• noindex, follow on list views?

  On one of our client's website we have lot's of list views with links to detail views. (Image a blog with the posts overview and the single pages). The detail views don't change, but the list views will change when new items come up. The pages displaying the list view don't contain any other valuable content. So my question is: Does it make sense to define meta "noindex, follow" on the list view pages (and of course "index, follow" on the detail views) to prevent search engines to point to the list views when the keyword is found in the title or teaser of the list view. By the time the visitor clicks on the list view search result it might have changed and the content is not visible anymore, whereas if he goes directly to the single view he will definitly find what he was searching for? Related question: The startpage also contains mainly a list view. Is it a bad idea to have the start page not indexed? Any SEO gurus here? :) Thanks, Fabrizio.

• Storing script files outside web root

  I've seen recommendations to store some or all php include files some place other than in the web document root directory (username/public_html in my case) for the specific reason of protecting php files with sensitive information (like database connection and login info) in the event that the web server hiccups and stops protecting php files and they become 'visible' to outsiders who know where to look. It seems somewhat paranoid to me, but I'm guessing people have gotten burned badly on this before so I'm willing to go along. The suggestion usually takes the form of having the include files in something like '../include_files/' so its not directly in the document root and not directly accessible to outsiders through the web server. My question is this: is there a significant difference in security between that way and just putting your 'include_files' directory under the document root and sticking an .htaccess file in there (with the appropriate entries)? Would putting an .htaccess file in '../include_files/' make any significant improvement there? TIA, Monte

• VB.NET: Scrollbar "button"?

  I plan on using a scrollbar for, well, scrolling an image. The image is 200x500, however, the only visible area is 200x250. So I set the max value to 250, and the min value to 0. The idea is that if I drag the scrollbar's button to the bottom, 250 pixels will have moved for the image, right? But wait, the scrollbar's button is.... very small. And the scrollbar is actually pretty long. Is there a way to make the scrollbar's button longer?

• UITableView becomes invisible after changing data in it

  Hi I have application with TabBar that control several views. In one view i control connection to different servers.Each server provides different set of items. I display these items in UITableView on other view. I create table view like this UITableView * aTableView = [[UITableView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(X,Y,Width,Height) style:UITableViewStyleGrouped]; [[self view] addSubview:aTableView]; aTableView.da taSource = self; The problem is that Table view displayed ok first time , but if i go back to view number one and change server(changing list of items that should be displayed in table view), table view becomes invisible for some reason. If i tap on the screen in place where it should be, its becomes visible again. Ive tried to call to reloadData and setNeedDisplay in viewWillAppear of the UIViewController that hosts this table view, but without success. Any advice? Thanks

• Why isn't Xcode building a file in my project

  I have a static library project that I inherited from another developer. I added a class to the project and built it. When I include the static lib in another project, the build fails with a symbol not found error for the class that I added. I looked at the build logs for the static lib project and I noticed that the .m file isn't compiled. The file is clearly visible in Xcode, right next to all of the other class files. Can anyone think of a reason that the file wouldn't be built? How does Xcode discover the files that it builds?

  Hi, I am devolping a web application.the problem is that i am using a login control (not a .NET control) which is a part of master page and is acessible from all pages. if user log In from a page the login control updates itself and displlay some statistics of logged In user but the specific page does not reload. (some options on page are visible only to authenticated users, so that after login, page should be reloaded to display such options) after logIn methoed I wrote Reponse.Redirect(Request.Url.AbsoluteUri) after this the browser response the "Page cannot be displayed" It would be of great help to me. • NHibernate Linq queries not returning data saved in the same transaction

  Hi, I have a situation where I am using NHibernate in a WCF service and using a TransactionScope for the transaction management. NHibernate enlists in the ambient transaction fine, but, any changes I make and save inside the transaction, are not visible to any queries I make while still in that transaction. So if I add an entity and session.save() it, then further on in the code, there is a linq query against that entities table, the entity I just added is not returned. Strangely this seems to work fine if I use explicit NHibernate transactions in my tests. Anyone have any ideas as to why and what I can do about it? Many thanks Andrew

