• Why are there connections open to my databases?

    - by Everett
    I have a program that stores user projects as databases. Naturally, the program should allow the user to create and delete the databases as they need to. When the program boots up, it looks for all the databases in a specific SQLServer instance that have the structure the program is expecting. These database are then loaded into a listbox so the user can pick one to open as a project to work on. When I try to delete a database from the program, I always get an SQL error saying that the database is currently open and the operation fails. I've determined that the code that checks for the databases to load is causing the problem. I'm not sure why though, because I'm quite sure that all the connections are being properly closed. Here are all the relevant functions. After calling BuildProjectList, running "DROP DATABASE database_name" from ExecuteSQL fails with the message: "Cannot drop database because it is currently in use". I'm using SQLServer 2005. private SqlConnection databaseConnection; private string connectionString; private ArrayList databases; public ArrayList BuildProjectList() { //databases is an ArrayList of all the databases in an instance if (databases.Count <= 0) { return null; } ArrayList databaseNames = new ArrayList(); for (int i = 0; i < databases.Count; i++) { string db = databases[i].ToString(); connectionString = "Server=localhost\\SQLExpress;Trusted_Connection=True;Database=" + db + ";"; //Check if the database has the table required for the project string sql = "select * from TableExpectedToExist"; if (ExecuteSQL(sql)) { databaseNames.Add(db); } } return databaseNames; } private bool ExecuteSQL(string sql) { bool success = false; openConnection(); SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(sql, databaseConnection); try { cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); success = true; } catch (SqlException ae) { MessageBox.Show(ae.Message.ToString()); } closeConnection(); return success; } public void openConnection() { databaseConnection = new SqlConnection(connectionString); try { databaseConnection.Open(); } catch(Exception e) { MessageBox.Show(e.ToString(), "Error", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error); } } public void closeConnection() { if (databaseConnection != null) { try { databaseConnection.Close(); } catch (Exception e) { MessageBox.Show(e.ToString(), "Error", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error); } } }

  • Why does PostgresQL query performance drop over time, but restored when rebuilding index

    - by Jim Rush
    According to this page in the manual, indexes don't need to be maintained. However, we are running with a PostgresQL table that has a continuous rate of updates, deletes and inserts that over time (a few days) sees a significant query degradation. If we delete and recreate the index, query performance is restored. We are using out of the box settings. The table in our test is currently starting out empty and grows to half a million rows. It has a fairly large row (lots of text fields). We are search is based of an index, not the primary key (I've confirmed the index is being used, at least under normal conditions) The table is being used as a persistent store for a single process. Using PostgresQL on Windows with a Java client I'm willing to give up insert and update performance to keep up the query performance. We are considering rearchitecting the application so that data is spread across various dynamic tables in a manner that allows us to drop and rebuild indexes periodically without impacting the application. However, as always, there is a time crunch to get this to work and I suspect we are missing something basic in our configuration or usage. We have considered forcing vacuuming and rebuild to run at certain times, but I suspect the locking period for such an action would cause our query to block. This may be an option, but there are some real-time (windows of 3-5 seconds) implications that require other changes in our code. Additional information: Table and index CREATE TABLE icl_contacts ( id bigint NOT NULL, campaignfqname character varying(255) NOT NULL, currentstate character(16) NOT NULL, xmlscheduledtime character(23) NOT NULL, ... 25 or so other fields. Most of them fixed or varying character fiel ... CONSTRAINT icl_contacts_pkey PRIMARY KEY (id) ) WITH (OIDS=FALSE); ALTER TABLE icl_contacts OWNER TO postgres; CREATE INDEX icl_contacts_idx ON icl_contacts USING btree (xmlscheduledtime, currentstate, campaignfqname); Analyze: Limit (cost=0.00..3792.10 rows=750 width=32) (actual time=48.922..59.601 rows=750 loops=1) - Index Scan using icl_contacts_idx on icl_contacts (cost=0.00..934580.47 rows=184841 width=32) (actual time=48.909..55.961 rows=750 loops=1) Index Cond: ((xmlscheduledtime < '2010-05-20T13:00:00.000'::bpchar) AND (currentstate = 'SCHEDULED'::bpchar) AND ((campaignfqname)::text = '.main.ee45692a-6113-43cb-9257-7b6bf65f0c3e'::text)) And, yes, I am aware there there are a variety of things we could do to normalize and improve the design of this table. Some of these options may be available to us. My focus in this question is about understanding how PostgresQL is managing the index and query over time (understand why, not just fix). If it were to be done over or significantly refactored, there would be a lot of changes.

  • Why does UIWebKit throw a structuralComplexityContribution exception?

