• Resize broswer window below 400px on OS X

  Resizing Firefox windows (by dragging) works fine, up until the window is about 400 px wide, at which point the width of the web page content cease to follow the window with. I'm pretty sure it's not a CSS issue, and the same thing goes for Chrome and Safari as well (they won't even let me resize the window < 400 px wide). I can't understand where this limitation comes from. Is it a setting in the browser? A bug? A limitation of the OS?

  I am currently trying to make yoast's link cloaking script ( Yoast.com script manual // Github Script files ) work together with the Wordpress plugin Advanced Custom Fields. The script fetches 2 values (redirect id, redirect url) via GET and then redirects to this particular URL which is defined in a .txt file called redirects.txt I would like to change the script, so that I can define both the id and redirection URL via custom fields on each post in my WP dashboard.. I would be really happy if someone could help me to code something that does the same as the script above but without using a redirects.txt file to save the values but furthermore gets those values from custom fields.   I have moved to Asia where my internet connection is censored and I'd like to check my messages from social sites which happen to be blocked. As virtually all proxy servers are blocked in this country, I've decided to attempt to roll my own encrypted proxy server. Please note, the key word here is encrypted—if the sniffer sees anything like f@c3b00k or w:k:p3d:ia travelling down the wire I'm had. I have a website hosted with GoDaddy (Windows with PHP 5.2 & IIS 7). Is there any way I can set up an encrypted proxy through this service? If so, how, and what open source tools are available to use?

• Reviewing an advertiser / ads

  I recently got a direct ad campaign for one of my sites. The advertiser agreed to my price without much bargaining. No contract was signed, but I had specified pre payment as part of our agreement. The advertiser is not a major network. Currently they are showing affiliate ads. Some things about this deal seems fishy to me - The amount was direct deposited to our account, not transferred from their company account. - Just below the visible ad, I can see a hidden iframe which contains the flight search widget for a major airline (Could this be cookie stuffing?) - They are contacting me from a gmail account - They did not insist for a signed contact How can I ensure that the advertiser is legitimate and is not using the adslot for illegal purpose?

• website attack form submission triggering emails related questions

  We are experiencing website attacks that trigger the submission of a form, and send alert emails. Normal process of form submission is to fill up a couple of text fields, and when the user is redirected, the next page processes $_POST. If $_POST exists, then the email to intended form recipients is triggered. What is happening right now, we are receiving the email of the form submission, three emails at a time with same information. The information per email is the same, but not all of the spam emails contain the same information, each batch of triggered emails has unique information. The form has no captcha, and if possible we would like to keep it this way. The website has worked fine and had no spamming problems until today. We have monitoring software for the website, but whoever is submitting this form over and over is not being recorded by the tracking software WHY IS THIS? IS THE PERSON ACTUALLY VISITING THE WEBSITE? The only suspicious visit tracked was on November 10th, and this record ALSO shows three forms submitted (this is how I identified possible first visit by attacker). Then no incidents until today. WHAT IS THE GOAL of the spam attack? Is the attacker expecting us to respond to the bogus emails? What can they achieve with repeated submission of form Why are three emails triggered in the row? Is this indicative that they may be using a script? This is a PHP website. Is there a way for a client to view the PHP code of a page? Thank you

  I want to run a website like stock photos. How can I be sure that the uploader is real copyright holder of the picture? Is it possible to leave the responsibility of this copyright claim to the uploader or at last the webmaster is responsible for the website content? It generally confuses me, as for example, stock photo websites needs form signed by the model for photos showing human face. How they can be sure that the signature actually belongs to the model? How they keep them safe from possible lawsuit in this case (e.g. if selling photos of a models with a fake signature?)

• Looking for a modern payment processor which accepts adult sites

  I love how easy authorize.net is to use, but they don't accept adult sites. I am lanching an adult site soon but I can't find any good credit card processors I can use. Most sites use CCbill or Epoch but they are both terrible since the customer is redirected to their external site which also has an ancient 1990's look. It's not like authorize.net's API that you can query and get the result back as to whether the payment went through or not. This makes authorize.net blend seamlessly with the product. But since adult sites are against their TOS and also paypals, what is a good alternative? I am looking for one that won't redirect the user from my site, is big enough to be reliable and trustworthy and has fairly low rates. Any help is appreciated!

• How can I store post rankings that change with time?

  I'm trying to learn how to code a website algorithm like Reddit.com where there are thousands of posts that need to be ranked. Their ranking algorithm works like this (you don't have to read it, its more of a general question that I have): http://amix.dk/blog/post/19588 Right now I have posts stored in a database, I record their dates and they each have an upvotes and downvotes field so I'm storing their records. I want to figure out how do you store their rankings? When specific posts have ranking values, but they change with time, how could you store their rankings? If they aren't stored, do you rank every post every time a user loads the page? When would you store the posts? Do you run a cron job to automatically give every post a new value every x minutes? Do you store their value? Which is temporary. Maybe, until that post reaches its minimum score and is forgotten?

