• A very strange problem related to Flash and Java

  Hello, I have created one simple program for showing webcam of the user. It works absolutely fine when i am running without integrating it in my java web application. But as soon as i copy paste the same files in Netbeans 6.8 and try to run it. My swf file is visible but the buttons in it are totally unclickable. I get the message of allow or deny showing webcam but the buttons are not clickable. It makes my application totally useless. I thought it's a minor issue but now it's getting on my nerves. I am trying it since 3 hours but didn't find any solution. I don't think anybody faced this issue till now that's why can't seem to find any thread in any forum on it in google. I am using Netbeans 6.8, Ubuntu, Glassfish V3 and JSF. Thanks in advance :). UPDATE:- It works fine on Windows XP. Then what can be the problem with Ubuntu? Any kind of permission rights that i need to give? 2nd UPDATE:- I think this is bug with Flash. I know you will find me funny but i am not. You can check out on your own if you don't trust me. Now, my question would be, can anybody tell me how do i set height and width of swf? I want it to be 600px width and 500px height. Even the style attribute doesn't work. Can i set height and width from within Flash? because without explicitly setting height and width, it looks very small. I think this should be very easy for all now. Thanks in advance :)

A view that can allow a user to create/delete/insert/update tables should do. I remember using a software similar to this but dont remember what it was. It would also be great if its in PHP.

  Hi all I wonder what is the commonly used method and protocol for a, say, smartphone application to send its data to a web application (where these data should be proceeded and stored). My naive beginner's approach would be something like this: From my smartphone app, use a framework encoding my data object into a json object Send this object via http to a listener addressed by a dedicated URL On the server side, use a JSON parser and store it via ORM etc. into a database Questions: Is this too naive? 2a. If yes: What is the appropiate way to tackle this workflow? 2b. If no: What frameworks to use in JAVA for serializing/deserializing to/from JSON objects? Any example for a json listener in the web? • Database storage for high sample rate data in web app

  I've got multiple sensors feeding data to my web app. Each channel is 5 samples per second and the data gets uploaded bundled together in 1 minute json messages (containing 300 samples). The data will be graphed using flot at multiple zoom levels from 1 day to 1 minute. I'm using Amazon SimpleDB and I'm currently storing the data in the 1 minute chunks that I receive it in. This works well for high zoom levels, but for full days there will be simply be too many rows to retrieve. The idea I've currently got is that every hour I can crawl through the data and collect together 300 samples for the last hour and store them in an hour Domain (table if you like). Does this sound like a reasonable solution? How have others implemented the same sort of systems?

  In my opinion WWW will sooner or later come to full-blown AJAX web-sites, so that we wouldn't have page reloads every time you click somewhere. Now I want you to ask this. What tools and frameworks can one use to make a Java Web-application running on Tomcat have AJAX functionality like "in-place, with no page reloading" table sorting by clicking on its column header, multi-tabs that enable opening at once the new screen to the user without reloading a page, saving data in the database without reloading a page, and other similar things that we do not usually see on web pages. That's all should probably be based on AJAX. But how to integrate this AJAX functionality with existing java web-frameworks, let's say Spring MVC? Or maybe there are other frameworks that better suit such needs but that can be integrated with core Spring?

• How do I generate a connection reset programatically?

  Hi, I'm sure you've seen the "the connection was reset" message displayed when trying to browse web pages. (The text is from Firefox, other browsers differ.) I need to generate that message/error/condition on demand, to test workarounds. So, how do I generate that condition programmatically? (How to generate a TCP RST from PHP -- or one of the other web-app languages?) Caveats and Conditions: It cannot be a general IP block. The test client must still be able to see the test server when not triggering the condition. Ideally, it would be done at the web-application level (Python, PHP, Coldfusion, Javascript, etc.). Access to routers is problematic. Access to Apache config is a pain. Ideally, it would be triggered by fetching a specific web-page. Bonus if it works on a standard, commercial web host. Update: Sending RST is not enough to cause this condition. See my partial answer, below. I've a solution that works on a local machine, Now need to get it working on a remote host.

• Methods of pulling data from a database

  I'm getting ready to start a C# web application project and just wanted some opinions regarding pulling data from a database. As far as I can tell, I can either use C# code to access the database from the code behind (i.e. LINQ) of my web app or I can call a stored procedure that will collect all the data and then read it with a few lines of code in my code behind. I'm curious to know which of these two approaches, or any other approach, would be the most efficient, elegant, future proof and easiest to test.

• Restricting Directory access from web application context

  i have a web application which stores users file in directory which is under webroot directory.. Suppose web application is under 'fileupload' and all files are getting stored in 'xyz' folder under 'fileupload' so now if user points to url say like www.xyzpqr.com/fileupload/xyz/abc.doc, he gets that file. How do i restirct this from happening.. i have thought of putting xyz folder in WeB-inf folder but as my application is very big i have to made changes at too many places.. so is there any way so that without moving the folder to web-inf (restricted folders) i can achieve wat i want..

