• Is it possible to split a form into multiple erb modules?

  I have a large form with multiple tabs and would like to be able to split it into multiple modules and include each as a partial. Something like: main.html.erb: <%= form_for (@myobject) do |f| %> <%= render "module1" %> .... module1.html.erb: <%= f.text_field :field1 %> ... Needless to say, when I do it like this I get an error from module1 that "f" is undefined. Is there a way to split form fields into multiple modules?

• Can the Gimp split an image into multiple images?

  I've been scanning a lot of photos recently, more than one at a time. I now have multiple jpegs, each containing multiple photos. Can I, using Gimp, "split" a jpg into 3 smaller files ? What I used to do is : copy the jpg 3 times, and crop a different picture in each copy. There must be an easier way to do this ! EDIT : Is there a plugin that can do that ? I've looked around, but only found plugins that "cut" an image into pieces of equal size.

I need to send them a file to make corrections and send back, but I dont want to send each of them the whole file (because I dont want them changing eachother's data). • How can I set up a local nameserver and modify DNS zones on it?

  This is a follow up to this question. I am having an issue with a Router that doesn't support hairpinning properly. See the link above for details. Now I want to set up a local DNS server that Hosts in our LAN can use to resolve public Hostnames (usual webbrowsing... ). Additionally I want to modify certain zones. In our LAN we have some servers serving resources that are not available in our public dns zone. We always have to configure our local LMHost files accordingly. For example we have a staging installation with a new feature running on a local Webserver, and we cannot access it with the IP directly because the website runs in a named virtual host container, we have to configure LMHost file to point some domain to the local IP address. And now we have also the Hair pinning issue. So my question is: What software can I use? Will bind do the job? I just need to insert some A entries into the zone. As easy as possible. We have local Linux/Ubuntu servers.

I have to send an email every week to host trusts to inform them of who will be working with them and it is a nightmare dividing this up manually. Is it possible to create a macro which will split this spreadsheet into several spreadsheets using the the data from the Host Trust column as the title of each spreadsheet?

• Configuring IE to resolve DNS at the proxy rather than locally.

  With the intention of tunneling web traffic through an SSH connection, the following has been done: I've manually configured a PAC file in IE7 in the LAN Settings dialog. I've verified that traffic is routed through my SSH tunnel that is setup for SOCKS5 dynamic port forwarding. I see that IE7 is always trying to resolve the name locally first. What I'm looking for is the ability to have the DNS name resolved at the proxy, rather than locally by the browser. There's a setting in Firefox that specifies DNS remote resolution, and Safari does it automatically. I've verified correct operation for these 2 other browsers. It would be nice if I could get IE to work also. This is for reference so you could understand where does the question originate from. Notice: The question was actually found by the help of google but with no answers available. Considering how it is exactly my question I figured I should just copy/paste over here because I don't think I could describe any better (there is a small introduction though).

  Context: I make backups / archives, primarily of photos. I'm experimenting with Bup, which is designed for backup to hard disk. Basically it creates Git repos which include packfiles of up to 1GB. But I still need last-ditch backups to keep offline and move offsite (and keeping them on read-only media is good too!). What are the options for archiving and splitting large files over several discs like CDs (and reading them back!)? I'd prefer methods which will stay readable in future. are portable e.g. to Windows. have known simple implementations, so I could re-implement them myself if necessary. (Using Bup packs will stretch my robustness budget. So I want to be confident about how other parts of the system would behave). I heard split archives are possible with both ZIP and 7-Zip. Is that right?

I've been trying to find a way to either: Convert from the original (many pages) PDF file to many Postscript file (one postcript file per PDF page in original PDF file(. Convert from PDF to PS (or even EPS). - I managed to do this Then split the PS file into a collection of smaller files. I've tried using Ghostscript, but it is all gibberish to me. Thanks. PS.   As the title says, I have 200Mbps of streaming video traffic coming into my command center. How do I split the load between routers? Setup is like this: fiber --- router --- switch --- workstations I'm sorry I haven't dealt with this much traffic before. so please be gentle if you're going to kick me out :) EDITED FOR DETAILS: Okay, this specific project is for our company's IP CCTV system. We have deployed over 100++ cameras all over a building/campus and we have estimated each camera to take about 2Mbps of bandwidth each. Now, they're all connected to a switch and that's entirely fine. But coming into our command center, they have to be on a router since it'll get more than 200++ cameras next year (and I don't want to have too many hosts on one subnet). My plan was to have the 1st hundred on a 172.16.9.x block and the 2nd hundred on a 172.16.10.x block (all /24). The servers I have are currently sized to match (about 5 dual 6-core xeons) and I'd have about 19 workstations all streaming video from the 5 servers. (servers pull video from the cameras). But 200Mbps of constant traffic? How the hell do I even break this up? I need to have 1 gateway, to manage the routes... I honestly think I'm way in over my head.

  Can a Barracuda SF 300 reject mail based on DNS? Specifically can it respond with a 4XX code for mail claiming to be from a domain without a valid MX or A record (similar to postfix's smtpd_sender_restrictions = reject_unknown_sender_domain). If so, how do I set it? (I realize it's probably something simple I've overlooked.) The barracuda can resolve using its configured name servers. The name servers can correctly resolve external domains.

• Why is SMB from a Windows 7 64-bit to OS X Server so slow when using DNS vs IP?

  When I connect my 64-bit Windows 7 to a OS X server using \servername, my transfer rates are around 400KB/s. However, when I do the same thing using \192.168.0.10 (which is the IP of the server), transfer rates jump to 30MB/s. All of this happens via a gigabit ethernet cable with my wireless disabled I heard Samba itself "doesn't use DNS", but if that's the case, how am I able to connect to the server in the first place?

