• Separate web and email host

  My client has their domain name (lorem.com) registered with company X which also host their email. I'd like to host their new website with separate hosting company (company Y). I know I need to update the DNS nameservers for their domain name to point to company Y's nameservers. I'm not sure how to handle the email host though. Doing an MX lookup on their domain, currently shows: Pref Hostname 10 lorem.com 20 mx2.companyX.com Do I need to do any updates to the MX record? Also, do I need to add/edit the A record to point to company Y's IP address? Thanks!

• Mail program splits link over two lines

  Hi, In C#, I'm sending a mail with an activation link to users after they have registered. However, the link is split over two lines in the mail and thus doesn't work. I've checked in Visual Studio and the string containing the link looks fine. I've also tried: strMessage.Replace("\r", ""); strMessage.Replace("\n", ""); but without success. Do you have any ideas on how to solve this? I've googled it for hours and can't find the solution... Thanks! /J

• Change IP where domain is pointing

  This is probably a very strange request. I need to programmaticaly (via code) change the IP where a domain name is pointing to. IE: xyz.com points to 100.100.100.100 setIP('xyz.com','100.100.100.100'); I know this [code] is practically impossible, however, what I need is to do this via domain host API etc or other possible ways you might think of. I'd be happy even if it weren't anything more then sending an email to the DNS owner/host. Do you know of anything the like or which might help? (nb: considered throwing this at ServerFault, but felt it more at home here ;) ) Cheers!

• Trying to link a domain to a IP

  Hi, I have registered mydomain.com now i want to redirect to my IP hosting account. The DNS editor shows two fields: Name and Address. In Address i wrote the IP i want the domain redirects. And in Name I wrote mydomain.com. After submitting the form, the page shows this line: Name Type Record mydomain.mydomain.com. A 173.203.58.251 I expected it shows this: Name Type Record mydomain.com. A 173.203.58.251 Is that OK? or am i doing some wrong? Regards Javi

  The thing im trying to do right now is pulling in multiple links from a textarea, We can pretend that a user inputs c:\pics\img01.jpg and in the next row he'll have the next imglink. • Split horizon, route filtering, and having RIPv2 announce a non-attached route to host...

  Routers A, B & C live at 10.1.1.1, 10.1.1.2 and 10.1.1.3 on a /24 metro Ethernet subnet. Each router also has its own private subnet on another interface. Router B's private subnet links thru a firewall to a 10.20.20.0 network at another organization. Router B redistributes to A and C several static routes for hosts on 10.20.20.0. However, a new host 10.20.20.5/32 must be reached via a different path that goes through router C. I know that C can advertise this host-based route with no problem, but I'd like to keep all my 10.20.20.x static routes in one place. So, how can B tell A via RIPv2 to send packets for 10.20.20.5/32 to C? So far it looks like I need no ip split-horizon on router B's 10.1.1.2 interface, perhaps because B has already learned from C other routes with a next hop of 10.1.1.3. But how does RIPv2 split horizon with no auto-summary and network 10.0.0.0 really work? If B learns a route to ANY 10.x.x.x network or host from A or C, is that enough for split horizon to keep it from redistributing ip route 10.20.20.5 255.255.255.255 10.1.1.3? And if I want to suspend split horizon only for this one new host, how do I filter out the mess of regurgitated routes that B advertises when I try no ip split-horizon? Thanks much.

  I am a graduate student with many scripts, bibliography data in bibtex, thesis draft in latex, presentations in open office, posters in scribus, and figures and result data. I would like to put everything in one project under version control. Then when I need to work on a portion such as the bibliography data, I would like to check that subdirectory out, modify it as necessary and merge it back.I would like the ability to check out one version to my home computer, and a different one to my work computer and make changes to each independently and eventually merge them back. I would also like to be able to check out a piece of code from this big project and import it with versioning into a separate project. If I may changes I'd like to be able to merge them back to the original project. • How do you host multiple public facing websites on a VPS?

  We host about 30 websites using typical shared hosting plans using ASP.NET and SQL 2000/2005/2008. I am now wondering about hosting all of these websites using our own virtual private server such as http://www.crystaltech.com/vps.aspx This is clearly cheaper but comes with a lot of questions I need answers to: Is the risk of having to keep this VPS server up and running worth it? Until now, the host provider has managed the server and we have not had to worry about crashes, downtime, software patches etc. We are not server administrators, we are programmers, so this is not really our expertise. On the other hand, it may not be hard to learn. When we make a website live, we log in to a domain management control panel and change the primary and secondary name servers to point to our shared web host: Eg ns1.sharedwebhost.com and ns2.sharedwebhost.com These name servers are going to have to change when we have a VPS. I don’t understand anything about how to set this up. Is there some useful info anyone could direct me to? Or is there software we need to install to make the primary and secondary name servers work on our VPS? The control panel we have for shared hosting comes with DNS management like this: What software would I need to install to create this for each site we host at a VPS? The control panel we have for shared hosting also comes with a POP email interface that allows email addresses to be added easily: Is this something that can be easily set up at a VPS so clients can manage their own email addresses? Is there software we need to install to make this work?

  Ok, this one has been driving me up the wall... I have a xslt function that is supposed to split out the Zip-code part from a Zip+City string depending on the country. I cannot get it to work!   I am tryint to tokenize entries from a file. However I am not able to use the line.split("") option because of unequal number of spaces between files. I have no trouble accessing the first and second columns, but not the last column. When I do a info=line.spilt(""), since the third column might or might no entries, I am not able to determine the token number. How do i access the 4th column? Is there a way i can use info[i].contains(" -")?

