  • Using selection sort in java to sort floats

    - by user334046
    Hey, I need to sort an array list of class house by a float field in a certain range. This is my code for the selection sort: public ArrayList<House> sortPrice(ArrayList<House> x,float y, float z){ ArrayList<House> xcopy = new ArrayList<House>(); for(int i = 0; i<x.size(); i++){ if(x.get(i).myPriceIsLessThanOrEqualTo(z) && x.get(i).myPriceIsGreaterThanOrEqualTo(y)){ xcopy.add(x.get(i)); } } ArrayList<House> price= new ArrayList<House>(); while(xcopy.size()>0){ House min = xcopy.get(0); for(int i = 1; i < xcopy.size();i++){ House current = xcopy.get(i); if (current.myPriceIsGreaterThanOrEqualTo(min.getPrice())){ min = current; } } price.add(min); xcopy.remove(min); } return price; } Here is what the house class looks like: public class House { private int numBedRs; private int sqft; private float numBathRs; private float price; private static int idNumOfMostRecentHouse = 0; private int id; public House(int bed,int ft, float bath, float price){ sqft = ft; numBathRs = bath; numBedRs = bed; this.price = price; idNumOfMostRecentHouse++; id = idNumOfMostRecentHouse; } public boolean myPriceIsLessThanOrEqualTo(float y){ if(Math.abs(price - y)<0.000001){ return true; } return false; } public boolean myPriceIsGreaterThanOrEqualTo(float b){ if(Math.abs(b-price)>0.0000001){ return true; } return false; } When i call looking for houses in range 260000.50 to 300000 I only get houses that are at the top of the range even though I have a lower value at 270000. Can someone help?

  • How to handle EntityExistsException properly?

    - by Ivan Yatskevich
    I have two entities: Question and FavoritesCounter. FavoritesCounter should be created when the question is added to favorites for the first time. Consider a use case when two users tries to add a question to favorites simultaneously - this will cause EntityExistsException when entityManager.persist(counter) is called for the second user. But the code below doesn't work, because when EntityExistsException is thrown, container marks transaction as rollback only and attempt to return getFavoritesCounter(question) fails with javax.resource.ResourceException: Transaction is not active @Stateless public class FavoritesServiceBean implements FavoritesService { ... public void addToFavorites(Question question) { FavoritesCounter counter = getCounter(question); if (counter == null) { counter = createCounter(question); } //increase counter } private FavoritesCounter createCounter(Question question) { try { FavoritesCounter counter = new FavoritesCounter(); counter.setQuestion(question); entityManager.persist(counter); entityManager.flush(); return counter; } catch (EntityExistsException e) { return getFavoritesCounter(question); } } private FavoritesCounter getFavoritesCounter(Question question) { Query counterQuery = entityManager.createQery("SELECT counter FROM FavoritesCounter counter WHERE counter.question = :question"); counterQuery.setParameter("question", question); List<FavoritesCounter> result = counterQuery.getResultList(); if (result.isEmpty()) return null; return result.get(0); } } Question @Entity public class Question implements Serializable { @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.AUTO) private Long id; //getter and setter for id } FavoritesCounter @Entity public class FavoritesCounter implements Serializable { @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.AUTO) private Long id; @OneToOne @Column(unique = true) private Question question; //getter and setter } What is the best way to handle such a situation - return already created entity after EntityExistsException?

  • Problem with System.Diagnostics.Process RedirectStandardOutput to appear in Winforms Textbox in real

    - by Jonathan Websdale
    I'm having problems with the redirected output from a console application being presented in a Winforms textbox in real-time. The messages are being produced line by line however as soon as interaction with the Form is called for, nothing appears to be displayed. Following the many examples on both Stackoverflow and other forums, I can't seem to get the redirected output from the process to display in the textbox on the form until the process completes. By adding debug lines to the 'stringWriter_StringWritten' method and writing the redirected messages to the debug window I can see the messages arriving during the running of the process but these messages will not appear on the form's textbox until the process completes. Grateful for any advice on this. Here's an extract of the code public partial class RunExternalProcess : Form { private static int numberOutputLines = 0; private static MyStringWriter stringWriter; public RunExternalProcess() { InitializeComponent(); // Create the output message writter RunExternalProcess.stringWriter = new MyStringWriter(); stringWriter.StringWritten += new EventHandler(stringWriter_StringWritten); System.Diagnostics.ProcessStartInfo startInfo = new System.Diagnostics.ProcessStartInfo(); startInfo.FileName = "myCommandLineApp.exe"; startInfo.UseShellExecute = false; startInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = true; startInfo.CreateNoWindow = true; startInfo.WindowStyle = System.Diagnostics.ProcessWindowStyle.Hidden; using (var pProcess = new System.Diagnostics.Process()) { pProcess.StartInfo = startInfo; pProcess.OutputDataReceived += new System.Diagnostics.DataReceivedEventHandler(RunExternalProcess.Process_OutputDataReceived); pProcess.EnableRaisingEvents = true; try { pProcess.Start(); pProcess.BeginOutputReadLine(); pProcess.BeginErrorReadLine(); pProcess.WaitForExit(); } catch (Exception ex) { MessageBox.Show(ex.ToString()); } finally { pProcess.OutputDataReceived -= new System.Diagnostics.DataReceivedEventHandler(RunExternalProcess.Process_OutputDataReceived); } } } private static void Process_OutputDataReceived(object sender, System.Diagnostics.DataReceivedEventArgs e) { if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(e.Data)) { RunExternalProcess.OutputMessage(e.Data); } } private static void OutputMessage(string message) { RunExternalProcess.stringWriter.WriteLine("[" + RunExternalProcess.numberOutputLines++.ToString() + "] - " + message); } private void stringWriter_StringWritten(object sender, EventArgs e) { System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine(((MyStringWriter)sender).GetStringBuilder().ToString()); SetProgressTextBox(((MyStringWriter)sender).GetStringBuilder().ToString()); } private delegate void SetProgressTextBoxCallback(string text); private void SetProgressTextBox(string text) { if (this.ProgressTextBox.InvokeRequired) { SetProgressTextBoxCallback callback = new SetProgressTextBoxCallback(SetProgressTextBox); this.BeginInvoke(callback, new object[] { text }); } else { this.ProgressTextBox.Text = text; this.ProgressTextBox.Select(this.ProgressTextBox.Text.Length, 0); this.ProgressTextBox.ScrollToCaret(); } } } public class MyStringWriter : System.IO.StringWriter { // Define the event. public event EventHandler StringWritten; public MyStringWriter() : base() { } public MyStringWriter(StringBuilder sb) : base(sb) { } public MyStringWriter(StringBuilder sb, IFormatProvider formatProvider) : base(sb, formatProvider) { } public MyStringWriter(IFormatProvider formatProvider) : base(formatProvider) { } protected virtual void OnStringWritten() { if (StringWritten != null) { StringWritten(this, EventArgs.Empty); } } public override void Write(char value) { base.Write(value); this.OnStringWritten(); } public override void Write(char[] buffer, int index, int count) { base.Write(buffer, index, count); this.OnStringWritten(); } public override void Write(string value) { base.Write(value); this.OnStringWritten(); } }

