• jQuery Autocomplete losing text on AutoPostBack

  I have a jQuery Autocomplete field on an ASP.Net Webform and everything has been working great until now. I also have a DropDownList that I have a need to fire onSelectedIndexChanged with AutoPostBack. When I changed my code to do the AutoPostBack, the text field that has the jQuery AutoComplete on it comes back blank. However, if I look at the source of the page, the text is in the text field. If I now post the form, the page will send back a blank field. My Google-Fu is weak on this one, as I could not come up with any workaround for it. Has anyone had any issues like this with the Autocomplete field getting blanked out on an AutoPostBack, and how did you get around it? I can post code if it's really necessary, but I'd need to sanitize a lot of it before I could due to company policy.

  Hi, Is it possible to make a small box (which will be a row element in a list for me) with an icon in the upper right corner, and text wrapped around it? The jQuery .is(':empty') is not working either. So whow do you identify an empty text node in JQuery or plain ol' Javascript?

• Disabling Firefox spell checking in iframe-based text editors

  There is a lot of info around about how to disable spell checking in html textarea element by using spellcheck='false'. However to have text area with more advanced capabilities, one must use iframe with designMode = "on" (see e.g. this page, this is a way that RichTextArea is implemented in GWT) and I couldn't find a single post on that topic. It turns out that Firefox detects such advanced text areas and enables its spell checking in them. You can see it live by visiting this page from Firefox and entering some content to text field. If you inspect this code, you'll see no textarea tag, yet FF spell checking is still active. The only way I managed to disable it was setting designMode to off but... I need it to be on. The question is: Is there any possibility to disable spell checking in such cases, without setting designMode = "off"?

• Ampersand in link description text?

  I am validating my site using validator.w3.org and have an issue where there is a & in my link description text. ie this is taken from the source <a class='tag' href='/php/iphone software.php?function=developer&amp;dev=witch%26wizards+inc.&amp;store=143441'>witch&wizards inc.</a> Which gives me this error in the validator Line 188, Column 540: cannot generate system identifier for general entity "wizards" …6wizards+inc.&store=143441'witch&wizards inc. If I urlencode the description then the validation passes, but the user then sees the text displayed urlencoded, ie Developer witch%26wizards+inc. However I believe it's much more user friendly if this was displayed unencoded, ie Developer witch&wizards inc. Is there a way to pass validation but still have user friendly text displayed?   What i have is four comboboxes and two files. If the column matches the combobox i need to write it out to a file but it has to appened with the second combobox. So for example Combobox1: Apple | Orange Combobox2: Pineapple | Plum I have selected Apple Plum I need to search threw a text file and find whatever columns is Apple or Plum: Orange|Pear|Peach|Turnip|Monkey|Apple|Grape|Plum and then i need to write out just the columns Apple|Plum to a new text file. Any help would be awesome! • Getting the height of text to know fill height as in TCPDF

  I'm trying to go through the code of TCPDF to understand how it calculates the height of the text to be rendered, but it's too much for me to handle without asking. What I want to know: in the PDF from example 5 http://www.tcpdf.org/examples/example_005.pdf it gives the cell a yellow background. I'm guessing that at the basic level, it first draws a box with this fill color, then adds the text, so what method is it calling to get the height of the text to know the height of the box to fill? Anyone knows how to trace this, because doing it by hand and looking through the code isn't working at all for me.

• Is there a way to circumvent CA1726:UsePreferredTerms?

  I have a problem with the code analysis rule CA1726:UsePreferredTerms. Our business domain has two crucial concepts named Case and Flag. According to CA, it's apparently a deadly sin to use these names, however I really don't care since, as I said, they are crucial concepts in our domain model. CA complains not only about the type declarations but about every method parameter-name aswell. So does anyone know if there is a workaround other than adding loads of suppressions or disabling the rule altogether? Could I add the names to a custom dictionary?

  I'm unsuccessfully looking for documentation of fit function using exp2 (sum of 2 exponents). How to operate the function is clear: [curve, gof] = fit(x, y,'exp2'); But since there are multiple ways to fit a sum of exponents I'm trying to find out what algorithm is used. Particularly what happens when I'm fitting one exponent (the raw data) with a bit of noise, how the exponents are spread. I've simulated several cases, and it seems that it "drops" all the weight on the second set of coefficients, but row data analysis often shows different behavior. Does anyone have suggestions of documentation?

• How can I put text from a multi-line text box into one string?

  Dear reader, I'm faced with a bit of an issue. The scenario is that I have a multi-line text box and I want to put all that text into one single string, without any new lines in it. This is what I have at the moment: string[] values = tbxValueList.Text.Split('\n'); foreach (string value in values) { if (value != "" && value != " " && value != null && value != "|") { valueList += value; } } The problem is that no matter what I try and what I do, there is always a new line (at least I think?) in my string, so instead of getting: "valuevaluevalue" I get: "value value value".   I am interested in writing an app that overlays a small heads up display (HUD) over another application, in VB.NET. Does anyone have an example of this? I will need to enumerate all open windows to find the window that I want, and then overlay some text in a specific position on the window. If the user moves that window, my text will need to follow. (I will probably be painting the text in a loop over and over). • How to change the text color of a QxtLabel

  I'm checking out libqxt (an extension library for Qt) and cannot change the text color of a QxTLabel; it's driving me nuts. QxTLabel extends QFrame. QFrame doesn't know anything about text. I tried changing the palette via the Form Editor but that didn't appear to do anything either. I also tried to change the style sheet but, again, QFrame doesn't know about text and QxTLabel isn't giving anything up either. Nothing is jumping out at me from the full member list for QxTLabel either. Thoughts?

• View plain text files with different background colors in Mac OSX, for different programming languag

  Hi, I work with Mac OS X Leopard. I usually have 5 or 10 text files opened at the same time with different programming languages; one for a bash script, another for a python one, etc. When I use exposé all of them look the same, so it is difficult to select them. I wonder how could I work with just plain text files in OSX, so when they are opened in an editor the background color changes or some other thign, so when using exposé it is clear to me which window belongs to what language. I thought about inserting some kind of info to the last line of each document, and then creat some applescript that converts it to RTF or someother text document which includes color in bacjground, so then it is opened with textmate or someother app. Do you know a better approach for this?   I am creating a nav in flex that pulls in buttons dynamically from xml. THe problem i am having is setting the button width to the text width. currently the buttons are all the same width and if the text is larger then it just cuts off. I've tried a few ways of doing this: Setting button width to 100% On creation of the button try to set the width of the button to the text programmatically. Something like evt.target.width = evt.target.textWidth; Anyone know the correct way to do this?