I'm using google app engine for the backend which lets me use java servlets. The only frightening thing is what happens if someone finds out the value of the cookie? A malicious individual could set that cookie in their browser and access my site, and essentially be logged in as the user associated with it! On the same note, I guess this is why the cookie ids must be difficult to randomly generate, because a malicious user doesn't have to steal someone's cookie - they could just randomly assign cookie values and start logging in as whichever user happens to be associated with that cookie, if any, right? Scary stuff, I feel like I should at least include the username in the client cookie such that when it presents itself to the server, I won't auto-login unless the username+cookieid match in the DataStore. Any comments would be great, I'm new to this and trying to figure out a best practice. I'm not writing a site which contains any sensitive personal information, but I'd like to minimize any potential for abuse all the same, Thanks

  Some times whenever I restart the application, which is built on Java Struts Mysql and Jboss 4.05 Version I get the error as Address already in use: JVM_Bind Only fix that i know is to restart the machine and try again, it will work. Else Some times I do Ctrl-Alt-Del and Stop all the process related to Java, some times this also works. But what is the exact reason and how can we prevent this problem ?

• Suggestion on UPnP presentation

  Hi all, I am working on an embedded device (bit higher end in terms of system resources but still an embedded one) which has lot of media content in it. I am trying to make it UPnP complaint and want to be able to control this device using a UPnP complaint control point/companion device like ipad. The step towards this is to be able to present the playlist content to the user. We thought of using HTML5 as a format to use. But as I am a noob in web technologies, I am not sure whats the best way to produce and present rich dynamic web pages. The content thats presented are video/audio listing that device can play and want this listing to be generated using the user's input criteria. So, what would be the best way to generate these dynamic pages which are rich and rendered as HTML5 pages. (looked at XML & XSLT, but there seems to be some limitations in how well one can use XSLT from some rewviews I saw). • SmartGWT Server File Browser

  Hi All: I have been looking for a SmartGWT example that would show me how to build a File Browser widget that takes the files from the local server's root directory. The user would be shown the files through the browser which they could then select to perform some processing operations. So far I have thought of using SmartGWT's Tree-Data Binding-Load from Local Data Widget and then grabbing a list of the directories using: new File("\").listFiles(); My Question is: Is there a better way to do this? Has someone already thought of this and has an example of their code that I can see? PS: I'm fairly new to GWT and Web Services but fairly competent with Java. • Componentizing complex functionality in an MVC web app

  Hi Everyone, This is question about MVC web-app architecture, and how it can be extended to handle componentizing moderately complex units of functionality. I have an MVC style web-app with a customer facing credit card charge page. I've been asked to allow the admins to enter credit card payments as well, for times when credit cards are taken over the phone. The customer facing credit card charge section of the website is currently it's own controller, with approximately 3 pages and a login. That controller is responsible for: Customer login credential authentication Credit card data collection Calling a library to do the actual charge. reporting the results to the user. I would like to extract the card data collection pages into a component of some kind so that I can easily reuse the code on the admin side of the app. Right now my components are limited to single "view" pages with PHP style embedded Perl code. This is a simple, custom MVC framework written in Perl. Right now, controllers are called directly from the framework to service web requests. My idea is to allow controllers to be called from other controllers, so that I can componentize more complex functionality. For simplicity I think I prefer composition over inheritance, even though it will require writing a bunch of pass-through methods (actions). Being Perl, I could in theory do multiple inheritance. I'm wondering if anyone with experience in other MVC web frameworks can comment on how this sort of thing is usually done. Thank you.

  Is it possible to compile some code-behind (.cs) files (eg. all .cs file under a particular folder) into one DLL, and the rest into another DLL? We have some common codes and pages (aspx + cs files) that we want to use across many websites. We want this to compile into a DLL (eg. Common.dll). The rest of the files will be website-specific, unique to each website and should compile into another DLL (eg. Website3.dll) This is so that if we make changes to a common code-behind, we can just publish Common.dll onto all our websites. Is that possible using VS Web Developer Express 2008? During the past years I noticed that a loot of my small applications that I write in my free time to ease my life could also be useful for some of my friends. They asked me to get them a copy.   We have several web applications running on several load-balanced servers. We want to have our web applications communicate with each other without first traversing outside the load balancer. For example: http://appA.example.com is running on 192.0.2.1 and 192.0.2.2 http://appB.example.com is also running on 192.0.2.1 and 192.0.2.2 The load balancer's public IP address is 198.51.100.3 By default, when appA on 192.0.2.1 makes a call to a WCF service hosted in appB, the HTTP request is routed to 192.51.100.3; this establishes a new session and the load balancer will direct the call to either of the two servers We want the call to be routed to the instance of appB running on the same server so we add 192.0.2.1 appB.example.com to the hosts file on 192.0.2.1. This eventually works, but we either have to wait for the app pool to naturally recycle or do a manual reset before appA sees the new address. Is there any way to have the change automatically detected without having to recycle the app pool?

When I was using windows XP I had an application (i think it was Zone alarm) which always notified me when an application tried to access the internet. I wonder if there is an application in Ubuntu which would do the same task. If it is possible, please suggest a gui application. the problem is, my internet provider allows me to connect to a single host at a time, that means no two applications can use internet at the same time. When i checked system monitor it showing me that internet is working fine still my browser cant browse.So i want to kill the other application using the internet to browse.