    - by Axeva
    I've got a simple UIWebView in my iPhone app that's loading a XHTML document with some SGV embeded. This all works find on the desktop version of Safari, but it crashes in a UIWebView. Here is the Objective C: NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"test" ofType:@"html"]; NSData *fileData = [NSData dataWithContentsOfFile: path]; [svgView loadData: fileData MIMEType: @"text/xml" textEncodingName: @"UTF-8" baseURL: [NSURL fileURLWithPath: path]]; I also tried a MIMEType of application/xhtml+xml, but it didn't help. Here is the HTML:

XTech SVG Demo

  <g style="fill-opacity:0.7;"> <circle cx="6.5cm" cy="2cm" r="100" style="fill:red; stroke:black; stroke-width:0.1cm" transform="translate(0,50)" /> <circle cx="6.5cm" cy="2cm" r="100" style="fill:blue; stroke:black; stroke-width:0.1cm" transform="translate(70,150)" /> <circle cx="6.5cm" cy="2cm" r="100" style="fill:green; stroke:black; stroke-width:0.1cm" transform="translate(-70,150)"/> </g>

All very basic stuff. When it loads on the iPhone, however, it crashes with this error: 2010-03-31 10:37:10.252 ColorDoodle[2014:20b] -[DOMElement structuralComplexityContribution]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x3e51b60 2010-03-31 10:37:10.253 ColorDoodle[2014:20b] Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: ' -[DOMElement structuralComplexityContribution]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x3e51b60' Any idea why? Is this a bug in the rendering engine of the UIWebView? I don't see anything too odd here. * Updated * There is definitely something screwy going on here. If I add this bit of code just inside the tag, it works fine: Take that code back out, and it crashes again.

  • Java: why is declaration not sufficient in interface?

    - by HH
    Big class contains Format-interfcase and Format-class. The Format-class contains the methods and the interface has the values of the fields. I could have the fields in the class Format but the goal is with Interface. So do I just create dummy-vars to get the errors away, design issue or something ELSE? KEY: Declaration VS Initialisation Explain by the terms, why you have to init in interface. What is the logic behind it? To which kind of problems it leads the use of interface? Sample Code having the init-interface-problem import java.util.*; import java.io.*; public class FormatBig { private static class Format implements Format { private static long getSize(File f){return f.length();} private static long getTime(File f){return f.lastModified();} private static boolean isFile(File f){if(f.isFile()){return true;}} private static boolean isBinary(File f){return Match.isBinary(f);} private static char getType(File f){return Match.getTypes(f);} private static String getPath(File f){return getNoErrPath(f);} //Java API: isHidden, --- SYSTEM DEPENDED: toURI, toURL Format(File f) { // PUZZLE 0: would Stack be easier? size=getSize(f); time=getTime(f); isfile=isFile(f); isBinary=isBinary(f); type=getType(f); path=getPath(f); //PUZZLE 1: how can simplify the assignment? values.push(size); values.push(time); values.push(isfile); values.push(isBinary); values.push(type); values.push(path); } } public static String getNoErrPath(File f) { try{return f.getCanonicalPath(); }catch(Exception e){e.printStackTrace();} } public static final interface Format { //ERR: IT REQUIRES "=" public long size; public long time; public boolean isFile=true; //ERROR goes away if I initialise wit DUMMY public boolean isBinary; public char type; public String path; Stack values=new Stack(); } public static void main(String[] args) { Format fm=new Format(new File(".")); for(Object o:values){System.out.println(o);} } }

  • Why does keyboard-slide crash my app?

    - by Brad Hein
    If I physically slide out the keyboard on my Moto Droid A855, it crashes my test app with the stack trace pasted below. I don't understand why? Also, if I start my app with the keyboard out, my app crashes immediately on startup. The app consists of an activity, which contains a viewflipper as the main view layout. The viewflipper contains two linearlayouts... • Why am I seeing a crash when trying to call CDHtmlDialog::OnInitDialog()

    - by Tim
    I added a helpAbout menu item to my mfc app. I decided to make the ddlg derive from CDHTMLDialog. I override the OnInitDialog() method in my derived class and the first thing I do is call the parent's OnInitDialog() method. I then put in code that sets the title. On some machines this works fine, but on others it crashes in the call to CDHtmlDialog::OnInitDialog() - Trying to read a null pointer. the call stack has nothing useful - it is in mfc90.dll Is this a potential problem with mismatches of mfc/win32 dlls? It works on my vista machines but crashes on a win2003 server box. BOOL HTMLAboutDlg::OnInitDialog() { // CRASHES on the following line CDHtmlDialog::OnInitDialog(); CString title = "my title"; // example of setting title // i try to get version info //set the title CModuleVersion ver; char filename[ _MAX_PATH ]; GetModuleFileName( AfxGetApp()->m_hInstance, filename, _MAX_PATH ); ver.GetFileVersionInfo(filename); // get version from VS_FIXEDFILEINFO struct CString s; s.Format("Version: %d.%d.%d.%d\n", HIWORD(ver.dwFileVersionMS), LOWORD(ver.dwFileVersionMS), HIWORD(ver.dwFileVersionLS), LOWORD(ver.dwFileVersionLS)); CString version = ver.GetValue(_T("ProductVersion")); version.Remove(' '); version.Replace(",", "."); title = "MyApp - Version " + version; SetWindowText(title); return TRUE; // return TRUE unless you set the focus to a control } And here is the relevant header file: class HTMLAboutDlg : public CDHtmlDialog { DECLARE_DYNCREATE(HTMLAboutDlg) public: HTMLAboutDlg(CWnd* pParent = NULL); // standard constructor virtual ~HTMLAboutDlg(); // Overrides HRESULT OnButtonOK(IHTMLElement *pElement); HRESULT OnButtonCancel(IHTMLElement *pElement); // Dialog Data enum { IDD = IDD_DIALOG_ABOUT, IDH = IDR_HTML_HTMLABOUTDLG }; protected: virtual void DoDataExchange(CDataExchange* pDX); // DDX/DDV support virtual BOOL OnInitDialog(); DECLARE_MESSAGE_MAP() DECLARE_DHTML_EVENT_MAP() }; I can't figure out what is going on - why it works on some machins and crashes on others. Both have VS2008 installed EDIT: VS versions VISTA - no crashes 9.0.30729.1 SP 2003 server: (crashes) 9.0.21022.8 RTM

  • Why does a subTable break a4j:commandLink's reRender?