  • hibernate criteria OneToMany, ManyToOne and List

    - by jrsokolow
    Hi, I have three entities ClassA, ClassB and ClassC. ClassA { ... @Id @GeneratedValue @Column(name = "a_id") private long id; ... @OneToMany(cascade={CascadeType.ALL}) @JoinColumn(name="a_id") private List<ClassB> bbb; ... } ClassB { ... @ManyToOne private ClassC ccc; ... } ClassC { ... private String name; ... } I want to filter by hibernate criteria ClassA by 'name' member of ClassC. So I want to obtain by hibernate criteria list of ClassA objects which have inside ClassC objects with specified name. Problem is that access to ClassC objects is through ClassB list. I tried something like this but it does not work: crit.createCriteria("bbb").createCriteria("ccc").add(Restrictions.ilike("name", name, MatchMode.ANYWHERE)); I will be grateful for help.

  • running multi threads in Java

    - by owca
    My task is to simulate activity of couple of persons. Each of them has few activities to perform in some random time: fast (0-5s), medium(5-10s), slow(10-20s) and very slow(20-30s). Each person performs its task independently in the same time. At the beginning of new task I should print it's random time, start the task and then after time passes show next task's time and start it. I've written run() function that counts time, but now it looks like threads are done one after another and not in the same time or maybe they're just printed in this way. public class People{ public static void main(String[] args){ Task tasksA[]={new Task("washing","fast"), new Task("reading","slow"), new Task("shopping","medium")}; Task tasksM[]={new Task("sleeping zzzzzzzzzz","very slow"), new Task("learning","slow"), new Task(" :** ","slow"), new Task("passing an exam","slow") }; Task tasksJ[]={new Task("listening music","medium"), new Task("doing nothing","slow"), new Task("walking","medium") }; BusyPerson friends[]={ new BusyPerson("Alice",tasksA), new BusyPerson("Mark",tasksM), new BusyPerson("John",tasksJ)}; System.out.println("STARTING....................."); for(BusyPerson f: friends) (new Thread(f)).start(); System.out.println("DONE........................."); } } class Task { private String task; private int time; private Task[]tasks; public Task(String t, String s){ task = t; Speed speed = new Speed(); time = speed.getSpeed(s); } public Task(Task[]tab){ Task[]table=new Task[tab.length]; for(int i=0; i < tab.length; i++){ table[i] = tab[i]; } this.tasks = table; } } class Speed { private static String[]hows = {"fast","medium","slow","very slow"}; private static int[]maxs = {5000, 10000, 20000, 30000}; public Speed(){ } public static int getSpeed( String speedString){ String s = speedString; int up_limit=0; int down_limit=0; int time=0; //get limits of time for(int i=0; i<hows.length; i++){ if(s.equals(hows[i])){ up_limit = maxs[i]; if(i>0){ down_limit = maxs[i-1]; } else{ down_limit = 0; } } } //get random time within the limits Random rand = new Random(); time = rand.nextInt(up_limit) + down_limit; return time; } } class BusyPerson implements Runnable { private String name; private Task[] person_tasks; private BusyPerson[]persons; public BusyPerson(String s, Task[]t){ name = s; person_tasks = t; } public BusyPerson(BusyPerson[]tab){ BusyPerson[]table=new BusyPerson[tab.length]; for(int i=0; i < tab.length; i++){ table[i] = tab[i]; } this.persons = table; } public void run() { int time = 0; double t1=0; for(Task t: person_tasks){ t1 = (double)t.time/1000; System.out.println(name+" is... "+t.task+" "+t.speed+ " ("+t1+" sec)"); while (time == t.time) { try { Thread.sleep(10); } catch(InterruptedException exc) { System.out.println("End of thread."); return; } time = time + 100; } } } } And my output : STARTING.....................   • Vsync in Flex/Flash/AS3?

