    I’m trying to connect over internet to my home workstation which has Windows Server 2008 R2 (Web Edition) installed from my PC at work (Windows 7 installed on it) via Remote Desktop. I configure the workstation to accept remote desktop and I can connect to it from my laptop if I’m within same Home LAN but I can’t establish the connection from my PC at work . My question is: Is possible to connect to my workstation over internet using remote desktop? Is there any step by step resource the setup this feature?

    With LaTeX, I can do: \documentclass[10pt]{article} \usepackage[symbol*]{footmisc} \begin{document} One\footnote{f1} Two \footnote{f2} Three \footnote{f3} Four \footnote{f4} \end{document} And get *, †, ‡, § ... as consecutive footnote markers. MS-Word has this feature too - an alternative footnote numbering scheme. How can I achieve the same with LibreOffice? PS - Shouldn't the OpenOffice and LibreOffice tags be merged?

It even has a handy feature to remove the notifications that it sent, for example if I spoofed a notification from another app like CodeKit, syntax being: terminal-notifier -sender com.incident57.CodeKit -remove ALL But I guess this application is not able to clear the notifications that it did not send, as the other messages are still hanging around: It's a great tool but it still leaves me wondering: How can I clear the notification center from Terminal?

    Let's say I have a directory with a few files in it like this: $ ls file1 file2 file3 And I want to do some tab completion in bash: $ cat file<tab> file1 file2 file3 I remember seeing someone doing tab completion and the shell bolded the next parts, so in this case, it would bold the 1, 2 and 3 of the filename so it'll look like this: file**1** file**2** file**3** which will tell you what you should type in next. I think this was a feature of zsh, but is there any way to get it in bash?

    If I run an executable file downloaded from the Internet, Windows displays a warning that this file can potentially harm my computer. This happens even for files downloaded by Firefox (not just IE.) On networked drive, this seems to slow down program launch time a lot. From Wikipedia, I learned that the feature is called "Attachment Execution Service". How can I completely disable it? If this cannot be done, how can I instruct Firefox not to set the "downloaded" flag on the file?

    Are there any programs (for PC) that will constantly monitor what programs and windows within those programs you have open, and then restore each of those windows in case of a crash/forced restart? (looking specifically for Outlook, but open to all ideas)? Something similar to Chrome's feature where after a crash, it says "Looks like Chrome didn't shut down properly. Would you like to restore your open tabs?"

    I was thinking of turning this on some large databases not just mail files - we have around 8 - 10GB of large databases as well as small databases of couple of hundred MB in size.   • Windows 7 remains powered on when restarting

    I'm running windows 7 x64 on an MSI P67A-GD53 motherboard, in an Antec P280 Super Midi Towercase with a Corsair 650w PSU. I've just installed a second instance of windows 7 x64 on a separate disk (this is to keep my games separate from my work OS). The problem is that it appears now that I cannot restart from either instance of Windows 7. The shut down command, and sleep commands work as expected. When I try to restart, the shutdown happens but the system never reboots. Everything remains powered on, until I hold down the power button to force the power off. Ithink (but am not 100% sure) this has only started since I installed the second OS, and am assuming this has something to do with the motherboard needing to know which OS to run up again? Some other forums I've read suggest that the PSU has a major role in restart and could be at fault. Changing the boot order of the disks in the BIOS does not change anything. Any suggestions greatfully recieved! Update: I now have a reproduceable issue: I think the secondary OS install may have been a red herring. It was when windows tried to reboot during the install that I noticed the issue. After playing around with installing drivers, and rebooting many many times, I have found that it is the OC genie setting on the MSI motherboard that seems to trigger the problem. This makes sense as I only started using the OC genie feature a couple of weeks ago, and probably hadn't used restart in that time. However... simply turning off OC genie does not make the issue go away. I have to turn off OC genie, shutdown, start enter bios, go to the "Save and Exit" menu "Restore Defaults" yes to "Load optimized defaults", which will reset to clear the problem. Now when the PC boots into windows, I can restart as normal (and from the OS on either HDD). I only know how to control the issue, and don't still know the root cause. I'd like to be able to use the OC genie function if anyone can suggest a why I'm seeing this problem. Could it be that I'm drawing too much power when using OC feature?

    I have a computer that's been taking backups using Windows 7's Backup and Restore feature. However, I now need to reclaim hard disk space, and am trying to figure out what I can safely delete. When I go into the Backup and Restore options on the machine, it shows several backups. Is it safe to delete the older ones? Or is it an incremental backup, that means that files not changed since before the last backup would then be lost?

  • Why do Ping and Dig provide different IP address than nslookup?

    When pinging my domain name which points to my home public IP from two different servers on my LAN, it shows them pinging different IP. Further investigation shows dig and nslookup providing different results. See below. A little history. My IP used to be 11.22.33.444 and is hosted by Comcast. I changed routers, and it somehow got changed to 55.66.77.888. I've since updated my 1and1 domain name to point to the 55.66.77.888. desktop is a basic server, runs the web server, and connects wirelessly to my LAN. laptop is a GUI and connected via CAT5. Both operate Centos6.4. My old router was a D-Link, and used their "Virtual Server" feature to pass port 80 to desktop. My new router is a Linksys, and I use their "Port Forwarding" feature to pass port 80 to desktop (however, I haven't gotten this part working yet). What is going on??? Why the different IPs? Obviously, it most somehow be stored on the server, but why does the actual machine even know the public IP since it is on a LAN? How do I purge the old IP?     I have been using Thunderbird Buttons! plug-in for years with Thunderbird 2.0, especially it's nifty Archive feature that lets you archive the message to one of the pre-set folder with a single mouse click. Unfortunately this plug-in doesn't work with Thunderbird version 3.0.4 and later. The plugin has not been updated since 2007. So could anybody recommend any fix or replacement for this?
