• jQuery validation plugin - no error messages instead custom backgrounds

  I am using the jQuery validation plugin. The form which is being validated has custom background images for the text input fields, so instead of showing an error message for invalid fields I would like to change the background image. Making things a bit trickier is that the background image for the fields is on a different div absolutely positioned behind the text field (which has a transparent background and no border). I will spare going into the reasons for this design decision here (it's related to margins within the text field) but I thought it should be mentioned since it is critical to this question. Therefore, I have two questions: How can I stop the display of the error messages all-together? How can I instead tell the validation plugin if, for example, the name field (e.g. <input id=name ... />) is invalid then it should change the background for the relevant div (e.g. <div id=name-bg... ></div>)? It has a lower vertical height, so I can see all the classes at a glance with less scrolling, the tabulation of the hierarchy seems more apparent, and it looks more like code I'd write with javascript or html. Is this a valid way of doing code, or to keep with standards when putting it online should I use the vertical form instead?

  I have assigned the 80% height of the viewport to my div as height. In Button click i have displayed the height of the div. This works fine in ie9, ie10. • Prevent bubbling without Jquery

  When I move mouse over the container panel, the child panel is displayed but as soon as i move mouse over the child panel, the mouseout event is triggered and panel get hidden. This is simplified version of my code because panels are located inside gridview and therefore i can't use document.getElementById("panelchild") as it is (the js will get the specific id latter), but for now i want to make it work for this simple case. • Center container horizontally and vertically

  Looking over other question on this site, I used a method of setting all the positions to 0 with auto margins, but this has some unwanted behavior. If you resize the window vertically, the top of the container moves off of the top of the page. It needs to stop when it hits the top. • CSS:Hover's problem with text that is hidden because of overflow:hidden ?

  In my application i have lots of divs containing text. All divs have overflow set to hidden so that the user does not see the text if the container is not large enough to contain the writing. If the user wants to see the hidden text they are supposed to mouse over the "box". The box then expands and shows the text. Sounds simple enough, right? Well i am having problems and the solution i tried did not work. The problem is that when the user mouses over the box, the text does indeed appears but stays really narrow and comes out of the bottom box, the sameway it would if overflow was set to visible. below is the standard css applied to the div box: .newevent { overflow: hidden; z-index: 0; } I Tried to fix this by setting a hover trigger, when it is activated the box widens, i thought that this would then mean there would be more space to display the text, below is the hover effect: .newevent div:hover { width: 200px; padding: 50px; background-color:#D4D4D4; border: medium red dashed; overflow: visible; z-index: 1; } How do i go about "redrawing" the text when it is hovered over, so that the text can use the new widened area rather than behaving as it is still in a narrow box.

• jQuery : how to determine that a div is scrolled down

  I have a div with defined height, and overflow:scroll;. Its content is too long so scrollbars appear. Now for the ichy part. Some of its inner HTML strangely appears all the time (to be precise, the footer of a table generated by the tableFilter plugin). I'd like to make this footer disappear when it is not needed (it actually appears out of the containing <div>'s border). I resolved to make it disappear but setting its z-index to -1000. But I want to make it appear when the containing <div> is totally scrolled down. How can I know the user has scrolled at the bottom ? Using the help from answers below, I used scrollTop attribute but the difference between scrollTop and innerHeight is the size of the scrollbar plus some unidentified delta. A scrollbar is 16 pixels high in most browsers under Windows, but I get a difference of 17 in Firefox and something like 20 in IE, where my <div> content's borders seems to be rendered bigger. A way (actually two ways...) to compute the scrollbar size has been given there.

• Inserting Row in Table inside Form tag autosubmitting in firefox/chrome

  I have a form that will have dynamic elements inserted with javascript and am experiencing some strange behavior. • What is better for a student programming in C++ to learn for writing GUI: C# vs QT?

  I'm a teacher(instructor) of CS in the university. The course is based on Cormen and Knuth and students program algorithms in C++. But sometimes it is good to show how an algorithm works or just a result of task through GUI. Also in my opinion it's very imporant to be able to write full programs. They will have courses concerning GUI but a three years, later, in fact, before graduatuion. I think that they should be able to write simple GUI applications earlier. So I want to teach them it. How do you think, what is more useful for them to learn: programming GUI with QT or writing GUI in C# and calling unmanaged C++ library? Update. For developing C++ applications students use MS Visual studio, so C# is already installed. But QT AFAIK also can be integrated into VS. I have following pros of C# (some were suggested there in answers): The need to make an additional layer. It's more work, but it forces you explicitly specify contract between GUI and processing data. The border between GUI and algorithms becomes very clear. It's more popular among employers. At least, in Russia where we live. It's rather common to write performance-critical algorithms in C++ and PInvoke them from well-looking C# application/ASP.Net website. Maybe it is not so widespread in the rest of the world but in Russia Windows is very popular, especially in companies and corporations due to some reasons, so most of b2b applications are Windows applications. Rapid development. It's much quicker to code in .Net then in C++ due to many reasons. And the con is that it's a new language with own specific for students. And the mess with invoking calls to library.

• Firefox doesn't display text on webpage.

  hello, I was successful in displaying text on webpage but in firefox, it does not display the text at all. If i see the page source, it has text in there. but why doesn't it display? In Chrome and IE, it works fine. Edit: When i used firebug, it looks like the content is behind the screen. I just guess. • Image on mouseover takes space on PageLoad.

  Hello, I am trying to show an image on Mouseover and hide it on Mouseout. I am successful in mouseover and mouseout but the image is actually taking the space around the text though i have visibility as hidden.. The text is surrounded with the space of image but the image is displayed on mouseover.