    - by oshyshko
    I work on a 2D shooter game with lots of moving objects on the screen (bullets etc). I use BitmapData.copyPixels(...) to render entire screen to a buffer:BitmapData. Then I "copyPixels" from "buffer" to screen:BitmapData. The framerate is 60. private var bitmap:Bitmap = new Bitmap(); private var buffer:Bitmap = new Bitmap(); private function start():void { addChild(bitmap); } private function onEnterFrame():void { // render into "buffer" // copy "buffer" -> "bitmap" } The problem is that the sprites are tearing apart: some part of a sprite got shifted horizontally. It looks like a PC game with VSYNC turned off. Did anyone solve this problem? UPDATE: the question is not about performance, but about getting rid of screen tearing. [!] UPDATE: I've created another question and here you may try both implementations: using Flash way or BitmapData+copyPixels()

  • Customize Your WordPress Blog & Build an Audience

    - by Matthew Guay
    Want to quickly give your blog a fresh coat of paint and make it stand out from the pack?  Here’s how you can customize your WordPress blog and make it uniquely yours. WordPress offers many features that help you make your blog the best it can be.  Although it doesn’t offer as many customization features as full WordPress running on your own server, it still makes it easy to make your free blog as professional or cute as you like.  Here we’ll look at how you can customize features in your blog and build an audience. Personalize Your Blog WordPress make it easy to personalize your blog.  Most of the personalization options are available under the Appearance menu on the left.  Here we’ll look at how you can use most of these. Add New Theme WordPress is popular for the wide range of themes available for it.  While you cannot upload your own theme to your blog, you can choose from over 90 free themes currently available with more added all the time.  To change your theme, select the Themes page under Appearance. The Themes page will show random themes, but you can choose to view them in alphabetical order, by popularity, or how recently they were added.  Or, you can search for a theme by name or features. One neat way to find a theme that suites your needs is the Feature Filter.  Click the link on the right of the search button, and then select the options you want to make sure your theme has.  Click Apply Filters and WordPress will streamline your choices to themes that contain these features. Once you find a theme you like, click Preview under its name to see how your blog will look. This will open a popup that shows your blog with the new theme.  Click the Activate link in the top right corner of the popup if you want to keep this theme; otherwise, click the x in the top left corner to close the preview and continue your search for one you want.   Edit Current Theme Many of the themes on WordPress have customization options so you can make your blog stand out from others using the same theme.  The default theme Twenty Ten lets you customize both the header and background image, and many themes have similar options. To choose a new header image, select the Header page under Appearance.  Select one of the pre-installed images and click Save Changes, or upload your own image. If you upload an image larger than the size for the header, WordPress will let you crop it directly in the web interface.  Click Crop Header when you’ve selected the portion you want for the header of your blog. You can also customize your blog’s background from the Background page under Appearance.  You can upload an image for the background, or can enter a hex value of a color for a solid background.  If you’d rather visually choose a color, click Select a Color to open a color wheel that makes it easy to choose a nice color.  Click Save Changes when you’re done. Note: that all themes may not contain these customization options, but many are flexible.  You cannot edit the actual CSS of your theme on free WordPress blogs, but you you can purchase the Custom CSS Upgrade for $14.97/year to add this ability. Add Widgets With Extra Content Widgets are small addons for your blog, similar to Desktop Gadgets in Windows 7 or Dashboard widgets in Mac OS X.  You can add widgets to your blog to show recent Tweets, favorite Flickr pictures, popular articles, and more.  To add widgets to your blog, open the Widgets page under Appearance. You’ll see a variety of widgets available in the main white box.  Select one you want to add, and drag it to the widget area of your choice.  Different themes may offer different areas to place Widgets, such as the sidebar or footer. Most of the widgets offer configuration options.  Click the down arrow beside its name to edit it.  Set them up as you wish, and click Save on the bottom of the widget. Now we’ve got some nice dynamic content on our blog that’s automatically updated from the net. Choose Blog Extras By default, WordPress shows previews of websites when visitors hover over links on your blog, uses a special mobile theme when people visit from a mobile device, and shows related links to other blogs on the WordPress network at the end of your posts.  If you don’t like these features, you can disable them on the Extras page under Appearance. Build Your Audience Now that your blog is looking nice, we can make sure others will discover it.  WordPress makes it easy for you to make your site discoverable on search engines or social network, and even gives you the option to keep your site private if you’d prefer.  Open the Privacy page under Tools to change your site’s visibility.  By default, it will be indexed by search engines and be viewable to everyone.  You can also choose to leave your blog public but block search engines, or you can make it fully private. If you choose to make your blog private, you can enter up to 35 usernames of people you want to be able to see it.  Each private visitor must have a WordPress.com account so they can login.  If you need more than 35 private members, you can upgrade to allow unlimited private members for $29.97/year. Then, if you do want your site visible from search engines, one of the best ways to make sure your content is discovered by search engines is to register with their webmaster tools.  Once registered, you need to add your key to your site so the search engine will find and index it.  On the bottom of the Tools page, WordPress lets you enter your key from Google, Bing, and Yahoo! to make sure your site is discovered.  If you haven’t signed up with these tools yet, you can signup via the links on this page as well. Post Blog Updates to Social Networks Many people discover the sites they visit from friends and others via social networks.  WordPress makes it easy to automatically share links to your content on popular social networks.  To activate this feature, open the My Blogs page under Dashboard. Now, select the services you want to activate under the Publicize section.  This will automatically update Yahoo!, Twitter, and/or Facebook every time you publish a new post. You’ll have to authorize your connection with the social network.  With Twitter and Yahoo!, you can authorize them with only two clicks, but integrating with Facebook will take several steps.   If you’d rather share links yourself on social networks, you can get shortened URLs to your posts.  When you write a new post or edit an existing one, click the Get Shortlink button located underneath the post’s title. This will give you a small URL, usually 20 characters or less, that you can use to post on social networks such as Twitter.   This should help build your traffic, and if you want to see how many people are checking out your site, check out the stats on your Dashboard.  This shows a graph of how many people are visiting, and popular posts.  Click View All if you’d like more detailed stats including search engine terms that lead people to your blog. Conclusion Whether you’re looking to make a private blog for your group or publish a blog that’s read by millions around the world, WordPress is a great way to do it for free.  And with all of the personalization options, you can make your it memorable and exciting for your visitors. If you don’t have a blog, you can always signup for a free one from WordPress.com.  Also make sure to check out our article on how to Start Your Own Blog with WordPress. • how to organise my abstraction?

