download the feed XML on the device, bundle it inside the raw folder and then run the same code. Everything works fine. What could be the problem here? How do I validate the XML before I parse it on device? Thanks.

• Using AES encryption in .NET - CryptographicException saying the padding is invalid and cannot be removed

- by Jake Petroules
I wrote some AES encryption code in C# and I am having trouble getting it to encrypt and decrypt properly. If I enter "test" as the passphrase and "This data must be kept secret from everyone!" I receive the following exception: System.Security.Cryptography.CryptographicException: Padding is invalid and cannot be removed. at System.Security.Cryptography.RijndaelManagedTransform.DecryptData(Byte[] inputBuffer, Int32 inputOffset, Int32 inputCount, Byte[]& outputBuffer, Int32 outputOffset, PaddingMode paddingMode, Boolean fLast) at System.Security.Cryptography.RijndaelManagedTransform.TransformFinalBlock(Byte[] inputBuffer, Int32 inputOffset, Int32 inputCount) at System.Security.Cryptography.CryptoStream.FlushFinalBlock() at System.Security.Cryptography.CryptoStream.Dispose(Boolean disposing) at System.IO.Stream.Close() at System.IO.Stream.Dispose() ... And if I enter something less than 16 characters I get no output. I believe I need some special handling in the encryption since AES is a block cipher, but I'm not sure exactly what that is, and I wasn't able to find any examples on the web showing how. Here is my code: using System; using System.IO; using System.Security.Cryptography; using System.Text; public static class DatabaseCrypto { public static EncryptedData Encrypt(string password, string data) { return DatabaseCrypto.Transform(true, password, data, null, null) as EncryptedData; } public static string Decrypt(string password, EncryptedData data) { return DatabaseCrypto.Transform(false, password, data.DataString, data.SaltString, data.MACString) as string; } private static object Transform(bool encrypt, string password, string data, string saltString, string macString) { using (AesManaged aes = new AesManaged()) { aes.Mode = CipherMode.CBC; aes.Padding = PaddingMode.PKCS7; int key_len = aes.KeySize / 8; int iv_len = aes.BlockSize / 8; const int salt_size = 8; const int iterations = 8192; byte[] salt = encrypt ? new Rfc2898DeriveBytes(string.Empty, salt_size).Salt : Convert.FromBase64String(saltString); byte[] bc_key = new Rfc2898DeriveBytes("BLK" + password, salt, iterations).GetBytes(key_len); byte[] iv = new Rfc2898DeriveBytes("IV" + password, salt, iterations).GetBytes(iv_len); byte[] mac_key = new Rfc2898DeriveBytes("MAC" + password, salt, iterations).GetBytes(16); aes.Key = bc_key; aes.IV = iv; byte[] rawData = encrypt ? CryptoStreamMode.Write : CryptoStreamMode.Read)) { if (encrypt) { cryptoStream.Write(rawData, 0, rawData.Length); return new EncryptedData(salt, mac_key, memoryStream.ToArray()); } else { byte[] originalData = new byte[rawData.Length]; int count = cryptoStream.Read(originalData, 0, originalData.Length); return Encoding.UTF8.GetString(originalData, 0, count); } } } } } public class EncryptedData { public EncryptedData() { } public EncryptedData(byte[] salt, byte[] mac, byte[] data) { this.Salt = salt; this.MAC = mac; this.Data = data; } public EncryptedData(string salt, string mac, string data) { this.SaltString = salt; this.MACString = mac; this.DataString = data; } public byte[] Salt { get; set; } public string SaltString { get { return Convert.ToBase64String(this.Salt); } set { this.Salt = Convert.FromBase64String(value); } } public byte[] MAC { get; set; } public string MACString { get { return Convert.ToBase64String(this.MAC); } set { this.MAC = Convert.FromBase64String(value); } } public byte[] Data { get; set; } public string DataString { get { return Convert.ToBase64String(this.Data); } set { this.Data = Convert.FromBase64String(value); } } } static void ReadTest() { Console.WriteLine("Enter password: "); string password = Console.ReadLine(); using (StreamReader reader = new StreamReader("aes.cs.txt")) { EncryptedData enc = new EncryptedData(); enc.SaltString = reader.ReadLine(); enc.MACString = reader.ReadLine(); enc.DataString = reader.ReadLine(); Console.WriteLine("The decrypted data was: " + DatabaseCrypto.Decrypt(password, enc)); } } static void WriteTest() { Console.WriteLine("Enter data: "); string data = Console.ReadLine(); Console.WriteLine("Enter password: "); string password = Console.ReadLine(); EncryptedData enc = DatabaseCrypto.Encrypt(password, data); using (StreamWriter stream = new StreamWriter("aes.cs.txt")) { stream.WriteLine(enc.SaltString); stream.WriteLine(enc.MACString); stream.WriteLine(enc.DataString); Console.WriteLine("The encrypted data was: " + enc.DataString); } }

