    Am surprised there's 3 different forms: RawConfigParser, SafeConfigParser and ConfigParser. I read the differences but why isn't everyone using SafeConfigParser, since it seems, well, safe? I can understand that in the case for Python 2 that the other two were kept for backward compatibility.

    I am trying really hard to make a sliding frame containing widgets in tkinter in python. There is this frame inside a big window with different widgets. And as soon as i click on the next button on that frame the frame should slowly slide towards the left and vanish ultimately. As soon as it vanishes, i want new frame with widgets to come sliding towards right. What should i do? Anticipating your suggestions and ideas.

    Hi there, I feel like this is quite delicate, I have various folders whith projects I would like to backup into a zip/tar file, but would like to avoid backing up files such as pyc files and temporary files. I also have a Postgres db I need to backup. Any tips for running this operation as a python script? Also, would there be anyway to stop the process from hogging resources in the process? Help would be very much appreciated.

  • Splitting a list in python

    Hi, I'm writing a parser in Python. I've converted an input string into a list of tokens, such as: ['(', '2', '.', 'x', '.', '(', '3', '-', '1', ')', '+', '4', ')', '/', '3', '.', 'x', '^', '2'] I want to be able to split the list into multiple lists, like the str.split('+') function. But there doesn't seem to be a way to do my_list.split('+'). Any ideas? Thanks!

    I'm writing a shell for a project of mine, which by design parses commands that looks like this: COMMAND_NAME ARG1="Long Value" ARG2=123 [email protected] My problem is that Python's command line parsing libraries (getopt and optparse) forces me to use '-' or '--' in front of the arguments. This behavior doesn't match my requirements. Any ideas how can this be solved? Any existing library for this?

    I want to parse a html-page that unfortunately requires JavaScript to show any content. In order to do so I use a small python-script that pulls the html-code of the page, but after that I have to execute the JavaScript in a DOM-context which seems pretty hard. To make it even harder I want to use it in a server environment that has no X11-server. Note: I already read about http://code.google.com/p/pywebkitgtk/ but it seems to need a X-server.

    Hi I have a MySQL server that I need access through a VPN. I use MySQLdb package to access MySQL server in Python. When I can access the server without VPN, it works fine, but when I'm at certain locations, I need to connect through VPN. My computer is connected to the VPN and I can access the database through PHPMyAdmin, but MySQLdb gives me an error message: OperationalError: (2003, "Can't connect to MySQL server on 'MY_IP' (10061)") Any ideas on why it's not working?     (Using python 3.2 currently) I need to be able to: Run a command using subprocess Both stdout/stderr of that command need be printed to the terminal in real-time (it doesn't matter if they both come out on stdout or stderr or whatever At the same time, I need a way to know if the command printed anything to stderr (and preferably what it printed). I've played around with subprocess pipes as well as doing strange pipe redirects in bash, as well as using tee, but as of yet haven't found anything that would work. Is this something that's possible?

    I have an unknown number of functions in my python script (well, it is known, but not constant) that start with site_... I was wondering if there's a way to go through all of these functions in some main function that calls for them. something like: foreach function_that_has_site_ as coolfunc if coolfunc(blabla,yada) == true: return coolfunc(blabla,yada) so it would go through them all until it gets something that's true. thanks!