    - by DaveM
    I have a problem that I can't decide how to best handle, so I'm asking for advice. Please bear with me if my question isn't clear, it is possiblybecause I'm not sure exacly how to solve! I have a set of function that I have in a class. These function are a set of lowest commonality. To be able to run this I need to generate certain info. But this info can arrive with my class from one of 2 routes. I'll try to summarise my situation.... Lets say that I have a class as follows. public class onHoliday(){ private Object modeOfTravel; private Object location; public onHoliday(Object vehicle, Location GPScoords) { private boolean haveFun(){//function to have fun, needs 4 people }//end haveFun() } } Lets imagine I can get to my holiday either by car or by bike. my haveFun() function is dependant my type of vehicle. But only loosely. I have another function that determines my vehicle type, and extracts the required values. for example if I send a car I may get 4 people in one go, but if I send I bike I need at least 2 to get the required 4 I have currently 2 options: Overload my constructor, so as I can send either 2 bikes or a single car into it, then I can call one of 2 intermediate functions (to get the names of my 4 people for instance) before I haveFun() - this is what I am currently doing. split the 2 constructors into 2 separate classes, and repeat my haveFun() in a third class, that becomes an object of my 2 other classes. my problem with this is that my intermediate functions are all but a few lines of code, and I don't want to have them in a separate file! (I allways put classes in separate files!) Please note, my haveFun() isn't something that I'm going to need outside of these 2 classes, or even being onHoliday (ie. there is no chance of me doing some haveFun() over a weekend or of an evening!). I have though about putting haveFun() into an interface, but it seems a bit worthless having an interface with only a single method! Even then I would have to have the method in both of the classes -one for bike and another for car! I have thought about having my onHoliday class accepting any object type, but then I don't want someone accidentally sending in a boat to my onHoliday class (imagine I can't swim, so its not about to happen). It may be important to note that my onHoliday class is package private, and final. It in fact is only accessed via other 'private methods' in other classes, and has only private methods itself. Thanks in advance. David

  • Feedback on TOC Generation Code

    - by vikramjb
    Hi All I wrote a small code to generate ToC or Hierachical Bullets like one sees in a word document. Like the following set 1. 2 3 3.1 3.1.1 4 5 and so on so forth, the code is working but I am not happy with the code I have written, I would appreciate if you guys could shed some light on how I can improve my C# code. You can download the project from Rapidshare Please do let me know if you need more info. I am making this a community wiki. private void frmMain_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { this.EnableSubTaskButton(); } private void btnNewTask_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { this.AddNodes(true); } private void AddNodes(bool IsParent) { TreeNode parentNode = tvToC.SelectedNode; string curNumber = "0"; if (parentNode != null) { curNumber = parentNode.Text.ToString(); } curNumber = this.getTOCReference(curNumber, IsParent); TreeNode childNode = new TreeNode(); childNode.Text = curNumber; this.tvToC.ExpandAll(); this.EnableSubTaskButton(); this.tvToC.SelectedNode = childNode; if (IsParent) { if (parentNode == null) { tvToC.Nodes.Add(childNode); } else { if (parentNode.Parent != null) { parentNode.Parent.Nodes.Add(childNode); } else { tvToC.Nodes.Add(childNode); } } } else { parentNode.Nodes.Add(childNode); } } private string getTOCReference(string curNumber, bool IsParent) { int lastnum = 0; int startnum = 0; string firsthalf = null; int dotpos = curNumber.IndexOf('.'); if (dotpos > 0) { if (IsParent) { lastnum = Convert.ToInt32(curNumber.Substring(curNumber.LastIndexOf('.') + 1)); lastnum++; firsthalf = curNumber.Substring(0, curNumber.LastIndexOf('.')); curNumber = firsthalf + "." + Convert.ToInt32(lastnum.ToString()); } else { lastnum++; curNumber = curNumber + "." + Convert.ToInt32(lastnum.ToString()); } } else { if (IsParent) { startnum = Convert.ToInt32(curNumber); startnum++; curNumber = Convert.ToString(startnum); } else { curNumber = curNumber + ".1"; } } return curNumber; } private void btnSubTask_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { this.AddNodes(false); } private void EnableSubTaskButton() { if (tvToC.Nodes.Count == 0) { btnSubTask.Enabled = false; } else { btnSubTask.Enabled = true; } } private void btnTest1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { for (int i = 0; i < 100; i++) { this.AddNodes(true); } for (int i = 0; i < 5; i++) { this.AddNodes(false); } for (int i = 0; i < 5; i++) { this.AddNodes(true); } }

