• Spotlight on GlassFish 4.1: #6 Java API for WebSocket 1.1

  'Spotlight on GlassFish 4.1' is a series of posts that highlights specific enhancements of the upcoming GlassFish 4.1 release. It could be a new feature, a fix, a behavior change, a tip, etc. #6 Java API for WebSocket 1.1 JSR 356 (Java API for WebSocket) has recently passed the Maintenance Release ballot, this Maintenance Release fixes an important issue when Java SE 8 Lambdas are used (see here). GlassFish 4.1 will include an updated version of Tyrus (JSR 356 Reference Implementation) to bring the WebSocket API level to the latest version of the specification, i.e. WebSocket API for Java 1.1. It should be mentioned that the Tyrus version included in GlassFish 4.1 also brings additional features. • Using shortkeys to search the internet for a term selected in a text editor/viewer

  It seems possible (as I learned from a comment to this question made by user55822) to use a command in order to search a term on the web by using "keybinding" the way Aretha is used. What the aforementioned user says is that "you could search mouse selection anywhere by using an app like Artha, or by keybinding sh -c 'firefox "http://translate.google.com/#en/fr/$(xclip -o)"' (example given translate english into french)" A lot of things are obscure for me here. I could use Artha or keybinding (as alternative), or both? How to do that in each case? and "The command I gave you will open google translate in Firefox with your mouse selection (text highlighted) as a query. Use sh -c 'firefox "https://www.google.com/search?q=$(xclip -o)"' if you want regular Google over Google translate. And obviously, that would work everywhere" I do not know what to do with that formula. What should I do exactly? How to use it? In what application?

  I'm just wondering whether to keep some of my variables in Constants class or keep it in web.xml Say, I want to keep a variable of Facebook graph API prefix or api_key, client_id From my understand, the difference between Constants.java and web.xml is web.xml is easier to rewrite on compile using ant. So, you can replace your variables in web.xml according to what environment you are building you app for. (client_id varies by development environment/production environment, for example) If I understand it right, then Facebook graph API prefix should be kept in Constants.java (because it always is "https://graph.facebook.com/") and api_key, client_id should be kept in web.xml? What's the proper way to use them?

Most important changes Search Suggestions are auto-correcting spelling errors, more suggestions for 'how to' type questions, enhanced usability to see the suggested additional terms. Improved Knowledge Base region on the My Oracle Support dashboard: recent searches from this region now retain the search attributions (e.g. pre-selected products or release). Search Tip: if the Knowledge Base region doesn't show up as the first region in the right column on the My Oracle Support dashboard, consider personalizing your dashboard to put it first, so that you right there for searching. • Better control on code updates

  I will briefly explain my situation. I have a website in PHP, this website is powered by a custom framework + some "plug-in" made ad hoc for it. I am the only developer of this. Until now I just test locally any changes than I upload the php files via FTP. I don't feel confortable anymore with this. The code base has grown quite a lot and I need some sort of system that helps to keep track of changes (line by line) and can restore to an old version easly if something goes wrong. Are there any good solution for this? • Installing Ubuntu 12.10 on new computer with Windows 8

  I recently purchased a new HP computer (P6-2330) with Windows 8. I have tried unsuccessfully to install Ubuntu 12.10 64bit alongside Windows 8. The computer is UEFI with Secure Boot enabled. I've tried following the instruction at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI. I am able to get the GRUB menu to show up. However, as soon as I press Enter on either Try Ubuntu or Install Ubuntu, the screen goes blank. Nothing works at all, not even the Num Lock or Caps Lock keys on the keyboard. I have to use the power button to restart the computer. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get Ubuntu installed? To clarify, I have actually tried installing using both a USB stick and a DVD. The USB stick gave a blank screen, while the DVD gave the error message "Empty Security Header" after pressing Enter at the GRUB screen.