    - by Tom
    Here is a minimal rich:dataTable example with an a4j:commandLink inside. When clicked, it sends an AJAX request to my bean and reRenders the dataTable. <rich:dataTable id="dataTable" value="#{carManager.all}" var="item"> <rich:column> <f:facet name="header">name</f:facet> <h:outputText value="#{item.name}" /> </rich:column> <rich:column> <f:facet name="header">action</f:facet> <a4j:commandLink reRender="dataTable" value="Delete" action="#{carForm.delete}"> <f:setPropertyActionListener value="#{item.id}" target="#{carForm.id}" /> <f:param name="from" value="list" /> </a4j:commandLink> </rich:column> </rich:dataTable> The exmaple obove works fine so far. But when I add a rich:subTable (grouping the cars by garage for example) to the table, reRendering fails... <rich:dataTable id="dataTable" value="#{garageManager.all}" var="garage"> <f:facet name="header"> <rich:columnGroup> <rich:column>name</rich:column> <rich:column>action</rich:column> </rich:columnGroup> </f:facet> <rich:column colspan="2"> <h:outputText value="#{garage.name}" /> </rich:column> <rich:subTable value="#{garage.cars}" var="car"> <rich:column><h:ouputText value="#{car.name}" /></rich:column> <rich:column> <a4j:commandLink reRender="dataTable" value="Delete" action="#{carForm.delete}"> <f:setPropertyActionListener value="#{item.id}" target="#{carForm.id}" /> <f:param name="from" value="list" /> </a4j:commandLink> </rich:column> </rich:column> </rich:dataTable> Now the rich:dataTable is not rerendered but the item gets deleted since the item does not show up after a manual page refresh. Why does subTable break support for reRender-ing here? Tanks Tom

  • Why differs floating-point precision in C# when separated by parantheses and when separated by state

    - by Andreas Larsen
    I am aware of how floating point precision works in the regular cases, but I stumbled on an odd situation in my C# code. Why aren't result1 and result2 the exact same floating point value here? const float A; // Arbitrary value const float B; // Arbitrary value float result1 = (A*B)*dt; float result2 = (A*B); result2 *= dt; From this page I figured float arithmetic was left-associative and that this means values are evaluated and calculated in a left-to-right manner. The full source code involves XNA's Quaternions. I don't think it's relevant what my constants are and what the VectorHelper.AddPitchRollYaw() does. The test passes just fine if I calculate the delta pitch/roll/yaw angles in the same manner, but as the code is below it does not pass: X Expected: 0.275153548f But was: 0.275153786f [TestFixture] internal class QuaternionPrecisionTest { [Test] public void Test() { JoystickInput input; input.Pitch = 0.312312432f; input.Roll = 0.512312432f; input.Yaw = 0.912312432f; const float dt = 0.017001f; float pitchRate = input.Pitch * PhysicsConstants.MaxPitchRate; float rollRate = input.Roll * PhysicsConstants.MaxRollRate; float yawRate = input.Yaw * PhysicsConstants.MaxYawRate; Quaternion orient1 = Quaternion.Identity; Quaternion orient2 = Quaternion.Identity; for (int i = 0; i < 10000; i++) { float deltaPitch = (input.Pitch * PhysicsConstants.MaxPitchRate) * dt; float deltaRoll = (input.Roll * PhysicsConstants.MaxRollRate) * dt; float deltaYaw = (input.Yaw * PhysicsConstants.MaxYawRate) * dt; // Add deltas of pitch, roll and yaw to the rotation matrix orient1 = VectorHelper.AddPitchRollYaw( orient1, deltaPitch, deltaRoll, deltaYaw); deltaPitch = pitchRate * dt; deltaRoll = rollRate * dt; deltaYaw = yawRate * dt; orient2 = VectorHelper.AddPitchRollYaw( orient2, deltaPitch, deltaRoll, deltaYaw); } Assert.AreEqual(orient1.X, orient2.X, "X"); Assert.AreEqual(orient1.Y, orient2.Y, "Y"); Assert.AreEqual(orient1.Z, orient2.Z, "Z"); Assert.AreEqual(orient1.W, orient2.W, "W"); } } Granted, the error is small and only presents itself after a large number of iterations, but it has caused me some great headackes.

  • Why is my UIImageView blurred?

