• Can a PL/pgSQL function contain a dynamic subquery?

  I am writing a PL/pgSQL function. The function has input parameters which specify (indirectly), which tables to read filtering information from. The function embeds business logic which allows it to select data from different tables based on the input arguments. The function dynamically builds a subquery which returns filtering data which is then used to run the main query. My questions are: Is it 'legal' to use a dynamic subquery in a PL/pgSQL function. I cant see why not - but this question is related to the next one. AFAIK, PL/pgSQL are cached or precompiled by the query engine. How does having a function that generates dynamic subqueries impact the work of the query engine?

  I am currently writing my truly first PHP Application and i would like to know how to project/design/implement MySQL Views properly; In my particular case User data is spread across several tables (as a consequence of Database Normalization) and i was thinking to use a View to group data into one large table: CREATE VIEW `Users_Merged` ( name, surname, email, phone, role ) AS ( SELECT name, surname, email, phone, 'Customer' FROM `Customer` ) UNION ( SELECT name, surname, email, tel, 'Admin' FROM `Administrator` ) UNION ( SELECT name, surname, email, tel, 'Manager' FROM `manager` ); This way i can use the View's data from the PHP app easily but i don't really know how much this can affect performance. For example: SELECT * from `Users_Merged` WHERE role = 'Admin'; Is the right way to filter view's data or should i filter BEFORE creating the view itself?   I'm dynamically adding a Boolean column to a DataSet. The DataSet's table is the DataSource for a GridView, which AutoGenerates the columns. Issue: The checkboxes for this dynamically generated column are all disabled. How can I enable them? ds.Tables["Transactions"].Columns.Add("Retry", typeof(System.Boolean)); ds.Tables["Transactions"].Columns["Retry"].ReadOnly = false; In other words, how can I control how GridView generates the CheckBoxes for a Boolean field? • How to properly name record creation(insertion) datetime field ?

  If I create a table with datetime default getdate() field that is intended to keep date&time of record insertion, which name is better to use for that field ? I like to use Created and I've seen people use DateCreated or CreateDate. Other possible candidates that I can think of are: CreatedDate, CreateTime, TimeCreated, CreateDateTime, DateTimeCreated, RecordCreated, Inserted, InsertedDate, ... From my point of view anything with Date inside name looks bad because it can be confused with date part in case if I have 2 fields: CreateDate,CreateTime, so I wonder if there are any specific recommendations/standards in that area based on real reasons, not just style, mood or consistency. Of course, if there are 100 existing tables and this is table 101 then I would use same naming convention as used in those 100 tables for the sake of consistency, but this question is about first table in first database in first server in first application.

  I have a database containing tables with more than 600 million records and a set of stored procedures that make complex search operations on the database. The performance of the stored procedures is so slow even with suitable indexes on the tables. The design of the database is a normal relational db design. I want to change the database design to be multidimensional and use the MDX queries instead of the traditional T-SQL queries but the question is: Is the MDX query better than the traditional T-SQL query with regard to performance? and if yes, to what extent will that improve the performance of the queries?   Hi, I am trying to learn Microsoft MVC 2, and have in that case found a small project I wanted to deploy it on. My idea was to simulate a restaurant where you can order a table. Basics: A user can only reserve a full table, so I don't have the trouble of merging people on different tables. A person can order a table for a certain amount of hours. My question was how I could make the data model the smartest way. I thought of just having a my database like this: Table { Id, TableName } Reservations { Id TableId ReservedFrom ReservedTo UserId } User { UserId UserName ... } By doing it this way I would have to program a lot of the logic in e.g. the business layer, to support which tables are occupied at what time, instead of having the data model handle it. Therefore do you guys have a better way to do this?

  Please bear with me(beginner). I am planning to set up an application where visitors can login and play/mess around with my application. So I want to refresh my php application once a day with a cron job. But I never wrote a cron job script before. I understand that I have to truncate all the tables/data and add the initial data. With phpmyadmin, I can import data. Is there any way I can import sql file after truncate the tables? What is the best way? Do I have to create table and insert all data?   I would like to convert doc/docx documents to semantic HTML. Some wishes/requirements: Semantic HTML such that headers in the document are <h1>, <h2> etc., tables are <table> and so forth. Should preferably be possible to handle headings, lists, tables and images. Graphs and math formulas is a nice extra. • Doesn't have to be converted straight from doc/docx to html, could use an intermediary format, such as xml or docbook. • Should work programatically, and with large number of documents. The closest thing to a solution I've found so far is http://holloway.co.nz/docvert/index.html, but unfortunately there are many a few bugs, small user base and it can't handle a lot of documents. More of a proof of concept.

  Say I have two series in pandas, series A and series B. How do I create a dataframe in which all of those values are multiplied together, i.e. with series A down the left hand side and series B along the top. Meaning solutions that are either more readable or faster(optimized) or simply best-practice.   I have two tables that I'm filling, 'msrun' and 'feature'. 'feature' has a foreign key pointing to the 'msrun_name' column of the 'msrun' table. Inserting in the tables works fine. But when I try to delete from the 'feature' table I get the following error: pysqlite2.dbapi2.OperationalError: foreign key mismatch From the rules of foreign keys in the manual of SQLite: - The parent table does not exist, or - The parent key columns named in the foreign key constraint do not exist, or - The parent key columns named in the foreign key constraint are not the primary key of the parent table and are not subject to a unique constraint using collating sequence specified in the CREATE TABLE, or - The child table references the primary key of the parent without specifying the primary key columns and the number of primary key columns in the parent do not match the number of child key columns. I can see nothing that I'm violating.   Hi guys, This is my first question in stackoverflow but really not the first time to get solution here. I am struggling with multiple join in entity framework 4. I have three tables (Accounts, Users and AccountUsers) that am finding difficult to query. What I want is to get all the users for the provided accountId including the account creator. I can get all the account users with no problem but the hard side for me is getting the account creator since it's not added to AccountUsers table. below is a quick preview how the tables are related. Accounts AccountId UserId (account creator) ...other columns Users UserId ...other columns AccountUsers AccountId UserId I would prefer the query to be esql, but Linq to Entities will do. I trust you guys on stackoverflow, so I know this won't take long to get the 'Answer' mark. Thanks for even reading.

• Using MySQL as data source in Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services

  Hi, I have installed the latest .net connector (http://www.mysql.com/downloads/connector/net/), I can add MySQL databases as Data Sources, I can even browse through the data from Business Intelligence Studio. The problem is that I CANNOT create a datasource view, or if I do create one without tables, trying to add them after the fact gives me the same error. Specifically it looks like the data source view wizard tries to submit queries against the MySQL database using square brackets/braces, and the query bombs. I get an error message like: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '[my_db].[cheatType]' at line 2 So, in summary, has anyone been able to create a data source view using MySQL tables and, if so, can they please show me how this can be done.   Here i need help with joins. I have two tables say articles and users. while displaying articles i need to display also the user info like username, etc. So will it be better if i just use joins to join the articles and user tables to fetch the user info while displaying articles like below. SELECT a.*,u.username,u.id FROM articles a JOIN users u ON u.id=a.user_id OR can this one in php.
