  • What is the proper way to setup Google Apps email accounts for a subdomain?

    Let's say I've registered domain.com at enom and set it up to use Google Apps for email by rerouting DNS to enom's servers and editing the MX records there. That works flawlessly. Now let's say I want to have email at a subdomain for that same site. I already have a working subdomain at the host, but I want to catch email traffic at enom before it gets that far. I've set up Google Apps as a new account for the subdomain, successfully verified domain ownership, and now they want me to update MX records. What's the right format? For domain.com, I just put @ for the hostname, and then provided the Address and Pref values that Google gave me. I tried putting subdomain.domain.com as new values under hostname for the subdomain, but that doesn't seem to work. What am I doing wrong?

  • Why is Google Webmaster Tools crawling invalid URLS and showing 500 errors?

    Google Webmaster tools is reporting 12k+ 500 errors. Eeek! None of the URLS are valid- they all contain www.youtube.com. First, why is Google crawling these URLS if they don't exist? I supplied a sitemap, and they are of course not in the sitemap. I don't have a robots.txt blocking anything. I've checked for invalid redirects--none, and checked for unclosed tags or something that would throw www.youtube.com into the URL by accident--none. In every 'linked from', the referring URL is also a bad URL, with www.youtube.com in it. The Google Tools report no malware, and I can't check the server logs because the host won't give me access. Really stuck!! Any ideas appreciated!

  • Need help writing jQuery to loop through table and inject markers into google map?

    I am new to jQuery. I've done some simple things with it but what I am attempting now is a over my head and I need some help. I am building a locator for all the firearms dealers in the US for a client. I am working within Drupal. I have a proximity search by zip code that works great. If you search by zip a list of paginated results shows up in an html table that can by paged through via ajax. I would like a map to be above this list with markers corresponding to the names and addresses being listed. I already have all the lat and long values in the table results. I want the script to update the markers and automatically zoom to fit the markers in the view when a user changes the sort order of the table or pages through the results. Also, I'd like to have a hover highlight effect over the rows of the table that simultaneously highlight the corresponding marker, and have a click on the table row equal a click on a marker that pops up a marker info window to be populated using jQuery to read the name and address fields of the table. Hope this all makes sense. I know I'm putting a lot out there, I'm not asking for someone to write the whole script, just wanted to give as many details as possible. Thanks for any help.   • Is it possible to use Google Analytics to track file downloads?

    It's always bothered me that Google Analytics (and similar embedded web traffic monitoring services) can only see a reflection of the traffic going to my server and can only see page visits since it depends on the browser executing a Javascript snippet. If I want to track real downloads of a software package (ZIP file), there's no way Google Analytics can possibly tell me that because its javascript can't be attached to a ZIP file. Is there a way I can upload my log files to Google so that the pointy-haired boss can see downloads of our ZIP/PDF/BIN files and not just visits to the download page?

  • How to access and work with XML from API in C#

    My goal is to pull XML data from the API and load it to a sql server database. The frist step I'm attempting here is to access the data and display it. Once I get this to work I'll loop through each row and insert the values into a sql server database. When I try to run the code below nothing happens and when I paste the url directly into the browser I get this error "2010-03-08 04:24:17 Wallet exhausted: retry after 2010-03-08 05:23:58. 2010-03-08 05:23:58" To me it seems that every iteration of the foreach loop makes a call to the site and I get blocked for an hour. Am I retrieving data from the API in an incorrect manner? Is there some way to load the data into memory or an array then loop through that?     I'm considering using Google Apps for email with my company domain and for sending emails to customers from my website using SMTP. On Google's website it says the following: Limits for registered Google Apps users A registered Google Apps user cannot relay messages to more than 2,000 recipients per day. Limits per domain Per-domain sending limits are determined by the number of users in your Google Apps account. There are two per-domain limits: The maximum number of recipients allowed per domain per day is approximately 130 times the number of users in your Google Apps account. The maximum number of recipients allowed per domain in a 10 minute window is approximately 9 times the number of users in your Google Apps account. Additionally, the maximum number of recipients allowed per domain per day for accounts not yet paid for during the first month of service is 100. If I'm a single user, with a single domain, then does that mean I can only email 130 people a day using SMTP? That limit seems low.