    - by Denis M
    I have a really weird problem with UIImageView. I have an image (an RGB png) 45x45 pixels which I add to the view. I can see that image is blurred after added to the view. Here is the same image in the simulator (left) and in Xcode (right): I have custom UIImageView class with this initWithImage code: - (id) initWithImage:(UIImage*) image { self = [super initWithImage:image]; self.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 45, 45); self.contentMode = UIViewContentModeScaleAspectFit; self.quantity = 1; if (self) { self.label = [[UITextField alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0,40,45,25)]; self.label.font = [UIFont systemFontOfSize:16]; self.label.borderStyle = UITextBorderStyleNone; self.label.enabled = TRUE; self.label.userInteractionEnabled = TRUE; self.label.delegate = self; self.label.keyboardType = UIKeyboardTypeNumbersAndPunctuation; self.label.textAlignment = UITextAlignmentCenter; } self.userInteractionEnabled = TRUE; // Prepare 3 buttons: count up, count down, and delete self.deleteButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeRoundedRect]; self.deleteButton.hidden = NO; self.deleteButton.userInteractionEnabled = YES; self.deleteButton.titleLabel.font = [UIFont systemFontOfSize:20]; self.deleteButton.titleLabel.textColor = [UIColor redColor]; [self.deleteButton setTitle:@"X" forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [self.deleteButton addTarget:self action:@selector(deleteIcon:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; self.upCountButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeRoundedRect]; self.upCountButton.hidden = NO; self.upCountButton.userInteractionEnabled = YES; [self.upCountButton setTitle:@"+" forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [self.upCountButton addTarget:self action:@selector(addQuantity:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; self.downCountButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeRoundedRect]; self.downCountButton.hidden = YES; self.downCountButton.userInteractionEnabled = YES; [self.downCountButton setTitle:@"-" forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [self.downCountButton addTarget:self action:@selector(removeQuantity:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; return self; } I create it like this: UIImage *desertIcon = [UIImage imageNamed:@"desert.png"]; IconObj *desertIconView = [[IconObj alloc] initWithImage:desertIcon]; desertIconView.center = CGPointMake(265,VERTICAL_POINT_ICON); desertIconView.type = [IconObj TYPE_DESERT]; [self.view addSubview:desertIconView]; [desertIconView release]; Why would the displayed image be so than the one stored in a file?

    I'm writing some simple point code while trying out Visual Studio 10 (Beta 2), and I've hit this code where I would expect SFINAE to kick in, but it seems not to: template<typename T> struct point { T x, y; point(T x, T y) : x(x), y(y) {} }; template<typename T, typename U> struct op_div { typedef decltype(T() / U()) type; }; template<typename T, typename U> point<typename op_div<T, U>::type> operator/(point<T> const& l, point const& r) { return point<typename op_div<T, U>::type>(l.x / r.x, l.y / r.y); } template<typename T, typename U> point<typename op_div<T, U>::type> operator/(point<T> const& l, U const& r) { return point<typename op_div<T, U>::type>(l.x / r, l.y / r); } int main() { point<int>(0, 1) / point<float>(2, 3); } This gives error C2512: 'point<T>::point' : no appropriate default constructor available Given that it is a beta, I did a quick sanity check with the online comeau compiler, and it agrees with an identical error, so it seems this behavior is correct, but I can't see why. In this case some workarounds are to simply inline the decltype(T() / U()), to give the point class a default constructor, or to use decltype on the full result expression, but I got this error while trying to simplify an error I was getting with a version of op_div that did not require a default constructor*, so I would rather fix my understanding of C++ rather than to just do what works. Thanks! *: the original: template<typename T, typename U> struct op_div { static T t(); static U u(); typedef decltype(t() / u()) type; }; Which gives error C2784: 'point<op_div<T,U>::type> operator /(const point<T> &,const U &)' : could not deduce template argument for 'const point<T> &' from 'int', and also for the point<T> / point overload.

  • iPhone OS: KVO: Why is my Observer only getting notified at applicationDidfinishLaunching

    - by nickthedude
    I am basically trying to implement an achievement tracking setup in my app. I have a managedObjectModel class called StatTracker to keep track of all sorts of stats and I want my Achievement tracking class to be notified when those stats change so I can check them against a value and see if the user has earned an achievement. I've tried to impliment KVO and I think I'm pretty close to making it happen but the problem I'm running into is this: So in the appDelegate i have an Ivar for my Achievement tracker class, I attach it as an observer to a property value of my statTracker core data entity in the applicationDidFinishLaunching method. I know its making the connection because I've been able to trigger a UIAlert in my AchievementTracker instance, and I've put several log statements that should be triggered whenever the value on the StatTracker's property changes. the log statement appears only once at the application launch. I'm wondering if I'm missing something in the whole object lifecycle scheme of things, I just don't understand why the observer stops getting notified of changes after the applicationDidFinishLaunching method has run. Does it have something to do with the scope of the AchievementTracker reference or more likely the reference to my core data StatTracker is going away once that method finishes up. I guess I'm not sure the right place to place these if that is the case. Would love some help. Here is the code where I add the observer in my appDidFinishLaunching method: [[CoreDataSingleton sharedCoreDataSingleton] incrementStatTrackerStat:@"timesLaunched"]; achievementsObserver = [[AchievementTracker alloc] init]; StatTracker *object = nil; object = [[[CoreDataSingleton sharedCoreDataSingleton] getStatTracker] objectAtIndex:0]; NSLog(@"%@",[object description]); [[CoreDataSingleton sharedCoreDataSingleton] addObserver:achievementsObserver toStat:@"refreshCount"]; here is the code in my core data singleton: -(void) addObserver:(id)observer toStat:(NSString *) statToObserve { NSLog(@"observer added"); NSArray *array = [[NSArray alloc] init]; array = [self getStatTracker]; [[array objectAtIndex:0] addObserver:observer forKeyPath:statToObserve options:NSKeyValueObservingOptionNew | NSKeyValueObservingOptionOld context:NULL]; } and my AchievementTracker: - (void)observeValueForKeyPath:(NSString *)keyPath ofObject:(id)object change:(NSDictionary *)change context:(void *)context { NSLog(@"achievemnt hit"); //NSLog("%@", [change description]); if ([keyPath isEqual:@"refreshCount"] && ((NSInteger)[change valueForKey:@"NSKeyValueObservingOptionOld"] == 60) ) { NSLog(@"achievemnt hit inside"); UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:@"title" message:@"achievement unlocked" delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:@"cancel" otherButtonTitles:nil]; [alert show]; } }

