  • Single dimension peak fitting

    I have a single dimensional array of floating point values (c# doubles FYI) and I need to find the "peak" of the values ... as if graphed. I can't just take the highest value, as the peak is actually a plateau that has small fluctuations. This plateau is in the middle of a bunch of noise. I'm looking find a solution that would give me the center of this plateau. An example array might look like this: 1,2,1,1,2,1,3,2,4,4,4,5,6,8,8,8,8,7,8,7,9,7,5,4,4,3,3,2,2,1,1,1,1,1,2,1,1,1,1 where the peak is somewhere in the bolded section. Any ideas?

  • Why does bold monoface shift vertically on Windows?

    In Firefox 3.6, IE7 and Opera 10 on Windows, this HTML has an odd behavior: <html><head></head> <style> span { font-family: monospace; background-color: green; } span.b { font-weight: bold; } </style> <body> <span>Text</span><span class="b">Text</span><span>Text</span> </body> </html> The bold span in the middle is shifted down by one pixel. That doesn't happen for other fonts. Why is that? How can I fix it?

    I'm helping an artist maintain her website and have inherited some pretty outdated code. Have moved lots of redundant common code to include files and am now working on moving from inline styles to more CSS-driven styles. For the gallery pages, e.g. http://artistsatlaketahoe.com/abstract.html, a lot of inline styling is used to force the current layout. My preference would be to replace this entirely with CSS that presents the following table-like layout within the "content" div: [image] [image descriptives and purchase button] [image] [image descriptives and purchase button] [image] [image descriptives and purchase button] I'd like to middle-align the image descriptives & purchase button relative to the image if possible. And then apply some padding above and below each row to stop using tags for vertical spacing. Any ideas how to create a div that I can use to get this kind of layout? Thanks!

  • Where to open sessions in a Spring/Hibernate stack?

    I'm trying to figure out a good design for a Spring/Hibernate app. When creating such an app, it appears like there are a handful of major decisions. The first major decision seems to be where to put the session/transaction boundary. It seems like I have 3 major choices: as a filter before controllers are even invoked, immediately below the controllers at the service call level, and stuffed way below the business level in repository calls. It seems to me like the right call is the middle path, but I'm not sure. I don't want my transactions open too long, but at the same time, I don't want to constantly worry about detached objects and lazy loading in the business logic. Still, there are some downsides. For instance, it makes it hard for the business logic to make a remote call without holding up a transaction for a few seconds. I wonder if there's a better way?

    Hi, I need to have an image at the top-center of a web page in css. Now, Im just using the background-image: in css but this puts it at the middle of the page. Here's my code: body { background-image: url("theimageurlgoeshere"); //The image is 842 x 508 background-attachment:fixed; background-position: center top; background-repeat: no-repeat; } Also, Changing the background-position: seems to have no effect on the outcome of the site. Any help is appreciated.

    Hey there, I am planning to develop an iPhone application heavily relying on sqlite DB , from different links I have gone through this seems to be a great tool and has some really good support. As my app is still in the planning process I would like to ask if there are any Issues with SQLlite database ? from memory management to Queries and data sizes and multiple access etc; Please share your experience using SQLite DB in iPhone and what problems did you face?     Mhh, kinda hard to explain with my poor english ;) So, lets say I have an image, doesnt matter what kind of (gif, jpg, png) with 200x200 pixel size (total area 40000 pixels) This image have a background, that can be trasparent, or every color (but i know the background-color in advance). Lets say that in the middle of this image, there is a picture (for keep the example simple lets suppose is a square drawn), of 100x100 pixels (total area 10000 pixels). I need to know the area percentage that the small square fill inside the image. So, in i know the full image size and the background-color, there is a way in php/python to scan the image and retrieve that (in short, counting the pixel that are different from the given background)? In the above example, the result should be 25%

  • Ruby on Rails - where to write business logic while processing a request? (newbie)

    I am learning Ruby on Rails. I made a simple link like this: <%= link_to "Alex Link", alexes_path(@alex) %> then I routed it in routes.rb like this: resources :alexes get "home/index" then I am a bit unclear, but I think it goes to this part of the controller: def index #@alexes = Alex.all respond_to do |format| format.html # index.html.erb format.json { render json: @alexes } end end Am I correct that it goes to this part of the controller? Then nothing much happens and it goes to the next page which is index.html.rb under views\alexes So what I am wondering is - if I needed to do some business logic, would I write that in the controller snippet? Where inside the snippet? An example would be nice to take a look. Also, I would like to connect to a MongoDb database. Would I also write that in the middle of the controller? Thanks!

    Hi, I have got some strings to be matched via RegEx. We have a java application which reads the regex from a config file and takes two groups of strings, number of which are specified in the same config. E.g. CustomAction.523274ca945f.dialogLabel=Executing Custom Code... will be matched with (?m)^(?!#)\s*(\S*)\s*=\s*(\S*.*) What I need is to pick the first group "CustomAction.523274ca945f.dialogLabel" and exclude the random string in the middle so I end up with something like "CustomAction.dialogLabel" or "CustomAction..dialogLabel" well any other combination but the random string.     I have a GUI which resembles an interpreter. It allows the user to write a script in Jython (implementation of Python in Java) and run it whenever he wants. Apart from that, I also wish to allow the user to instantly terminate the run whenever he wants. Thing is, I don't really know how to do it. The script is being run on a different Thread, but I don't know of any secure way to stop/interrupt/terminate a thread in the middle of its run, let alone not knowing what is being run by the thread/script (it could be a simple task or maybe some sort of a heavy SQL query against a DB, and a DB is something which requires careful resource handling). How can I instantly terminate such run on demand?

