    In gmail can we make is:unread the default view? That is, when we load gmail can we configure it so that is:unread is already selected, thereby showing only unread messages by default? Or can we at least configure gmail so that it has a 1 click link that only shows unread mail? The reason for this of course is that it is slow and inefficient to have to type is:unread into the gmail search every time I open it. It would be much more convenient for gmail to load this view by itself when I open gmail.

    I have an ubuntu server 11.10 with apache 2.2.20, php 5.3.6 and an installation of Joomla cms. I have used an extra hard disk as my web server storage and mounted it into /data/www/ (I hope it's not where my problem us!). I've set permission of all files and folders in my web root to 755 and user groups for them is set to [default ubuntu user(in my case radio)]:www-data. In past days I had serious problems with joomla not showing new uploaded images and other files and also I can't install any extensions. After hours of searching I found out that uploaded files don't have appropriate permission (they are -rw-------) and Joomla application cannot read, copy or move them after upload. I’m wondering how can I set a default permission so all files that I upload use it? PS: I’ve tested umask but it did nothing. I think it has nothing to do with my problem.

    Is there a plugin (or a setting) in Sublime Text 2 to set the default file location for saving files? As of now, when I open Sublime Text 2 for the first time, create a file and try to save it, the file location option defaults to: C:\Windows\System32 I would like to set the default save file location to my Desktop so that everytime I want to save a file, the File windows opens the Desktop view. (the same idea as what can be configured e.g. in MS Word / MS Excel). Thanks for any tips!

    Are there any security concerns one should be aware of if you're using Windows' default workgroup as the workgroup? (Or is worrying just tinfoiling?) Should it be commonplace to rename the workgroup to something personal/unique after Windows installation? Are there any other benefits in renaming the workgroup from the default besides making it to look more describing? Ie. is renaming worth the hassle as it makes the workgroup generally less accessible? It is used in local area network after all.

I have tried the usual way of changing the size—by clicking in the upper-left corner and choosing “Properties”—but it tells me: Unable to modify the shortcut: . Check to make sure it has not been deleted or renamed. (yes, there is a dot in the middle of the error message) I also tried right-clicking on the PowerShell shortcut in the Start menu and changing properties there, however, the changes don’t seem to stick.

    I've got Netatalk & Avahi running on a local Ubuntu server--I use two different userids, "afp" for Time Machine and "stew" to access my media files etc. In order to mount a shared directory on my server, I have to click "Connect As..." and enter my userid/password every time, because it always tries to log in using Time Machine's userid. I'm not sure if this is because that userid is set as default, or just because it's the last userid that logged in to that server--either way: Is there a way to change the default userid for connecting to a given server? Mega extra credit: I'd love to have this automated, such that my userid, "stew", is always logged in (and heck, it'd be great to have the directories always mounted, too!) whenever the server is available.   • How can I follow someone from my non-default account?

    In Tweetdeck I have two accounts; a default one and a secondary one. I have them both in separate columns. However, when a person crops up in my non-default account column that I want to follow I can't seem to find a way to follow them from that account. Hovering over the 'Follow' button brings up the tooltip saying 'From {@Account A}' but no way to switch to the other account. Aside from opening up the link in my browser, signing into Twitter from my second account and then finding the user that way, can I do it directly from Tweetdeck?

    I have a rather perculiar issue with routing. Coming back to routing after not having to worry about configuration for it for a year, I am using the default route and ignore route for resources: routes.IgnoreRoute("{resource}.axd/{*pathInfo}"); routes.MapRoute( "Default", // Route name "{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional }); I have a RulesController with an action for Index and Lorem and a Index.aspx, Lorem.aspx in Views Rules directory. I have an ActionLink aimed at Rules/Index on the maseter page: <li><div><%: Html.ActionLink("linkText", "Index", "Rules")%></div></li> The link is being rendered as http://localhost:12345/Rules/ and am getting a 404. When I type Index into the URL the application routes it to the action. When I change the default route action from "Index" to "Lorem", the action link is being rendered as http://localhost:12345/Rules/Index adding the Index as it's no longer on the default route and the application routes to the Index action correctly. I have used Phil Haack's Routing Debugger, but entering the url http://localhost:12345/Rules/ is causing a 404 using that too. I think I've covered all of the rookie mistakes, relevant SO questions and basic RTFMs. I'm assuming that "Rules" isn't any sort of reserved word in routing. Other than updating the Routes and debuugging them, what can I look at?

  • How do I change the default browser in lotus notes when opening links in emails?

