• Reducing the time between checks on a Nagios server

  Can anyone let me know how I would reduce time between Last Check Time and Next Scheduled Check on a particular service. I have a very critical task to monitor and the time between checks is currently 5 minutes, which is too long for this service. Can I reduce that time? I need this to be 1 minute or even 30 seconds. I want Nagios to check this service every 30 seconds. • Shell script with ImageMagick: hangs forever?

  I've generated a shell script that uses ImageMagick to convert and crop around 18000 images. • Slight delay when switching modes in vim using tmux or screen

  Switching to and from insert mode in Vim is no longer instantaneous since I use tmux. After pressing Esc in insert mode, it takes a noticeable amount of time to actually get out of insert mode. After pressing Esc and any other key afterwards the switch is immediate, and the command for the key pressed after Esc is executed. Any idea what might cause this? The Vim configuration is not the problem as the delay does not occur when I run Vim outside tmux, so this is probably related to tmux somehow. I use gnome-terminal btw. Also worth noting, it seems I can not define key bindings in tmux for Esc, my plan was to bind Esc to: bind Escape send-keys ^[ Alas, it seems binding anything to Esc for tmux does not work. The same problem occurs in screen as well.

  I have written various scripts to launch Java server applications, which are typically run for 24 hours before being shut down (by invoking the same script with a different parameter). The script relies on environment variables defined in a file: ~/<user>.env, which I source from .bashrc. This works fine when invoking the script from the command line but if I want to add the script as a crontab entry I run into the problem where .bashrc isn't read. My question: What is the best practice approach for solving this problem? I realise I could define a crontab entry such as: * * * * 1-5 /usr/bin/bash -c '. /home/myuser/myuser.env && /home/myuser/scripts/myscript.sh' ... but this seems plain ugly. Alternatively I could source myuser.env at the beginning of every script, but this would become a nightmare to maintain. Any help appreciated.

• Postfix sends to original recipient name instead of alias name

  I have setup Postfix as part of my ISPConfig implementation. It should just forward all mail. Clients should be able to define a new alias and receive mail on a different e-mail address, using ISPConfig. Example: A mail sent to [email protected] on my ISPConfig server should be forwarded to external mailbox [email protected] This works fine but one important thing. When opening the mailbox for [email protected] I see the mail with the original sender name, and the original recipient name, i.e. [email protected] I have tried the forward function and the send copy function on a mailbox in ISPConfig. Both cases show the original recipient [email protected] instead of the final recipient [email protected], as it would when I manually forward an e-mail. Can this be achieved without having to maintain a list for each entry? Thanks for looking into this. M.

• Change the format of the date column in Thunderbird

  I want to change the format of the "Date"-column in the messagelist in Thunderbird. For mails from today, I want to display only the time, not the date. For mails from before today, I want to display only the date, not the time. This is the same setup mutt uses. I know of the Date display format wiki article, which describes how to change the date format, but you can only switch between five predefined formats, and none of them is "Date only". I also know of the ConfigDate extension, but it's got the same limitations, you can't define a new date format.

• Adding a trigger command to autocomplete function in zsh

  When you define an alias like alias g=git, the shell will pick it up and run the corresponding autocomplete function. Now, there's a program out there called hub, which is basically a supserset of git, with some added, github-specific functionality. The recommended way to use hub is to alias git=hub. Of course, this won't trigger the autocomplete function for git, which makes sense. Now, if I wanted to have git's autocomplete trigger for hub, the only way I know of is editing /usr/share/zsh/functions/Completion/Unix/_git and adding hub in the first line as trigger. While this works, it isn't practical, since this file will get overwritten with the next zsh release. Assuming hub won't provide a zsh completion function any time soon, is there another way of adding hub to the trigger commands for git's autocomplete function?

With that in place, this all works fantastic. Comment that out, and var start is undefined when we hit the line to define var request. I discovered this when I removed the alert I put in there to show me the value of var start, and it quit working. If I DO ask it to alert me the value of var start, it tells me it's undefined, BUT it has a valid (and accurate!) value when we define var request a few lines later. I'm suspecting it's a timing issue--like an asynchronous something is having time to complete in the background in the moment it takes me to dismiss the alert. Any thoughts on work-arounds?

