  • How to access the database when developing on a phone?

    I am having trouble accessing the database while I am developing on the phone. Whenever I execute cd /data/data/com.mycompck/databases then if I try to run ls I get opendir failed, Permission denied Or whenever I type in: sqlite3 I get sqlite3: permission denied What I am doing wrong? Are there some applications that can help me getting a human view of content resolvers values and/or SQLite databases?

  • Best way to convert log files (*.txt) to web-friendly files (*.html, *.jsp, etc)?

    I have a bunch of log files which are pure text. Here is an example of one... Overall Failures Log SW Failures - 03.09.2010 - /logs/swfailures.txt - 23 errors - 24 warnings HW Failures - 03.09.2010 - /logs/hwfailures.txt - 42 errors - 25 warnings SW Failures - 03.10.2010 - /logs/swfailures.txt - 32 errors - 27 warnings HW Failures - 03.10.2010 - /logs/hwfailures.txt - 11 errors - 31 warnings These files can get quite large and contain a lot of other information. I'd like to produce an HTML file from this log that will add links to key portions and allow the user to open up other log files as a result... SW Failures - 03.09.2010 - <a href="/logs/swfailures.txt">/logs/swfailures.txt</a> - 23 errors - 24 warnings This is greatly simplified as I would like to add many more links and other html elements. My question is -- what is the best way to do this? If the files are large, should I generate the html before serving it to the user or will jsp do? Should I use perl or other scripting languages to do this? What are your thoughts and experiences?

  • Taking Your Business Scorecard Golfing

    Our workplace world is definitely changing. Not only are we taking work home, but we are working during odd hours in some very strange places.  I had the pleasure of interviewing Jacques Vigeant, Product Strategy Manager for Oracle Business Intelligence and Enterprise Performance Management, on a Podcast, and he enlightened me about how our mobile devices and business scorecards are enabling us to be more accountable and keep a watchful eye on business – even while on the golf course.Business scorecards have been around for many years - so I asked Jacques if he felt they had changed significantly due to technology. His answer was, “Yes, and no.”  Jacques agreed that scorecard enthusiasts are still passionate about executing the company strategy and monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), but scorecards and Business Intelligence (BI) as a whole have changed.  He explained that five to six years ago, people did BI work at the office and, for the most part, disconnected from their computer and workplace when they went home – with the exception of checking email and making a phone call or two. But now, that is no longer the case. People are virtually always connected with work and, more importantly, expect their BI and scorecards to be ‘always on,’ regardless of whether they are at their desk or somewhere else.Basically, the BI paradigm has changed from a 'pull' model, where employees are at their desks querying or pulling information from the system, to a 'push' model where employees expect their BI and scorecard systems to reach out (or push information) to them when there is something of note to learn or something on which they need to take action. I found this very interesting. However mobile devices do have their limitations with respect to screen sizes – does it really make sense to look at your strategy/scorecard on tiny devices? What kind of scorecard activities can you really expect to be able to do? Jacques’ answer was very logical. “When you think of a scorecard, it is really comprised of an organization of KPIs that are aligned with the strategic objectives of your company. KPIs are the heart of how you will execute your strategy. So, if you decompose that a little more, each KPI is well defined with the thresholds that you should keep an eye on and who is responsible for them. When we talk about scorecarding on a phone, we aren’t talking about surfing the strategy and exploring the strategy map like we do on the desktop. In a scorecarding context, we use the phone more as an alerting mechanism or simple monitoring device for your KPIs.”Jacques gave a great example of an inventory manager who took part of an afternoon off to go golfing before winter finally hit, and while on the front nine holes, his phone vibrated. His scorecard was alerting him that the inventory levels for one of the products was below some threshold that he had set.  From his phone, he had set up three options within Oracle Scorecard and Strategy Management (OSSM) for this type of situation:  1. Contact the warehouse manager directly by phone and work it out (standard phone function)  2. Tap/hold the KPI and add an annotation to the KPI in OSSM using the dictation capabilities of the phone and deal with it more fully when he gets back to the office  3. Tap/hold the KPI and invoke a business process from OSSM to transfer product from another warehouse with higher stock levels to the one that needs it  Being on a phone should still give you options to quickly deal with situations as needed, but mobile phones are not designed for nor should try to replicate the full desktop experience.   • Asterisk/FreePBX: Allow other Google Talk clients to ring when using motif module

    I've recently installed FreePBX to act as a link between a SIP soft phone and my Google Talk account. It was easy to set up and outbound calls work just fine, but I've run into two problems with inbound calls that I'm not sure how to resolve. I'm using an inbound route to forward all calls from Google to my soft phone. If the soft phone is not currently registered, Asterisk answers and immediately generates a fast-busy signal (reporting CHANUNAVAIL in the logs), and the call is lost. If the soft phone is registered, Asterisk "answers" the call before rining the soft phone, which means that other Google Talk clients never ring (since from their perspective someone has answered the call). For solving (1) seems like I could use the ChanIsAvail() function (or this answer) to prevent Asterisk from answering in the event that the phone isn't registered. However, I'm not sure what to do about (2), because the behavior I want is for Asterisk to not "answer" the call until I answer the call on the soft phone. How do I configure Asterisk (ideally within the FreePBX framework) such that I can continue to receive calls at other Google Talk clients in addition to forwarding them to a SIP phone?