  • Why is zIndex not working from IE/Javascript?

    - by Vilx-

Problem demo

1.
3.

2.

In a nutshell, this script has two DIV elements with position:relative and the first of them has a third DIV with position:absolute in it. It's all set to run on IE-7 standards mode (I'm targeting IE7 and above). I know about the separate z-stacks of IE, so by default the third DIV should be beneath the second DIV. To fix this problem there is some Javascript which sets the z-orders of first and third DIV to 1000, and the z-order of the second DIV to 999. Unfortunately this does not help. If the z-indexes were set in markup, this would work, but why not from JS? Note: This problem does not exist in IE8 standards mode, but I'm targetting IE7, so I can't rely on that. Also, if you save this to your hard drive and then open it up, at first IE complains something about ActiveX and stuff. After you wave it away, everything works as expected. But if you refresh the page, the problem is there again.

  • Why no switch on pointers?

    - by meeselet
    For instance: #include <stdio.h> void why_cant_we_switch_him(void *ptr) { switch (ptr) { case NULL: printf("NULL!\n"); break; default: printf("%p!\n", ptr); break; } } int main(void) { void *foo = "toast"; why_cant_we_switch_him(foo); return 0; } gcc test.c -o test test.c: In function 'why_cant_we_switch_him': test.c:5: error: switch quantity not an integer test.c:6: error: pointers are not permitted as case values Just curious. Is this a technical limitation? EDIT People seem to think there is only one constant pointer expression. Is that is really true, though? For instance, here is a common paradigm in Objective-C (it is really only C aside from NSString, id and nil, which are merely a pointers, so it is still relevant — I just wanted to point out that there is, in fact, a common use for it, despite this being only a technical question): #include <stdio.h> #include <Foundation/Foundation.h> static NSString * const kMyConstantObject = @"Foo"; void why_cant_we_switch_him(id ptr) { switch (ptr) { case kMyConstantObject: // (Note that we are comparing pointers, not string values.) printf("We found him!\n"); break; case nil: printf("He appears to be nil (or NULL, whichever you prefer).\n"); break; default: printf("%p!\n", ptr); break; } } int main(void) { NSString *foo = @"toast"; why_cant_we_switch_him(foo); foo = kMyConstantObject; why_cant_we_switch_him(foo); return 0; } gcc test.c -o test -framework Foundation test.c: In function 'why_cant_we_switch_him': test.c:5: error: switch quantity not an integer test.c:6: error: pointers are not permitted as case values It appears that the reason is that switch only allows integral values (as the compiler warning said). So I suppose a better question would be to ask why this is the case? (though it is probably too late now.)

  • rewritten mysql query returning unexpected results, trying to figure out why

    - by dq
    I created a messy query in a hurry a while ago to get a list of product codes. I am now trying to clean up my tables and my code. I recently tried to rewrite the query in order for it to be easier to use and understand. The original query works great, but it requires multiple search strings in order to do one search because it uses UNIONS, and it has a few other issues. My newly modified query is easier to understand, and only requires one search string, but is returning different results. Basically the new query is leaving records out, and I would like to understand why, and how to fix it. Here are the two queries (search strings are all null): Original Query: $query = 'SELECT product_code FROM bus_warehouse_lots WHERE status=\'2\''.$search_string_1 .' UNION SELECT product_code FROM bus_po WHERE status=\'0\''.$search_string_2 .' UNION SELECT bus_warehouse_entries.new_product_code AS product_code FROM (bus_warehouse_entries LEFT JOIN bus_warehouse_transfers ON bus_warehouse_entries.picking_ticket_num=bus_warehouse_transfers.pt_number) LEFT JOIN bus_warehouse_lots ON bus_warehouse_entries.ebooks_lot_id=bus_warehouse_lots.id WHERE bus_warehouse_entries.type=\'6\' AND bus_warehouse_transfers.status=\'0\''.$search_string_3 .' UNION SELECT bus_contracts.main_product AS product_code FROM bus_contracts LEFT JOIN bus_warehouse_lots ON bus_contracts.main_product=bus_warehouse_lots.product_code WHERE bus_contracts.status=\'0\''.$search_string_4 .' UNION SELECT prod_id AS product_code FROM bus_products WHERE last_usage > \''.date('Y-m-d', strtotime('-12 months')).'\''.$search_string_5 .' ORDER BY product_code'; New Query: $query = 'SELECT bus_products.prod_id FROM bus_products' .' LEFT JOIN (bus_warehouse_lots, bus_po, bus_warehouse_entries, bus_contracts) ON (' .'bus_products.prod_id = bus_warehouse_lots.product_code' .' AND bus_products.prod_id = bus_po.product_code' .' AND bus_products.prod_id = bus_warehouse_entries.new_product_code' .' AND bus_products.prod_id = bus_contracts.main_product)' .' LEFT JOIN bus_warehouse_transfers ON' .' bus_warehouse_entries.picking_ticket_num = bus_warehouse_transfers.pt_number' .' WHERE (bus_products.last_usage > \''.date('Y-m-d', strtotime('-12 months')).'\'' .' OR bus_warehouse_lots.status = \'2\'' .' OR bus_po.status = \'0\'' .' OR (bus_warehouse_entries.type = \'6\' AND bus_warehouse_transfers.status = \'0\')' .' OR bus_contracts.status = \'0\')' .$search_string_6 .' GROUP BY bus_products.prod_id' .' • Why does Scala apply thunks automatically, sometimes?

