jQuery slideDown() not animating (jquery-rails 3.0.4; jquery-ui-rails (4.0.5)

I am following along in the latest Agile Web Development with Rails 4 book. In Chapter 11 (AJAX), the book instructs us to use the following code in the "create.js.erb" file: if ($('#cart tr').length == 1) { $('#cart').show('blind', 1000); } This code causes the #cart div to jump down without any content. After 1 second it appears. There is no sliding effect. I tried using slideDown(); as well, but the div just appears immediately. Out of curiosity, I tried slideUp(); when the div was visible. Voila. The div slid up. This appears to be a jQuery bug and wondered if anyone else has experienced this, or has any suggestions for me. Thanks.

Getting imagename and make link from <img> with jQuery

With jQuery, I want to make all images under a specific path on a site clickable and showing a big image using Fancybox, which is a lighbox variant plugin for jQuery. My small images are located under "images/products/small", the big ones under "images/products/big" and the imagename is always the same The page is showing the image with the following code: <img src="images/products/small/hat.jpg" alt="Nice hat"> What i want is some jQuery script that makes this into: <a href="images/products/big/hat.jpg" class="fancybox"><img src="images/products/small/hat.jpg" alt="Nice hat"></a> Maybe the part with setting class on the link tag can be skipped and just activate fancybox on the element directly with $(elm).fancybox(); I was looking around a bit and it looks like the jQuery functions "attr" and "wrap" might be useful, but with my currently limited jQuery skills I can't really connect the dots.

passing array fields to jquery ajax

I have a form I am submitting via jquery ajax. Early in the form, I have this field: <select name="inquirymodule[]" id="inquirymodule"> The user can add as many as they like, and all the selects go into the inquirymodule[] array. Trying to do the same thing with a date, like this: <input class="formInput" type="text" id="startBreak0" name='startbreak[]' /> adding startbreak: jQuery("select[name='startbreak[]']").serialize() to the ajax call. It doesn't work, I cannot see why. Suggestions?

Hello there, I'm working with a page that has several links that contain the same href text, and I need to select the second anchor element on the page that contains said href text. Here's a simplified version of the link structure of the page: <a href="same/link/to/stuff/">same link</a> <a href="same/link/to/stuff/">same link</a> How do I fashion my selector so that it only selects the second anchor in the above example? Currently I'm trying: $('a[href=same/link/to/stuff/] :eq(1)') but it is not working. Thanks!!

Hi I am using jquery 1.3.2 and asp.net mvc 1.0. Originally I was using some other rich html editor but I ran into one major problem when a user pasted in text from open office or MS office it would bring along tons of styling junk. If a user like wrote one sentence what was like 25 characters and pasted that into my current html editor the count would 25,000 characters and I don't want to store all that junk( I can't afford to). So tinyMCE seems to not have this problem. However I got some questions. It seems if you want to use for commercial use(what my site is but currently is not making very much at this time) you need to get a commercial license. However it does not say if it is free or if it will cost money. I am assuming it means that you will have to pay but I would like to confirm this. So do you have to pay for a license to use tinyMCe if your using it for commercial use? (Yes/ No) ------------------ Answer the following questions if you said "no" to the first question ----------- So would I use the jQuery package then or is it better to use the other versions? What is this .net compressor zip for? Do I need it? I only want a few of the buttons(like bold,font size) can I remove the other buttons? It seems to display a word count. Hover/Fadeto/Toggle Multiple Class Changing

So my problem is rather simple and complex at the same time. I am trying to create links that fade in when you mouseover them and fade out when you mouseout of them. At the same time that you are going over them I would like a pic to slide from the left. This is the easy part, I have every thing working. The image fades and another image slides. I did this by using a hover, fadeto, and toggle("slide"). I would like to do this in a table format with multiple images being able to be scrolled over and sliding images out. The problem is that I am calling my sliding image to a class and when I hover over the letters both images slide out. Does anybody have a solution for this? jqGrid dynamic select option

I'm creating a jqgrid with drop down columns and I'm using cell editing. I need the options of the drop down columns to change dynamically and I've tried implementing this by setting the column to be: { name: "AccountLookup", index: "AccountLookup", width: 90, editable: true, resizable: true, edittype: "select", formatter: "select" }, and then in the beforeCellEdit event I have: beforeEditCell: function(id, name, val, iRow, iCol) { if(name=='AccountLookup') { var listdata = GetLookupValues(id, name); if (listdata == null) listdata = "1:1"; jQuery("#grid").setColProp(name, { editoptions: { value: listdata.toString()} }) } }, GetLookupValues just returns a string in the format "1:One;2:Two" etc. That works fine however the options are populated one click behind - ie i click on AccountID in row 1, and the dropdown is empty, however when I then click on AccountID in row 3 the options I set in the row 1 click are shown in the row 3 click. And so on. So always one click behind. Is there another way of achieving what I need? Bacially the dropdown options displayed are always changing and I need to load them as user enters the cell for editing. Perhaps I can somehow get at the select control in the beforeEditCell event and manually enter its values instead of using the setColProp call? If so could I get an example of doing that please? Another thing - if the dropdown is empty and a user doesn't cancel the cell edit, the grid script throws an error. I'm using clientarray editing if that makes a difference. Greasemonkey @require jQuery not working "Component not available"

