  • Why won't title attributes get indexed in Google?

    When I search for Ride On + my site's name, I see that it's indexed. But when I search for Green Horse + my site's name, I don't see my site appearing in the results anywhere! Here's my code: <td><a href="#" title="Green Horse Ride">Ride On</a></td> Does this mean that title attributes are not indexed/shown by Google at all? What is better to use, alt? What are the other alternatives except title and alt?

    Can I get your feedback on the best tools to build an auction website with the following features: The site takes a commission (like 5%) on each transaction Each user can assign a rating (like 4.5 stars) to his completed transaction, and comment on the seller's profile. Accept payments in paypal and credit card I've been looking into Joomla! and JomSocial but they haven't convinced me much so far. I have some programming experience in C, Python and Java.   • Domain forwarding to a IE "trusted site" opens a blank page

    My employer, a University, regularly hosts conferences and other events. While websites for these sites are hosted on our domain, they frequently request customized .com urls. We then forward these domains to the specific site. Recently, we discovered a problem, where a page will not load if the following conditions are met(using a current example): website is created on our CMS for a conference http://continue.weber.edu/nulc a domain is created http://www.nulc2012.com and forwarded to http://continue.weber.edu/nulc The user enters http://www.nulc2012.com into their address bar using IE7 or IE8 The user has *.weber.edu listed as a "trusted site" in IE security settings (the case for nearly all on-campus computers) When this happens, their browser will correctly transfer to the page http://continue.weber.edu/nulc/index.php, however the page is blank, returning only: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META content="text/html; charset=windows-1252" http-equiv=Content-Type></HEAD> <BODY></BODY></HTML> Is there any know solution to this problem? Or am I missing something completely? Note: Tested websites do load correctly in Chrome, Firefox, and Safari

  • Google Blogger Website CName and/or Text File Issues

    I have a blogger Blog website and I would like to have it show up on my company website. I have read a couple articles out there on how to do it. A hand full of them talk about using FTP which is old and no longer available. However, I am trying to following along with this one: http://www.infinite42.com/small-business/integrate-blogger-blog-website Which seems pretty easy but I am having a problem getting Google to Verify the DNS CName or Text Record that I created on my Windows 2007 Server. Do I need to create this record at the registra level. Right now the domain is setup at the registra to point the www record to my server where on my server I tried the Txt Record and the CName Record with no luck in DNS. Here are the Google instructions for creating a CName file record in DNS: Follow the steps below to create a DNS (Domain Name System) record that proves to Google that you own the domain. Add the CNAME record below to the DNS configuration for abc.com. CNAME Label / Host: CNAME Destination / Target: Click Verify below. When Google finds this DNS record, we'll make you a verified owner of the domain. (Note: DNS changes may take some time. If we don't find the record immediately, we'll check for it periodically.) To stay verified, don't remove the DNS record, even after verification succeeds. Here is the link to do it with a CName: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2012/08/domain-verification-using-cname-records.html When I go to add my CName record on my server's DNS the only two fields available are Alias Name and Fully Qualified Domain Name.     We are going through our site analysing the SEO. I find that sometimes on a google results page, some results show a date, others don't. Example (from same query): I prefer the result not to have the date in it, as 20 Oct 2009 probably has an adverse effect on the clickability of the result. Is this Google putting it in? Or the page itself? Or a combination of both (IE, if over a certain age, it includes date).     Talking with some other people recently, it came up an interesting topic. The core question at hand is: What's the real importance and weight of the <title> tag in a web site? For instance, what are the consequences if a site has the same <title> tag on all the pages, reporting only the site name? Or better (or worse) no title tag at all? Will that be a little/medium/huge SEO problem? How will the pages appear on search engines? Will fixing it in a later stage be problematic since pages have already been indexed? How does it compromise the overall usability/accessibility/experience? Is that a "feature" that can be omitted, or it can't even be considered a "feature" but a core element? I have quite my opinion on this topic, but I'd really love to hear what other experts (you) think about it.

    I would say most websites with a somewhat thought-through graphical design use social media icons (i.e twitter, facebook, youtube, et.c) which are altered to fit the theme and design of the site. Now, my boss insist we only use the ones provided by say facebook or twitter themselfes (in fear of getting sued or lose credability), but sometimes it just doesnt look very good on the site. What is the common practice for these things? What do you risk by using an altered logo? What should I tell my boss? I'll provide a few examples, what'd happen if I put any of these on a site?

