  • Is it possible to play multiple audio streams from one "jukebox" to multiple Airport Express devices?

    I have set up a Mac mini as a jukebox that streams audio to an Airport Express in another room in the house, using the AirPlay/AirTunes feature in iTunes. I control this with the iOS Remote app, and this works great. At the present time, it looks like the Mac mini's copy of iTunes gets taken over by the Remote app, while streaming. If I set up a second Airport Express in room B, is there a way to set it up (as well as the jukebox) so that it can receive and play its own unique music stream ("stream B"), separate from what's going on at the Mac mini, or in room A, which is playing stream A? To accomplish this, I would be happy to buy a copy of Rogue Amoeba's AirFoil if it will allow sending multiple, separate audio streams from one computer to the multiple wireless bridges, while using the Remote app (or a Rogue Amoeba equivalent for iOS). However, it is unclear to me from their site documentation, whether that is possible or not. I'd prefer to give the points to an answer that solves this problem. If you don't know if it can be done, or do not think it can be done, please allow others to answer. I appreciate your help. Thanks for your advice.

  • Networking Windows 7 and Vista

    How do you set up a Windows Vista Home Basic desktop (wired) and a Windows 7 Home Premium laptop (wifi) on a home network so that they can share files and the printers connected to the desktop? The Win7 laptop may also be used on other networks. I'm going to have to set this up for my parents when I visit shortly. I currently use XP and am not really familiar with Vista or Win7 network setup. Would it be difficult to share between the Vista and Win7 machines and and XP machine? If not, how to add that?

    I am a graphic designer (among other things) and I'm used to doing magazine advertisements, brochures, posters and that sort of thing. Recently I was approached by a photographer who wants a graphic designer to produce wedding albums for him. I have already done a couple for him but I'm finding it hard to work by just arranging my layouts in Photoshop alone. It's very time consuming, but quite repetitive - especially when you're dealing with common page layouts. I know a lot of photographers use album design software to speed up the process a bit. What's the industry standard in terms of album design software?

  • Windows service fails to start with custom user until started once with local user

    All of a sudden my Windows service application after installation does not start. (Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do.) The service uses a custom user. If I change the logon setting to use the local system account, the service starts fine. Then when I go back and change the login setting to use this custom account (local user - custom user under user group), the service will start. Why doesn't it work in the first place?

  • iTunes 9.2 OS X - iTunes DJ not functioning correctly

    I have been using iTunes on my Mac for 4 years now without any problems at all. Recently, however, the iTunes DJ function has started misbehaving. Instead of showing the 5 previously played songs, and 15 upcoming songs randomly selected from the playlist I have defined in the settings, it instead shows the 5 previously played songs, plus many more than 15 upcoming songs. In addition, the upcoming songs are not from the playlist, they are from about 7 or so albums, in album order. I have changed settings, change the source playlist, restarted iTunes, rebooted the machine. All with no change. Does anybody have any idea how to get this working again? Thanks, Dave

  • Samsumg WEP470 bluetooth headset won't work in Windows 7

    I'm trying to use my Samsung WEP470 bluetooth headset with Windows 7 for VOIP apps. When I try to "Add a Bluetooth Device" in the control panel, it detects the headset and installs a driver. However, at the end of driver installation, I see the error message, "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" I'm using the Microsoft Bluetooth transceiver that came with my Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer for Bluetooth, and the mouse works fine. From other Superuser.com posts, it looks like the headset should just work, as long as I have the Bluetooth transceiver's drivers properly installed. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

  • unable to boot into safe mode even after fixing registry

    I have a windows XP sp3 system which is affected by Sality Worm. The usual symptoms of taskmanager and regedit disabled were there, and i saw that i was unable to boot my system in safe mode. Then i found that the sality worm removes the SAFEBOOT keys from registry hive. So i downloaded this reg file from http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208279889 and was successfully able to update the reg file to my system. But still when i hit F8 during boot and select safe mode option, it still restarts after loading mup.sys file. i don't know what more to do to get to safe mode. The virus is still there in dormant stage, i can verify that because taskmanager and regedit is not disabled after i restarted in normal mode and i could browse any site and it did not kill the browser process. I also ran the salitykiller from same link above and it healed all infected exe files. This is related to another question which i have asked here,but i don't see how a common solution can solve both of those problems. Any help folks? Thanks

  • Restoring Time Machine from two Macs onto one (new) mac

    My parents used to have two Macs...a "iLamp-style" iMac for my Dad, and an iBook G4 for my Mom. A while back, I had setup the iMac to have an external Firewire Hard Drive for a Time Machine Volume, and backed up both the iMac and iBook to that drive. Recently, the iBook died and the iMac was really slow to work with. So my parents decided to replace the iBook with an iPad, and also purchased a Mac Mini. I need to help my parents get their data from their two computers (backed up by Time Machine) onto the same machine. Pretty much everything is identical between the two systems (same apps, etc), however, they both have individual email accounts and photos that they want to retain. Is it possible to do two Time Machine restores onto one computer?