    - by Anonymouse
    At just after 2:40 in ShadowofCatron's Scala Tutorial 3 video, it's pointed out that the parentheses following the name of a thunk are optional. "Buh?" said my functional programming brain, since the value of a function and the value it evaluates to when applied are completely different things. So I wrote the following to try this out. My thought process is described in the comments. object Main { var counter: Int = 10 def f(): Int = { counter = counter + 1; counter } def runThunk(t: () => Int): Int = { t() } def main(args: Array[String]): Unit = { val a = f() // I expect this to mean "apply f to no args" println(a) // and apparently it does val b = f // I expect this to mean "the value f", a function value println(b) // but it's the value it evaluates to when applied to no args println(b) // and the evaluation happens immediately, not in the call runThunk(b) // This is an error: it's not println doing something funny runThunk(f) // Not an error: seems to be val doing something funny } } To be clear about the problem, this Scheme program (and the console dump which follows) shows what I expected the Scala program to do. (define counter (list 10)) (define f (lambda () (set-car! counter (+ (car counter) 1)) (car counter))) (define runThunk (lambda (t) (t))) (define main (lambda args (let ((a (f)) (b f)) (display a) (newline) (display b) (newline) (display b) (newline) (runThunk b) (runThunk f)))) > (main) 11 #<procedure:f> #<procedure:f> 13 After coming to this site to ask about this, I came across this answer which told me how to fix the above Scala program: val b = f _ // Hey Scala, I mean f, not f() But the underscore 'hint' is only needed sometimes. When I call runThunk(f), no hint is required. But when I 'alias' f to b with a val then apply it, it doesn't work: the evaluation happens in the val; and even lazy val works this way, so it's not the point of evaluation causing this behaviour. That all leaves me with the question: Why does Scala sometimes automatically apply thunks when evaluating them? Is it, as I suspect, type inference? And if so, shouldn't a type system stay out of the language's semantics? Is this a good idea? Do Scala programmers apply thunks rather than refer to their values so much more often that making the parens optional is better overall? Examples written using Scala 2.8.0RC3, DrScheme 4.0.1 in R5RS.

  • Quick question regarding this issue, Why doesnt it print out the second value(converted second value

    - by sil3nt
    Quick question, What have I done wrong here. The purpose of this code is to get the input into a string, the input being "12 34", with a space in between the "12" and "32" and to convert and print the two separate numbers from an integer variable known as number. Why doesn't the second call to the function copyTemp, not produce the value 34?. I have an index_counter variable which keeps track of the string index and its meant to skip the 'space' character?? what have i done wrong? thanks. #include <stdio.h> #include <string.h> int index_counter = 0; int number; void copyTemp(char *expr,char *temp); int main(){ char exprstn[80]; //as global? char tempstr[80]; gets(exprstn); copyTemp(exprstn,tempstr); printf("Expression: %s\n",exprstn); printf("Temporary: %s\n",tempstr); printf("number is: %d\n",number); copyTemp(exprstn,tempstr); //second call produces same output shouldnt it now produce 34 in the variable number? printf("Expression: %s\n",exprstn); printf("Temporary: %s\n",tempstr); printf("number is: %d\n",number); return 0; } void copyTemp(char *expr,char *temp){ int i; for(i = index_counter; expr[i] != '\0'; i++){ if (expr[i] == '0'){ temp[i] = expr[i]; } if (expr[i] == '1'){ temp[i] = expr[i]; } if (expr[i] == '2'){ temp[i] = expr[i]; } if (expr[i] == '3'){ temp[i] = expr[i]; } if (expr[i] == '4'){ temp[i] = expr[i]; } if (expr[i] == '5'){ temp[i] = expr[i]; } if (expr[i] == '6'){ temp[i] = expr[i]; } if (expr[i] == '7'){ temp[i] = expr[i]; } if (expr[i] == '8'){ temp[i] = expr[i]; } if (expr[i] == '9'){ temp[i] = expr[i]; } if (expr[i] == ' '){ temp[i] = '\0'; sscanf(temp,"%d",&number); index_counter = i+1; //skips? } } // is this included here? temp[i] = '\0'; }