• How can you change Network settings (IP Address, DNS, WINS, Host Name) with code in C#

  I am developing a wizard for a machine that is to be used as a backup of other machines. When it replaces an existing machine, it needs to set its IP address, DNS, WINS, and host name to match the machine being replaced. Is there a library in .net (C#) which allows me to do this programatically? There are multiple NICs, each which need to be set individually. EDIT Thannk you TimothyP for your example. It got me moving on the right track and the quick reply was awesome. Thanks balexandre. Your code is perfect. I was in a rush and had already adapted the example TimothyP linked to, but I would have loved to have had your code sooner. I've also developed a routine using similar techniques for changing the computer name. I'll post it in the future so subscribe to this questions RSS feed if you want to be informed of the update. I may get it up later today or on Monday after a bit of cleanup.

BUT, the dns entry will not be added! Here is the weird thing: I KNOW the user (user1) I authenticate with has administrative rights (it's the same user I use to log on the machine with), but the user of the process in procmon says NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM (which is not the user i use to authenticate). Weirdest: If i log on to the server, copy the command line value read from the procmon logging, and paste it in a command line window, it works! Reading procmon after this shows that user1 owns the dnscmd process. Why doesn't user1 become owner of the process started with system.diagnostics.process? Is the reason why the command doesn't work?

• How can I add an additional site to my VPS server?

  I have a VPS hosting service. First of all, I installed bind9 and everything that my main website works just fine. Now, I bought another domain and set its nameserver address&ip to my website ones. I added a configuration file of that site like '/etc/apache2/sites-available/www.example.com' and I did 'a2ensite www.example.com' to enable the website to apache2. After one, when I reloaded my server, I see '000default' and 'www.example.com' in my '/etc/apache2/sites-enabled/' directory. I have thought I am done with settings, but I still cannot connect to the domain example.com. I think I have read it somewhere that I have to set up 'zone' thing which I did when I was setting dns. For example, zone "example.com" IN { type master; file "example.zone"; allow-update { none; }; }; Is this correct? If so, what are the things that I need to do afteron?

• What happens if I just add a second IP to a domain?

  We have two servers that are in constant sync. We have two applications that connect to them. Each app to different server. We devised a new version of those apps that will read a dns entry and get a list of IP addresses and try them in order. Now problem is old apps. We have noticed that some ppl still use the old ones even if we have released the new. If we were to add two IP's to each domain would they receive the IP's in the order we set them or random? Either way it will still work for us but I'm just curious. If first server goes offline will the client application try the other? To be noted for old version: Interruption does not affect in any way the continuation once connection is reestablished. Each communication is independent of previous ones. Applications connect at set intervals of time anywhere between 5 seconds to 1 hour. Connection is done simply using an http post to the URL in question.

• Using a CNAME with Shared Windows Azure Website

  I've been following instructions on the Azure site to add a CNAME to point to my Azure website. I have had some problems getting it to work and there seems to be some contradictory information in some of the posts. I have my website running in "Shared" mode, which according to the Azure instructions supports custom domains and indeed it seems to allow me to manage domains. But some posts seem to indicate that I have to run in reserved mode. Can anyone confirm this? Also, some posts seem to indicate that I need to add the CNAME in the Azure management portal, but I cannot find where this is. Any help appreciated? I don't really understand A records and CNAME that well. My DNS provider allows me to add both. Do I need to change both? Currently my A record points the "root" to the IP address that Azure gives me and the CNAME points www.mydomain to the Azure website host mysite.azurewebsites.net. I have left them for a while to propogate and nothing seem to happen.

  I am trying to read the data in a text file which is separated by commas. My problem, is that one of my data pieces has a comma within it. An example of what the text file looks like is: a, b, "c, d", e, f. It started out as a little app then after some releases, it got more and more popular and it started consuming more time and responsibility from me. So I have enabled the donation option in SourceForge. I'm passionate to continue developing it for free but if (ever) any money comes in, how should I split it with my team? Should I split the amount equally among the number of team members? (50-50 as it is two-member team now) Number of classes, commits or any other valuable submissions by team members? Any other idea? • How to split currently used partition on Ubuntu server?

  I would like to split a currently used partition that is mounted to /usr directory. I did this because / only had 1 gb of data allocated to it. Now, I did not account for the /home directory when I made this partition (or I would have made two partitions). So I have 14 gb mounted to usr/ with 12 gb free. Is there a way I can reclaim the free space on this partition to make another partition to mount to /home? Here is the result of a df -h: I have tried to split the /dev/mmcblk1p4 into 2 different partitions but I was not able to save the partition table correctly.

Once the user selects a record, the JavaScript pulls the packed data apart and populates the other data elements on the FORM. It all works wonderfully in IE, but in FF the fields do not populate with data.   Hello SF, On a win32 multiple nic computer, how to force DNS resolving through gethostbyname() on a specific nic if all nics have different DNS configured and have the same metric ? Otherwise, how to know which DNS will be used to resolve names each time a gethostbyname() call will be performed by the application ?

• Asterisk doesn't start properly at system startup. DNS lookup fails.

  When I start my Ubuntu system it attempts two DNS lookups. One to find out what my internet-routers external ip is. And one to find the IP of my PSTN-SIP-provider. Both fails. [Apr 7 22:14:54] WARNING[1675] chan_sip.c: Invalid address for externhost keyword: sip.mydomain.com ... [Apr 7 22:14:54] WARNING[1675] acl.c: Unable to lookup 'sip.myprovider.com' And since the DNS fails it cannot register properly a cannot make outgoing or incoming calls. If I later, after bootup, restart asterisk everything works excelent. Any idea how I should setup things so that either: Delay Asterisk startup so that DNS is up and healthy first. Somehow get Asterisk to re-try the DNS thing later. Regards Leif
