  • getUserPrincipal() in JCIFS / Lan-Manager authentitation level setting in Windows 2k8

    I have to find out in which exact format JCIFS stores the user principal in the "getUserPrincipal()" property. Therefor i created a test Environment like this: Windows Server 2008 Domain Controller Domain named "MYDOMAIN" Many Testusers in Active Directory Tomcat Application Server with my Web Application (which simply reads the user Principal and displays its values). The user should be logged in to the web-application with SSO therefor i need the format that jcifs is using to store the user. (For example user@MYDOMAIN or MYDOMAIN\user...) I tested the Authentication with other SSO frameworks with Kerberos Method and it works as expected. I'm now trying to use SSO through the NTLMHttpFilter of JCIFS. When i try to login i get the following error message: jcifs.smb.SmbException: The parameter is incorrect. jcifs.smb.SmbTransport.checkStatus(SmbTransport.java:541) jcifs.smb.SmbTransport.send(SmbTransport.java:641) jcifs.smb.SmbSession.sessionSetup(SmbSession.java:322) jcifs.smb.SmbSession.send(SmbSession.java:224) jcifs.smb.SmbTree.treeConnect(SmbTree.java:176) jcifs.smb.SmbSession.logon(SmbSession.java:153) jcifs.smb.SmbSession.logon(SmbSession.java:146) jcifs.http.NtlmHttpFilter.negotiate(NtlmHttpFilter.java:189) jcifs.http.NtlmHttpFilter.doFilter(NtlmHttpFilter.java:121) Regarding to the documentation i'm using to configure this, this is a know issue with the Group policy. It is stated there, that i have to change the Group policy "Networkaccess: lan-manager authentication level" to respond to NTLMv1 request. I have done this, but it's still not working. So what i also have to configure is the same policy on the client computer. I have to change the policy, so that the client computer sends NTLMv1. But it is always sending NTLMv2 tokens. The problem now is that i'm somehow not able to change this setting. (I already was before) because the dropdown box to choose the authentication method is "greyed out". edit: just to make this clear, this dialog is on the client-side in the "local-security policies" As you can see from this screenshot, the chosen method is "Only send NTLMv2 responses" which is the wrong setting and i'm pretty sure that this is causing the error above. My question is now, why can't i change this setting? Why is it greyd out?

  • Is there a way to apply a GPO to all but selective users? (SBS 2008)

    I've created a GPO in SBS 2008 that deploys and updates software. Unfortunately, one of our VPN users lives out in the sticks and has severe latency, so the start up processes and updates time out and take an awfully long time, if they ever complete at all. I'd like to apply this GPO to all auth'd users except for him, without having to create a new custom user group. Any thoughts?

    In Windows XP, there are two settings in Group Policy I'm looking at: Password must meet complexity requirements Store password using reversible encryption Both of these settings are under Local Computer Policy/Computer Config/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Account Policies/Password Policy. For the first one, I have found the setting in RSOP_SecurityEventLogSettingBoolean class in WMI. However, I can't find the latter. Does anybody know in which class in WMI can I read that particular setting?

    Hi I try to show the Mail Control Panel item in Windows 2008 R2. I only type the Name "Mail" in to the "Show only specified Contol Panel items Properties" in the Group Policy. In Windows 2008 R2 that doesn't work and theres no item in the Control Panel to configure Outlook 2010 Profiles. I already tried with: Mail and Mail(32-bit).     I just followed How to use Group Policy to remotely install software in Windows Server 2003 to try publishing a software (MSI file). I could follow all the steps, but the supposedly successfully published software does not appear on client/user machine's Add/Remove Programs. Could some help figure why this may not be working. Update: On reading this question on Experts-Exchange, tried gpresults.     I am trying to create a locked down Windows 8 account using Group Policies with no tiles on the start screen except for one for the purposes of a Kiosk PC. How can I (as an administrator account) install a custom application (side-loading) for another user and pin it to their start menu? This application is still in development so will need to be updated frequently on the locked account for testing.