  • Changing UINavigationBar font in Swift

    I have a UINavigationBar with a title in the middle. I have added a custom font ("Comic_Andy.ttf") to my app (I have checked info.plist to make sure it's listed, and I have checked the Copy Bundle Resources to make sure it has been added), and I would like the title of the UINavigationBar to be displayed in that font. From what I can gather it seems as though I'm supposed to use this in my ViewController: myNavigationBar.titleTextAttributes = [NSFontAttributeName: UIFont(name: "Comic_Andy", size: 22)] I placed that method in the viewDidLoad function of the ViewController. I have also tried this in the didFinishLaunchingWithOptions function of the AppDelegate: UINavigationBar.appearance().titleTextAttributes = [NSFontAttributeName: UIFont(name: "Comic_Andy", size: 22)] I am programming in Swift, in XCode 6 Beta 6. Many resources regarding this task have mentioned using a method called setTitleTextAttributes, which is nowhere to be seen. I can't figure it out for the life of me - I've probably spent close to 3 hours on it by now - I have checked every StackOverflow answer, every website, so please do not mark this as a duplicate.   • DataGridCheckBoxColumn immediate binding

    Hi. I'm using the WPF Toolkit Datagrid and have one column which is a DataGridCheckBoxColumn bound to a bool property on my ViewModel. My problem is that I wan't the property to get it's value updated immediately when the user checks or unchecks the checkbox. Now you have to navigate away from the cell in order to have the property updated. It's a checkbox. It can't be in the middle of editing like a textbox can... Any help would be appreciated. /J

    I have a form in a large box, to be filled in by the user with up to 2500 characters. Currently, the cursor starts in the vertical center of the box and I would like: a) The cursor to start at the top left of the field instead of the middle left, so that there is no whitespace above the user's entered text. or b) Somehow enabling a field that expands to fit its text to expand as the text is being entered. As far as I can tell, text fields set to expand to fit the text inside only expand once the user has taken their cursor off the field. Thanks for your help!

  • Is there a list of language only character regions for UTF-8 somewhere?

    I'm trying to analyze some UTF-8 encoded documents in a way that recognizes different language characters. For my approach to work I need to ignore non-language characters, such as control characters, mathematical symbols etc. Just trying to dissect the basic Latin section of the UTF standard has resulted in multiple regions, with characters like the division symbol being right in the middle of a range of valid Latin characters. Is there a list somewhere that identifies these regions? Or better yet, a Regex that defines the regions or something in C# that can identify the different characters?

    Hi, I have a theoretical question about the .net framework. As I see it Microsoft gave us bunch of technologies for different layers. We have the ADO.NET and with the more improved Entity Framework for Data Access. And ASP.NET for WEB UI. And even WCF for Facade and SOA. But what in the middle, what do we have for the Business Layer? Is it just Referenced DLLs? How do we deal with the Application Pulling this days? I remember using COM+ 10 yeas ago because the IIS couldn't handle the pressure. Is Spring.Net is the best option available for injection? Thanks, Ronny

  • Wanting to edit a google maps info bubble

    I have to edit an info bubble on a website to help someone out. The site is already online and i dont have the ftp login details so i cant download the files and use them locally to test it. So im having some issues with inserting a logo on the top of the bubble, like a header. Im also having problems with the code needed to add 'to here' and 'from here' directions at the bottom of the bubble. Everything else is plain text in the middle of these 2 objects, so thats easy. They're like those default properties from the Windows COM days of yore, where you could type something like val = obj(arguments) and it would be interpreted as val = obj.defaultMethod(arguments) I just found out JavaScript has the same thing: the default method of a RegExp object appears to be 'exec', as in /(\w{4})/('yip jump man')[1] ==> jump This even works when the RegExp object is assigned to a variable, and even when it's created with the RegExp constructor, instead of /.../, which is good news to us fans of referential transparency. Where is this documented, and/or is it deprecated?

    Hello, I'm trying to make a small program that could intercept the open process of a file. The purpose is when an user double-click on a file in a given folder, windows would inform to the software, then it process that petition and return windows the data of the file. Maybe there would be another solution like monitoring Open messages and force Windows to wait while the program prepare the contents of the file. One application of this concept, could be to manage desencryption of a file in a transparent way to the user. In this context, the encrypted file would be on the disk and when the user open it ( with double-click on it or with some application such as notepad ), the background process would intercept that open event, desencrypt the file and give the contents of that file to the asking application. It's a little bit strange concept, it could be like "Man In The Middle" network concept, but with files instead of network packets. Thanks for reading.

    I am building a logging mechanism in a web application. Being a Windows man, I tend to give files with textual content the .txt ending. The suffix is automatically registered to be opened in a text editor in any Windows environment, and is just a nice convention. The app is going to be redistributed, and running mostly on Linux, though. The Linux convention for log files is .log. Is there any good reason on the Linux end, besides convention, why I should use .log? Any filters, real-life applications that could become relevant and that will work only with a .log suffix? Or can I merrily call it error_log.txt?

  • Linux and I/O completion ports?

    Using winsock, you can configure sockets or seperate I/O operations to "overlap". This means that calls to perform I/O are returned immediately, while the actual operations are completed asynchronously by separate worker threads. Winsock also provides "completion ports". From what I understand, a completion port acts as a multiplexer of handles (sockets). A handle can be demultiplexed if it isn't in the middle of an I/O operation, i.e. if all its I/O operations are completed. So, on to my question... does linux support completion ports or even asynchronous I/O for sockets?