• Thunderbird: Synchronize tags

  When I check my mail (via IMAP) on my laptop I'd like to see the same tags that I set when I checked my mail on my office computer. So the question is: Is it possible to synchronize user-specified mail tags between Thunderbird running on different computers? I've read that tags could be stored via IMAP on the server, so maybe it's just that the server of my mail provider does not support this IMAP feature? (Whichever it is...) Has anybody any experience with this? Related, but not my primary concern: Will there ever be a more flexible tagging system in Thunderbird which allows for an easier definition of new tags? (I.e. that a don't have to define new tags in the preferences menu, but can just type them in when reading a mail?)

• Set Error-Pages for all Applications in Tomcat

  I'm trying to set up custom error pages in tomcat 6, because I don't want the default ones to show up. My error pages are static html, no jsp or anything dynamic. I know how to do this through the web.xml in each application but I'd prefere to setup the error pages only once for the entire server. I tried to add the following fragment to the global web.xml (in conf), but no matter what I add under location, it does not show. <error-page> <error-code>404</error-code> <location>/404.html</location> </error-page> What do I need to do to gobally define custom error pages? • My PowerShell functions do not appear to be registered

  Hi there, I have a ps1 script in which I define 2 functions as such: function Invoke-Sql([string]$query) { Invoke-Sqlcmd -ServerInstance $Server -Database $DB -User $User -Password $Password -Query $query } function Get-Queued { Invoke-Sql "Select * From Comment where AwaitsModeration = 1" } I then call the ps1 file by typing it in (it's in a folder in the path, and autocompletion works) However, I cannot start using the functions. I am confused, because when I copy / paste the functions into the console, all is fine and they work. I also have a function defined in my profile, and it works. Where am I thinking wrong, why doesn't it work what I'm trying to do?

• Enable roaming profile from group policy

  I've had a reasonable look around the AD policies but am I right in saying the only place that you can enable & define the group policy location is by editing the user, i.e. there isn't a group policy setting to (say) "Set the profile location to \myserver\users\%username%\profile" for all users in group XYZ? I suspect this might be because of chicken & egg, i.e. group policy is applied after the profile has been loaded and therefore can't specify the location. Cheers, Rob.

• Temporary file storage - script for webserver

  I'm looking for a script (preferably php) which I can use for to temporarily exchange files. I had such a script before (it was written in flash), but - damn - just can't find it anymore. Here the features I'm looking for: I have a logon, which allows me to create "upload spaces". for these "upload spaces" I define a time how long the space will be available for (until the files are deleted), and who can access it - in the means of typing in an email, and that user gets a link with the "online space", user ID and password. the other user then clicks on the link and uploads the file, and I get (preferably) an email should there be any file changes I get an email before the content gets deleted Now, 3 additional things: - it should be open- source - run on linux (preferably lamp) - no, I dont wanna use dropbox or similar :p Thanks in advance everybody, Cheers Chris

• Ubuntu: disable udev's persistent-net-generator.rules

  I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS server edition and I am modifying /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules to define my own mappings of ethernet interfaces to MAC addresses; that file is initially generated by rules in /lib/udev/rules.d/75-persistent-net-generator.rules at system installation time (or at the first boot, I actually don't know and it doesn't matter here). How can I be sure that my edited version will never ever be overwritten by anything? Removing the persistent-net-generator, as suggested on some websites, is not the Right Thing™ to do as told by comments in the file itself: it will be overwritten by any update of the udev package. I'm looking for a more formally correct way to disable it. Is it enough to just make sure that /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules does exist? Maybe there are other events that could trigger its regeneration? (eg. adding or removing ethernet interfaces to the system?)

• DFS replication initial step problem

  I just setup DFS on my network and it's working fine, and now I'm trying to setup DFS-R on a test folder, but then at the end of the procedure (all went fine, selected my 2 folders, primary folder, replication topology and such) I get this error message (roughly translated from french) : Unable to define security on the replicated folder. The shared administration folder doesn't exist. I'm also wondering if there's any required security on the folders to replicate so that DFS-R can access it. I was trying to add SYSTEM in the security, but it won't find it/allow me. The folder has many many files and folders on the primary DFS pointer, but none on the 2nd, just created it with quite the same rights. Note that the primary DFS pointer is on a 2008 server and the DFS service and the secondary DFS pointer are on a 2008r2. Any help is very appreciated, thanks.