• Android ListView style

- by xger86x
Hi, I have a question about list views. I hope someone knows the solution, because I have been trying to solve this problem all weekend. I have a custom list view in which every row have a custom .xml (item_row.xml) with a set color background for the row item. <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="70dip" android:orientation="vertical" android:background="@drawable/list_bg"> The problem is that when I try to make a selector for the list. I want two things: When the item is focused, the typical orange rectangle should appear over it, and the same When the item is pressed. I have proved with a selector and a custom style but all I get is or the selector doesn't appear or the selector covering the item so I can't see it. If anyone could help me with finding the right code I would be very grateful. Thanks

• C#: Multiline TextBox with TextBox.WordWrap Displaying Long Base64 String

- by Peter Lee
Hi, Happy New Year! I have a textbox to display a very long Base64 string. The TextBox.Multline = true and TextBox.WordWrap = true. The issue is caused by the auto-word-boundary detection of the TextBox itself. The Base64 string has '+' as one of the 64 characters for Base64 encoding. Therefore, the TextBox will wrap it up at the '+' character, which is not what I want (because the use might think there is a newline character around the '+' character). I just want my Base64 string displayed in Mulitline-mode in TextBox, but no word boundary detection, that is, if the TextBox.Width can only contain 80 characters, then each line should have exact 80 characters except the last line. I'm not sure if I made myself clear. Thanks. Peter

Here are my web.xml and jetty-web.xml files in my WEB-INF directory. jetty-web.xml: <Configure class="org.mortbay.jetty.webapp.WebAppContext"> <New id="mysql" class="org.mortbay.jetty.plus.naming.Resource"> <Arg>jdbc/mysql</Arg> <Arg> <New class="com.mchange.v2.c3p0.ComboPooledDataSource"> <Set name="Url">jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/mysql</Set> <Set name="User">user</Set> <Set name="Password">pw</Set> </New> </Arg> </New> </Configure> web.xml: <web-app>
Caucho Technology's PHP Implementation
<resource-ref>
My DataSource Reference
<res-ref-name>jdbc/mysql</res-ref-name> <res-type>javax.sql.DataSource</res-type> <res-auth>Container</res-auth> </resource-ref> <servlet> <servlet-name>Quercus Servlet</servlet-name> <servlet-class>com.caucho.quercus.servlet.QuercusServlet</servlet-class> <init-param> <param-name>script-encoding</param-name> <param-value>UTF-8</param-value> </init-param> <init-param> <param-name>database</param-name> <param-value>jdbc/mysql</param-value> </init-param> <init-param> <param-name>ini-file</param-name> <param-value>WEB-INF/php.ini</param-value> </init-param> </servlet> <servlet-mapping> <servlet-name>Quercus Servlet</servlet-name> <url-pattern>*.php</url-pattern> </servlet-mapping> <welcome-file-list> <welcome-file>index.php</welcome-file> </welcome-file-list> </web-app> I'm guessing that I'm missing a few jars or something. Currently I have placed the following jars in my WEB-INF/lib directory: c3p0-0.9.1.2.jar commons-dbcp-1.4.jar commons-pool-1.5.4.jar mysql-connector-java-5.1.12-bin.jar I have also tried to put these jars in JETTY-HOME/lib/ext, but to no avail... Someone please tell me what is wrong with my configuration. I'm sick of digging through Jetty's crappy documentation.

- by Simon
I'd like to use embedded resources in my XSLT file, but while invoking 'document(...)' C# complains that "Error during loading document ..." I'd like to use defined resources in XSLT file and get them by this: "document('')//my:resources/"... How can i do that?? ex xsl: <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:my="xslt-gruper-v1.2.xsl" exclude-result-prefixes="my"> tryb <xsl:variable name="res" select="document('')/*/my:resources/("/> How can i get access to such structure without exceptions in C#? I'll add that during static transform via ex. Opera everything works fine.