To find a path from player.x/player.y (player.x and player.y are both 0) to 10/10 I use this code var path = finder.findPath(player.x, player.y, 10, 10, grid); This gives an array of where I need to move, but how do I apply this array to my player.x and player.y? The path structure looks like this path = [[0, 0], [1, 0], [1, 1], ..., [10, 10]]

  so I have compile my first program today, with the help of the "askubuntu's members"..... thanks so much!!! ;) this is what I have compiled : https://github.com/treeder/logitech_unifier But now, I have some question: 1- I have compiled my file on the desktop I have though it was easier first, but I never though it would create a file on my desktop...... so what do you guys do with the file created by the compilation? I don't think I need it anymore.... so do I delete it? or do I keep it? Is there a folder I should specificaly use for compiling? thanks for answering those newbies question.

• Freezes if desktop effects is used.

  I have found that using desktop effects in Ubuntu versions later than 8.10 causes the desktop to freeze after a few seconds on my PC. the command lspci -nn gave the following 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2772] (rev 02) and with lspci -k I have 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) Kernel driver in use: i915 Kernel modules: i915 The intel graphics cards seems to have some performence issues with xorg driver. However I have not noticed any freeze in Ubuntu 8.10. There are some workarounds at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/Lucidi8xxFreezes to make them work. But I can't find out what workaround should I do with my graphics controller. I have tried workaround F but it did not help. can anyone help me find a workaround for my graphics card? and is it actually possible to use desktop effect in this graphics card ?

  As many know, if you serve a page over https and the content loads resources (images, stylesheets, js, SWF objects, etc) over http, older versions of Internet Explorer will show the user a warning saying "This page contains both secure and non-secure items". This is discomforting to many non-technical users. Usually, I can look at the HTML source and identify which item(s) are triggering this error. Sometimes a Flash object will load something else or some embedded javascript will put a new object in the DOM and trigger this. What tools are good for quickly tracking down the source of the warning?

  I would like to know more about JuJu cache. After I start a charm and JuJu provisions a machine for the first time, the charm will be downloaded and all dependencies installed (apt-get, etc). This process can be very long. Once the charm has been build, configured and deployed once, can JuJu provision more instances of the same charm pre-built and configured? • How to change mimetype image for PSD file (Photoshop)?

  Following this link https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AddingMimeTypes, I first typed a command to discover the mimetype for psd extension ~$ grep 'psd' /etc/mime.types image/x-photoshop psd Then I took Photoshop CS5 SVG image from Wikipedia and renamed it to image-x-photoshop.svg. Then I copied the file to the folder /usr/share/icons/gnome/scalable via command sudo cp image-x-photoshop.svg /usr/share/icons/gnome/scalable/image-x-photoshop.svg Loogged out, logged in, but the icon for the .psd files is still unchanged. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? I use Ubuntu 10.10. Thanks in advance

• getting the user back where they came from with mod_form_auth

  Using the mod_form_auth module in Apache HTTPD 2.4.3, I am looking for a way to have the user redirected to their original desired target after completing a login. That is, if I have a <Location /protected> ... form auth config here </Location> the user might browse to /protected/a, or to protected/b. In either case, they will be presented with the login form. However, as far as I can see, I must specific a single 'success' URL. I'm wondering if I'm missing some Apache feature that would allow me to, for example, cause the redirect to the login form go to something like: https://login.html?origTarget=/protected/a via some syntax on the AuthForLoginRequiredLocation statement?

• Mouse wheel scrolls down, but not up?

  I've set up a new machine with Ubuntu 12.04 (x64) and have notice that the mouse wheel scrolls down fine, but when I scroll up, it pages down! I've run xev and have verified that scroll up is registering as button 4 and scoll down is button 5. So everything there is fine. I think that button 4 is somehow mapped to page down instead of scroll up. Any idea how to fix? NOTE: I've read the Ubuntu instructions on how to use imwheel to change mouse button mappings, but it doesn't work on 12.04. See here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/imwheel/+bug/1004812

  I have ubuntu 11.04 with all the latest updates. I have an ATI HD 4350 graphics card and the "ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver" activated. The reported behaviour does not affect the functionality, its just an optical thing. When I booted up using the desktop CD, the ubuntu boot splash was shown correctly in high resolution.
