  • How do I use beta test Perl modules from test Perl scripts?

    If my Perl code has a production code location and "beta" code location (e.g. production Perl code us in /usr/code/scripts, BETA Perl code is in /usr/code/beta/scripts; production Perl libraries are in /usr/code/lib/perl and BETA versions of those libraries are in /usr/code/beta/lib/perl, is there an easy way for me to achieve such a setup? The exact requirements are: The code must be THE SAME in production and BETA location. To clarify, to promote any code (library or script) from BETA to production, the ONLY thing which needs to happen is literally issuing cp command from BETA to prod location - both the file name AND file contents must remain identical. BETA versions of scripts must call other BETA scripts and BETA libraries (if exist) or production libraries (if BETA libraries do not exist) The code paths must be the same between BETA and production with the exception of base directory (/usr/code/ vs /usr/code/beta/) I will present how we solved the problem as an answer to this question, but I'd like to know if there's a better way.

    Hi We got a problem with NUnit 2.5.3: nunit-console.exe does not return after finishing all tests. The process hangs forever. Example: All tests succeed, but it keeps doing something. The application makes extensive use of recordsets, but I have not been able to get them to work in C#. Specifically, I have trouble casting Command and Recordset to the correct format for C#.   • UIScrollView subviews not showing at first

    I created a custom UIScrollView subclass that works a like a UITableView, keeping a collection of subviews and re-using them whenever the user scrolls. It's implemented like this: -(void)layoutSubviews { for(UIView *subview in [self subviews]) [subview removeFromSuperview]; // then re-add subviews after changing the frame and some attributes } This works fine with simple UIViews, but when I try to do it with a UIView that has a UILabel subview, the "base" view appears fine, but the UILabel doesn't show up at all. I can get the UILabel to show up by scrolling the entire UIView off screen and then bringing it back on. What could be causing this? So far, I've tried calling [myUIView setNeedsLayout], [myUIView setNeedsDisplay], and [myUIView layoutIfNeeded] from various places. None of them worked, and the last one crashed my app. I've also done the same thing to myUIScrollViewSubclass, with similar results.

    Hello, I've been tasked with designing a very simple SSO (single sign-on) process. My employer has specified that it should be implimented in SAML. I'd like to create messages that are absolutely as simple as possible while confirming to the SAML spec. I'd be really grateful if some of you would look at my request and response messages and tell me if they make sense for my purpose, if they include anything that doesn't need to be there, and if they are missing anything that does need to be there. Addionally, I'd like to know where in the response I should put additional information about the subject; in particular, the subject's email address. The interaction needs to work as follows: 1) User requests service from service provider at this point, the service provider knows nothing about the user. 2) Service provider requests authentication for user from identity provider 3) User is authenticated/registered by identity provider 4) Identity provider responds to Service provider with authentication success message, PLUS user's email address.   • Python coding test problem for interviews

    I'm trying to come up with a good coding problem to ask interview candidates to solve with Python. They'll have an hour to work on the problem, with an IDE and access to documentation (we don't care what people have memorized). I'm not looking for a tough algorithmic problem - there are other sections of the interview where we do that kind of thing. The point of this section is to sit and watch them actually write code. So it should be something that makes them use just the data structures which are the everyday tools of the application developer - lists, hashtables (dictionaries in Python), etc, to solve a quasi-realistic task. They shouldn't be blocked completely if they can't think of something really clever. We have a problem which we use for Java coding tests, which involves reading a file and doing a little processing on the contents. It works well with candidates who are familiar with Java (or even C++). But we're running into a number of candidates who just don't know Java or C++ or C# or anything like that, but do know Python or Ruby. Which shouldn't exclude them, but leaves us with a dilemma: On the one hand, we don't learn much from watching someone struggle with the basics of a totally unfamiliar language. On the other hand, the problem we use for Java turns out to be pretty trivial in Python (or Ruby, etc) - anyone halfway competent can do it in 15 minutes. So, I'm trying to come up with something better. Surprisingly, Google doesn't show me anyone doing something like this, unless I'm just too dumb to enter the obvious search term. The best idea I've come up with involves scheduling workers to time slots, but it's maybe a little too open-ended. Have you run into a good example? Or a bad one? Or do you just have an idea?

    This is probably a simple problem. But I downloaded the pywiiuse library from here and I also downloaded the examples. However when I try to run one of the examples I end up with import issues. I'm not certain I have everything configured properly to run.     So it seems like a lot of people are playing the blame game around where I work, and it brings up an interesting question. Knowns: Requirements team writes requirements for product. Developers create their own unit tests out of requirements. Testing team creates their general tests out of requirements and past customer issues. Product released if and only if X% of testcases from Testing team passes Customer response team gets bugs from the field, and lets the testing team know about these issues. Question: If the customer ends up filing a lot of defects, who is to blame? Is it the Testing team for not covering those? Or is it the requirements team for not writing better requirements? And how does one improve upon the system?

    Over the past several days I have been trying to get the shadow to work with samba but haven’t been successful. Can someone check below config and let me know if I am missing something? We are using Equallogic SAN and iSCSI LUNS to mount volumes. I can cleanly access samba shares on Windows 7 clients but just not shadow copy.   • Open source license for test code

    I'm creating a project to house an iPhone library for common code for the iPhone... essentially it's a library that'll save people from finding solutions to common problems that amount to copying and pasting snippets of code. The site is located here: http://code.google.com/p/devkit-bb/ I licensed it under Eclipse, because fosters the extension of the library without requiring constraints like LGPL on object files being provided/made available, which would be the case since everything is statically linked. What I'm wondering is how/what license to apply to the unit tests? Since they essentially demonstrate how to use various interfaces and components. Thus they're designed for potential copy and paste situations, and I don't want people who might end up using this as part of the building blocks of their environment to feel like the license would prohibit that "derivative work", ie. their application or game.

    How can I tell if my call to SendInput is working properly? I have a small snippet below, and the message never seems to get hit. SendInput() returns 1, and there's no errors, so I assume that the message is going out properly.   • How to prevent HTTP 304 in Django test server

    I have a couple of projects in Django and alternate between one and another every now and then. All of them have a /media/ path, which is served by django.views.static.serve, and they all have a /media/css/base.css file. The problem is, whenever I run one project, the requests to base.css return an HTTP 304 (not modified), probably because the timestamp hasn't changed. But when I run the other project, the same 304 is returned, making the browser use the file cached by the previous project (and therefore, using the wrong stylesheet). Just for the record, here are the middleware classes: MIDDLEWARE_CLASSES = ( 'django.middleware.common.CommonMiddleware', 'django.contrib.sessions.middleware.SessionMiddleware', 'django.contrib.auth.middleware.AuthenticationMiddleware', 'django.middleware.transaction.TransactionMiddleware', ) I always use the default address http://localhost:8000. Is there another solution (other than using different ports - 8001, 8002, etc.)?

  • Bad http connection (400) from Simple Native Iphone App to test .net Web Service

    Dear all, I have written a simple hello world .net web service which will accept 2 parameters and return the parameters as a string. The web service is hosted by IIS on a windows xp pc. I am able to access the web service using safari on the iphone simulator, successfully tested the operation using HTTP POST by clicking the "invoke" button. However, when I use the native app on the iphone simulator, I keep getting a bad http connection error 400 on the IIS log. I have tested my native app with http://viium.com/WebService/HelloWorld.asmx and it works. I have already added Does anyone know what is wrong? Is it some settings that have not configured correctly?