I'm testing ClassB which is extending ClassA. ClassB look like this public class ClassB extends ClassA { public ClassB() { super("title"); } @Override public String getDisplayName() { return ClientMessages.getMessages("ClassB.title"); } } ClassA code public abstract class ClassA { private String title; public ClassA(String title) { this.title = ClientMessages.getMessages(title); } public String getDisplayName() { return this.title; } } ClientMessages class code public class ClientMessages { private static MessageResourse messageResourse; public ClientMessages(MessageResourse messageResourse) { this.messageResourse = messageResourse; } public static String getMessages(String code) { return messageResourse.getMessage(code); } } MessageResourse Class code public class MessageResourse { public String getMessage(String code) { return code; } } Testing ClassB import static org.easymock.classextension.EasyMock.createMock; import org.easymock.classextension.EasyMock; import org.testng.Assert; import org.testng.annotations.Test; public class ClassBTest { private MessageResourse mockMessageResourse = createMock(MessageResourse.class); private ClassB classToTest; private ClientMessages clientMessages; @Test public void testGetDisplayName() { EasyMock.expect(mockMessageResourse.getMessage("ClassB.title")).andReturn("someTitle"); clientMessages = new ClientMessages(mockMessageResourse); classToTest = new ClassB(); Assert.assertEquals("someTitle" , classToTest.getDisplayName()); EasyMock.replay(mockMessageResourse); } } When I'm running this this test I'm getting following exception: java.lang.IllegalStateException: missing behavior definition for the preceding method call getMessage("title") While debugging what I found is, it's not considering the mock method call mockMessageResourse.getMessage("ClassB.title") as it has been called from the construtor (ClassB object creation). Can any one please help me how to test in this case. Thanks.

  • Setting Background of a Jbutton

    - by mithun1538
    Hello there, I have 5 JButtons: b1, b2, b3, b4, b5. By default, their color is gray. When I click on any button, the background of that button changes to white. When I click another button, I want that previous clicked button to change its background to gray, and this newly clicked button to change its background to white. Here is the code that I wrote: int liveButton = 0; //holds the value of the button that is last clicked. //0 indicates no button clicked (in the beginning) private void ChangeInUsersList(int clickedButton) { switch(liveButton) { case 1 : b1.setBackground(Color.GRAY); break; case 2 : b2.setBackground(Color.GRAY); break; case 3 : b3.setBackground(Color.GRAY); break; case 4 : b4.setBackground(Color.GRAY); break; case 5 : b5.setBackground(Color.GRAY); break; default: System.out.println("No button to change"); } liveButton = clickedButton;// store the clicked button to change its //background later } private void b1ActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) { ChangeInUsersList(1); b1.setBackground(new java.awt.Color(255,255,255)); } private void b2ActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) { ChangeInUsersList(2); b2.setBackground(new java.awt.Color(255,255,255)); } private void b3ActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) { ChangeInUsersList(3); b3.setBackground(new java.awt.Color(255,255,255)); } private void b4ActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) { ChangeInUsersList(4); b4.setBackground(new java.awt.Color(255,255,255)); } private void b5ButtonActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) { ChangeInUsersList(5); b5.setBackground(new java.awt.Color(255,255,255)); } However, its not working as expected. When i click on a button, its background does change to white. However, if i click on some other button after that, the former button's background doesnt change to grey. I tried replacing Color.GREY with new java.awt.Color(236,233,216) - the rgb for grey but it still doesnt work.

  • Map enum in JPA with fixed values ?

    - by Kartoch
    I'm looking for the different ways to map an enum using JPA. I especially want to set the integer value of each enum entry and to save only the integer value. @Entity @Table(name = "AUTHORITY_") public class Authority implements Serializable { public enum Right { READ(100), WRITE(200), EDITOR (300); private int value; Right(int value) { this.value = value; } public int getValue() { return value; } }; @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.AUTO) @Column(name = "AUTHORITY_ID") private Long id; // the enum to map : private Right right; } A simple solution is to use the Enumerated annotation with EnumType.ORDINAL: @Column(name = "RIGHT") @Enumerated(EnumType.ORDINAL) private Right right; But in this case JPA maps the enum index (0,1,2) and not the value I want (100,200,300). Th two solutions I found do not seem simple... First Solution A solution, proposed here, uses @PrePersist and @PostLoad to convert the enum to an other field and mark the enum field as transient: @Basic private int intValueForAnEnum; @PrePersist void populateDBFields() { intValueForAnEnum = right.getValue(); } @PostLoad void populateTransientFields() { right = Right.valueOf(intValueForAnEnum); } Second Solution The second solution proposed here proposed a generic conversion object, but still seems heavy and hibernate-oriented (@Type doesn't seem to exist in JEE): @Type( type = "org.appfuse.tutorial.commons.hibernate.GenericEnumUserType", parameters = { @Parameter( name = "enumClass", value = "Authority$Right"), @Parameter( name = "identifierMethod", value = "toInt"), @Parameter( name = "valueOfMethod", value = "fromInt") } ) Is there any other solutions ? I've several ideas in mind but I don't know if they exist in JPA: use the setter and getter methods of right member of Authority Class when loading and saving the Authority object an equivalent idea would be to tell JPA what are the methods of Right enum to convert enum to int and int to enum Because I'm using Spring, is there any way to tell JPA to use a specific converter (RightEditor) ?

