  • SMS + Web app: Providers of SMS "Long codes" for use by U.S. carrier subscribers within U.S.?

    - by fourh
Q.: How to get a cellular phone SMS "Long code" for use by U.S. carrier subscribers within U.S.? Background: I'm building a web app that receives queries from/sends answers to cell phones. The app design (and business model) expects to communicate with cell devices via SMS, addressing the web app via an SMS "Long code" (VMN or MSISDN). The mobile phone subscribers will be sending/receiving within the U.S. and using U.S. carriers. Long codes are not available within the U.S. cellular services.

  • ETA on Smart Device Projects for Visual Studio 2010

    - by Vaccano
I really want to upgrade to Visual Studio 2010. But since I do a lot of development for the Pocket PC version of Windows Mobile I cannot. (I develop for a Symbol device that does not support Windows Phone 7, so that is not a option.) Does any one know any kind of time frame of when Microsoft plans to add support for Smart Device Projects into Visual Studio 2010

  • HTML form to JSON without modern libraries

    - by Rok
Does anyone know of a simple javascript library that serializes a form DOM object to JSON? I know jQuery has the serialize method but since I am writing an app for IE mobile, I can't use any of the new fancy libraries, must be oldschool simple javascript, as light as possible. Cheers

  • ack misses results (vs. grep)

    - by techpeace
I'm sure I'm misunderstanding something about ack's file/directory ignore defaults, but perhaps somebody could shed some light on this for me: mbuck$ grep logout -R app/views/ Binary file app/views/shared/._header.html.erb.bak.swp matches Binary file app/views/shared/._header.html.erb.swp matches app/views/shared/_header.html.erb.bak: <%= link_to logout_text, logout_path, { :title => logout_text, :class => 'login-menuitem' } %> mbuck$ ack logout app/views/ mbuck$ Whereas... mbuck$ ack -u logout app/views/ Binary file app/views/shared/._header.html.erb.bak.swp matches Binary file app/views/shared/._header.html.erb.swp matches app/views/shared/_header.html.erb.bak 98:<%= link_to logout_text, logout_path, { :title => logout_text, :class => 'login-menuitem' } %> Simply calling ack without options can't find the result within a .bak file, but calling with the --unrestricted option can find the result. As far as I can tell, though, ack does not ignore .bak files by default.

  • How to map different UI views in a RESTful web application?

    - by MicE
Hello, I'm designing a web application, which will support both standard UIs (accessed via browsers) and a RESTful API (an XML/JSON-based web service). User agents will be able to differentiate between these by using different values in the Accept HTTP header. The RESTful API will use the following URI structure (example for an "article" resource): GET /article/ - gets a list of articles POST /article/ - adds a new article PUT /article/{id} - updates an existing article based on {id} DELETE /article/{id} - deletes an existing article based on {id} The UI part of the application will however need to support multiple views, for example: a standard resource view a view for submitting a new resource a view for editing an existing resource a view for deleting an existing resource (i.e. display delete confirmation) Note that the latter three views are still accessed via GET, even though they are processed via overloaded POST. Possible solution: Introduce additional parameters (keywords) into URIs which would identify individual views - i.e. on top of the above, the application would support the following URIs (but only for Content-Type: text/html): GET /article/add - displays a form for adding a new article (fetched via GET, processed via POST) GET /article/123 - displays article 123 in "view" mode (fetched via GET) GET /article/123/edit - displays article 123 in "edit" mode (fetched via GET, processed via PUT overloaded as POST) GET /article/123/delete - displays "delete" confirmation for article 123 (fetched via GET, processed via DELETE overloaded as POST) A better implementation of the above might be to put the add/edit/delete keywords into a GET parameter - since they do not change the resource we're working with, it might be better to keep the base URI same for all of them. My question is: How would you map the above URI structure to UIs served to the regular user, considering that there can be several views per each resource, please? Do you agree with the possible solution detailed above, or would you recommend a different approach based on your experience? NB: we've already implemented an application which consists of a standalone RESTful API and a standalone web application. I'm currently looking into options for future projects where these two would be merged together (i.e. in order to reduce overhead). Thank you, M.