    Is there a 'top' like command for monitoring the GPU and memory usage of a video card? I am most interested in Linux commands, but and OS would be interesting. I strongly suspect that for a group of my systems the video cards are being under-utilized (but I have no idea by how much) and would like to re-allocate funds to other bottle-necks. We are using higher end cards, so the price difference between cards is significant. Thank you.

    In ubuntu 9.04, I tried to upgrade from firefox 3.0 to 3.5, by installing some apt-get packages, and there is a problem! Now firefox calls itself "Namoroka" and the firefox logo is gone and replaced by a black square in the upper bar and it says it is a development beta version. I really don't like this version, how can I go back to the stable version of firefox? I tried apt-get remove firefox-3.5 and apt-get install firefox-3.0 and that did not work. How do I go back to the stable version of firefox?

  • Dolby Digital Live (DDL) on Asus Rampage II Gene (Creative X-Fi Extreme)

    Hi there, I have an Asus Rampage II Gene motherboard which has X-Fi extreme built in. I can get it to work with Windows 7 ok using the Creative drivers, however when I try and install the DDL/DTS add on pack from Creative I get the error message: "There are no supported audio device available. You need to close the application. Click OK to close the application now" I don't understand it because I have the Creative software installed ok and supporting the sound without any problems. In Device manager the audio device comes up as 'High definition audio device' and uses driver: 6.1.7600.16385 from Microsoft. I tried using the Creative drivers which show up as 'soundmax HD audio' however these do not allow any of the Creative products to run properly. Please can anyone offer any help?     I'm trying to image a SATA laptop hard drive, using DriveImageXML, that is attached to my computer via a USB adapter. I'm running Win7 Ultimate 64 bit. DriveXML is returning: Could not initialize Windows Volume Shadow Service (VSS). ERROR C:\Program Files (x86)\Runtime Software\Drivelmage XML\vss64.exe failed to start. ERROR TIMEOUT Make sure VSSVC.EXE is running in your task manager. Click Help for more information. VSSVC.EXE is running in Task Manager, as is VSS64.exe. Looking at the FAQ on the Runtime webpage this turned up: Please verify in Settings-Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Services that the following services are enabled: MS Software Shadow Copy Provider Volume Shadow Copy Also make sure you are able to stop and start these services. Possible reasons for VSS failures: For VSS to work, at least one volume in your computer must be NTFS. If you use only FAT drives, VSS will not function. The required NTFS volume does not need to be identical with the volume you want to image. You should make sure that VSSVC.EXE is running in your task manager. If the problems persist, registering "oleaut.dll" and "oleaut32.dll" using "regsvr32" might help. Both of those services are running and can be started and stopped without issue. Using "regsvr32" to register ""oleaut32.dll" returns successful, but "oleaut.dll" returns: The module "oleaut.dll" failed to load. Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files. The specified module could not be found. Some other information that might be relevant. Browsing to the drive is successful, but accessing certain folders returns an "access" error. Windows runs a permissions adder that adds the current user profile to the NFTS permissions. Could this be the cause of the issue? DriveImage XML is running as Administrator. Thoughts?

  • Self-hosting vs. Budget hosting - What are the economics?

    My current hosting provider (shared Linux, unlimited domains, < $10 per month, with about 20 sites) has been giving me a lot of grief lately. I am contemplating to just ditch them and repurpose the old Sun V20z that is sitting in my basement rack, and move the hosting in-house, literally. My math goes as follows: my company pays up to $80 a months for my home internet service, which would cover the upgrade from currently Fios to Comcast business internet with 5 static IPs. So this comes free. running the server will cost me about $180/year at the current rate of approx. $.2/kWh my time is free So, it seems that the my net cost of doing this would be about $80 anually, plus the work that goes into setup and maintenance. I will have to get email hosting somewhere, which I do not want to do myself. On the other side of the balance sheet, I'd likely get better uptime than my provider based on recent stats, will not get suspended and don't have to spend hours with customer support. Overall, I am not convinced. Has anybody actually done that? What was your experience, and did it pay off?

    Everytime I try to install this 2 updates I get the same error while I've succesfully installed other updates. I've tried to disable NOD32 antivirus and Spybot resident with no result. I've also tried to download the updates and open with the Windows Update Standalone Installer but it comes up with a message which states "The update is not applicable to your computer".

    When I use the line tool in Photoshop, it creates a vector layer mask with the shape of that line. When I draw a curved line with the pen tool, the only option I see for making a line out of the path is "Stroke path", which is not vector (raster). How do I create a vector line/curve with the pen tool in Photoshop (CS4)? Thanks!