  I have internal pages that rely on an external API which I would like to build upon user request. Two options I thought about: Make lots of 'thin' pages that specifies that if you want content about X, you need to log-in, and then the page will be built. Pros: user understands what he'll get when logging in. Cons: SEO implications of such a solution due to the mass 'low quality' and 'cross-sites duplicate content' Make them all redirect to ONE same generic log-in page. Pros: No duplicate low quality content. Cons: Lots of internal links to the same log-in page. Which would you recommend?

  I was wandering seeing as Google and others keep trying to get more and more 'human' in terms of rating whats good and whats spam, is it known if they take into account the size of a heading ie. an thats font size is 40px is going to speak allot more to the user than a thats font size is 14px.. similarly does placement factor ? ie. a 300 word article at the bottom of a landing page (not in the footer but bellow the useful content) would just be there for seo purposes. i know they look at if your doing things like text-indent:-9999px; and white text on a white background, but what about these more border line practices that both have legitimate uses but also the possibility to be spammy

• Google search results are invalid

  I'm writing a program that lets a user perform a Google search. When the result comes back, all of the links in the search results are links not to other sites but to Google, and if the user clicks on one, the page is fetched not from the other site but from Google. Can anyone explain how to fix this problem? • Are shorter URLS better for SEO?

But as per my understanding it creates overhead of extra redirection, other can not guess about the target article with their url, and it should be less friendly for "inurl:..." type search. Should I shorten the URLs of my sites? Is there any advantage with short URLs besides the fact that they take fewer characters in anchor tags on the page (good for site loading)?

• Loading main javascript on every page? Or breaking it up to relevant pages?

  I have a 700kb decompressed JS file which is loaded on every page. Before I had 12 javascript files on each page but to reduce http requests I compressed them all into 1 file. This file is ~130kb gzipped and is served over gzip. However on the local computer it is still unpacked and loaded on every page. Is this a performance issue? I've profiled the javascript with firebug profiler but did not see any issues. The problem/illusion I am facing is there are jquery libraries compressed in that file that are sometimes not used on the current page. For example jquery datatables is 200kb compressed and that is only loaded on 2 of my website pages. Another is jqplot and that is another 200kb. I now have 400kb of excess code that isn't executed on 80% of the pages. Should I leave everything in 1 file? Should I take out the jquery libraries and load only relevant JS on the current page?

• Will using two different tracking codes affect my SERP

  Hello everyone and thanks for your time! I am now facing a problem after a site migration. New site is basically an improved version of old site, with the same content and some extras. After pointing the domain name to the new site, the old site was still online for a while but didn't get any traffic. The new site has its own tracking code. So, old tracking code has age (something like 7 years) but no visitors for a month, but new tracking code is a month old with an acceptable traffic. How to you think google will react if I add old tracking code to new site? Thanks by advance!

• How does hreflang interact with geo targeting?

  If I have multiple subfolders that I wish to target at different countries, I'm thinking the ideal set up would be to specify rel="alternative" hreflang with a language AND country code (e.g. en-AU) and ALSO to geotarget that subfolder to the particular country. That way, the pages would be showing up both in the country-specific results (accessed via Search Tools) because of hreflang, AND the more generic country results from regular searches, because of geotargeting. Is this correct? p.s. What would happen if you geotargeted a subfolder which had e.g. pt-BR hreflang value (i.e. Portuguese-Brazil) to just Portugal?

  I have read the Google page event documentation, but I am not sure I understand it correctly. I am new to Google analytics, and I have two questions: Once I have google analytics enabled for my site (i.e. I have inserted the tracking code in my pages etc), do I need to set anything else up (at the Google end - i.e. in my Google analytics account) It is not clear to me how the event data particularly, relating to how the data can be aggregated and analyzed. For instance, if I want to track an event under category category for click action action, I will use the following code snippet: <a href="some-uri.htm" onclick="_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'category', 'action', 'label']);">Do Something</a> For the sake of simplicity, lets say I am interested in monitoring click events in my header and footer, and I want to find which pages the header and or footer is clicked most often. • SVN Checkout folder as local webroot

  I have XAMPP installed and running. I have an SVN working directory (WD) on my local that checks out from the repository. I set up a virtual host in xampp to point to my WD, but my browser (FF) gives me a 500 http status error: Either the server is overloaded or there was an error in a CGI script. When I place a regular folder in the same location with the WD and switch names, it works fine.. Can I not use an SVN working directory as a web root folder?

• What to do with random pages after a 301 redirect?

  Hello, I did a standard 301 redirect for a domain, but the original domain has about 300 pages that have some strength. It doesn't make sense to make them all point back to the new home page because the individual pages are about some topics. Also, there aren't the same pages in the new domain, so where should the original random pages redirect to? I would like to have them rank for the same topics they used to, but without having the original domain giving them strength, they will just stop ranking and die off. What should I do? Thanks, Alex