  • Reason why UIImageView gives me a 'distorted' image sometimes

    - by Cedric Vandendriessche
    I have a custom UIView with a UILabel and a UIImageView subview. (tried using UIImageView subclass aswell). I assign an image to it and add the view to the screen. I wrote a function which adds the amount of LetterBoxes to the screen as there are letters in the word: - (void)drawBoxesForWord:(NSString *)word { if(boxesContainer == nil) { /* Create a container for the LetterBoxes (animation purposes) */ boxesContainer = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 205, 320, 50)]; [self.view addSubview:boxesContainer]; } /* Calculate width of letterboxes */ NSInteger numberOfCharacters = [word length]; CGFloat totalWidth = numberOfCharacters * 28 + (numberOfCharacters - 1) * 3; CGFloat leftCap = (320 - totalWidth) / 2; [letters removeAllObjects]; /* Draw the boxes to the screen */ for (int i = 0; i < numberOfCharacters; i++) { LetterBox *letter = [[LetterBox alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(leftCap + i * 31 , 0, 28, 40)]; [letters addObject:letter]; [boxesContainer addSubview:letter]; [letter release]; }} This gives me the image below: http://www.imgdumper.nl/uploads2/4ba3b2c72bb99/4ba3b2c72abfd-Goed.png But sometimes it gives me this: imgdumper.nl/uploads2/4ba3b2d888226/4ba3b2d88728a-Fout.png I add them to the same boxesContainer but they first remove themselves from the superview, so it's not like you see them double or something. What I find weird is that they are all good or all bad.. This is the init function for my LetterBox: if (self == [super initWithFrame:aRect]) { /* Create the box image with same frame */ boxImage = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, self.bounds.size.width, self.bounds.size.height)]; boxImage.contentMode = UIViewContentModeScaleAspectFit; boxImage.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"SpaceOpen.png"]; [self addSubview:boxImage]; /* Create the label with same frame */ letterLabel = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, self.bounds.size.width, self.bounds.size.height)]; letterLabel.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; letterLabel.font = [UIFont fontWithName:@"ArialRoundedMTBold" size:26]; letterLabel.textColor = [UIColor blackColor]; letterLabel.textAlignment = UITextAlignmentCenter; [self addSubview:letterLabel]; } return self;} Does anyone have an idea why this could be? I'd rather have them display correctly every time :)

  • Why wont my while loop take new input (c++)

    - by Van
    I've written a program to get a string input from a user and parse it into tokens and move a robot according to the input. My problem is trying to issue more than one command. The code looks like: void Navigator::manualDrive() { const int bufSize = 42; char uinput[bufSize]; char delim[] = " "; char *token; while(true) { Navigator::parseInstruction(uinput); } } /* parseInstruction(char *c) -- parses cstring instructions received * and moves robot accordingly */ void Navigator::parseInstruction(char * c) { const int bufSize = 42; char uinput[bufSize]; char delim[] = " "; char *token; cout << "Enter your directions below: \n"; cin.ignore(); cin.getline (uinput, bufSize); token=strtok(uinput, delim); if(strcmp("forward", token) == 0) { int inches; token = strtok(NULL, delim); inches = atoi (token); Navigator::travel(inches); } if(strcmp("back",token) == 0) { int inches; token = strtok(NULL, delim); inches = atoi (token); double value = fabs(0.0735 * fabs(inches) - 0.0550); myRobot.backward(1/*speed*/, value/*time*/); } if(strcmp("turn",token) == 0) { int degrees; token = strtok(NULL, delim); if(strcmp("left",token) == 0) { token = strtok(uinput, delim); degrees = atoi (token); double value = fabs(0.0041 * degrees - 0.0523); myRobot.turnLeft(1/*speed*/, value/*time*/); } } if(strcmp("turn",token) == 0) { int degrees; token = strtok(NULL, delim); if(strcmp("right",token) == 0) { token = strtok(uinput, delim); degrees = atoi (token); double value = fabs(0.0041 * degrees - 0.0523); myRobot.turnRight(1/*speed*/, value/*time*/); } } if(strcmp("stop",token) == 0) { myRobot.motors(0,0); } } In the function manualDrive I have a while loop calling the function parseInstruction infinitely. The program outputs "Enter your directions below: " When I give the program instructions it executes them, and then it outputs "enter your directions below: " again and when I input my directions again it does not execute them and outputs "Enter your directions below: " instead. I'm sure this is a very simple fix I'm just very new to c++. So if you could please help me out and tell me why the program only takes the first set of directions. thanks