    I need to recover data from my AT&T LG Thrill Android Phone Background: My AT&T LG Thrill phone's battery died a couple of days ago because I forgot to charge it. When I charged the phone and tried to turn it on, it showed the LG logo followed by the dropping balls and the AT&T "Rethink Possible" screen. I then get a mesage that the Application Google Services Framework has crashed and the phone goes into a loop with the dropping balls showing again followed by "Rethink Possible" screen. This sequence repeats itself over and over and the phone does not get out of this loop. I have been able to go into the recovery screen (both Safe Mode and the Android Recovery Service) and have cleared cache, etc. However, I DO NOT want to wipe user data and restore to factory settings as this will wipe all of my data (pictures, application data, etc). Solution Needed: I need a suggestion to a way of accessing my data so that I can back it up onto an SD card/computer. I DO NOT want to root the phone as this may void the warranty. What I'm looking for is a way of perhaps putting the original flash image on the micro SD card and then have the phone read that image. Or some other similar solution that will get the phone out of this loop and allow me to get to the data.

  • Route traffic from one VPN to a second VPN

    I have set up an OpenVPN server on my windows 7 64-bit PC. I also have a subscription to a VPN service. My aim is to be able to connect my android phone to the VPN server on my PC, and then route all traffic through the VPN service. I have a NetGear WPN824 router. I can get it working if I my phone is on my local network. Then I can connect my phone to the VPN server using the local IP address of my PC. In Network Connection in the control panel, I share the connection used by the VPN service with the connection used by the VPN server. Then when I browse the internet on my phone, all traffic goes through the VPN service. Very nice. But if my phone is outside my local network, so I have to connect my phone to the local VPN using my PC's external IP address, then this method doesn't work. If I connect my PC to the VPN service and then try to connect my phone to my own VPN, it just doesn't connect (the initial TLS handshake times out). If I connect my phone to the local VPN first, then this connection is lost as soon as I connect my PC to the VPN service. Does anybody know how I can get this working? Many thanks Dominic

  • Why can't I connect to my home SSH (SFTP) server? What am I doing wrong?

    I am new to this topic of creating a SFTP server on one's computer. I would like to be able to access the folder on my Windows XP computer via SFTP from another computer or a phone. The following is what I have done so far: I have installed SSH Windows and everything is setup correctly because I can access it (the folder on my pc) via WinSCP. I however cannot access it from my phone. It doesn't connect. The phone can be on the same wireless network as the Windows XP computer, but I would prefer to be able to access this when not in the same network. Now, from what I have read and understood, the following is the information needed to connect: 1) Host Name: This would be my computer's ip address which I access by typing ipconfig in a cmd prompt (I access this easily on my computer because I simply put in localhost or 127.0.0.1) 2) Port Number: That would be port 22 (I have also added this to my router in the port forwarding section). 3) Username: This would be my Windows XP username. This however is my full name, including my middle initial followed by a period. I am wondering if this is maybe causing problems in accessing it from my phone, since the name has spaces and punctuation (the period). 4) Password: The password of my Windows XP computer Extra Info: When I say phone, I mean an Android phone and I am using an ftp / sftp app to access my pc via the phone's cellular network (I also tried the wireless, but that didn't work as well). I have tried more than one program. On one program it tells me Connection timed out and on another it tells me "timeout:socket is not established" Also, I know that I can use the site noip, but I prefer to connect this way first. Also, because I am new to this, I would like to look into what exactly noip is doing and if they would be seeing my files as they are transferred from phone to pc.   • Problem installing ubuntu touch on galaxy nexus

    I've installed ubuntu touch on my galaxy nexus following the tutorial on the official site. However the latter is not so clear.. In particular, during the installation, user action on the phone is requested and not documented on the tutorial: 1) The phone asked me whether rebooting, wiping the cache or something else (i did nothing and the phone rebooted) 2) The phone asked me whether replacing or not cmw (or something similar). I asked no.. After the installation all seemed to work correctly. However after shutting down the phone can't power on anymore... When I push the power button the battery icon appears, showing that the battery is completely charged. What am I supposed to do?

    Hi everyone, I would like to create an effect to a cell of a UITableView. The effect is: duplicate the cell and move the duplicated cell (the original stays at its place). My problem is to duplicate the cell... I've tried: Code: UITableViewCell *animatedCell = [[UITableViewCell alloc] init]; animatedCell = [[self cellForRowAtIndexPath:indexPath] copy]; but UIView doesn't seem to implement the copy...   • Adding NavigationControl to a TabBar Application containing UITableViews

    Hi, I'm new to iPhone dev and wanted to get advice on the general design pattern / guide for putting a certain kind of app together. I'm trying to build a TabBar type application. One of the tabs needs to display a TableView and selecting a cell from within the table view will do something else - maybe show another table view or a web page. I need a Navigation Bar to be able to take me back from the table view/web page. The approach I've taken so far is to: Create an app based around UITabBarController as the rootcontroller i.e. @interface MyAppDelegate : NSObject <UIApplicationDelegate> { IBOutlet UIWindow *window; IBOutlet UITabBarController *rootController; } Create a load of UIViewController derived classes and associated NIBs and wire everything up in IB so when I run the app I get the basic tabs working. I then take the UIViewController derived class and modify it to the following: @interface MyViewController : UIViewController<UITableViewDataSource, UITableViewDelegate> { } and I add the delegate methods to the implementation of MyViewController - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section { return 2; } - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; } if (indexPath.row == 0) { cell.textLabel.text = @"Mummy"; } else { cell.textLabel.text = @"Daddy"; } return cell; } Go back to IB , open MyViewController.xib and drop a UITableView onto it. This method here works apart from the fact that the results over a certain distance are still in the table, they are just not graphically visible. I am led to believe that i have to carry out the filtering process before the formatting the table but i can not seem to do this. Please help. My xcode skills are not brilliant so code suggestions would be helpfull.
