  Does anyone know the function of the Lsh and Rsh keys in Windows 7 calculator when it is in Programmer's mode. One would think it's meant to shift bits left and right, but that doesn't seem to happen: sometimes nothing happens, other times I get a 'Result not defined' message in the display. Has anyone figured it out yet, is this a known bug? While we're at it, does anyone have suggestions for a good calculator, one with a decent reference guide / user guide (windows help doesn't seem to give any hints on what any of the keys do, in any mode).

• Weird Windows 2003 MSDTC and SQL 2005 issue

  scenario: Windows 2003 sp2 x64 enterprise edition. SQL 2005 sp2 cu9 x64 Enterprise edition After restarting the resource groups on two node active-active cluster, 3 SQL 2005 instances start up fine. The 4th one starts up but starts throwing the following error. "Enlist operation failed: 0x8004d00e(XACT E NOTRANSACTION). SQL Server could not register with Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC) as a resource manager for this transaction. The transaction may have been stopped by the client or the resource manager." MSDTC is fine since the other 3 function normally. The only way to "fix" it is to take the 4th instance offline and bring it online again. Is there any way to fix this enlistment without restarting?

Problem: There is a copy of production data in my test environment with real e-mail addresses. I need to test the e-mail functionality of these applications, but I do not want them to send out actual e-mails. Is there a way to catch and redirect all outgoing e-mails? Ideally, I would like to send all outgoing e-mails to another e-mail (i.e., [email protected]) so my testers can look at them.

• VMWARE V2V migration without shared storage

  I would like to do the following: Take Physical box running w2k8r2 and Sql2008R2 and do a P2V on it to a 4.1 Enterprise licensed cluster. --no worries here, I can do that part-- Take the existing physical box that is freed up and install vmware hypervisor 5.0 on it. --again I can do this part-- Do a v2v migration of the VM created in step #1 above from the Enterprise 4.1 Cluster to the standalone host. They are NOT using shared storage. Step #3 is where I'm confused as to what my best option is. I found an article online talking about using Veeam FastSCP and just shutting down the vm on the cluster, removing it from inventory, copying the files over to the new host and then adding it to inventory. Is that the best way to accomplish this?

• Secure copying (file transfer) between two Linux servers in the same datacenter (Linode)

  I have two Linodes in the same data center. I want to copy files from one to the other each night or on demand (for about the next month, until this project is finished). So I'm thinking about using rsync. My question is how do I set up the two Linode servers to communicate via private IP addresses securely? Both servers are SSH hardened, they use denyhosts and have a fairly restrictive iptables setup. I know I need to first assign private IP addresses to each server, then configure static networking according to this guide. What is next? What SSH or iptables settings are needed to allow these two servers to communicate? What further info do I need to supply in this question? I'm looking for a basic step-by-step guide for how to do this.

  I've followed this guide to setup PHP in FastCGI mode with Nginx. This guide describes 2 ways of doing it: TCP socket and UNIX socket. I've ran some Apache Benchmark on my locale machine and here are the results: Below tests ran multiple times to get better average statistics: $ ab -c 200 -n 100000 http://.... APACHE: 1800 req/sec NGINX (TCP socket): 2500 req/sec NGINX (UNIX socket): 15000 req/sec As far as I understand, there is overhead with using a TCP socket rather than a UNIX socket, hence the better performance with the latter. However I was not expecting such a performance difference given that the TCP socket is on the localhost, and therefore would like to ask the following question: Q: Given the huge performance gain with using a UNIX socket, what are the configuration scenarios where it would make sense to use a TCP socket instead?

  Hi A couple of months ago we ordered an SSL certificate for a client's server using the request guide in IIS 6.0. This worked fine and the guide was completed when we received the certificate. But about 2 weeks ago the server crashed and had to be restored. Now I can't seem to get the site running. I have the .cer file, but what is the correct procedure to import the the certificate? • Authentication issues setting up iRedMail on Debian