  • IHttpAsyncHandler and IObservable web requests

    Within Async handler I'm creating an IObservable from webrequest which returns a redirect string. I'm subscribing to that observable and calling AsyncResult.CompleteCall() but I'm forced to use Thread.Sleep(100) in order to get it executed. And it doesn't work every time. I'm pretty sure this is not correct. Could you please shine some light. • JPA 2 Criteria API: why is isNull being ignored when in conjunction with equal?

    - by Vítor Souza
    I have the following entity class (ID inherited from PersistentObjectSupport class): @Entity public class AmbulanceDeactivation extends PersistentObjectSupport implements Serializable { private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L; @Temporal(TemporalType.DATE) @NotNull private Date beginDate; @Temporal(TemporalType.DATE) private Date endDate; @Size(max = 250) private String reason; @ManyToOne @NotNull private Ambulance ambulance; /* Get/set methods, etc. */ } If I do the following query using the Criteria API: CriteriaBuilder cb = em.getCriteriaBuilder(); CriteriaQuery<AmbulanceDeactivation> cq = cb.createQuery(AmbulanceDeactivation.class); Root<AmbulanceDeactivation> root = cq.from(AmbulanceDeactivation.class); EntityType<AmbulanceDeactivation> model = root.getModel(); cq.where(cb.isNull(root.get(model.getSingularAttribute("endDate", Date.class)))); return em.createQuery(cq).getResultList(); I get the following SQL printed in the log: FINE: SELECT ID, REASON, ENDDATE, UUID, BEGINDATE, VERSION, AMBULANCE_ID FROM AMBULANCEDEACTIVATION WHERE (ENDDATE IS NULL) However, if I change the where() line in the previous code to this one: cq.where(cb.isNull(root.get(model.getSingularAttribute("endDate", Date.class))), cb.equal(root.get(model.getSingularAttribute("ambulance", Ambulance.class)), ambulance)); I get the following SQL: FINE: SELECT ID, REASON, ENDDATE, UUID, BEGINDATE, VERSION, AMBULANCE_ID FROM AMBULANCEDEACTIVATION WHERE (AMBULANCE_ID = ?) That is, the isNull criterion is totally ignored. It is as if it wasn't even there (if I provide only the equal criterion to the where() method I get the same SQL printed). Why is that? Is it a bug or am I missing something?

  • Tiered Design With Analytical Widgets - Is This Code Smell?

    - by Repo Man
    The idea I'm playing with right now is having a multi-leveled "tier" system of analytical objects which perform a certain computation on a common object and then create a new set of analytical objects depending on their outcome. The newly created analytical objects will then get their own turn to run and optionally create more analytical objects, and so on and so on. The point being that the child analytical objects will always execute after the objects that created them, which is relatively important. The whole apparatus will be called by a single thread so I'm not concerned with thread safety at the moment. As long as a certain base condition is met, I don't see this being an unstable design but I'm still a little bit queasy about it. Is this some serious code smell or should I go ahead and implement it this way? Is there a better way? Here is a sample implementation: namespace WidgetTier { public class Widget { private string _name; public string Name { get { return _name; } } private TierManager _tm; private static readonly Random random = new Random(); static Widget() { } public Widget(string name, TierManager tm) { _name = name; _tm = tm; } public void DoMyThing() { if (random.Next(1000) > 1) { _tm.Add(); } } } //NOT thread-safe! public class TierManager { private Dictionary<int, List<Widget>> _tiers; private int _tierCount = 0; private int _currentTier = -1; private int _childCount = 0; public TierManager() { _tiers = new Dictionary<int, List<Widget>>(); } public void Add() { if (_currentTier + 1 >= _tierCount) { _tierCount++; _tiers.Add(_currentTier + 1, new List<Widget>()); } _tiers[_currentTier + 1].Add(new Widget(string.Format("({0})", _childCount), this)); _childCount++; } //Dangerous? public void Sweep() { _currentTier = 0; while (_currentTier < _tierCount) //_tierCount will start at 1 but keep increasing because child objects will keep adding more tiers. { foreach (Widget w in _tiers[_currentTier]) { w.DoMyThing(); } _currentTier++; } } public void PrintAll() { for (int t = 0; t < _tierCount; t++) { Console.Write("Tier #{0}: ", t); foreach (Widget w in _tiers[t]) { Console.Write(w.Name + " "); } Console.WriteLine(); } } } class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { TierManager tm = new TierManager(); for (int c = 0; c < 10; c++) { tm.Add(); //create base widgets; } tm.Sweep(); tm.PrintAll(); Console.ReadLine(); } } }

  • Is C# slower than VB.NET?