• OCL constraints intended prevent node creation in an GMF generated editor only makes it invisible

  Hello, I am working on editors created with GMF and struggling with OCL right now. Is there a possibilty to prevent a node to be created if an OCL statement in the mapping evaluates to false? If tried adding an OCL statement to a node and all it does is making the node not visible in the editor, but it is created. There is also an OCL statement in the ecore file, but this way it is only evaluated when there should be something done with the created model. I does not prevent a user to construct an invalid model but this is what I intend to prevent. Thanks in advance, Morph

• Swing- focus problem

  Hi, In my application I have a frame, with toolbar (the toolbar contains some actions). I want the toolbar to be visible only when the window is focused. So, I registered a windowFocusListener on the window. The problem is- when the window is not focused and I click on the place where a tool bar action should be- the action is performed. This happens because the WindowFocusGained is called before the mouse button is released and when the mouse button released it calls the actionPerformed. Does anybody has any idea for a work around for this problem? Does anybody know how to determine wether the mouse button is clicked now?

  Hi all, I'm trying to figure out if I can get what I want out of UIScrollView through some trickery or whether I need to roll my own scroll view I have a series of items in row that I want to scroll through. One item should always be centered in the view, but other items should be visible to either side. In other words, I want normal scrolling and edge bouncing, but I want the deceleration when the user ends a touch to naturally settle at some specified stop point. (Actually now that I think of it, this behavior is similar to coverflow in this respect.)

• Using MSpec runner in Visual Studio 2010 and .NET 4

  Hi Everyone, I'm a big fan of MSpec so naturally I wanted to use is right away with VS2010 as well. I have the MSpec runner defined as an external tool in Visual Studio to be able to have it always visible as a toolbar item. Anyway, whenever I try to use the MSpec runner (mspec.exe) with a .NET 4.0 solution I get the following error: Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:\Users\[SOMEUSER]\[SOME_FOLDERS}\bin\Debug\[PROJECT].Specs.dll' or one of its dependencies. This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded. I can still run my specs with the Resharper 5 runner so it's no big drama, but I bothers me to no end :þ Do you guys have any idea what the problem could be? Is there any solution other than recompiling the whole Mspec source code as a .NET 4.0 solution, which I really, really don't want to do? Thanks in advance. Sergi

  Hi, the following code is to open a console application (which uses pdcurses for output, nothing special): myProcess.StartInfo.FileName = "some.exe"; myProcess.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = false; myProcess.StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = false; myProcess.StartInfo.RedirectStandardInput = true; myProcess.Start(); The Problem is that it opens the designated window but directly closes it (it's barely visible). Starting the program without RedirectStandardInput works. The problem is that it does not throw an exception nor any error-message. What is wrong with my code? How can I write input to the program? • CSS autohide scrollbar when not scrolling on Android webpage

  Is there a way to make the scrollbar auto-hide when a user is not scrolling a webpage on an Android device, but make it visible when it is scrolling? Please note that Firefox browsers does have this behaviour enabled by default, it's just Chrome and stock(Samsung, HTC) browsers that don't. • Should I use the Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM) pattern in Silverlight projects?

  One challenge with Silverlight controls is that when properties are bound to code, they're no longer really editable in Blend. For example, if you've got a ListView that's populated from a data feed, there are no elements visible when you edit the control in Blend. I've heard that the MVVM pattern, originated by the WPF development community, can also help with keeping Silverlight controls "blendable". • Drupal - editing tab options for a content type not showing up

  I'm working on a D5 site and a lot of the content types have the menus at the top of the edit page. Examples: Overview | Grants | Dev load | Dev render | Edit | Revisions | Track | Workflow Overview | Dev load | Dev render | Edit | Revisions | Track | Workflow | Node queue | RelatedContent I'm not sure where these tabs come from, but I need to enable the menu for a content type that doesn't have them visible. I checked the workflow setting and the content type in question was specified to use workflow. So there should be at least another tab in addition to edit. The end goal is to have revisions show up in the menu, but I need to get the menu showing first. Any ideas where to start looking?