JQuery Ajax error handling, show custom exception messages

Hey Folks, I am wondering if there is some way where I can show custom exception messages as an alert in my Jquery ajax error message. jQuery - .Ready fires on div tag not in the page

Dear all, I have implemented below function in a separate .js script file which I load in my main page (Asp.net mvc). The call back to server is rather costly but ok if specifically requested on the sub-page / content page on which my div tag needs to be filled. My problem is that the code runs on every page, including pages where the div tag is not present. How can I remedy my code? Struts2 + jQuery Autocompletion (Solved, with DOJO :) )

I used the jQuery autocompletion for my Struts2 application. Pratically, my action made a list of strings that jQuery use. This is the script: $().ready(function() { $("#tag").autocomplete("/myAction/Action", { multiple : true, autoFill : true, minChars:1 }); }); During typing appear the box with the suggestions. The problem is that the box render another value, exactly render the code of my JSP ( links to CSS for the autocomplete plug-in). How can I solve this? jquery slideToggle() and unknown height?

Hello! So the problem i am having is that i dont know the height for those hidden elements, because it depends on how much text there is, so when i click on + and show them, animation is 'jumping'. One workaround that i found is to put fixed height and overflow:hidden to those hidden elements. You can see how much smoother animation is running in top left block(the one with 'Vesti iz sveta crtanog filma' at the top). All other blocks dont have fixed height, and animation there is 'jumping'. Atm that fixed height in top left block is 30px, but ofc some elements require more height and some require less, so that is not a good solution... :) So how to stop this animation from 'jumping' when there is no fixed height?

So I am trying to use jQuery to insert data from an ajax call. I actually use the jquery.form plugin, and have the ajax form submitted with a dataType: 'script'. The response is a jquery expression which contains a <%= javascript_escape(render ...) %> erb tag (similar to what the railscasts episode 136 instructs to do). However the end result is that the full text of the render is inserted as if that was the content to be inserted into the page, as text, not as dom elements. Could the fact that the render had some newlines at the beginning be the cause? Dom text: "\n \n <li>....</li>" I also tried having jQuery just read the response as a script and execute it, and used the prototype-based rjs stuff, same effect, the text is inserted into the dom. Are there any reasons why such a behavior would be experienced? A bit of clarification: My response.js.erb is jQuery("#content").append("<%= escape_javascript(render(:partial => "widgets")) %>"); jQuery("#information").text("Finally, something happened!"); The full text inside the append() call is inserted as text into #content.

Is jQuery always the answer?

I've come across a couple questions, such as this one, and I really have to wonder why "Use jQuery" seems to be the answer when somebody asks how to do something in JavaScript. I understand that jQuery can save you a lot of time, and can help you out a lot, especially when you are doing a lot of fancy JavaScript in your site. However, in instances like this, and in many other instances, it seems like it's just jumping around the problem instead of answering the question. I also feel like this builds too much dependency into libraries. I've seen way too many developers that simply rely too much on libraries, and if they encounter a situation where they didn't have the library, they would be completely unable to function. I feel like there are already enough developers who don't know JavaScript, without just telling everybody to not learn JavaScript, and use jQuery. So, just to reiterate the question. Do you think there's too much of a tendency to use jQuery, for small pieces of JavaScript, when most of the functionality of jQuery isn't being used. Should developers be fluent in the use of bare JavaScript so they don't get too dependent on using libraries? [Additional related conversation topic] Does the existence of jQuery give too much slack to web browser developers who write the JavaScript engines? If we just have workarounds to cover all the inconsistencies in JavaScript, what pressure is there on browser makers to ensure that their JavaScript library works as it should. I feel like this extrapolates the same problem discussed in SO Podcast #36 of "be conservative in what you send, liberal in what you accept". By being so liberal with bad JavaScript engines, and using a common library to work around the flaws, we are promoting their use, and extending the problem.

'JQuery' is undefined

I am working on a ASP.net project created with local file system settings. I am using MVC and Jquery. Jquery is working fine when I run the application in debug mode i.e. in ASP.net Development server. I am trying to host the application in IIS 7. In hosted mode, it does not recognize Jquery and gives scripting error 'Jquery is undefined'. The locations of the script files is unchanged in both modes. Can anybody have any clue what can be the reason and how to solve this. jsTree: How to create a new ID for the new added node?

Hi, I can normally get the ID of the default tree nodes but my problem is onCreate then jsTree will add a new node but it doesn't have an ID. My question is how can I add an ID to the newly created tree node? What I'm thinking to do is adding the ID HTML attribute to the newly created tree node but how? I need to get the ID of all of the nodes because it will serve as a reference for the node's respective div storage. Modify jkpanel to load internal content instead of external content