    - by Matt Winckler
    Believe it or not, despite the title, this is not a troll. Running some benchmarks this morning, my colleagues and I have discovered some strange things concerning performance, and I am wondering if we're doing something horribly wrong. We started out comparing C# vs. Delphi Prism calculating prime numbers, and found that Prism was about 30% faster. I figured maybe CodeGear did more optimization when generating IL (the exe was about twice as big as C#'s and had all sorts of different IL in it.) So I decided to write a test in VB.NET as well, assuming that Microsoft's compilers would end up writing essentially the same IL for each language. However, the result there was more shocking: C# was more than three times slower than VB running the same operations. The generated IL was different, but not extremely so, and I'm not good enough at reading it to understand the differences. As a fan of C#, this apparent slowness wounds me horribly, and I am left wondering: what in the world is going on here? Is it time to pack it all in and go write web apps in Ruby? ;-) I've included the code for each below--just copy it into a new VB or C# console app, and run. On my machine, VB finds 348513 primes in about 6.36 seconds. C# finds the same number of primes in 21.76 seconds. (I've got an Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 @2.4Ghz; on another Intel machine in the office the code for both runs much faster but the ratio is about the same; on an AMD machine here the timing is ~10 seconds for VB and ~13 for C#--much less difference, but C# is still always slower.) Both of the console applications were compiled in Release mode, but otherwise no project settings were changed from the defaults generated by Visual Studio 2008. Is it a generally-known fact that C#'s generated IL is worse than VB's? Or is this a strange edge case? Or is my code flawed somehow (most likely)? Any insights are appreciated. VB code Imports System.Diagnostics Module Module1 Private temp As List(Of Int32) Private sw As Stopwatch Private totalSeconds As Double Sub Main() serialCalc() End Sub Private Sub serialCalc() temp = New List(Of Int32)() sw = Stopwatch.StartNew() For i As Int32 = 2 To 5000000 testIfPrimeSerial(i) Next sw.Stop() totalSeconds = sw.Elapsed.TotalSeconds Console.WriteLine(String.Format("{0} seconds elapsed.", totalSeconds)) Console.WriteLine(String.Format("{0} primes found.", temp.Count)) Console.ReadKey() End Sub Private Sub testIfPrimeSerial(ByVal suspectPrime As Int32) For i As Int32 = 2 To Math.Sqrt(suspectPrime) If (suspectPrime Mod i = 0) Then Exit Sub End If Next temp.Add(suspectPrime) End Sub End Module C# Code using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.Diagnostics; namespace FindPrimesCSharp { class Program { List<Int32> temp = new List<Int32>(); Stopwatch sw; double totalSeconds; static void Main(string[] args) { new Program().serialCalc(); } private void serialCalc() { temp = new List<Int32>(); sw = Stopwatch.StartNew(); for (Int32 i = 2; i <= 5000000; i++) { testIfPrimeSerial(i); } sw.Stop(); totalSeconds = sw.Elapsed.TotalSeconds; Console.WriteLine(string.Format("{0} seconds elapsed.", totalSeconds)); Console.WriteLine(string.Format("{0} primes found.", temp.Count)); Console.ReadKey(); } private void testIfPrimeSerial(Int32 suspectPrime) { for (Int32 i = 2; i <= Math.Sqrt(suspectPrime); i++) { if (suspectPrime % i == 0) return; } temp.Add(suspectPrime); } } }

  • Is Structuremap singleton thread safe?

    - by Ben
    Hi, Currently I have the following class: public class PluginManager { private static bool s_initialized; private static object s_lock = new object(); public static void Initialize() { if (!s_initialized) { lock (s_lock) { if (!s_initialized) { // initialize s_initialized = true; } } } } } The important thing here is that Initialize() should only be executed once whilst the application is running. I thought that I would refactor this into a singleton class since this would be more thread safe?: public sealed class PluginService { static PluginService() { } private static PluginService _instance = new PluginService(); public static PluginService Instance { get { return _instance; } } private bool s_initialized; public void Initialize() { if (!s_initialized) { // initialize s_initialized = true; } } } Question one, is it still necessary to have the lock here (I have removed it) since we will only ever be working on the same instance? Finally, I want to use DI and structure map to initialize my servcices so I have refactored as below: public interface IPluginService { void Initialize(); } public class NewPluginService : IPluginService { private bool s_initialized; public void Initialize() { if (!s_initialized) { // initialize s_initialized = true; } } } And in my registry: ForRequestedType<IPluginService>() .TheDefaultIsConcreteType<NewPluginService>().AsSingletons(); This works as expected (singleton returning true in the following code): var instance1 = ObjectFactory.GetInstance<IPluginService>(); var instance2 = ObjectFactory.GetInstance<IPluginService>(); bool singleton = (instance1 == instance2); So my next question, is the structure map solution as thread safe as the singleton class (second example). The only downside is that this would still allow NewPluginService to be instantiated directly (if not using structure map). Many thanks, Ben

This is my code: import java.util.*; import javax.mail.*; import javax.mail.internet.*; public class SendEmail { private String host = "smtp.gmail.com"; private String emailLogin = "[email protected]"; private String pass = "xxx"; private String studentAddress; private String to; private Properties props = System.getProperties(); public SendEmail() { props.put("mail.smtps.auth", "true"); props.put("mail.smtps.starttls.enable", "true"); props.put("mail.smtp.host", host); props.put("mail.smtp.user", emailLogin); props.put("mail.smtp.password", pass); props.put("mail.smtp.port", "587"); to = "[email protected]"; } public void setStudentAddress(String newAddress) { studentAddress = newAddress; } public void send() { Session session = Session.getDefaultInstance(props, null); MimeMessage message = new MimeMessage(session); try { message.setFrom(new InternetAddress(emailLogin)); InternetAddress[] studentAddressList = {new InternetAddress(studentAddress)}; message.setReplyTo(studentAddressList); message.setRecipient(Message.RecipientType.TO, new InternetAddress(to)); message.setSubject("Test Email"); message.setText("This is a test email!"); Transport transport = session.getTransport("smtps"); transport.connect(host, emailLogin, pass); transport.sendMessage(message, message.getAllRecipients()); transport.close(); } catch (MessagingException me) { System.out.println("There has been an email error!"); me.printStackTrace(); } } } Any ideas...