  • Why is this simple Mobile Form not closed when using the player

    - by ajhvdb
    Hi, I created this simple sample Form with the close button. Everything is working as expected when NOT using the Interop.WMPLib.dll I've seen other applications using this without problems but why isn't the Form process closed when I just add the line: SoundPlayer myPlayer = new SoundPlayer(); and of course dispose it: if (myPlayer != null) { myPlayer.Dispose(); myPlayer = null; } The Form closes but the debugger VS2008 is still active. The Form project and the dll are still active. If you send me an email to [email protected], I can send you the zipped project. Below is the class for the dll: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Text; using System.Threading; using System.Runtime.InteropServices; using WMPLib; namespace WindowsMobile.Utilities { public delegate void SoundPlayerStateChanged(SoundPlayer sender, SoundPlayerState newState); public enum SoundPlayerState { Stopped, Playing, Paused, } public class SoundPlayer : IDisposable { [DllImport("coredll")] public extern static int waveOutSetVolume(int hwo, uint dwVolume); [DllImport("coredll")] public extern static int waveOutGetVolume(int hwo, out uint dwVolume); WindowsMediaPlayer myPlayer = new WindowsMediaPlayer(); public SoundPlayer() { myPlayer.uiMode = "invisible"; myPlayer.settings.volume = 100; } string mySoundLocation = string.Empty; public string SoundLocation { get { return mySoundLocation; } set { mySoundLocation = value; } } public void Pause() { myPlayer.controls.pause(); } public void PlayLooping() { Stop(); myPlayer.URL = mySoundLocation; myPlayer.settings.setMode("loop", true); } public int Volume { get { return myPlayer.settings.volume; } set { myPlayer.settings.volume = value; } } public void Play() { Stop(); myPlayer.URL = mySoundLocation; myPlayer.controls.play(); } public void Stop() { myPlayer.controls.stop(); myPlayer.close(); } #region IDisposable Members public void Dispose() { try { Stop(); } catch (Exception) { } // need this otherwise the process won't exit?! try { int ret = Marshal.FinalReleaseComObject(myPlayer); } catch (Exception) { } myPlayer = null; GC.Collect(); } #endregion } }

The code looks like: void Navigator::manualDrive() { const int bufSize = 42; char uinput[bufSize]; char delim[] = " "; char *token; while(true) { Navigator::parseInstruction(uinput); } } /* parseInstruction(char *c) -- parses cstring instructions received * and moves robot accordingly */ void Navigator::parseInstruction(char * c) { const int bufSize = 42; char uinput[bufSize]; char delim[] = " "; char *token; cout << "Enter your directions below: \n"; cin.ignore(); cin.getline (uinput, bufSize); token=strtok(uinput, delim); if(strcmp("forward", token) == 0) { int inches; token = strtok(NULL, delim); inches = atoi (token); Navigator::travel(inches); } if(strcmp("back",token) == 0) { int inches; token = strtok(NULL, delim); inches = atoi (token); double value = fabs(0.0735 * fabs(inches) - 0.0550); myRobot.backward(1/*speed*/, value/*time*/); } if(strcmp("turn",token) == 0) { int degrees; token = strtok(NULL, delim); if(strcmp("left",token) == 0) { token = strtok(uinput, delim); degrees = atoi (token); double value = fabs(0.0041 * degrees - 0.0523); myRobot.turnLeft(1/*speed*/, value/*time*/); } } if(strcmp("turn",token) == 0) { int degrees; token = strtok(NULL, delim); if(strcmp("right",token) == 0) { token = strtok(uinput, delim); degrees = atoi (token); double value = fabs(0.0041 * degrees - 0.0523); myRobot.turnRight(1/*speed*/, value/*time*/); } } if(strcmp("stop",token) == 0) { myRobot.motors(0,0); } } In the function manualDrive I have a while loop calling the function parseInstruction infinitely. The program outputs "Enter your directions below: " When I give the program instructions it executes them, and then it outputs "enter your directions below: " again and when I input my directions again it does not execute them and outputs "Enter your directions below: " instead. I'm sure this is a very simple fix I'm just very new to c++. So if you could please help me out and tell me why the program only takes the first set of directions. thanks

  • why gcc emits segmentation ,after my code run

    - by gcc
    every time ,why have I encountered with segmentation fault ? still,I have not found my fault sometimes, gcc emits segmentation fault ,sometimes, memory satck limit is exceeded I think you will understand (easily) what is for that code void my_main() { char *tutar[50],tempc; int i=0,temp,g=0,a=0,j=0,d=1,current=0,command=0,command2=0; do{ tutar[i]=malloc(sizeof(int)); scanf("%s",tutar[i]); temp=*tutar[i]; } while(temp=='x'); i=0; num_arrays=atoi(tutar[i]); i=1; tempc=*tutar[i]; if(tempc!='x' && tempc!='d' && tempc!='a' && tempc!='j') { current=1; arrays[current]=malloc(sizeof(int)); l_arrays[current]=calloc(1,sizeof(int)); c_arrays[current]=calloc(1,sizeof(int));} i=1; current=1; while(1) { tempc=*tutar[i]; if(tempc=='x') break; if(tempc=='n') { ++current; arrays[current]=malloc(sizeof(int)); l_arrays[current]=calloc(1,sizeof(int)); c_arrays[current]=calloc(1,sizeof(int)); ++i; continue; } if(tempc=='d') { ++i; command=atoi(tutar[i])-1; free(arrays[command]); free(l_arrays[command]); free(c_arrays[command]); ++i; continue; } if(tempc=='j') { ++i; current=atoi(tutar[i])-1; if(arrays[current]==NULL) { arrays[current]=malloc(sizeof(int)); l_arrays[current]=calloc(1,sizeof(int)); c_arrays[current]=calloc(1,sizeof(int)); ++i; } else { a=l_arrays[current]; j=l_arrays[current]; ++i;} continue; } } }