  From Excel, I need to open an Access database and run one of the database's macros. I'm using Excel and Access 2007. Each time I run this, I get the following error: Runtime error '2485': Microsoft Access Office can't find the object 'RunQueries.' I have also tried: appAccess.DoCmd.RunMacro "RunQueries" and I get the same errors message. Any idea how to do this? By the way, I could go into a long explanation about why I need to do this, but let me just say that I've already argued against it, and I have to do it this way (meaning, I have to use Excel as a frontend to open several Access dbs and run their macros).

• @font-face and CSS3 working locally but not on hosting

  Hello chaps and chapettes, I've got a bit of a strange one for you (so to speak). I've devised a little 'coming soon' page for my site which, locally, (on a WAMP setup) is working flawlessly - in capable browsers (i.e. Chrome and Safari), the page looks fine and has a nice little CSS3 transition effect upon hover. And in other browsers, the page visibly looks (practically) identical and the hover effect still works, just without the transition. After uploading to my hosting, the site still looks fine and works fine in Chrome and Safari, but for some reason in Firefox, the @font-face declarations don't seem to have worked and in IE the layout is slightly different. I'm massively puzzled! The files are identical on my hosting to what I have locally. • DebuggerDisplay attribute does not work as expected!

  Dear ladies and sirs. I know that this attribute should work in C# and yet, in my case it does not. I have a class with a lazy property Children. Accessing this property may have a side effect of roundtripping to the server. So, naturally, I do not want this to happen when I just watch it in the debugger watch window. Omitting all the irrelevant details the source looks pretty ordinary: [DebuggerDisplay("(Frozen) {m_children}")] public IList<IEntityBase> Children { get { if (m_children == null) { m_children = FetchChildrenFromDB(this); } return m_children; } } And yet, when I watch the object and expand this in the watch window I do not see (Frozen) in the display, meaning the debugger simply ignores the attribute. Problem is contextual menu should be visible only if user right-clicks on an item and it should be customized as per the item selected. How do I get whether/which item is selected from QPoint information? I am on Qt 4.5.3.

• Prototype mouseleave for two elements

  I have created a small navigation element that is positioned right on top of another element. It is only shown when a user mousenters/mouseovers the main element. I am having some trouble with the prototype. I would like this small nav element to be hidden when a user mouses out of the main box, but I would also like the small nav element to remain visible if a user mouses out of the main box but mouses into the small nav at the same time. This is my attempt so far with some pseudo-code to hopefully explain: $('main_box').observe('mouseenter', function(){ $('small_div').show() }) $('main_box').observe('mouseleave', function(){ if this element is $('small_div') then Event.stop() $('small_div').observe('mouseleave', function(){ if this element is $('main_box') Event.stop observe $('main_box') mouseleave else $('small_div').hide(); }) else $('small_div').hide(); }) The main thing I'm having trouble with is figuring out what element the mouse is over at a given point in time. Is there a way to do something like: on mouseleave do blah unless the mouse is over a specific element then do not do blah?

• Android Apps: What is the recommended targetSdk for broadest appeal?

  I have an Android app that only needs internet access and would like to target API level 3 (1.5) to reach the broadest handset base. However, it appears that targeting API level 3 implicitly requires two additional permissions that are visible to users: modify sd card, and read phone state. See: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1747178/android-permissions-phone-calls-read-phone-state-and-identity) So the connundrum, do I target API level 4 and turn away users running 1.5, or do I target API level 3 and turn away users who are upset that my app is requesting so many permissions that it shouldn't need? What is the smartest thing to do here? Are there really a lot of users still limited to API level 3? I appreciate any wisdom offered! Thanks!

• WebSphere MQ Low Latency Messaging - Does it have a JMS (or JMS like) API?

  We are currently using IBM MQ via JMS, but seem to be pushing through more messages than it can handle - strangely, the problem seems to be intermittent. The messages are prices and thus dont need to be guaranteed, just need to be sent quickly. As IBM have a Low Latency product, I am wondering if that is perhaps the better solution - but it does not seem to have a JMS api, or at least not easily visible. Anyone know if there is a JMS api into the Low Latency product, or if the "unique" API it does have is JMS-like... Alternatively, pointers for MQ tuning would also be appreciated... :)