  I am trying to solve a spoj problem Party Schedule the problem statement is- You just received another bill which you cannot pay because you lack the money. Unfortunately, this is not the first time to happen, and now you decide to investigate the cause of your constant monetary shortness. The reason is quite obvious: the lion's share of your money routinely disappears at the entrance of party localities. You make up your mind to solve the problem where it arises, namely at the parties themselves. You introduce a limit for your party budget and try to have the most possible fun with regard to this limit. You inquire beforehand about the entrance fee to each party and estimate how much fun you might have there. The list is readily compiled, but how do you actually pick the parties that give you the most fun and do not exceed your budget? Write a program which finds this optimal set of parties that offer the most fun. Keep in mind that your budget need not necessarily be reached exactly. Achieve the highest possible fun level, and do not spend more money than is absolutely necessary. Input The first line of the input specifies your party budget and the number n of parties. The following n lines contain two numbers each. The first number indicates the entrance fee of each party. Parties cost between 5 and 25 francs. The second number indicates the amount of fun of each party, given as an integer number ranging from 0 to 10. The budget will not exceed 500 and there will be at most 100 parties. All numbers are separated by a single space. There are many test cases. Input ends with 0 0. Output For each test case your program must output the sum of the entrance fees and the sum of all fun values of an optimal solution. Both numbers must be separated by a single space.   I'm looking for any (Windows) software that allows me to draw custom street maps. I'm not looking for something that displays existing maps from real places, but something that allows me to define my own map. Obviously this can be achieved through any graphics program however I am wondering if there's a software which makes it almost drag-drop easy to create your own maps of visual quality to that of Open Street Maps, Google Maps, street directories etc. Preferably an offline desktop app with attention on design rather than complex geospacial specifics. Context: I want to make a detailed street map for a game I'm making.

  I want use windows policy setting to limit access to removable media. This can be done by setting [HKEY_USERS\<uid>\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\RemovableStorageDevices] "Deny_All"=dword:00000001 for limiting a specific user [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\RemovableStorageDevices] "Deny_All"=dword:00000001 for all users on the machine. I'm looking for a method to limit all users, with the exception of one specific local user. However, the limitation appears to be additive - there is no way (that I know of) to define an exception for a specific user. Is there some kind of alternative?

• Desktop notifcations for IMAP subfolders in Outlook 2013

  I use Outlook 2013 and an IMAP account for my mails. I have configured several filters (rules) directly in the webmail application of my provider in order to deliver certain mails, e.g., from my boss, into certain folders other then the "inbox". Note that I did not define any rules in Outlook itself and I also do not want to do so (because I want these mails being delivered into the folders not only in Outlook but also on other devices). The problem is that that I receive desktop notifications only for incoming mails in the main folder ("Inbox") but not for mails in any of the other folders.

• I noticed the answer to the Aug 2009 question of using VBA to set Custom Flag values

  We are actively using the Follow Up mail feature to assign users to particular mail follow up items. Although mail item follow ups are generally the province of the individual user, by changing the flag value from "Follow Up" to "User name", we can see each other's follow up tasks and group on responsible party. Currently we accomplish the Flag value change manually. My sense is the easiest way to perfect the process is a separate macro for each user. Along the lines of the macro to change the star/end due date to end of month, please define the macro to re-assign the Flag value for each highlighted mail item (previously assigned by default). • launchctl - use rvm instead of system Ruby in executed scripts?

  I have a launchctl job I define as such: <key>ProgramArguments</key> <array> <string>/bin/sh</string> <string>-c</string> <string>~/projects/script.sh</string> </array> When I run script.sh manually, the script works fine, as it uses the currently configured rvm version of ruby. When I run this through launchctl, the system version of Ruby is used, which breaks the script. How can I get this script to run with the right version of ruby available?

Headline 1 3. Headline 1 A1. Headline 1 A1.1 Headline 2 I know that I can define such a thing via Bullet and Numbering, yet there the appendix is defined for all the headlines. But I only want it for the actual appendix. How do I achieve such a thing?