• Android AppWidget TextView: How to set background color at run time

- by Amit
I am trying to create an AppWidget, in which the background color of a TextView changes at random at specified periodic interval. The TextView is defined in layout xml file as <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/widget" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:orientation="vertical" > <TextView android:id="@+id/message" android:background="#ff99ff" android:text="Hello Widget" /> </LinearLayout> In update method, i have loaded the layout as RemoteViews remoteView=new RemoteViews(context.getPackageName(),R.layout.widget_message); To change the background of TextView i used the following statement remoteView.setInt(R.id.message, "setBackgroundResource", R.color.col_1); But i am getting a widget saying problem loading widget. If i remove the above line everything works fine. LogCat says: updateAppWidget couldn't find any view, using error view android.widget.RemoteViews$ActionException: view: android.widget.TextView can't use method with RemoteViews: setBackgroundResource(int)

• Google Reader API HTTP Response parsing (Objective C)

- by JustinXXVII
Using the API, trying to get items in a specific feed returns this: {“direction”:”ltr”,”id”:”feed/http://arstechnica.com/index.rssx”,”title”:”Ars Technica”,”description”:”The Art of Technology”,”self”:
http://www.google.com/reader/api/0/stream/contents/feed/http://arstechnica.com/index.rssx?ot=1273193172856169&r=n&xt=user/-/state/com.google/read&n=4&ck=1273193873&client=iPadReader"}],”alternate”:
http://arstechnica.com/index.php
text/html"}],”updated”:1273193873,”items”:[]} They look like key/value pairs but it’s plain text with UTF8 String encoding and won’t encode into a dictionary. I’m using Objective-C and I’m not sure where to go from here. So far I’ve been able to parse the XML response for unread items, but parsing the plain-text doesn’t look feasible. What is your practice?

• Using FOP to generate french PDF document, having problem with œ character.

- by Gautham
I am using iso-8859-15 encoding both in xml data and in the xslt style sheet. But when I try convert XML doc to FO document 'œ' does'nt show up it shows up as '?' Below is the example of the problem I am facing. The xml data is as follows: Nous sommes sous l'emprise du Divin cœur de Celui que mon fils vénère par-dessus in the fo file the same line is generated as : --------Nous sommes sous l'emprise du Divin c?ur de Celui que mon fils vénère par-dessus As you see all the other accents are getting generated fine except for the 'œ'character. Any help is greatly appreciated. This one issue is holding up a project.

• XML/XSD intellisense not working in Visual Studio 2010

- by Jason
I am working on xml and xsd files in VS 2010 but intellisense isn't working. Intellisense is working for the same files in VS 2008, however. When I type '<xs:' options like "attribute", "complexType", "simpleType", or "element" do not appear. Is there some difference between the VS 2008 and VS 2010 that I'm missing? I add an xsd file to my solution. All the proper namespaces are generated automatically as such: <xs:schema id="XMLSchema2" targetNamespace="http://tempuri.org/XMLSchema2.xsd" elementFormDefault="qualified" xmlns="http://tempuri.org/XMLSchema2.xsd" xmlns:mstns="http://tempuri.org/XMLSchema2.xsd" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> </xs:schema> The "xsdschema.xsd" is in the "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\xml\Schemas" directory. There is a check mark in the "Use" column in the XML Schemas dialog box.

• uploadify and absolute filepaths ?

- by Haroldo
can anyone with experience of the plugin see anything I'm doing wrong? var SITE_ROOT = 'http://localhost/hf_latest_desktop/'; $("#uploadify").uploadify({ 'uploader' : SITE_ROOT+'st_wd_assets/js/uploadify/scripts/uploadify.swf', 'script' : SITE_ROOT+'st_wd_assets/js/uploadify/scripts/uploadify.php', 'cancelImg' : SITE_ROOT+'st_wd_assets/js/uploadify/cancel.png', 'folder' : SITE_ROOT+'res/img/temp', 'auto' : true, 'multi' : false, 'buttonImg' : SITE_ROOT+'st_wd_assets/img/uploadify-button.png' }); it loads in the swf fine (can see it in firebug), however the upload button does not show and there is no functionality? edit: it looks like it could be something to do with it encoding the " : " entity in the absolute paths for example examining the .swf it the attributed are encoded ie: &buttonImg=http%3A//localhost/hf_latest_desktop/st_wd_assets/img/uploadify-button.png