• ssh connection slow when using @hostname.com but now when using @ipaddress

  When connecting to a Debian server using ssh, if I use [email protected] (the IP address of hte server) the connection is instant. If however I use [email protected] (a DNS redirected to the IP address of the server) the ssh connection hangs for a 20 seconds before connecting successfully. The ssh logs show the following: [alex@alex home]$ ssh -v -v [email protected] OpenSSH_5.5p1, OpenSSL 1.0.0c-fips 2 Dec 2010 debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh/ssh_config debug1: Applying options for * debug2: ssh_connect: needpriv 0 and here it hangs during 20 seconds before continuing. I think it might have something to do with reverse DNS or similar (the server does not really "know" it's name is hostname.com, it just has that DNS rediriected to its IP address). I have added the following options to /etc/ssh/sshd_config: UseDNS no GSSAPIAuthentication no to no effect. The server's DNS records in /etc/resolv.conf are configured correctly: ping hostname.com PING sub.domain.com (X.X.X.X) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from replicant (X.X.X.X): icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.029 ms 64 bytes from replicant (X.X.X.X): icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.050 ms?s Thanks for the help. Solution: It seems the DSL router my ISP saddled me with was causing the trouble. Changing my DNS server from 192.168.1.1 (router's IP) to google's (8.8.8.8, always good to know when you are in a hurry) instantly solved the connection delay problem. I am guessing that the 50€ router provided does not cache DNS entries, although I don't understand why pinging the DNS address had no delay, and 20 seconds is too long of a wait, even for uncached DNS. Tnanks again for the help!

• Is there a standard method for assigning nameservers to servers in a Windows domain?

  As the title asks, I'm wondering if there's any standard or "best practice" for how to actually assign nameservers (DNS) and manage the nameserver configuration for client servers on a Windows domain. I'm talking about the setting circled in the below image, in case the language of the question is not clear enough: This is for a large, multi-site environment, where ideally/hopefully all servers point at their site's Domain Controller as the primary DNS server, and a DNS server at a different site as the secondary DNS server. For simplicity's sake, we can say that the secondary server would be the Domain Controller at the home site for everyone, and there are no tertiary DNS servers (even though that's not actually the case). Try as I might, I can't seem to find a GPO setting for this (at least on FL 2003 R2, the Computer Configuration - Administrative Templates - Network - DNS Client - DNS Servers GPO is Supported on: Windows XP Professional only), and I find it rather hard to believe that the "best"/"standard" solution would therefore be either scripting up something to apply the DNS settings per site, or using a DHCP server to push those configurations out to the other servers via the DHCP Scope Options. So, is there a standard way of managing this configuration? (That's hopefully not "a script" or "DHCP Scope Option.)

  Hi, so I'm going to create large levels. But there's a problem: There's much unseen space (it's a jump'n run like mario bros.) and this will use memory + cpu. so how could I split up my levels? I'm using Box2D+ cocos2d for iphone. Any ideas? Mayby just set the visible property to NO? But it would be still in the memory :(. But what with the box2d bodies? Destroy and recreate them would be to heavy for the FPS, because I have physics built in which should not be recreated. Should I make fix points where i want to split the level up, than if the player is 200 px away it should preload it. and if the player is 200 px away from the last part of the level I unload it. But there would be the problem with the physics, because on the start of the level it has a unique movement and later if i destroy and recreate it it would do the same. but i don't want that. other ideas?

The above code approximates the resulting LINESTRING because it does not follow the curvature of the original LINESTRING as it only takes into consideration the start and end points when creating the new segment. Is there a way take a substring out of the original LINESTRING given the start and end points?

• Can I split a single SQL 2008 DB Table into multiple filegroups, based on a discriminator column?

  Hi folks, I've got a SQL Server 2008 R2 database which has a number of tables. Two of these tables contains a lot of large data .. mainly because one of them is VARBINARY(MAX) and the sister table is GEOGRAPHY. (Why two tables? Read Below if you're interested***) The data in these tables are geospatial shapes, such as zipcode boundaries. Now, the first 70K odd rows are for DataType = 1 the rest 5mil rows are for DataType = 2 Now, is it possible to split the table data into two files? so all rows that are for DataType != 2 goes into File_A and DataType = 2 goes into File_B? This way, when I backup the DB, I can skip adding File_B so my download is waaaaay smaller? Is this possible? I guessing you might be thinking - why not keep them as TWO extra tables? Mainly because in the code, the data is conceptually the same .. it's just happens that I want to split the storage of this model data. It really messes up my model if I now how two aggregates in my model, instead of one. ***Entity Framework doesn't like Tables with GEOGRAPHY, so i have to create a new table which transforms the GEOGRAPHY to VARBINARY, and then drop that into EF.

• Ubuntu Server 12.04 as a router. Problem with DNS?? Or Routing table?

  I have a virtualbox lab made up of 4 Windows 2008 R2 servers (DC/DNS,SQL,SHAREPOINT, EXCHANGE) that are configured with static ip addresses with NIC's attached to Internal network. Everything works. I had the requirement to execute some tests that also access external services available on the internet. To keep things clean and similar to the production environment I have installed another VM, with Ubuntu Server 12.04 64 bit and configured (I hope) to work as a router like described on this post. This VM has two network interfaces: first is Bridged with the host and is used as a WAN connection and the other one attached in the Internal Network with its own static IP address on the internal network subnet. But actually the Windows servers does not connect to the internet while the unix one connects.