    Hi, is there any possibility how to fetch any specific type of posts from facebook news feed via graph api?For example on my news feed I have statutuses, links, photos, vidoes, and so on..I only want to get the ones with type=status over graph api..I have seen some get parameters in documentation, but nothing like ?type=link..So I have tried /me/home?type=link, but unsurprisingly it have not worked:D So does anyone know how to do that?I can filter it in my PHP app, but then I need to get some further data..When I got 20 posts and only 10 would be statuses, I need to add the 10 remaiming? It is too possible, but I dont know how to do that:D Please help..!Thanks

    TinEye provides a great way to "reverse" search by image (i.e. upload/transload an image and have multiple possible sources of that image returned as results.) Since screen-scraping is messy and unreliable, I'm looking for a free API/library/web-service that could offer the same (or similar) reverse-image search function. At present, TinEye offers a commercial API, but since I'll only be using the service for small personal projects, it's hard to justify the cost of the service (the lowest being 1,000 searches for $70 USD). Is anyone aware of such a free service? Or is there a simpler way to approach this (programmatic solution; any language)? I understand that this is a tall order, and submitting the question is really only a last resort in the hope that there is some solution.     Does clicking a link in chrome tell google the link is used by humans and there fore not just automated backlink spam. It sounds weird but i read it today on a slightly obscure seo blog, they mensionned clicking the backlinks they make in a version of chrome where they have the "send data annonmusly to google" feature turned on. It sounded a bit far fetched but then i thought it could have a truth to it as with google now looking harder at "spammy" links it would mean at least some humans are using them. Has any one else heard anything else about this ?

    You know the comments on Google Docs word processing documents? And how it creates a little discussion over in the right-hand margin? I love it. Great for collaboration. I want to free it from Google Docs so I can use it with clients to discuss mock-ups or scaffolded websites. Searching Google for "add comments [or discussions] to any website" only gets you results for adding blog-like comments (Disqus, JS-Kit, etc.) Anyone know of a solution for what I'm after here?

    I'm using the WhitePages API ( developer.whitepages.com ) to get a phone type (landline or cellular) and the phone's service provider (Verizon, T-Mobile, etc), but they only have a personal API which limits you to 2 calls a second and/or 1,500 calls a day. The paid version, or "Pro", is a minimum of $500 a month and/or $0.10 a call. Does anyone know another service where I can get that information for free or cheaper than $500 / $0.10 a call? If not I'll have to try to cache everything and it'll technically be against their TOS...

  • My webcam is not working with Google+ Hangout, can I make it work?

    I just got an invitation for Google+, the video conference feature "hangout" is the first feature I checked out, and unfortunately the webcam is not working, the mic and speakers work ok. When I started it, it recquired me to install a new version of Google Talk plugin 2.1.7.0. It seems that now the gmail chat and the chat within empathy( that used to work) does not work either. in the settings of the webcam in google hangout window my only option, is gspca driver. Notice that my cam had problems with skype, and i had to go around it by env LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so skype How can I make it work?

    I had a blog site, i.e. http://example2.com, then I bought a new domain, i.e. http://example.com and 301 permanent redirected example2.com to example.com. But when I get into the Google Webmaster Tools, if I get some 404, and then click into the link and see the "Linked from" tab, it shows some links like: http://example.com/post-1 http://example2.com/feed http://example2.com/post-1 According to Google, if you change your domain, just use a redirection for at least 4-6 months, but it almost passed. Then why Google has still traces of my old site? The issue is important, because I don't want to pay for the old domain anymore. I tried deleting my existing sitemap.xml and recreating it from the new site, but still such links are stored. What could I do?

    Hi friends, The issue is this: I have a web application that runs on a PHP server. I'd like to build a REST api for it. I did some research and I figured out that REST api uses HTTP methods (GET, POST...) for certain URI's with an authentication key (not necessarily) and the information is presented back as a HTTP response with the info as XML or JSON (I'd rather JSON). My question is: 1. How do I, as the developer of the app, build those URI's? Do I need to write a PHP code at that URI? 2. How do I build the JSON objects to return as a response?     Possible Duplicate: Why isn't my website in Google search results? I have submitted my website today into Google search using Google Webmasters using sitemaps. The status on the sitemap says OK and it shows that 12 urls have been recognized. I was wondering how long does it take for the link to get indexed, as the indexed url option says "No data available. Please check back soon." I am not sure if it is showing this message due to some error, or everything is fine.

I've read the Soundcloud API documentation but it seems obscure and far from my reach. I've installed the PHP library for using the API and Oauth, and set up my SoundCloud application to get my Consumer Keys, but I can't start the OAuth session. I'm using this library.   • How do API Keys and Secret Keys work?

    I am just starting to think about how api keys and secret keys work. Just 2 days ago I signed up for Amazon S3 and installed the S3Fox Plugin. They asked me for both my Access Key and Secret Access Key, both of which require me to login to access. So I'm wondering, if they're asking me for my secret key, they must be storing it somewhere right? Isn't that basically the same thing as asking me for my credit card numbers or password and storing that in their own database? How are secret keys and api keys supposed to work? How secret do they need to be? Are these applications that use the secret keys storing it somehow? Thanks for the insight.