    I can't seem to figure out how to change the default browser for email/sametime links from opening with lotus notes to say chrome/firefox/ie. All links open with a new tab in lotus notes, which always gives scripting errors as it appears to be using ie as it's rendering engine to open up webpages. Is there something in the preferences that I'm missing that I'm not seeing? I've hunted around for awhile and am not seeing an option to change it. I've also tried to change it within the internet options for default applications, but nothing's working. I'm using lotus notes 8 on windows xp if that helps anyone helping me.

    I have a fresh install of Karmic Koala. In a botched attempt at trying to change my default window manager, I somehow removed at least three applets from the notification area: network manager (nm-applet), volume control (gnome-volume-control-applet), and the battery meter (???). Now if I logout and back in, these applets don't run, but I can start them from the command line. Because it's a fresh install, I completely removed my luser account and home directory. After recreating my account, I was frustrated to find that the applets are still missing and no obvious way to add them back. How can I restore the default configuration?

However, if I click on a link to a PDF file on a website, it opens in Internet Explorer.     Using PyDev 2.7.1 in Eclipse 3.7.2, when I hit Ctrl-Alt-Enter to open a new interactive console, I get a dialog asking me what type of console I'd like to start ("Console for currently active editor", consoles for Python, Jython, Iron Python etc.). Now this selection dialog has no default entry and keyboard selection doesn't work, meaning that I have to use my mouse every time I need a new console, which is kind of tedious. I've checked Preferences - PyPev - Interactive Console, but found no interesting options there. Is there any possibility to define a default interactive console type so that I just have to hit Return when the dialog pops up or, even better, skip this question altogether?

Somehow I changed my default display font, the one that Windows uses for system dialog boxes, accept/cancel buttons, pretty much everything in the system (it even goes as far as to change how my the text in my web browser appears). Now everything that it's affected looks like under the effects of the bold button in office (very black and very thick words). This is an inconvenience for example on some mail accounts who use this effect to display unread messages. Is there any way to return it to its default state, non "bold" typography for the whole system?

    The default allocation unit size recommended when formatting a drive in our current set-up is 4096 bytes. I understand the basics of the pros and cons of larger and smaller sizes (performance boost vs. space preservation) but it seems the benefits of a solid state drive (seek times massively lower than hard disks) may create a situation where a much smaller allocation size is not detrimental. Were this the case it would at least partially help to overcome the disadvantage of SSD (massively higher prices per GB). Is there a way to determine the 'cost' of smaller allocation sizes specifically related to seek times? Or are there any studies or articles recommending a change from the default based on this newer tech? (Assume the most average scattering of sizes program files, OS files, data, mp3s, text files, etc.)

  • What is the fastest way to insert 100 000 records from one database to another?

    I have a mobile application. My client has a large data set ~100.000 records. It's updated frequently. When we sync we need to copy from one database to another. I have attached the second database to the main, and run an insert into table select * from sync.table. This is extremely slow, it takes about 10 minutes I think. I noticed that the journal file gets increased step by step. How can I speed this up? EDITED 1 I have indexes off, and I have journal off. Using insert into table select * from sync.table it still takes 10 minutes. EDITED 2 If I run a query like select id,invitem,invid,cost from inventory where itemtype = 1 order by invitem limit 50 it takes 15-20 seconds. One of these is the requirement to use a proxy server for Internet traffic. However, some of our internal servers are not recognized by the corporate DNS, so we need to provide the fully qualified domain name. For W7, we make changes to the Internet Properties for IE8 and Chrome to include our domain name as an exception to the proxy server (e.g., *.foobar.com). The problem is that a group policy that does not include our domain name is continually pushed out to my systems throughout the day. This requires me to make the appropriate changes to the Internet Properties several times a day in order to access our internal servers. Is there a way that I can prevent the group policy from being pushed to my systems or detect when the group policy is pushed and override it? I am an administrator on all of my systems. I do have Firefox installed which is not subject to the same group policy push, but I need to have IE8 and Chrome working.

Applications running on foo.com can connect to localhost:25 to deliver mail, with [email protected] as sender. However I recently noticed that some spammers are able to send spam to me while passing the SPF checks. Upon further inspection, it looks like they connect to my Postfix server and then say HELO bar.com MAIL FROM:<[email protected]> <---- this! RCPT TO:<[email protected]> DATA From: "Buy Viagra" <[email protected]> <--- and this! ... How do I prevent this? I only want applications running on localhost to be able to say MAIL FROM:<[email protected]>. Here's my current config (main.cf): https://gist.github.com/1283647
