  • Workflow for statistical analysis and report writing

    Does anyone have any wisdom on workflows for data analysis related to custom report writing? The use-case is basically this: Client commissions a report that uses data analysis, e.g. a population estimate and related maps for a water district. The analyst downloads some data, munges the data and saves the result (e.g. adding a column for population per unit, or subsetting the data based on district boundaries). The analyst analyzes the data created in (2), gets close to her goal, but sees that needs more data and so goes back to (1). Rinse repeat until the tables and graphics meet QA/QC and satisfy the client. Write report incorporating tables and graphics. Next year, the happy client comes back and wants an update. This should be as simple as updating the upstream data by a new download (e.g. get the building permits from the last year), and pressing a "RECALCULATE" button, unless specifications change. At the moment, I just start a directory and ad-hoc it the best I can. I would like a more systematic approach, so I am hoping someone has figured this out... I use a mix of spreadsheets, SQL, ARCGIS, R, and Unix tools. Thanks! PS: Below is a basic Makefile that checks for dependencies on various intermediate datasets (w/ ".RData" suffix) and scripts (".R" suffix). Make uses timestamps to check dependencies, so if you 'touch ss07por.csv', it will see that this file is newer than all the files / targets that depend on it, and execute the given scripts in order to update them accordingly. This is still a work in progress, including a step for putting into SQL database, and a step for a templating language like sweave. Note that Make relies on tabs in its syntax, so read the manual before cutting and pasting.   • Stop execution of python script when parent Bash shell script is killed

    I'm working on a Bash shell script that runs several Python scripts like so: cd ${SCRIPT_PATH} python -u ${SCRIPT_NAME} ${SCRIPT_ARGS} >> $JOBLOG 2>&1 At one point, I killed the shell script (using kill PID), but the Python script continued running, even after the script terminated. I thought these would die as soon as the main script died. What am I misunderstanding about Bash scripting, and what can I do to get the functionality I'm looking for? Thanks in advance!

  • How to get Alfresco login ticket without user password, but with impersonating user with user principal name (UPN)

    I'm writing a DLL that has function for getting Alfresco login ticket without using user password, using only a user principal name (UPN). I’m calling alfresco REST API service /wcservice. I use NTLM in Alfresco. I’m impersonating users using WindowsIdentity constructor as explained here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms998351.aspx#paght000023_impersonatingbyusingwindowsidentity. I checked and user is properly impersonated (I checked WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name property). After impersonating a user, I try to make HttpWebRequest and set its credentials with CredentialsCache.DefaultNetworkCredentials. I get the error: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized. at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() When I use new NetworkCredential("username", "P@ssw0rd") to set request credentials, I get Alfresco login ticket (HttpStatusCode.OK, 200). Is there any way that I can get Alfresco login ticket without user password?   • Microsoft Windows 64-bit application development best practises installation folder.

    My problem is that a vendor is providing me with a 64bit application (packed in a 64bit installer) but it goes and installs to the x86 (Program Files) Folder and he keeps telling me its OK but I want it to install in the Program Files directory; as the 32 bit version does that and scripts for the app are developed based on this assumption. Can someone direct me to the Microsoft recommended best practices for 64bit applications(links). Thanks in advance.

  • Is it possible to stop a javascript with Firebug without using breakpoints?

    Is it possible with Firebug to stop a javascript with a press of a button or a keyboard shortcut instead of stopping it by setting a breakpoint? Why would I like to do this? We have a very dynamic website with lots of animations. It would be a great help if I could just stop the scripts at the moment the animation is doing something I want to inspect. That would be a lot faster than fiddling with the breakpoints.

    I'm using this code as the starting point to an overhaul of our JavaScript framework: $("#get").click(function(){ $("#result").html(ajax_load); $.get( "http://www.google.com", {}, function(responseText){ $("#result").html(responseText); }, "html" ); }); But when the request is made it includes a variable within the URL that I am unfarmiliar with, here is what Firebug says it's requesting: http://www.google.com/?_=1268993359215 How do I get rid of this, when we target our internal scripts it's firing a 404 error :-( Cheers!

  • Include Jquery inside GreaseMonkey script under Google Chrome

    As maybe some of you know google chrome has put some severe limitation on greasemonkey scripts. Chromium does not support @require, @resource, unsafeWindow, GM_registerMenuCommand, GM_setValue, or GM_getValue. And without require, I can't find a way to include jquery library in Greasemonkey script under google chrome. Does anybody have some advice for the matter? Thanks in advance.

  • Is Cold Fusion on Linux/Apache stable?

    I'm working on a site that still has a lot of scripts in Cold Fusion. I need to move it to a new server. I much prefer Apache/Linux instead of IIS/Windows. I've seen some info here and there about running Cold Fusion on Apache/Linux. Is that a stable setup?