  • Why / When / How is this Android serviceBinder resetting to null?

    - by GaZ
    I've written a ListActivity for Android 2.1 which is used to display a list of event categories. As the user selects a category, the program calls a web service to retrieve a list of sub-events. For example, a top level event might be "soccer" and when the user selects this the web service would return various soccer associations (e.g. "english", "french", "german", etc.) and display them in a new list. The following code seems to work occasionally, however sometimes the call to the service (in EventsListTask) fails because the serviceBinder is null. How/Why does this happen? public class EventListsActivity extends ListActivity { private static final String EVENT_ID = "EventId"; private List<ListItem> eventList; private ArrayAdapter<ListItem> listItemArrayAdapter; private static final int LOADING_DIALOG = 1; private EventsListTask eventsListTask = null; private BFService serviceBinder; private ServiceConnection mConnection = new ServiceConnection() { public void onServiceConnected(ComponentName componentName, IBinder iBinder) { Log.i("EventListsActivity", "service connected"); serviceBinder = ((BFService.BFBinder)iBinder).getService(); } public void onServiceDisconnected(ComponentName componentName) { Log.i("EventListsActivity", "service disconnected"); serviceBinder = null; } }; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { Log.i("EventListsActivity", "onCreate"); super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.list); eventList = new ArrayList<ListItem>(); listItemArrayAdapter = new ArrayAdapter<ListItem>(this, R.layout.row, eventList); setListAdapter(listItemArrayAdapter); Intent bindIntent = new Intent(this, BFService.class); bindService(bindIntent, mConnection, Context.BIND_AUTO_CREATE); int eventId = getIntent().getIntExtra(EVENT_ID, -1); if (eventsListTask == null || eventsListTask.getStatus() == AsyncTask.Status.FINISHED) { eventsListTask = new EventsListTask(); eventsListTask.execute(eventId); } } @Override protected void onDestroy() { Log.i("EventListsActivity", "destroyed"); super.onDestroy(); unbindService(mConnection); } @Override protected void onListItemClick(ListView listView, View view, int position, long id) { super.onListItemClick(listView, view, position, id); ListItem selectedItem = (ListItem) listView.getAdapter().getItem(position); Intent intent; if (selectedItem.getMarketType() != null) { intent = new Intent(this, MarketActivity.class); intent.putExtra(EVENT_ID, selectedItem.getId()); startActivityIfNeeded(intent, -1); } else if (selectedItem.getId() != -1) { intent = new Intent(this, EventListsActivity.class); intent.putExtra(EVENT_ID, selectedItem.getId()); startActivityIfNeeded(intent, -1); } else { Log.e("EventListsActivity", "unexpected item selected!"); } } @Override protected Dialog onCreateDialog(int id) { switch (id) { case (LOADING_DIALOG) : AlertDialog.Builder loadingDialog = new AlertDialog.Builder(this); loadingDialog.setTitle("Please Wait..."); loadingDialog.setMessage("Communicating with remote service."); return loadingDialog.create(); } return null; } private class EventsListTask extends AsyncTask<Integer, Void, LoginStatusEnum> { @Override protected void onPreExecute() { showDialog(LOADING_DIALOG); } @Override protected void onPostExecute(LoginStatusEnum loginStatusEnum) { dismissDialog(LOADING_DIALOG); if (loginStatusEnum != null) { switch (loginStatusEnum) { case OK: for (ListItem item : eventList) { listItemArrayAdapter.add(item); } listItemArrayAdapter.notifyDataSetChanged(); break; } } } @Override protected LoginStatusEnum doInBackground(Integer... params) { LoginStatusEnum result = LoginStatusEnum.OK; Integer eventId = params[0]; if (serviceBinder != null) { try { if (eventId == null || eventId == -1) { eventList = serviceBinder.getActiveEventTypes(); } else { eventList = serviceBinder.getEvents(eventId); } } catch (WebServiceException wse) { result = LoginStatusEnum.valueOf(wse.getMessage()); } } else { Log.e("EventListsActivity", "serviceBinder is null!"); } return result; } } } EDIT: The serviceBinder appears to be set to null when I reach the bottom of a list, when I change the target intent to go to a different activity: intent = new Intent(this, MarketActivity.class); intent.putExtra(EVENT_ID, selectedItem.getId()); startActivity(intent); This new activity also uses the same background service (binds in the same way, etc.). Is there anything I need to watch out for when doing this? Am I calling the target intent incorrectly? EDIT2: Here's the output from LogCat when I start the activity which calls the service (this time the service failed straight away!): 04-02 07:02:49.147: INFO/ActivityManager(61): Starting activity: Intent { cmp=net.foobar.activity/.EventListsActivity } 04-02 07:02:49.257: INFO/EventListsActivity(353): onCreate 04-02 07:02:49.426: INFO/EventListsActivity(353): service connected 04-02 07:02:49.437: ERROR/EventListsActivity(353): serviceBinder is null!