    I am setting up a business partner portal in our Sharepoint server. There will be an AD group with permissions limited to viewing and possibly contributing to the specific business partner site and employees of our business partners will have accounts created for them as needed. Now we would like to let our business development group(BDG) have control over the partner accounts. Ideally they should be able to add and delete accounts and change permissions on them. The BDG are not domain admins so we don't want to give them access to the domain controller. We want to create an Infopath form that will allow them to do all this. Is it possible to create and manage AD accounts from within an Infopath form on the sharepoint server? I searched this site and MSDN and can not find anything specifically related to my question.

    We have had several cases of file deletion in one of our windows file servers. Server is also a domain controller. Unfortunately we kept the auditing disabled completely due it being such a resource hog. So I was wondering If there is a way to audit a specific folder for a specific security group, for just file and folder deletions within the specified folder.     I have couple of windows 7 entprise virtual machines in collection as part of VDI environment - so users connecting to them through RDS 2012 web site. Is there any way to fix resolution of remote desktops, that user receives (instead of full screen all time) ? I've tried different group policies, but none of them are worked, probably because all those policies are for RDS sessions and not virtual desktops ... And i don't know how to limit resolution locally on win7 machine itself, so connecting users will receive fixed resolution.

    I need some good advise. I have used Access for many years and I use Sharepoint but never the two combined. My newly created Access db needs to be shared with many users across the organization. The back end is SQL and the old way to distribute the database would be placing the db on a shared drive, connecting their PC ODBC connections to the SQL db and then they would open the database and have at it. This has become the OLD way. What is the best (and simpliest) way to allow the end users to utilize a frontend for data entry/edit reporting etc. Can I create a link through SharePoint and the user just open it from there. Your good advise is greatly approciated.

    Does anyone know where to find various arguments for msi's, such as installing/running as administrator, or restart after installation. I am trying to push out an msi update through group policy, but after testing the msi I found out that it needs to be run as administrator to install, and that for it to begin working fully the computer needs to be rebooted.     I'm going to preface this with a warning: My knowledge about servers and networking is VERY limited, and if you provide me with technical answers, I probably won't understand much until I research your answer further. I'm trying to expand my knowledge and learn about it, though. If the information that I am able to provide in this question is insufficient to answer the question, I understand, and it can be closed. We have a SharePoint 2007 system that is extremely slow, mostly from huge amounts of use. We've been told that the main speed bottleneck is the access to the sql databases. However, they do provide a statistics dashboard, so I did some poking around, and noticed that we have 11.5 million or more 401 - access denied errors every month. Could this be causing major speed/performance decreases? Authentication for sharepoint uses active directory.

    Is there a way, using Windows GPO, to set up a list of "default" mapped drives that can be applied to a group of users? I runs small network and would like to make sure that certain groups of users (like Sales or Support) have the same network shares mapped to the same drive letters irrespective of which PC they log onto. This would make the setup of new users easier and allow the centralised administration of the network locations shared. Any links to examples and/or step-by-step guides would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi, I have a list of duplicate numbers: Enumerable.Range(1,3).Select(o => Enumerable.Repeat(o, 3)).SelectMany(o => o) // {1,1,1,2,2,2,3,3,3} I group them and get quantity of occurance: Enumerable.Range(1,3).Select(o => Enumerable.Repeat(o, 3)).SelectMany(o => o) .GroupBy(o => o).Select(o => new { Qty = o.Count(), Num = o.Key }) Qty Num 3 1 3 2 3 3 What I really need is to limit the quantity per group to some number. If the limit is 2 the result for the above grouping would be: Qty Num 2 1 1 1 2 2 1 2 2 3 1 3 So, if Qty = 10 and limit is 4, the result is 3 rows (4, 4, 2). The Qty of each number is not equal like in example. The specified Qty limit is the same for whole list (doesn't differ based on number). Thanks

    Hi, I have a parent child relationship, let's say class and children. Each child belongs to a class and has a grade. I need to select the children (or the ids of the children) with the lowest grade per class. session.CreateCriteria(typeof(Classs)) .CreateAlias("Children", "children") .SetProjection(Projections.ProjectionList() .Add(Projections.Min("children.Grade")) .Add(Projections.GroupProperty("Id")) ) .List<Object[]>(); This query returns me the lowest grade per class, but I don't know which child got the grade. When I add the children's Id to the group, the group is wrong and every child gets returned. I was hoping we could just select get the id's of those childs without grouping them. If this is not possible, then maybe there is a way to solve this with subqueries?