  I'm setting up an exchange server using iRedMail. Following the official iRedMail installation guide (http://www.iredmail.org/install_iredmail_on_debian.html) and the Digital Ocean guide (https://www.digitalocean.com/community/articles/how-to-install-iredmail-on-ubuntu-12-04-x64) I was able to install iRedMail without any problems, so I have all the services up and running. I can configure domains and emails using iRedAdmin BUT I have problem both sending and receiving email, what I get from Roundcube is 'Authentication error' when trying to send an email. Also I can't receive anything. I also tried to connect to the mx server using telnet, it connects, but after the STARTTLS command, when I start to write "MAIL FROM:" the connection is lost. Something in the configuration is not working (at the moment I have the configuration written by the iRedMail installation) but I do not know where, I hope someone can enlight me! Thank you

I was wondering if I used the Virtual Directory Server of the Enterprise Directory server, would we be able to point the vCenter clients to this Directory service for authentication and authorization rather than at the AD source. I developed some store procedure for SQL Server and the machine installed with SQL Server may not be fully under my control (may be used by un-trusted 3rd party). I want to protect my store procedure T-SQL source code (i.e. not viewable by some other party) by using encrypt store procedure function provided by SQL Server.   Hi I have about 15 workstations, all have the same hardware specs so I figured clonezilla is perfect for cloning them. So I followed everything this guide says :cloning groups of school computers That guide above makes it all look easy but when I tried setting up Clonezilla Server Edition on my laptop (Kubuntu 10.10) and configured the master computer for PXE boot, the master computer could not see the Clonezilla server. It just shows 'DHCP...' which seems it trying to grab an IP address but to no avail. Please help. Thanks!

• Is there an equivalent to Windows To Go for personal use?

  Windows To Go is one of the most exciting Windows 8 features to me - the ability to pack up your desktop environment and take it with you anywhere is extremely appealing. Unfortunately, it's only included with Windows 8 Enterprise, which you can't buy for individual use. Is there an equivalent that works for Windows 8 Professional? I would be satisfied by either a third-party program that does the same thing, or some workaround to enable Windows To Go for non-Enterprise versions. I'm aware of various WinPE-based live environments, and that's not what I'm looking for. I want the ability to run a full Windows 8 environment off of a flash drive that I can take anywhere.

  I have read several posts regarding restricting ALL users to Key authentication ONLY, however I want to force only a single user (svn) onto Key auth only, the rest can be key or password. I read How to disable password authentication for every users except several, however it seems the "match user" part of sshd_config is part of openssh-5.1. I am running CentOS 5.6 and only have OpenSSH 4.3.   Hi all I'm having a problem configuring a WMI alert that I would like to use with database mirroring. I'm running on Windows 2008 Enterprise X64 with Server 2008 Enterprise X64 also SQL Server has SP1 installed. Basically I click on alert select WMI after that I typed the below SQL statement SELECT * FROM DATABASE_MIRRORING_STATE_CHANGE WHERE DatabaseName = 'testmove' AND State = 8 I have also made sure the service broker is enabled for the msdb and all mirrored databases however I still can't get this to work basically the alert never fires. I'm testing with just the alert functionality I have not even added in the agent job yet. I tested this by right clicking on my mirrored database and forcing it to fail over. Any help with this problem would be much appreciated

  I've been donated a Cisco Catalyst 2950 Switch by the company I work for to have a play with. I've reset it back to Factory Defaults, but having an issue with getting to Express Setup. I've followed the Express Setup (And Factory Reset) guide as listed here: Catalyst 2950 Switch Getting Started Guide Everything goes fine, until I get to step 10, I enter 10.0.0.1 into the browser, but I just get a Error 324 response.   I have purchased an i7 based PC pre-installed with 64 bit windows 7 (home premium). Unfortunately some third party 32 bit software that I need to use is not working properly (see stackoverflow.com for details). I am now torn between the plan of installing windows XP 32 bit or making it dual boot. Which option do you think will give me the least problems? And if the answer is dual boot, then can you point me to a good guide for how to do it, preferably a guide specifically for my two OS's created in this order (i.e. 7x64 first). EDIT: the performance of my 32bit programs is critical so am concerned about any kind of 32bit XP "emulation".

  We have a large 4 processor/32-core server with 192GB of memory available in the data center and over twenty small SQL Standard databases to consolidate. They are a mix of SQL 2012 and 2008 R2 for 3rd-party apps. Is there any issue with simply installing two instances of SQL Standard on the server - one for 2012 and one for 2008 R2 ? Each instance will use up to 64GB out of the 192GB and 16 cores. If we did this with Enterprise, the licensing would be a fortune and the Enterprise features are not needed.