  • My events don't show up in the goal funnels or conversion funnels

    I have an event set up on a website and I'd like to track the effect this event has on conversion rate. The event seems to be working fine - I can see it on Top Events with all the labels, etc. But when going into Goal Flow and selecting 'Event Category' these events don't show up. I have this running for about a week. And I have made multiple checks to verify that I have events that triggered the conversion goal. Any clue about what I'm doing wrong?

    I am busy writing a WordPress plugin. Now most users have cache plugins installed, they cache the pages. I know also some webservers as nginx have php caching and whatnot. There are also things like memcached. Now I have to admit I do not know exactly how they work, if anyone have some good links on how they work I would be glad. Some links where it's explained simple, not to technical. Now the question. My plugin displays different statistics on posts, they are always different, will this break the caching of the page. To take is a step further, sometimes the statistics of the post needs updating, and there is a small javascript snippet added to the page. Now will these two action result in the page not caching, or am I ok.

    I'm trying to set up an exclusion filter with a browser cookie, so that my own visits to my don't show up in my Google Analytics. I tried 3 different methods and none of them have worked so far. I would like help understanding what I am doing wrong and how I can fix this. This has now set a __utmv cookie containing "test_value", whereas the original: pageTracker._setVar('test_value') (which Google is still recommending) did not manage to do that for me (in Mac Safari 5 and Firefox 3.6.8). So I tried this code, but it didn't work for me. How can I exclude myself from my Google Analytics using an exclusion cookie for my browser? Update I've been testing this for several days now, and I've confirmed that the 2nd method of excluding yourself from tracking does indeed work. The problem was that the filter settings weren't properly applied to my profile, which has been corrected. See the accepted answer below.

CSS and JS) are made and saved in UTF-8 encoding In PHP, I set the char-set on top of the main page (this page includes all others) with: header('Content-type: text/html; charset=utf-8'); In the same page I have this html meta tag: <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> Then I stubled upon an external css file that has this on first line: @charset "UTF-8"; And now I wonder, should I set the charset INSIDE all my CSS/JS files too, like that? And/or should I serve each file with charset=utf-8 in the meta tag?

  • How to safely collect bank account from website?

    I want to collect bank account information from my customers on my website. I'd like to do that trough a form, then I will download it to a PC, print it, and then delete it from the website. Or eventually, send it somewhere external right after the user submitted the form so it never gets stored on the website. The goal is to recieve the payment information without having to ask the customer to print, fill manually, and send it over fax. And accomplish this without having to use an external payment gateway.   • beginner - best way to do a 'Confirm' page? [closed]

    I am a beginning web app developer, wondering about the best way to implement a "Confirm Page" upon form submission. I have heard that it's best for the script that a form POSTs to to be implemented by handling the POST data and then redirecting to another page, so the user isn't directly viewing the page that was POSTed to. My question is about the best way to implement a "Confirm before data save" page. Do I Have my form POST to a script, which marshals the data, puts in a GET, and redirects to the confirm page, which unmarshals and displays the data in another form, where the user can then either confirm (which causes another POST to a script that actually saves the data) or deny (which causes the user to be redirected back to the original form, with their input added)? Have my form POST directly to the confirm page, which is displayed to the user and then, like #1, gives the user the option to confirm or deny? Have my form GET the confirm page, which then does the expected behavior? I feel like there is a common-sense answer to this question that I am just not getting.

I have checked through the files and can't spot any Malware that might have been inserted anywhere and no additional files have been added from what I can see. In the diagnostics Malware section og googles webmaster tools for the site it says "Malware Google has not detected any malware on this site." Also on stopbadware.org the website is not on their clearing house. The site is melfordschoolofmotoring.co.uk. So why is google detecting malware?

  • Magento 1.6.2 Catalog Price Rule Problem

    My Magento system seems to have a slight issue with Catalog Price Rule application. As far as the customer is concerned, all is working perfectly. The problem is that some orders are not being displayed properly in the admin system when I look at the details. The Catalog Price rule appears to not be applied - so when we reconcile our card processor details with those in our backend Sage system, numbers are not tallying up. Magento and out Sage system say the customer paid X, but the card issuer has taken payment of Y. The payment amount is correct due to the Catalog Price Rule. The customer is always paying the correct amount, but because of some issue with Magento, I think the data is possibly not being stored correctly (stored without the catalog price rule discount amount applied). This means that when I look at an order in the admin system, the line item prices that should be affected by the catalog price rule are not - but also the prices in our backend Sage system are incorrect too. We use another piece of software to bring the data into Sage from Magento, so the data must be stored in Magento's database incorrectly somewhere as this software reads out the order information from Magento. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong here, and how it might be fixed? Cheers!