  • DirectX: Render to a screen buffer without using a render target

    - by knight666
Hello, I'm writing an open source 2D game engine, and I want to support as many devices and platforms as possible. I currently only have Windows Mobile though. I'm rendering using DirectX Mobile, with DirectDraw as a fallback path. However, I've run into a bit of trouble. It seems that while the reference driver supports createRenderTarget, many many many physical devices do not. I need some way to render to the screen without using a render target, because I render sprites using textured quads, but I also need to be able to draw individual pixels. This is how I do it right now: // save old values if (Error::Failed(m_D3DDevice->GetRenderTarget(&m_D3DOldTarget))) { ERROR_EXPLAIN("Could not retrieve backbuffer."); return false; } // clear render surface if (Error::Failed(m_D3DDevice->SetRenderTarget(m_D3DRenderSurface, NULL))) { ERROR_EXPLAIN("Could not set render target to render texture."); return false; } if (Error::Failed (m_D3DDevice->Clear( 0, NULL, // target rectangle D3DMCLEAR_TARGET, D3DMCOLOR_XRGB(0, 0, 0), // clear color 1.0f, 0 ) ) ) { ERROR_EXPLAIN("Failed to clear render texture."); return false; } D3DMLOCKED_RECT render_rect; if (Error::Failed(m_D3DRenderSurface->LockRect(&render_rect, NULL, NULL))) { ERROR_EXPLAIN("Failed to lock render surface pixels."); } else { m_D3DBackSurf->SetBuffer((Pixel*)render_rect.pBits); m_D3DRenderSurface->UnlockRect(); } // begin scene if (Error::Failed(m_D3DDevice->BeginScene())) { ERROR_EXPLAIN("Failed to start rendering."); return false; } // ===================== // example rendering // ===================== // some other stuff, but the most important part of rendering a sprite: device->SetTexture(0, m_Texture)); device->SetStreamSource(0, m_VertexBuffer, sizeof(Vertex)); device->DrawPrimitive(D3DMPT_TRIANGLELIST, 0, 2); // plotting a pixel Surface* target = (Surface*)Device::GetRenderMethod()->GetRenderTarget(); buffer = target->GetBuffer(); buffer[somepixel] = MAKECOLOR(255, 0, 0); // end scene if (Error::Failed(device->EndScene())) { ERROR_EXPLAIN("Failed to end scene."); return false; } // clear screen if (Error::Failed(device->SetRenderTarget(m_D3DOldTarget, NULL))) { ERROR_EXPLAIN("Couldn't set render target to backbuffer."); return false; } if (Error::Failed(device->GetBackBuffer ( 0, D3DMBACKBUFFER_TYPE_MONO, &m_D3DBack ) ) ) { ERROR_EXPLAIN("Couldn't retrieve backbuffer."); return false; } RECT dest = { 0, 0, Device::GetWidth(), Device::GetHeight() }; if (Error::Failed( device->StretchRect ( m_D3DRenderSurface, NULL, m_D3DBack, &dest, D3DMTEXF_NONE ) ) ) { ERROR_EXPLAIN("Failed to stretch render texture to backbuffer."); return false; } if (Error::Failed(device->Present(NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL))) { ERROR_EXPLAIN("Failed to present device."); return false; } I'm looking for a way to do the same thing (render sprites using hardware acceleration and plot pixels on a buffer) without using a render target. Thanks in advance.

  • i5 540M or i7 720QM for laptop running VMs and software development tools?

    - by Donald Hughes
I'm a software developer that would primarily be running Windows 7 as the primary operating system. On a typical day, I might, at any given moment, be running Visual Studio, Expression Web, SQL Server developer (and Management Console), IIS, Photoshop, a dozen browser tabs in 2-3 different browsers, Skype video chat, streaming music, and a couple of VMs (WinXP and Ubuntu) for testing/experimentation. Obviously, RAM is a concern, which is why I plan to use 8 GB so I can devote enough to the VMs to be usable. I'm also tempted to use an ExpressCard SSD for storing the VM disks to ease disk contention. And I know that that is asking a lot from a laptop, and I should just use a desktop, but I need to be able to take my work with me between several locations. It seems that at a reasonable price point, it comes down to the i5 540M versus the i7 720QM. I'm leaning toward the i7 since it would allow me to dedicate a whole hyperthreaded core to each VM, and still have two cores left for the primary OS. I've heard that the i5 has better battery life, but I'm curious for my scenario if there would be a meaningful difference. I don't usually work without a plug, but I do occasionally ride the train or fly and it would be nice to have at least 3 hours of juice for unusual circumstances. And, finally, for this usage scenario, would a dedicated video option be preferred over the i5's integrated video? It sounds like Visual Studio 2010 (and Windows 7) can take advantage of the video card.

  • Remote Email Access?

    - by Tyler
I have remote email access from an iPhone or my Android phone, but I cannot setup a Windows Email Client to check my email using the exact same information I provided in my phones. The email system is an Exchange 2003 and I hate using the cheap Outlook Web App that it has. User: [email protected] Password: 1234 Server: mail.domain.com And that works for they phones. So why can't I get it to work on my email client? Maybe a DNS problem?

  • How to install wgt files (widgets) on Samsung Star without an internet connection?

    - by Koning Baard XIV
Hi, I just created a new widget by following a tutorial. I created a zip containing all files and renamed it to HelloWorld.wgt instead of HelloWorld.zip. I sent it to my phone via Bluetooth, but when I try to open the wgt file on my phone it says it can't open it, because it doesn't know the filetype. Is there a way to install homebrew widgets on a Samsung Star without using a webserver? Thanks,

  • Using a cell phone as a PC remote control

    - by Mahmoud Hossam
I have a sony ericsson phone that can control any PC using bluetooth, as long as it has permission to do so, of course. It doesn't require any server software of any kind, it just works out of the box with any PC (or mac) that is bluetooth enabled. Is there any program I could use that has the same functionality? I don't want to install anything on the PC, I just want to be able to use the program installed on the phone. I prefer Java ME/Android/Symbian apps, I don't have an iPhone.
